Fuck me. Losing 4-1 at home to the dippers. I was thinking on the way back that it doesn’t get much worse than this. Then I realised that it actually could be at lot worse than this. We could be four points behind them, as well as them having a game in hand on us.
This is their day today and it will be the press’ day tomorrow. After building us up, claiming the quintuple is ours, they will thoroughly enjoy tearing a strip off us tomorrow, as they should do.
Whilst 4-1 isn’t a fair reflection of the game today, Liverpool certainly deserved to win. We’ve made mistakes at the back before today and got away with them. Today, we gifted Liverpool three goals and unlike Inter Milan and most other teams we’ve made mistakes against this season, they actually made us pay for them. It didn’t matter that we had more shots, had more possession, a better passing and tackling completion rate. All that mattered was Vidic dithered and gave Torres a goal, Evra showed bad judgement and slid in to give away a penalty, and Vidic chose to rugby tackle Gerrard instead of letting him go past him. Three mistakes, three goals.
Whilst it’s a painful result, one no doubt we will be reminded of for years to come, the important thing is we’re still in the driving seat. Liverpool had to win today, we didn’t. With 11 men on the park we were still in it, but it was game over as soon as Vidic was off.
I also must note there was no booing at the final whistle. Given Liverpool fans deafening boos following their 0-0 draw with West Ham, taking them top of the league a few months back, it was nice to see the contrast with our fans, who suffered a humiliating defeat to our hated rivals, but sang a chorus of “We love United, we do!” as our team trudged towards the tunnel. Whilst plenty of fans had left by this point, there were still enough there in the ground to make our song heard over the celebrating Liverpool fans. The idea of booing a team at the top of the table always seemed ridiculous to me, but seeing how our fans responded today just shows how ridiculous Anfield was a few months ago. What they’d give to be cheering their team off as those at the top of the table now!
Shit day at the office, no question, but any Liverpool fan with sense would trade their position for ours, even with their great result today. They have dropped 11 points in the league in the time United have dropped 3. If winning 4-1 at Old Trafford convinces their fans Rafa Benitez is good enough to win the league and he hasn’t lost the plot, then good for them, I hope the owners feel the same way and the Rafalution continues for as long as possible. I’ll take a 4-1 defeat once a year if it means we’re lifting the trophy in May.
Top of the league, and that’s a fact!

Man Utd News 24/7

shocker today gutted , but hey win our game n hand back to 7 points its not all bad is it???
If this dosen’t wake them up nothing will. As you inferred Scott this was coming, maybe the players believed all the hype. Sigh.
Actually, what you don’t realize is that this is all part of Fergie’s master plan to keep Liverpool handicapped for years to come with Rafa’s ongoing presence as the manager. He looked at the points lead, the game in hand, and saw a golden opportunity to con the Liverpool faithful into keeping the Spanish waiter on for a few more years! It was a small sacrifice, but one well worth the temporary embarassment with a view to the long term welfare of United. That’s what makes a great manager.
Surely you must of noticed , the reason there was no booing at the end of the game was because most of you had already left well before the final whistle.
Well, that result truly sucks…the dippers will be wetting themselves with excitement over this one, because it obviously means they are good enough to win the league…yeah right…we got what we deserved, nothing more, nothing less.
The truth is that we have a shitty result like this every season, one thing to be sure of is that SAF will not allow this to happen again this season. I n many ways, this will be the best result of the season…because whenever United get dicked like this they come back massively…our response is what is important. I don’t expect United to lose another remiership match, whereas Liverpool will go on to scrape draws with mediocre sides.
Nobody wants to lose to the bindippers, but they can have their day…’in their Liverpool slums’…United will still win the Premier League.
No boos at full time you say? It would be commendable if plastic seats had the capacity to boo in the first place. All the daytrippers & prawn sandwich munchers had already left by fulltime, so try not to give yourself too many pats on the back for not booing.
i dont care about this result if we win the league in may
and hope we knock them out of the CL
Well it all comes down to one question which one do we prefer….a league title or a double over our fiercest rivals?
that’s exactly what i was singin all the way back home to myself in my car!!!!! top ‘o the league!!! and that’s a fact!!!…… still, i’m a bit gutted to say the least! should be a wake up call for the boys!! come on lads!!!
I’d rather fans left than stuck about until the final whistle JUST so they could boo their team, as they did at Anfield.
Let them enjoy the day…..they deserve to enjoy one day at least. Let Rafa boast that he won over Ferguson…..hope hesigns the contract now…..
What matters most is who lifts the cup this coming way and that for sure will be
Manchester United……come on ye reds.
