After news broke that West Brom have signed goalkeeper Sam Johnstone from Manchester United, the club have quickly replaced him as the third or fourth choice with Lee Grant from Stoke.

The 35-year-old started his career at Watford, before going on to sign for Derby, Sheffield Wednesday, Burnley and Stoke.

He has represented England at U16, U17, U18, U19 and U21 level and has played over 500 games at club level.

Still, you’d probably have guessed the winner at the Grand National more easily than ever predicting Grant would end up at United, but the goalkeeper claims that it is a dream come true to sign for United.

Moving to Manchester United has been a dream of mine for as long as I can remember. This was an opportunity that I couldn’t let pass and I’m thrilled to become a part of such a historic club. I’ve enjoyed every moment of my career so far and I’m now ready to continue learning and improving alongside some of the best players in the game. But at the same time, I intend to use my experience to help the team whenever possible.

I want to say a huge thank you to those close to me who have supported me along my journey so far. I’m looking forward to meeting my teammates and giving everything possible for the club in the upcoming season.

Johnstone, who has been at United since he was 16, has enjoyed loan spells out at several different clubs but the 25-year-old never made a first team appearance for the club. He has expressed his happiness at finding a club where he can settle.

It’s good to get through the door. I’ve played Championship games and won a promotion from League One with Preston but always seemed to end back at Manchester United or going somewhere else. Now it’s time to settle down and take my game up to the next level which I believe I can do here.
