United’s Best Miss Out On PFA Shortlist Again

PFA Player of the Year shortlist: Joe Hart, Sergio Aguero, David Silva, Wayne Rooney, Robin Van Persie, Scott Parker.

PFA Young Player of the Year shortlist: Danny Welbeck, Daniel Sturridge, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Kyle Walker, Sergio Aguero and Gareth Bale

Last season, Nani was voted Players’ Player of the Year for the champions but wasn’t even shortlisted for the PFA award. This season, Antonio Valencia, Michael Carrick and Jonny Evans all miss out, despite being our best performers. Evans was 23 at the start of the season which means he could have been shortlisted for Young Player of the Year but missed out on a place to Oxlade-Chamberlain, who has started just five league games this season and hasn’t played for 90 minutes once.

Hopefully they’ll have something else to celebrate at the end of the season…

no antonio valencia is a joke. don’t give a fuck all about lack of PFA nominess. when we are hoisting the premier league trophy the bitters and FA can suck on that.

  4. chichagiggs says:

sergio aguero on two lists? despite doing fuck all in times of need? and how the fuck are valencia and carrick not on that list? carrick’s been the best midfielder in england by far this season.

though i expect rvp to win the award. he’s dragged arsenal along. take away his contributions and they’d be lucky to finish 7th

Danny actually has a very good chance in this field. Piss take that De Gea isn’t on the YPOTY but shows the impact of early season form.

POTY will probably go to Hart or Robin vP but Wayne always has a shout.

It’s because the voting happens around december-january. Ande Valencia’s reallh.started to shine AFTER the voting finished. And our squad has been too affected with injuries to dominate the entire season.

Shame really. But a sign of strength of United as a club, if we can win the title with injuries like these.

    20!

  15. Balls of Steel says:

Sure, include a headline grabber with Oxlade (Thanks London Press) and a kid who has done near fuck all in comparison to the 6 months of football we’ve been privvy to.

Costas, Cheers son, Surprised? not really. Defenders would have to spill blood to make either list TBF. Even seeing Hart on there is a bit of a surprise but probably deserved.

I would have DeGea and Evans on the YPOTY. Defenders need their own competition.

Re Scholes these nominations are dependent on early season form. Scholes wouldn’t have been in anyones thoughts. Good shout though.

How this guy gets into the England team ahead of Michael Carrick is beyond me? And now he gets shortlisted ahead of Michael Carrick?

Joke of the Season goes to the F.A.

Anyways, fuck them all. They can stroke Scott Parker’s dick in one hand and Sergio Aguero’s dick in the other while being empty shells.

We have 20 and Michael Carrick all to ourselves. That’s all that matters.

  29. Balaji Sivaraman says:

Scholes could never have made the list.

The voting happens during the first half of the season and is wrapped up before February, I think.

  30. Costas says:

    @Fletch

I agree about defenders. And to be fair, it was quite hillarious that Giggs won player of the year in 08-09 instead of Vidic. I don’t remember if Vida was even nominated that year.

Player of the year awards often have to do with how important someone was to their side. RVP was Arsenal this season. In a similar manner, if Carrick wasn’t around, our midfield would have been in serious trouble after Fletcher’s illness. Take Aguero or Silva out of the City line up and it wouldn’t be a similar loss…

As for young player category, imo 23-24 is too old. I remember Ronaldo being nominated even when he was in his prime, lol.

  33. Park Life says:

it’s RVP’s and I don’t mind that actually.. I would keep Aguero only on that list as much as I love the white Pele… it would be

RVP, Aguero, Holt, Yaya Toure, Valencia

I think RVP will walk it purely because he carried the 10 mugs AND made the tea for the Arse.

If he had played the whole season Sholesey would have got my vote! I still cream every time we launches a 40 yard special.. oohhh baby!!

  34. NBI Red Onion says:

Who cares? Nobody remembers who the PFA. People remember players whose teams won titles.

The United teams that won the CL and League titles will always be world famous and remembered in a way e.g. Mr Parker won’t.

Winning the league and getting that medal round a players neck is the bees knees. These awards are a bit puffy if you as me.

  35. Costas says:

Another name that’s missing from the young player category is Phil Jones. His form has dropped in recent weeks, but surely he deserves the nomination more than Oxlade?

