Van Gaal: I’ve proven Dutch media wrong

Holland have had a fantastic World Cup so far with Louis van Gaal stealing the limelight with fantastic substitutions winning game after game.

Robin van Persie and Arjen Robben have been particularly impressive but it takes more than two players to progress to the quarter-finals of the World Cup. Good performances and top tactics have meant that some people are even claiming Holland are favourites, which must come as a surprise to the Dutch press who wrote them off before the tournament.

“Let me tell you, the Dutch media thought we would never survive the first round, so how we ended up becoming up favourites I’ll never know,” Van Gaal said. “This group of players is very modest. We have outstanding spirit, outstanding atmosphere and that led to victory. Costa Rica are very difficult opponents, otherwise they wouldn’t have ended up in a quarter final.”

    All Hail President Louis Van Gaal of Republic of Manchester!!

  2. ashtheking says:

    Top manager and by far he best so far in this World Cup . Kudos to LVG

  3. samuel - united WE stand says:

    Tactically innovative, pro-active, risk taker. Van gaal is astute in every sense and his presence breeds utter confidence.. As i’ve always said, a team mirrors its manager and hopefully van gaal takes united up another gear to the level they aspire to reach.

  4. Sparkz says:

    Can’t wait for him to start. Exactly the type of manager we should have gone with initially but fair play to the Glazers for acting as soon as possible.

    A proven track record, a great tactical brain, and a huge personality – everything about him says ‘Manchester United’

  5. warrored says:

    Well according to Neil Warnock on TalkSport, he’s not impressed with LVG at all as his tactical changes haven’t worked but thinks ‘Brendan’ and his capabilities as a manager are the only thing that can turn Englands form around and make them winners!!

  6. warrored says:

    Martin Samuel had a foot note in his column about Pogba. He said that there is no way Chelsea will buy Pogba if they know the reason he left United.

  7. dannysoya LOVES USAIN BOLT says:

    So happy we will have a risk taker in charge of Manchester United again. Feels great waking up every morning and realizing that fact.

    Hope the “truth” does come out one day because i’d like to know. Still scratching my head at the way the whole situation unfolded. Massive fan of the boy. Pretty sure he’ll go on to big things in the future.Seems like he’s staying at Juve anyway, except he’s just not keen on Chelsea and is looking to go elsewhere. Juve were always a stepping stone for him anyway. Very few youngsters go to forge a career in Italy. Balotelli’s agent came out the other day and said his client should never have returned to Italy. And i agree. He’s not all that he’s cracked up to be but he’s got some talent and the Premier league suits him perfectly. Read Pool are interested in him. Not sure Wenger’s gonna gamble his 30-40 million on him though

  9. warrored says:

    @Danny….I agree mate. I am a lot more confident going into the season with LVG in control. I gave Moyes my support at times through gritted teeth. In the end it was never going to work, he just isn’t big enough for the job. I ended up forcing myself to watch games and that has never happened in 45 years of supporting United.

    I think we are in for a treat with LVG.

    @slim…..yeah the truth will out at some point. Let’s face it, his potential was there from day 1….even a blind man could see it so there has to be more to it. There is no way we wouldn’t have done more to keep him. Wed just signed Jones at the same age as Pogba for £20 million and on 40K a week so the money was there…..

    Is there more to him and Morrison being shunted out than we know?

    There were rumours of players belongings being stolen from the dressing room during games. Morrison even asked Rio on twitter to confirm it wasn’t him who was behind it which Rio did.

  10. slim says:

    Yeah remember the thieving incident. put my money on Ravel for that bu i think i remember the Rio tweet you referred to. ah well. some day we’ll get the full gist i reckon.

  11. dannysoya LOVES USAIN BOLT says:

    @warrored.
    Absolutely spot on. I also had to force myself to watch games. I used to go into games with a feeling of resignation. It was terrible. If Moyes could have taken more risks, he might still be in charge but alas he couldn’t bring himself to do it and he promptly was dismissed. He’s not a shit manager, he’s just not a Manchester United manager.

  12. Tommy says:

    I admit I was like the Dutch media, I doubted they would get out of the group but LVG has worked wonders with that squad, they have 2 top class players Robin and RVP, 1 very good defensive midfielder in de Jong and the rest of the team is either avarage or young but hes got them to the quarters and probably the semis as well with Costa rica the team they face, however their not favourites for me theirs still teams with better squads, but LVG is maximizing the squad to its full, bodes well for next season.

