Its not like Utd have a constant stream of youth players who are coming through to the first team. How long did it take Fergie at Utd to develop a youth set up that provided the likes of the Nevilles, Scholes, Butt and Beckham? How many have come through since 96? If you have £100 million to spend, then you will spend it, you wont gamble on youth. Fegrgie spent £50 million on two players a few years back, we went from a title winning side to 3rd in the league, so you could argue he made the squad worse. Mourinho plays a team to the strengths of the team, not to one philosphy. Fergie himself realises that you cant play attacking football in the bigger games and a lot of games are now lined up for ball retention, hence the favourtism for a 4-3-3 formation. Anyway, Fergie wont be going just yet, another title next May and maybe he will call it a day. At this moment in time, only Mourinho ticks the boxes to be the next Utd manager, in 12 months time or 2 years time, who knows what further experience managers may have. Blanc has done well at Bordeux but needs consistency and has no managerial experience in England. Carlos Queroz is a good number 2, but lacks what is needed to be manager.