    @MG

KebabFathers. Should have locked him away before the Wembley final. :)

No Valencia carrick or Evans or de gea and jones for ypoty what the actual fuck?

  39. NBI Red Onion says:

@ Costas – Oxlade Chamberlain is class, he has been a revelation. Jones has not yet made a position his own and been inconsistent so its difficult to see how a utility player can get an award – for what position would he get the award?

Re the awards, what greater confirmation can player have of their ability then to be part of the team that wins the league. Hopefully this stupid PFA competition will drive our senior players to get that medal round their necks.

For what it’s worth for me objectively: RVP then Aguero have been top player. Youth: Oxlade-Chamberlain stands out as a star of the future based on his performance this year also seems a very level headed boy. Would not be surprised if Arsenal get both. Welbeck would be a close second.

LOL ok the fact that you want valencia, carrick AND evans ALL in the list is funny and unrealistic. I am fine with the list the way it is to be honest. Yeah Jonny Evans could and prolly should have been included but whatever. RVP will prolly win the player of the year award and Aguero the Young player of the year award. As long as we get that 20th title. It’s all good. COME ONNNN YOU REDSSSSS!!!!

  45. FletchTHEMAN says:

Zibbie is coming unhinged in his grief. Hang in there son. ;D

  46. edcunited1878 says:

This is how it’s been for a few years now, technically 3 years ever since Ronaldo left. But even then, we should all know how underrated our defense has been, Paul Scholes, Carrick, and the central midfield as a unit, etc.

The sum of United’s parts (skillwise, work rate wise and mentally) are far greater than any club throughout a season and consistently year in and year out.

This comes down to Sir Alex Ferguson. If we win #20, this validates Sir Alex Ferguson as the best modern day football manager that has ever graced a dugout. In an era of divas, divers, donkeys and dumbasses, there is only one manager who can envision, recruit, breed and mold selected players of varying skill and create a club with one direction, one spirit and one mentality over and over again.

  47. WillieRedNut says:

I love Wazza too! He’s our MVP! ;)

  50. FletchTHEMAN says:

    Willie/Zibbie:

Wayne Rooney is currently on 31 goals this season, 3 more will tie his personal best.

Also on 178 goals, one short of Georgie Best lifetime.

And they say he is on a slump. 3 more seasons and he should easily pass several of the clubs most cherished milestones.

  51. Spence says:

When will the media take their head out of Bale’s arse?!

  52. Zibbie says:

NBI so spot on as per the norm.
Rafa and Tony’s play on the right side has been GRRREEEAAAATTTTTTT! Tony is a Tiger!

Your post on when Teves, CR7 and Wazza ran rampant was AWESOME! Rooney has been forcing passes to get that frantic forward play going again, look at barca remember R&R&T with Park and Carrick and Paul and Andro. That they play deflections of advantage. They try tight passes and when deflected they all close down and turn it to there favor. Rooney wants that tight 1,2 touch football on the EDGE!!!!!

    http://www.expressandstar.com/uk/uk-sport/2012/04/16/roo-m-for-improvement/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+expressandstar_main+%28expressandstar.com+Main+Feed%29

This is why I love Rooney so, 31 goals and I have work to do.

How many world class strikers would play MF for 4 games with no fuss, out left in a 4-5-1, in the hole, 2nd striker, lone striker.#9 ect and lfb as well????????????? Good play so much more then 20 goals in the last 21 games. .

  53. WillieRedNut says:

The players would prefer a league medal anyway. 19/20

  54. Zibbie says:

    LOL Fletch Thanks mate!!!!

  55. Costas says:

    @NBI

He’s been a revelation, but if indeed the categories were made up during the first half of the season, how does he qualify for the list? In 2011 he played just 1 Premier League game and that was as a sub. His first start in the Premiership came on January 22nd against United. He has yet to complete 90 minutes in the Premiership.

Jones had a more stellar first 5-6 months of the season and was highly rated across the country. Indeed he is a utility player at the moment, but I don’t see the problem with that when you are playing well.

  56. WillieRedNut says:

Hold on? Where’s Heskey and Crouch on this list?

