I hate to say it because I don’t know what it says about me but that day made me a football fan and particularly a United fan from then on. I live in america and soccer had just started showing on espn here, before that the world cup was the only soccer we would see. Soccer here ,especially where I lived, was seen as a total fag sport something for hippies euros and effite rich boys who couldn’t play a real sport. The only highlights we ever saw were guys rolling around like they had been shot crying waiting for the magic spray then jumping up and running on after they got a free kick. Then I met some cats from Leeds and they were pissed Eric was leaving their team for Manchester United for no less. I started watching games and pulling for United just to piss them off and saw what was really going on incredible talent, ridiculous endurance and some crazy ass passion. Eric played like a man possessed, Keano and Schmeichel were hardasses, Giggsy had crazy skills. When Cantona worked that dude over and SAF stood by him I knew who I was down for from then on.

What a superb piece. What a geezer. Firstly it just shows what a great man our manager is for standing by the King. I do miss Eric, can’t actually believe certain people said they rate Ronaldo higher than Cantona. Never, no way. There is no comparison in my opinion between the catalyst and inspiration and the permatanned ego maniac. (Don’t get me wrong I think Ronnie is a fantastic player) but as men, as I said, no comparison. He was like a fucking gladiator entering the arena with his chest puffed out and his collar up. Loved the bit in the extract where it says he put his collar down when he knew his game was over. Long live Eric the King.

Even when you were being a bit naughty I was with you 200 per cent coz I knew that you were a target for those idiots that they didn’t even managed to fit as your shoe lace.
Till this day I talk to people about you or even writing these few words and quickly I’ll get a lump in my throat and a bit of watery eyes as well.
