Reports in Friday’s papers claim that Manchester United have agreed a deal with Atletico Madrid to sign Spain’s U-21 goalkeeper David De Gea.

United have been watching this lad for quite some time and Sir Alex Ferguson even missed one of our games to watch De Gea play earlier this season. This was just the third United game the boss has ever missed in his time as manager, as he watched our Champions League opponents with goalkeeping coach, Eric Steele.

The Mirror reckons a £16m deal is in place and the player has now been given permission to agree terms with us.

Just yesterday, David Gill suggested that we were ready to sign Van der Sar’s replacement. “We know the keeper we want and are in a good position, and I’m sure we can get the deal done.”