  57. Zibbie says:

It has been a while since CR left. At the time some one asked me, Zibbie if you in a fantasy world could chose for Man Utd CR7 or Rooney who would you take. My answer was Rooney, some 3+ years latter. I still would take Rooney. Now Messi is another matter all together. I bet he could play piano with his left foot. You like that foot note?

  58. Marq says:

I am actually ok with the list for Player of the Year Award. Scott Parker has done well, as has Joe Hart and Silva. And if Rooney is in the list, Aguero has to be in as well.

No brainer the winner will be RvP

But the Young Player of the Year Award…

    1) Daniel Sturridge: Don’t see him playing now. Does he even exist anymore?
    2) Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain: A good cameo against us is enough to put him on the list I suppose
    3) Gareth Bale: What has he done this year? Slot home an open goal in a FA Cup Semi?

If Evans is available for selection, he’d beat these 3 hands down.

Winner I think will be Aguero

  59. bayoRed says:

No Jonny Evans? Joke!!! Lets just win our title and laugh at everyone its sad however that hardworking lads dont get the credit they deserve because everybody hate Utd!

  60. Mikekelly12 says:

PFA awards are a joke, I think nominations have to be in by half time on the opening game of the season because the FA are inept in processing the nominations in time!

  61. Zibbie says:

I never saw Maradonna or Cruyf and Pele play regular ball as well as others, I caught some of ZeZu the other Ronaldo ect. but this fucking little Argentine of Italian decent is the best I have witnessed. The U-something team from the US played and beat the Argentine team and Messi did not play. He played the next game and took them straight to the title and wow that was my first time I saw him play. Bill Russel and Michael Jordan kept many great player from winning more, fuck head little fuck on a team of cunts and I like him! shit! fuck! Man Utd have got one CL meddle in his REIGN!!!!

Go Rooney 31 goals and more to come on the run in!!!!!!!!

  67. Zibbie says:

  68. NBI Red Onion says:

@ Costas – I hear what you say and I don’t know how many games Oxlade-Chamberlain has played, I think he also played Cup games as well, or when they vote, but the nomination is well merited on his play this season.

With Jones his first few performances were exciting in terms of his attacking play and that got wide attention, this worked quite well when he had Vidic/Rio and exprienced defence and a great Clev-Ando MF partnership to cover for him. With Vidic out and Rio often injured or struggling and a porous MF we were a defensive horror show for a while and he was part of the defence that leaked goals. Many people then cried out for him to be a MF and SAF played him there. However, that did not really work. At RB he was okay but not as good as Rafael or in my view Fabio or Smalling either. He may be one for the future and I think he has a good eye for a tackle when in position, he times tackles well, so I would like to see him back to a CD role but I think he needs a run in reserves for a while to adjust to the way United play at the back. If we have less injuries next term I expect him to get more time to bed in properly.

  69. RedRich says:

Another absolute disgrace. It’s all a conspiracy against us. The lies that have been told. We never get a decision.

How can Suarez, Henderson, Adams and the human donkey Carroll or Stevie me the best player ever at Anfield- except KKK of course- not have been selected, And Daniel Agger and that convict Skrtel?

And for young player, despite looking 49, how could they overlook Jay? Jay Spearing. Outrage.

Oh sorry, forgot about Downing. Don’t we all.

But we’re Liverpool!!!!! It’s not our fault they’re all shite.

  71. Giles Oakley says:

It’s a pretty outrageous pair of lists, but please don’t let it get into that habit of talking as though United will inevitably win the league to ensure justice is done. As Scott says, ‘hopefully’ we’ll win it, but can everybody press the ‘off’ button when about to make some stupid bragging comment assuming we’re going to win the title. It’s now openly admitted that complacency cost United the Wigan match, and at least some of that ‘got it won’ mood came from fans on sites like this, falling for the bait trailed in front of our snouts by the ABU media (and Mancini). Please, please don’t make the same mistake twice. Calm concentration and unbreakable will-to-win are what we need now, not playground boasting. Come on United!

  72. WillieRedNut says:

  73. NBI Red Onion says:

  77. King Eric says:

  78. wayne says:

Giles hi mate but i do think Utd will win the league not boasting just having faith in the lads, the team has battled all year with tons of injuries when most were writing them off as a inferior squad.
Not really into timidness and a lack of confidence,i’m not going to turn off any button and it’s not bragging we all deal with things in different ways don’t really understand why you’re not being more positive to be honest.