Enjoy your cup final scum, come may we’ll have the title again and you can wallow in your double. Sign on.
well im gutted. but im looking at the positives. this 4-1 defeat will make sure every player have a good look at themselves. complacency has crept in our game a bit by bit in the last 3/4 games and we havent got punished. well today we truely did get punished. and in a way im glad it was against the dippers because the reaction to this defeat will be magnafied even more by losing to our rivals. the players should read every comment coming out of anfield this week bout the race not being over. let them boast. let every ex dipper go on sky sports news and say benitez is a legend and tyhe pool are back. then take all that and use it as motivation and push on with another unbeaten run in the league. united are always stronger after a defeat remember the city game last year. this united defeat will do more to help united than the liverpool victory will help the dippers
Been reading about our ‘cup final’ all day…Interesting that United ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS sing anti scouser songs in every game but we basically ignore you unless we are playing you.
After me now boys…Fergie’s right, your fans are shite, Fergie is right, your fans are shite….
Thats A FACT!
Saw this coming. Our performances have been going down hill for a bit and we were due a loss, I was just hoping we would get past Liverpool before we hit the wall. Once we went 2-1 down I didn’t have confidence in the team that we would win, it just didn’t seem to be our day but I’m still confident that we’ll be walking away with the title.
I figure we’ve got one loss left in the league to come and maybe one in the Champions League but I can still see us with everything at the end of the season. The only thing that worries me is Vidic’s performance today and playing Anderson. Actually Anderson’s inclusion confuses me more than Vidic.
Sophie Paddy…..At least our fans are from Liverpool love…not the 5 Mancs and 78000 Singaporians…
Watch the game on Sky did you?
Yup! as Fergie said ‘If the league started now with a4 point lead (plus game in hand) you would take it.’ A bad result but at the right time, if had been in one of the cup competitions we would be either out or in deep shit. This will wake the lads up for sure and get rid of lots of little pressures that I think were affecting us. Such as VDS not conceding at O.T. since last year etc etc. We put this behind us now and just focus on the job in hand……………….We”ll keep the Red flag flying high! With pride!
you dippers only started singing when it was 3-1. I was there
you deserved to beat us today but you see your captain? the man who put on that show today by making a point of kissing his badge right in front of the camera? this is just a consolation for him. what he really wants, is staying at old trafford
Scott i agree, there was probably 10,000-20,000 left at full time from what i could see that didnt boo, so that was probably the only highlight of the match. Good article btw, cheered me up a little
Sean – 78,000 Singaporians? You are retarted.
Graham Sankey was actually born in Anfield wasn’t he? Were all the fans who killed those Italians from Liverpool too? How about the ones who were robbing your own fans for tickets ahead of the European Cup final a couple of years back? Were they all from Liverpool too?
You Liverpool fans don’t realise what damage today’s result did to you.You will be stuck with the waiter for a long time. The last time you won at O.T. it was the same.Fergie wanted you to keep Houllier. Then you saw through Fergie’s gameplan. For your sakes i hope you do the same this time.
Sean: Calm Down! Calm Down!
Good response Scott, my sentiments exactly. There were dire individual errors that gifted the game, as happened at Anfield, but even at 1-2 we were better. Of course we should gracefully accept on the day we were eventually well beaten, but we should also keep everything in perspective, as I’m sure Fergie and the senior players will. Remember citteh doing the double last year, including the Munich anniversary game? In the end it didn’t matter, and there’s no reason why it should this time. As Fergie says, it’s all about how you respond, and he has more experience than anyone on the planet of how to handle situations like this. I don’t think he’ll make the same mistake again this season of having neither Scholes or Giggs. United need one or the other every time because of the experience they have. The defence has been good up to now because it’s been screened effectively by the calm possession play of the midfield who have to work like Trojans to track back when they lose the ball. This time there was a huge gap between defence and midfield, mainly because Carrick was so off the pace. Hard work and discipline is needed, not panic, and not just among the players. Crowd reactions will play a crucial role from here on in. We don’t want the kind of anxiety that can transmit itself to the players next week at Fulham. Several players will be nervous, so let’s back them, not heap more pressure on them. It’s squeaky bum time, and we all have our part to play. Whatever your thought about the line-up, back them to the hilt. See you at Craven Cottage!
Bitter fucks, face it you’ve been spanked by the better team twice this season. Utd’s lucky run couldn’t go on forever and it took Liverpool to bring them down to earth with a bump. After Utd’s recent performances I knew Liverpool would win, I just didn’t expect it to be quite so emphatic.
Lets hope for your sakes, you don’t draw Liverpool in the Champions League, it might be embarrassing for the once “invincible” Manchester United!
YNWA
@ xile? bitter? of course we’re bitter! we just got spanked by out most hated rivals? are you saying if the boot was on the other foot you’d be congratulating our performance? would you fuck.
liverpooll werent anything out of the ordinary today. we made so many simple mistakes it was abysmal.vidic made 2, evra made 1 and o’shea made 1. all defensive errors pounced on by them. not exactly vintage stuff.
On the other hand that result will give us a kick up the arse that we’ve needed since blacburn. the dippers, like city last season and arsenal the season before, can revel in the double while we claim the silverware. 19 years and counting…
keep the red flag flying high
Poor, poor liverpool. They always get their hopes built up before the inevitable slide into another year without the league. Im praying for them in Europe really fancy us to knock them out we have a point to prove.