  79. T. says:

I think we got one or two young players better then Welbz. Is it some kind of lotto this PFA?

  80. Mikekelly12 says:

    King Eric

  81. Giggs12Gerrard0 says:

Where the fuck is Da Gea in young player nominee’s? I would also be disappointed if I was Leighton Baines as well he has been unreal this year.

I’m not surprised that Carrick has been omitted he can’t he even get a national team call up. Don’t worry Michael your appreciated by the biggest club this country has ever seen.

  82. Costas says:

    @NBI

Yeah O-C played mostly cup games for the first half of the season. His only league appearance was at Old Trafford in August. I could be wrong, but I believe that the awards are solely about the Premier League solely. That’s why I only mentioned his league record and that’s why his nomination surprised me.

No doubt that Jones has made mistakes. Especially in 2012. Don’t know what’s gone wrong (whether it was playing without the protection of some players like you said or the fact that he was bound to feel the pressure at some point), but I thought his performances in the first half of the season warranted a nomination (most of us probably felt the same at the time). I agree he hasn’t looked as good as Rio or Evans as a CB, but he hasn’t been a bad right back at all. The Wigan game was the first stinker he had in that position imo. He hasn’t been as a good a right back as Rafa, but that was going to be a tall order anyway.

What’s done is done. Wasn’t as shocking as Evans’ exclusion, but I still found it weird.

I think RVP has had a solid year and carried the library mob. A few players around the EPL have had better seasons than the others on that dog shit list….

Danny Simpson at newcastle…. prob the most cosistant RB in the league.

Vorm at Swansea – For the first 6 months, easily one of the best keepers in the league. Had much more to do than POSH BOY at citeh

Joe Allen at Swansea – very consistent year and part of the welsh barca revolution.

Jonny Evans – stepped into vida shoes and been imense, not only in def but can play a pass and starts some great attacks.

Leighton baines – has performed all year for rverton, even at the begining of the year when the toffee’s were toffee.

Basically, with the exception of RVP and maybe silver before xmas, the rest of the list is total BOLLOCKS.

Evans (who’s been a key player for the team at the top of the league as we speak) is also left out and they chose Kyle Walker instead.

Scott Parker instead of Michael Carrick, another key-player of the leading team, not to mention Paul “Signing of the year, 90+ pass%” Scholes. David Silva is choosen instead of Antonio Valencia, who has more assists (i think he still has atleast) in fewer games.

    What the fuck?

  100. Devil310 says:

  125. WillieRedNut says:

A prickly Blue, what is he to do. The Reds are the best, simply very true. They bemoan their luck, that’s their right. United have all the answers, we will always be ready to fight. 19/20

  126. Devil310 says:

    Arse down 2-0 Wigan

  136. Redbilly says:

Sorry lads. Late on the news :-)

  137. MG says:

You have to love the way Wigan play football

Play shit for 3/4 of the season and then decide to turn up to save themselves going down

    Brilliant business plan

  138. samuel - united WE stand says:

That formation wigan play is bearing major fruits. 5-3-2? Three center halfs, two wing backs, two strikers with one just behind. If moses adds an end product, he’d be quality.

  139. MG says:

    Martinez for England

  140. Albert Ross says:

Blubbering blues chose to morally cruise, snooze and lose while instead Reds bred dreaded Jedis like flies. No surprise. Don’t surmise. Be wise to the lies from the guys who despise our rise.

  145. JC says:

Will Keane with the hattrick in the reserves spurring the United comeback to tie it up 3-3 so far…

  146. Shebangsthedrums says:

Just switched the reserves back on 3-3. We were 3-0 down just before half time. Well done lads, true United spirit. Does anybody know, can they win the league tonight with a draw or do we need a win?

  147. Giggs12Gerrard0 says:

    Devil310

Mate don’t worry I’m sure we will get you by hook or by crook pal. I’m just gutted I got rid of my others as I love sorting out Reds making a trip such as you are. I’ll keep you updated mate.

  155. Clint-Iamyourpapii says:

    MG

I reckon Ashley Young or Luke Young are the only worthy lads to take home the Young Player of the Season award.