I’d like to see Liverpool draw United in the Champions league too, UEFA ranked No.1 against UEFA ranked No.6, should be entertaining.
xile you do know that the UEFA ranking is like that because we are still carrying the 05-06 campaign on our backs don’t you?Just like in the past you were beneath us in the ranking while you were carrying the season in which Basel knocked you out of the last 32.It’s got nothing to do with which is the better team.By the way,the season Chelsea won 4-1 at Anfield, you beat them in the cup semi,so careful what you wish for.
This has been on my mind for the past few games now…How shit is O’Shea! Everyone didnt play well today, but he has been bad every game i have seen him in! He is not a manu player, no team in the top 4 or 5 in any league in the world would have him! I hope he proves me wrong, but cant wait till Da Silva is back!
haha xile youre a funny bastard. them UEFA rankings are the biggest joke in the world! you seen that according to them Middlesborough are better than Fiorentina, Athletico and Everton? Or that Werder Bremen are better than Real Madrid? Theyre based on history not current ability… youre displaying classic scouse traits of loving your history though!
costas, since Istandbul Liverpool have been to another final and a semi, and this season is looking good again, so some might say you’re talking out of your arse.
What can we do pbul2004?John has reached his limit unfortunately. We will have to go to Fulham with him.I think that after the International break all 3 right backs might be back. That’s a huge boost. There is no use singling out players right now.The team made a fantastic run after the trip to Japan and John played in a lot of games during that run.The fact is where we go from here.If there are tired players, then we have to find a solution because come April it will be Saturday-Wednesday-Saturday again.
mate since istanbul united have been to a semi and won a final! tard! i never normally get involved in this sorta crap but you really are chatting some shit!
Absolute shocking performance!!! anderson chasing shadows, god only knows why he started anderson who hasnt started in the league for 6 months, the guy is absolute wank!!!. An i cnt see what utd fans see in him. The fuckin bin dippin murderin twats deserved to win and thats a fuckin fact!. Not much more i can say !! Thank fuck were gonna be 7 points clear!!
Reading this is like reading a site full of little Arsene Wengers!
Once again Ronaldo is completely anonymous in the big games. I mean that HAS to be a worry. Your midfield just got bossed by LUCAS LEIVA! Pepe Reina had perhaps his worst game in a Liverpool shirt and you scored 1.
I love how you were all stating how terrible Real’s defence packed with A European champion costing €25m, the only defender who is world player of the year and a world cup winner, your former player of the season, and a very highly rated portuguese international costing €30m with the best keeper in the world behind him. Declaring, matter of factly, that Torres would be in Ferdinands pocket and that would never happen to you.
So tell me, were you right?
You can actually smell the fear of us catching you…. it’s the smell of shit in your pants.
xile i appreciate the kindness.Right back at you.Liverpool have been better in the Ch.League in the last 5 years,i am not taking that away from them. But that UEFA ranking is a cheap cop out.Because currently United aren’t the best team in Europe and United certainly aren’t 6th.But whatever works for you.I could also say that in the last 10 years United are ranked higher than Liverpool in Europe. What does that have to do with today?
I meant currently Liverpool aren’t the best team in Europe
xile: you are a turd.
You know Rob what’s the worst part? That most tabloids were waiting for such a result as much as the dippers.Tomorrow they will have a field day.
There wasn’t any booing because the stadium was half empty by the final whistle.
In response to SeanSaid…No, didn’t watch the game on Sky…but no, I wasn’t at the game as i now live in Western Australia…not too far from Singapore admittedly…you make a very very valid point as we all know every Liverpool supporter is from Merseyside…fuck me, is that the best you can think of…enjoy your day
For those who say that there was no booing because the stadium was empty, let me ask this. Why didn’t they boo when they were still there?Who says someone boos when the game is over? There was no booing, because United fans don’t turn against their team, especially when it has been on such a run.
Costas: Fergie went to Sir Matt one day early in his career at O.T. saying he was unhappy about what the papers were saying, Sir Matt in his wisdom simply said ‘Why read them then’ I for one will be following his advice!
Absolutely fuckin gutted and awaiting the media backlash now. Fuck em. Thought it was a strange selection in the midfield, was surprised to see Anderson start in front of Fletch. I can’t understand why SAF didn’t start with Fletch as he nearly always does in these big games and in my opinion we missed him battling away. It was just one of those days where nothing went right and we made some awful mistakes. Ain’t gonna criticise players too much as like I said it was a bad day at the office and these things happen (why against those cunts though)? Vidic had a nightmare, i said the other day that Carrick had his worst performance in a United shirt against Inter, however I take that back as his worst performance was today! Evra looked fucked and JOS was just woeful. We had absolutely no bite in the middle of the park and we lost it time and time again. Its days like this when we realise just how much we miss Hargo.
The lads were just too complacent and have been for a week or two, this will be a much needed kick up the arse. We just need to ensure that we kick on from this and go on another unbeaten run. What has happened this season with the vermin is very similar to what happened last year against the bitters. At least we know that the dippers are capable of winning a game like today only to follow that up with a defeat or draw against Stoke or Fulham etc. We just need to write this one off and get back to our winning ways, starting with a victory next week at Craven Cottage.
Let’s sit down with scouse scum in May and compare trophies! You’d swear they’d won thw league and champions league today. They can only put in a performance against us or Chelsea or Arsenal – shite against the rest. That’s why they win fuck all.
Sir Matt as usual was right.Thankfully i don’t live in England so i don’t have to watch them. The only thing that bugs me Rob is that they created this frenzy around United and the quintuple, that the players must have started believing that they could win games on a walking pace. And i don’t want any Liverpool fan telling me that that’s an excuse because Rafa said the same thing when Gerrard was injured:that he was influenced by the press to use him for 90 minuted every game.Slightly off topic, but why does Ronaldo have to take all of the free kicks?
no it wount, if it was that tiny tears rent boy terry it would be recinded
The points of the game:-
1. We were 1-0 comfortable and cruising until a calamitous error by vids that brought them into them…exactly like anfiled earlier in the season.
2. Game then meandered..until another error by left back on that dipper
3. 2nd half first 20, we were always over them and they were anonymous…we looked like getting the equaliser and powering on, esp when scholsey, giggsy, berba came on.
4. However another individual xmas gift cost us the game. Sending off and the game was over.
5. It wasnt a trashing..as it was 2-1 when we went down to 10 men and after that we lost our heads, the guys just drifted, wanted the whistle and the legs had gone. So the dippers got 2 bonus goals.
Hey King Eric.I was wondering what were your thoghts on the game. You see why i am alwasy negative before a game?Today was one of the few times i was positive and look what happened!By the way, what has happened to Anderson guys? It’s not just that he makes mistakes. It’s also the fact that he drags the others along and makes them nervous.Last year i was cursing whenever he wasn’t picked. This year it has been a disaster. If Fletch wasn’t going to start today why didn’t he start against Inter?
Today was terrible but look on the positive side that this is a wake up call for the players that it is a long way before they can confirm their the true champion. Many players was playing below par & its a bad sign. From what i saw these is the people who are playing bad:
vidic
evra
anderson
tevez
rooney
Man Utd make to much mistake & giving free kicks
OFCOURSE IT PAINS LIKE YOU WOULDNT BELIEVE…IVE HAD NEARLY 5 PUNCH UPS ALREADY WITH SO CALLED MATES WHO SUPPORT THE DIPPERS. Having there sad little 5 minutes of fame in their sad lives..because it means so much to them and it is their cup final. YES IT HURTS AND THEY ARE THE LAST AND WORST TEAM TO LOSE TO. BUT THIS WAS ON THE CARDS AND WAS COMING. WHY???
1. EVEN though our midfield cover is great with 2 in, then the next 2 in then out. We do lack a world class midfield enforcer. We are missing Hargreaves cover of the back 4.
2. Today like scott said the errors that have strewn our play last few games, and lets be honest we have been going through the motions and the writing has been on the wall..inter game, blackburn game. These defensive lapses were soon gonna bite and some team was going to take advantage off it. Which 4 errors the dippers duely profited from.
3. Our players looked like a jaded tired boxer. Unlike the dippers playing a game every 10 days in 1 competition. We have been flogging our players every 2 to 3 days, sat wed, sat tues etc. and today that zip, freshness bite etc wasnt there. I havent seen wazza, michael and crstiano so tired. They need a rest this week, with no midweek games.
4. Records dont help. Scotts right…these not conceding, home records, win record, unbeaten records dont help. They add pressure..so in a way its good its out of the way.
5. The media hype…true we never built anything up nor said we’d win 5. SAF said himself he’d take the prem just the prem right now….and you need amazing luck to win more than that. However scotts right..the media will love this..they love tearing us up in the next few days, pundits will love blowing their own created utd balloon. They’ll love telling us we ve stumbled, we ve been rocked, we’re shaken, the race is wide open, its game on, we might flater, we could crack, liverpool are amazing, they could rip anyone, chelseas will be booted too, psychological damage, emotional confidence lift to rivals. BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH. It will all come out next few days. They’ll rip us apart andbuild those 2 up to the nth degree. Anyway so its glad we can now become us again…that siege mentality..the media hype and pressure of quintuples subdued.
THESE ARE A FEW OF MANY THINGS THAT HAVENT HELPED
United were awful today, scousers deserved to win, hope this result can wake some of the big egos at the club up and realise that they shouldn’t believe the press.