Player of the season….Carlos Tevez  an excellent golf player he is !

  156. Albert Ross says:

I’m like the one-eyed cat peeping in a seafood store.
We got 19, but I just want more.

Well I said Sheik, bottle and roll.

  157. samuel - united WE stand says:

If bale had joined united, FERGIE would have instilled winning mentality in him, he’d have added further repertoire to his game but chose spurs because he lacked the belief to stake a claim here and as they say, the rest is history. To be fair, he’s a good player though but can be over-hyped sometimes. 60million and all that Shit quoted for him, don’t take the piss.

  158. JC says:

    Oh Ritchie… :D so close to a 3-5 lead.

  159. Dazbomber says:

What a pass from Will Keane

  160. Giggs12Gerrard0 says:

  168. Shebangsthedrums says:

Oh lovely. de Laet getting in on the act.

  169. JC says:

Floodgates wide open now… Ritchie puts it away 3-6!!

  170. Costas says:

    6-3. :D

  171. samuel - united WE stand says:

United youth showing that priceless mentality ingrained in the club. 3-0 down, great come back.

  172. Shebangsthedrums says:

Mrad_leb – it’s other professional footballers, isn’t it. The voting is done in January, so basically if your good for the first half of the season you get listed. Don’t know how Chamberlain got in though, he didn’t play until Jan did he?

  173. Dazbomber says:

Albert Ross- I t had to be said I’ve dropped a few bombs

  174. Mikekelly12 says:

Now that’s a real come back, not one of these baby blue moral come backs!!

  175. Giggs12Gerrard0 says:

    Mike

  176. Mikekelly12 says:

    Giggs12
I might well do that mate, see if I can square an early dart with the ball and chain!! Be great to be 8 clear by 2.30!!

  177. dannysoya LOVES SIAN MASSEY says:

INCREDIBLE comeback from the youngsters. Will Keane is fucking IMMENSE. Is it time to promote him to the first team and give him some games in the carling cup? I would think so. CHAMPIONS OF THE NORTH!!!!

  178. samuel - united WE stand says:

Petrucci is a classy player. I remember reading an interview Of his on which he said he’s close to the first team but needed a complete midfielder (defensive solidity, awareness e.t.c) in order to break in. We’ve banged on about new midfielders but maybe FERGIE is holding out for those within the youth to step up.

  179. WillieRedNut says:

It’s interesting the floodgates have opened? City have the tallest floodlights in England? Also hear they’re a massive club! 19/20

  180. Giggs12Gerrard0 says:

    Jc and devil310

I’m not full of shit either it would be a pleasure to sort out some American reds.

American families looked after me for five years when I was living in the states so in a way it would be returning the gesture.

  181. WillieRedNut says:

6 3 Wigan? Martinez for United!

  182. Mikekelly12 says:

    DannySoya
Came on against Blackburn. Was only on a few minutes but didn’t look out of place. Apart from blocking a berba effort off the line in the closing seconds! Quality pair of boys the Keanes, heads screwed on.

  183. georgerooney says:

my player of the year joe hart hands down

  184. Devil310 says:

@Giggs12 – much appreciated mate. I’ll sure be glad to buy you a round or two whether we can sort out a ticket or not. Feel free to shoot me an email when you get a minute.

  185. Shebangsthedrums says:

Well done to the United reserve team. Great come back, could have given up at 3-0 down, but that’s not the United way. Congratulations, let’s hope they can complete it by winning the championship outright with a win against Villa.

  186. Albert Ross says:

Plastic explosives Dazbomber, that’s we need.

  187. Mikekelly12 says:

    Devil310
    When you over fella?

  188. samuel - united WE stand says:

mikeKelly – i agree. i can see the two keanes smoothly transferring into the first team. Both don’t get as much hype as the likes of pogba but are talented with the right attitude.

  189. WillieRedNut says:

Plastic is Blue. Real see through.

  190. Albert Ross says:

They’ve got the biggest floodgates in the Football League…
Oh! city are a massive Glub!

  191. Giggs12Gerrard0 says:

    Mike

    I have to

  192. Giggs12Gerrard0 says:

    Mike

I have told her I have earnt the right after doing two Sundays of chores and missing qpr and villa. What she forgot is I went to every away game in that time to make up for it. My missus thinks we have 38 home games a season

  193. WillieRedNut says:

I’m head over heels for United! So is Nani, apparently.