Sky sports are the winners today, if united won the title would have been over and viewings would have gone down so now they can build everything back up again only for united to win the league
c’mon United
I am finding it difficult to cope .. we lost 1-4 to them at home .. what a horrible day .. damn damn damn .. I in some ways hope we draw them in the league so we can get some revenage .. suckssssss .. anyone but them.. T
As an Arsenal supporter, I was cheering on Man U. Lets face it.. if Liverpool had lost today, they would have been catchable on 3rd position. This result would unfortunately boost them and they might still pull out a couple of good results from the hat.
Being a United fan; I am naturally pissed with the result today, however I/we have to accept it. We weren’t at our cutting edge today and like many have noted, this defeat was definately comming as WE WERE VERY LUCKY not conceed any goals against Inter. Benitez has proved to be a very good tatician, whilst he has been at Liverpool especially with the big games as of late and today was no exception. even though we still have a game in hand and are 4 points ahead at the top of the league, all Man Utd fans right now will have that little bit of doubt creeping in after todays result and it is up to the us fans and OUR players to now, positively respond. the table does not lie, we are top of it for a reason and we are always going to lose an odd game or two because no team is perfect. I have to say, credit to Liverpool because NO ONE comes to Old Trafford and leaves winning 4-1; it just DOES NOT happen. Liverpool have also developed from earlier in the season, because at the Emirates they could only draw with 10-man Arsenal. However, the main difference from that day and today was Torres; who on what I saw today, nutmeged Vidic (something I havent seen happen this season) nick the ball off Vidic to score his goal (something else I havent seen this season) and do-over Ferdinand (which I have seen this season) on his own up front. We were awful today in front of goal, but thats why the game is there to HOPEFULLY make up for it. Liverpool smashed us today and are a good team. However, United must keep focused and concerntrate on the bigger picture; 2 trophies already and HOPEFULLY counting.
4EVA UNITED.
Costas: That is the British press for you they do it to everybody. I’m not sure the players are over-confident either. Pressure from all sides come at you, silly things like not letting a goal in for this length of time etc etc I think this pretty much wipes the slate clean and we can wipe our face and get on again. As for Ronaldo and the free kicks with Vida, Ferdinand and Ronaldo in the box I think we would score more goals with another player crossing the ball rather than a blast at goal from 30-40 yards. Thought this for a while now as he is not scoring that many these days>
WHAT WE NEED TO DO NOW.
1. Like SAF said after the game……lije uts do…from a defeat we hit back and go on a run…a 6 game unbeaten run will do us fine.
2. We need the siege mentality
3. We need players rested
4. We need to iron out the errors
5. We need NEVO RAFAEL AND WESLEY BACK ASAP TO EASE THE BURDEN ON THE BACK 4
6. We need all our managers and giggsy schosleys experience. This was going to happen in a title race you cant win it swimmingly…2 or 3 major fuck ups do happen at the end every year. But its how we react and bounce back.
7. Forget the momentum or lift the dippers or the russian crooks may get. We need to knuckle down……and that mean quintuple out of window, complacency out of window.
8. Get evans primed..get rio to cut his mistakes out…this season he has looked shaky…and for the first time evra too.
This week behind the doors at carrington is a massive week. Dipper gerrard says..this result will give other teams a lift to beat us. Thats why next weeks game is crucial. YES we ve beaten fulham easy this season…but that wont count for nothing next week. We need to win…..dippers play sunday so we can be 7 clear and out the pressure on them once again and nip their hopes in the bud.
Its not all bad…yes for bragging rights and history books we didnt want this. but like scott said..we’re 4 clear…potential 7. Fulham next week a win and it is 7..hence next week is an even bigger game..we need a reaction from our mighty reds.
And as scott said…..hopefully we will react in the way we know and shown how over the years. And yes if and when we win the trophy in may who will give a fuck about the 1-4.
Id take a 1-4 every day with the dippers…if it meant we retained our trophy each AND EVERY year
WE’LL KEEP THE RED FLAG FLYING HIGH…COS MAN UTD WILL NEVER DIE!!!!
in4muslegand reminded me of something guys.Liverpool have played both games against United with a man advantage as well as the Emirates game and the home game with Chelsea.FACT senior Benitez?
shocking result and as always it hurts like a kick in the balls, but we’ve been making the same mistakes for ages now,the dippers just took their chances today. they had 5 chances and scored 4,gerrard putting one in the stretford end at 3-1 was the only one they didn’t take.
we need a response after today and once fergie gives them the bollocking they deserve i can’t see us losing another league game.
having said all the above…after liverpool beat newcastle 5-1 at xmas if you offered me 4 points clear plus a game in hand by mid march i would have bitten your fuckin hand off.
let’s wait til may…
suhayl you are right.Carrington will be crucial this week. But let’s face it.After today, the game at Fulham will not be easy. They will have taken heart from the fact that we are no longer invincible and some of our players might have begun second guessing themselves. It will be a scrap, but it will be a great opportunity for our players to get dirty for once.
fuck the fact that liverpool have played against 10 men both times they’ve beaten us,at the end of the day they’ve still beaten us both times, vidic was sent off (deservedly) late in both games. how many times have we beaten teams reduced to 10 men,it’s still a defeat
It is,but for a weird reason they have had a man advantage in 4 of thei 5 big games. How many times have we had a man advantage this season? The send off in the Liverpool-Chelsea game was harsh though.
Costas – Yes mate if you being positive results in this kind of a scoreline and performance please stick to your negativity! Agree with you about Ando as well, is it a cause for concern?
I really hope not King Eric.I just hope that it’s second season jitters and that both he and Nani will be ok in their third season.Just like it happened with Ole.I don’t know though.Look at how easily a player’s mind can go these days.Ole never let his seccess go to his head.Vida hears compliments for 3 months about being the new Bruce and being tracked by Milan and this is what happens. To be honest,i was fearing the game, just didn’t mention it.Fulham will be a real scrap now but it will be just what the doctor ordered. These players need to remember what it’s like fighting for your life.Something else.As crazy as Rafa’s rants have been, the refs have been kind to them ever since and the schedule is just hpw they like it.Since there are no games this week,i still don’t understand why this fixture didn’t happen tomorrow.I know no United fan wants SAF to crack up like Benitez but they shouldn’t mistake the fact that we don’t complain as a sign of weakness.
xile, calm down and don’t get to orgasmic, congratulations! you have just ended our 16 game WINNING streak, I would have thought anyone with half a football brain would realize that you need need a bit more than luck to achieve that. Let me remind you how ever painful it is that we are currently EPL, European and World Club Champions AND still four points clear of you with a game in hand, I bet you would sell your left bollock to be able to say that wouldn’t you?
Well…everyone here seems to be ignoring how poor Ronaldo has been this season.I cnt see him taking defenders one on one and beating them anyore…He did do well away to Inter but apart from that this season most of what he does is showboating with the dead ball…Doesnt look at all like the best palyer in the world to me…Doesnt seem to provide any inspiration anymore(remember that goal against fulham last to last season)…..something has happened this season….he looked short of commitment today..no question about that..and when your best players to missing you have to pay the price…there wasnt a single moment of brilliance that we expect from him today…He is the kind of player that can drive a team…yet he looked strangely subdued but for that penalty…if he goes on like this i say get in someone like Ribery who works his socks off for the team and produces those moments of magic too….Maybe his goals tally doesnt reflect how poor he has been but then again being the penalty taker and a good header of the ball he can bang em in…but his assists and influence this season have gone down..and most importantly he doesnt look like giving a 100 percent.
@ King Eric and Costas
As for Ando i beg to differ ..I know Fletch has played well in the big games but if Ando is on a roll not only he can battle well but also provide an attacking impetus that Fletch so clearly lacks..Technically he brings a lot to our midfield..so if he is playing with someone like Carrick who likes to keep things simple its a better alternative than Fletch because he so often can thread a wonderful through ball in the final third plus make those driving runs which can lead to panic in the opposition defences…The reason he’s been so poor is because he hasnt been given a sustained run in the team..To me he is one of those lads who take a little time to get going but when they finally do they can run the show on their own..in other words he is a match winner….Plus Carrick was so poor that it rubbed off him.
I wish this wake up call had been against someone other than the dippers but now we need to make sure we respond as Sir Alex says and go on a long unbeaten run and show those scumbags who we are.
the result came down to one thing…our defence, in particular nemanja vidic
it happens, we will get over it but thats the reason
Desperate to draw Liverpool in the CL now.Liverpool had their day and will dine out on this for years to come.BUT, do their fans honestly in the depths of their hearts think they are something special. We made mistakes and were shit but every team can have an off day.Next time we meet, if Reina is so indecisive we might put five past them.I have no arguments about the score today, thats life. But I also have no respect for a team that timewastes only minutes into the second half. That can only come from the instruction of a negative manager like Benitez. The reason I love United so much is that it is in the club’s DNA to attack even when they are winning away.By the way,Torres was limping heavily just before he scored. Is this a new tactic by Benitez to lead the opposition into thinking his Spanish Bum Boy is injured again or did El Nino’s head drop after Ronaldo scored and he wanted to take the easy way out as his buddy Gerrard had barely touched the ball by then.Only an observation but it is not the first time I have seen the Flying Transvestite start hobbling like my Nan after she had her hip operation, when things aren’t going too well for him.The Point I am making is if Torres had not had the chance and took it (very well I have to admit),would he have still been on the pitch five minutes later.Negative managers bring negative thoughts to a team.Having said that he took his chance,no complaints about their penalty. No complaints about the sending off and subsequent goal and to finish they got a fourth.Tough tits.