  194. FletchTHEMAN says:

Reserves fight back to 3-6 win away. Amazing fight back after 3-0 down. Will Keane with 4. The lad is a talent.

  195. WillieRedNut says:

Danny Welbeck is so gangly, really hard to believe it. City had the chance to sign him, but couldn’t achieve it. 19/20

  196. Mikekelly12 says:

    Giggs12
I’ve only missed one game so haven’t got the same bargaining power but will put my defence notes together tonight. Her family are mad reds so tend to get their backing for United all dayers….

  197. Giggs12Gerrard0 says:

McCarthy of Wigan is class I would take him in a heart beat

  198. Mikekelly12 says:

    New thread

  199. WillieRedNut says:

New thread, but there’s no need to get the needle!

  200. Stenis says:

To be fair, Rooney deserves this. He’s our best and most important player. We set such high standards for him to live up to, sometimes we forget how great he truly is.

  201. Saad says:

Aside from the voting being a farce, what makes it even more stupid is when it takes place. What is the FA’s problem with having the vote in May???

  202. LoneStarRed says:

Will Wigan hold on………Will Arsenal equalize….Will Van Persie break his barren patch……Will Wenger ever speak English….Will Martinez say “fantastic” forty times in the post match interview…..Tune in after the match

  203. Albert Ross says:

Hay, stacks of threads to search for needless remarks.

  204. Saad says:

Wow, Wigan! Take a bow, sons!

  205. LoneStarRed says:

    Dang. Freaking Wigan!!!!! Well Done.

  206. WillieRedNut says:

    Dong good!

  207. King Eric says:

Wayne. Hello mate. I will be blunt. Smartalex !

Devil310. Sorry mate. Gave out the wrong email. Its mooren05@leedslearning.net. I missed out the 05 part! Send it again please.

  208. Giles Oakley says:

Wayne, it’s not about ‘timidness’ or lack of confidence, it’s about complacency. It was so clear in the run-up to Wigan that far too many people, both among the players and supporters thought the title was in the bag. If you don’t believe it, look at what David Sadler had to say in the MEN on the subject. The players are not immune to wild mood-swings among fans, picking up the tension on the terraces (sorry, stands, ) and letting it affect how they play. They also clearly picked up the triumphalist mood and thought all they had to do was turn up v Wigan and the 3 points would drop into their laps. No-one doubts United have it in them to win the title, that’s not the issue. It’s about making that happen, and the part supporters can play in that. How we help get the best out of the team in the next four matches. I think Fergie has realised he got it slightly wrong emphasising United’s ‘experience’, and is now much more cautious in his pronouncements. He’s said how easy it is to get bitten in the bum on these occasions. The margins of success or failure are small, hence the need for maximum concentration and resolve. Lack of confidence? No. Over-confidence? No. Just intensity and determination on the pitch, that’s what we need.

Now is the time for match-going Reds to keep up the support, even if things go wrong. It could make all the difference, starting at Old Trafford v Everton. Come on you Reds!

  209. mattos says:

    carrick > parker
    valencia > silva
    evans > walker

but hey, who cares. as long as we know how good they are i couldnt care less what the PFA thinks

  210. jaschadavid says:

why Hart > David “Goku” De Gea?
    Why Oxlade > Valencia
Why Aguero > Ba or Dempsey
    Why Parker > Tony V.

all the nominees bar RvP & Rooney arent fit to wipe Scholes, Tony V, Dempsey, Ba, De Gea’s bottom

evans should be nominated for the young player award.

  211. jaschadavid says:

    Correction:

why Hart > David Goku?! Why Silva > Valencia, Why Aguero > Ba or Dempsey, Why Parker > Tony V.

all the nominees bar RvP & Rooney arent fit to wipe Scholes, Tony V, Dempsey, Ba, De Gea’s bottom

    WHY even OXLADE got nominated?!
evans should be nominated for the young player award.

    apologies for the previous post

  212. Gary says:

How Clint Dempsey never made the 6 is beyond me!? Parker and Hart should never have been on the list but they’re both English and media darlings (especially Parker) so that’s obviously a good enough reason.