However if we draw them in the CL not even the most ardent Liverpool fan woul think that that scoreline would happen again. Would like to have had Berbatov starting as his flicks and intelligence help to unlock negative sides like Liverpool.Nani maybe a better choice on left side today.Although he is not playing great I think the big game plus Carra at right back may have created opportunities.Anyway, such is life, bring on the quarter finals against them. Would never say it otherwise as I think they can be so good defensively but I would love to avenge this defeat by putting them out of the CL just to put the memory of today behind me. Hope Rafa signs his contract and stays at LFC.He has given me so many laughs, but I won’t let him have today,I will have to put it down to us having a bad day.
RE Steve
‘By the way,Torres was limping heavily just before he scored. Is this a new tactic by Benitez to lead the opposition into thinking his Spanish Bum Boy is injured again or did El Nino’s head drop after Ronaldo scored and he wanted to take the easy way out as his buddy Gerrard had barely touched the ball by then’
haha ,we noticed that in the stretty. he kept clutching his ham string which lead to a few chants of our torres song but it never got going that much . I think his ham strings are made out of cheese strings
what we also found amusing is when we were about to take our penalty, torres was looking away which amused us. it was 22 minutes in to the match! Players sometimes do that when its like the 90th minute and they think ‘oh great we have lost, there is no way back’ but torres was acting like that after just 22, as if to say ‘oh i have no faith that we will get back in to the game’. LOL
Let’s face it.With this 2 teams, the outcome depends mostly in how United perform.Liverpool can play the game of their lives and they won’t win at Old Trafford if United are in the mood.Anyway, something else guys and i hope everyone pays notice to this. They made it 3-1 and with the game all but over they kept searching for more. With the game at 4-1 they kept searching for more. Now,i know the goal difference is at stake, but i have seen Ferguson and even Mourinho(when he beat us 3-0) order their side to slow down the tempo and don’t go for any more goals.Especially when they are a man up.That just exemlifies how rotten and bitter the waiter is.He was watching how tired and demorilised our players were and not once did he tell them to just play a passing game.I really hope that Ferguson was paying attention and from here on he will be more ruthless. At least with Liverpool.
Don’t get too depressed – its not as if UTD were beaten by a team that’s going to take this season’s title off them. Again ‘Pool played to deceive. The score line looks good, but looking beyond that “pool are still a very long way from being a good team – a team good enough to win the title Not this season and not next. UTD didn’t play at their best, but they were still better than ‘Pool at playing football. So if UTD can win the game in hand – home to Pompey – they’ll be 7 points ahead. Enough to finish as champions. And in the coming weeks I see the gap of 7 points creeping out to 10 points or so. Next weekend UTD at Fulham – remember last week – Villa at Anfield – a good bet for a draw – and Chelsea at Spurs – another draw looks likely. So all in all better to get a defeat out of the way now rather than in a big game later.
this is a dark day
i just couldnt bear not to win the league now
gerrards career needs to end with sweet fuck all
still lost 4-1 at home to liverpool though….haha
I like all united fans am gutted by the performance this afternoon.but like SAF said sometime ago that we would drop points, he’s been there and seen it all.we all know that they haven’t played well for 2 or 3 games but just like the cutie result last season we lost both games & still went on to win the EPL & Cl.we will do it again!yes the players were tired but so were Arsenals players and they played extra time and penalties and still beat Blackburn Rovers 4-0! This is the wake up call all the players needed and speaks more than anything SAF could tell them.I think from now onwards we’ll be seeing a different United:more focused, hard working and not taking anything for granted especially when we go 1-0 up. I think even SAF knew a result like this was coming when he said footy can kick you in the teeth! But we know that we have a talented squad of players who will not hide and will raise their game both individually and collectively.fergie will use this result to focus the players mind & clear it from all the negative crap. We are still on course to collect our trophies just keep the faith and believe.
Stuff happens.
Fortunately, stuff happened today and not on Wednesday.
Am I clutching at straws ? If UTD had taken their half-chances then the result would have been very different since there were a fair few half-chances that were off by a foot, this way or that. But, UTD didn’t take their chances while – no matter how one-eyed you are – L’poo certainly did take their chances today. Really beautiful finishing, too.
Fortunately, again, no game in mid-week so TheLads will have a few days to recharge their batteries.
Hair-dryer ? I don’t think so – SAF has to realize that the last few games (with the exception of the demolition of Fulham and the first half in Milan) were of a declining standard. No team can be “perfect” all the time. LIke I said, stuff happens – today, shit happened. FACHT.
Great article scott. Perfect example of the attitudes that make the club great.
Simple facts are it was a good result for us to have a reality check in a game we could afford to lose.
Definately will ignite the focus in the team to now go on and actually win the 5 trophies.
Nice spin on the game but I am gutted. To lose like that to Liverpool is hard for me to swallow. I can only hope this spurs the team forward and is a wake up call that no game is a sure win and we need to come to play. I have been pissed all week this game wasn’t pushed to Sunday to give us more rest and take away the advantage from Liverpool of playing on Tuesday which gave them three days to regroup, while we only had 2 days to recover after a tough game against Inter. Liverpool was able to take players off at the end of their game against Madrid and where high on confidence. With only two days before the game I knew it was going to be difficult but I did not expect that. Where was the Vidic I supported for player of the year?
Liverpool have all the momenteum and are only four games back. We need to take care of business from here on out and I think all talk about a foursome of trophies needs to end. We need to focus on the game infront of us, not the trophies!
I don’t want to over react because we had good moments but to lose like that to those bastards is to hard of a pill to swallow.
I said four games when I meant four points.
Absolutely gutted – to have conceded 4 x as many goals to Liverpool at home than all other teams at OT is terrible….yes we’re top and with game in hand but I’ll tell you this right now our defence looks shaky – v Inter Millan not tight, against Liverpool not tight – and this is not the team to be getting wobbly. The Gooners will fancy it against us big time and Villa!
Am I panicked – no, litle bit worried….YES. If the positions were the other way round, I know Fergie would see this as a huge result and would be telling the boys that we could catch Liverpool! Could be a very exciting finish.
It just hurts that Liverpool have done the double on us, and deserved each victory……Champions League final win v Liverpool would make up for it!
4-1 just dreadful
Scouser Scum fans just awful
Want pool in C.L.
Off topic. For all those ABU’s that thought Pederson didn’t dive and was brought down by Rafael the other week did you see him today at the Emirates? Cunt.
It was jus the kick up our backs we needed. Thou I would have taken anyone else. We got away with it with Inter, so lets hope it will be the catalyst for another good run, which we always manage to do after losing badly. If we had lost 2-1, the players might think, oh well, just a bad day in the office, and might have continue to play bad. But 4-1, I can imagine how bad they must be feeling right now.
Only hope for the one good thing to come out now, that is for Vidic’s card to be downgraded. The direction of the ball was going away from goal & Rio would have had time to cover.
I will say that with Giggs, Scholes, Rio, and Fergie in the locker room this will be turned into motivation to improve even further. We didn’t take a step back in our forward movement but we have slipped at the back. Vida and Rio aren’t clicking like they where and I think Rio’s injury is to blame for that. They need a bit more time to get back in the swing of it and hopefully Vida isn’t hit with a big ban, as Scott pointed out he shouldn’t receive. Fergie will use this as a tool and give us the dose of humility we absolutely need. We (fans and players alike) got a bit cocky and forgot that the talking needs to all be done on the pitch.
1-4 at Old Trafford, now that’s a true red blood bath, seeking solace… hmm..
Let the scum gloat, at the end of the day, they’re still scousers.
Had to work in Bude in Cornwall last night, which thankfully is dipper free, unlike where I live in Devon (Liverpool-On-Sea).
At least they will have spanked all their social last night, so I should have a quiet day tomorrow.
United will bounce back from this without doubt and at the end of the season yesterdays freak result will be forgotten when the tropy is held high.
After a season full of unconvincing performances & lucky victories, looks to me like Man U might only win the League Cup afterall.
King Eric: Pedersen’s dive was d most clean dive i have seen in a long time. that ref shud be demoted to d championship.
When we lost against Derby in the Carling Cup 1st leg we were beating teams left right & centre.then we lost, and it was a game we could afford to loose. Against the dippers it was a game we could afford to loose. Everyone in the ABU club will be loving this but with SAF at the helm he will make sure they are mentally right.with regards to Vidic he along with Ronaldo has played more games than anyone else in UTD team.I just think he needed a rest & a chance to reflect on what happened.but the whole team will learn &grow from this and will be stronger for it.
Another thing is that we can see where our weakness are and bcos of this be better prepared to counter this,we also now know how the dippers will play in the CL and we can plan to nulify gerrard & torres.this is a blessing in disguise
suhayl – 8 wins and the title is ours again mate. Bad result. The last time I saw a result like that was when QPR beat us at OT in 1992 with a Hat-Trick from Dennis Bailey. Checked the game again after Sky Plusing it, Andy Gray took great pleasure in emphasing what a thrashing this was, the cunt. Let’s just write this shit day off and recommence battle at Fulham next Saturday. Come on United.
Personally,i feel that when York beat us 3-0 at OT that was a worst result. Also,Fulham beat us 3-1 at OT in 2003 and without playing with an extra man. Those were worst results.
Last two games have been bad performances, but i’d rather have lost to liverpool than inter, if it meant we’re still in teh cup.
at the end of the season come may, giggsy will be raising the trophy above his head, whilst underneath him all the dippers are screaming BUT WE BEAT YOU 4-1..
chokers-if only there was an ability to place bets aginst each other here mate because I’d give you 4/1 odds on that we’ll win something else…clever name mate, I think the 10 premierships and 2 champs leagues which makes us the most successful club in the modern era would probably be enough to prove that wrong…not to mention we are the current English, european, and world champions…idiot
There where no boos at the final whistle because there were none of you feckers left in the stadium
Did I say Chokers… I meant Jokers!!!