    @Slim

    Still banging on about Pogba, Hes a money motivated prick, even Martin Samuel is telling the rent boys to avoid signing him, says it all if that club is getting worned off, no big deal, we have let far better players go in the past and survived and we will let better go in the future and the club survives

  13. Craig Kapaj says:

    Looks like LVG won’t have any trouble proving the scouse loving media wrong in England

  14. Mirainashe says:

    Pogba. That money motivated prick. The nerve. I think being a fan doesn’t mean we have to pretend that we are blind. Ferguson screwed that one. That’s all. Why don’t we also call Ronaldo a money hungry prick and a glory hunter. At least in Ronaldo’s case, we made him into a superstar and he was acting like a jerk in his last season. Talking about slavery and all. If you’re a young player rated highly everywhere else then your own coach doesn’t show faith in you. Let’s your contract run out. Then another club comes in and says, hey we can guarantee you first team football. We’ll give you a chance to make a claim. A team with players like Marchisio,Pirlo,Vidal saying we can give you a chance at first team football. Yet a team with Carrick,Anderson and Cleverly won’t even give you a look in. They’ll rather give Rafael and Park Ji Sung a shot at playing in midfield. Would you feel valued or would even hope to make progress. You definitely go to the team that values you to the extent of saying we are prepared to bench Marchisio,Vidal and freakin Pirlo if you take your chance. No reserves. No loan. No broken promises. Knowing fully well it’s the same team that tried to sign you back when MUFC bent a few rules. It’s a no brainer. Let’s not embarrass ourselves with the misplaced blame game. We didn’t value him as much as Juventus did and we broke the promise that we made about giving him chances aka we messed up. Let’s get over it. He hasn’t had any problems at Juventus or with his national team from youth to senior level so this whole bad boy thing is a myth at best. And if we’re doing character assassinations let’s start with our legends and senior players who misbehave. I don’t like this idea of hypocrisy as a show of patriotism. Let’s criticize the HUMAN BEINGS in charge at the club when they screw up and not jump to defend them as if they are MUFC. We need to progress and we can’t do that by being blind to the faults of legends. It’s like how everyone spends time criticizing the Glazers when we all know Ferguson was the one screwing up in the transfer market with his insistence on a policy of “Anything but midfield”. Or people clamoring for Giggs to get the top job he doesn’t deserve. Why can’t he work and prove worth like everyone else. In football terms, the club is bigger and more enduring than legends and protecting legends at the expense of the club is suicide. When they mess up they should be criticized. Not pampered or covered.

  15. Tommy says:

    @Mirainashe

    Pogba was planning his exit 18 months before leaving, If you dont believe that something went on which forced SAF not to play Pogba then youre very deluded indeed, he went to Juventus because they offered him the bigger pay packed and he will do the same to PSG, they will offer him the bigger pay packet. “If you’re a young player rated highly everywhere else then your own coach doesn’t show faith in you.” How can you say that, he signed him at 16 from Le Havre, he should complete faith in Pogba, and Pogba let him down, end of story, we move on.

  16. Paschal Agwunobi says:

    @mirainashe
    Thank you. You just said my mind SAF is a legend, but he’s still not MUFC.he screwed up with pogba.its’s plain and simple.

  17. John says:

    The way Sir Alex ignored centre midfield signing is beyond belief. A true gentleman, legend, greatest man-manager of all time chose a right time to retire. He was the last old school manager of football with 4-4-2 and 4-5-1 as his dear formations and moyes comedy. Thank you fergie.

    Welcome Van Gaal, the father of modern football and the greatest tactician ever.

  18. Kris Okechukwu says:

    @Mirainashe: Thank you u very much. I think d deluded one here is d person who has allowed sentiment override his thinking. Pogba was planning to leave 18months before is current ended really? I read pogba saying he made up his mind to leave d day rafael and park played ahead of him in d CM and next week scholes returned from retirement. David Gil said last two months or there about that they offered pogba one of d best package but he does not think d boy left because of just money. Because we love saf therefore everything he does is right, am not a party to such sentiments. The young boy wants to play and we did not give him d chance. Simple!!!

  19. Tommy says:

    @Kris Okechukwu

    Im not using sentiment at all, why the fuck would SAF play a player who had no plans to stay lol, makes sence to give him experience for someone else to take advantage of, bless him, the young boy only wanted to play, do me a favour, for 18 months or their abouts the talk whenever pogba came up was he was looking to leave so if I knew it and the avarge man on the street knew it, do you think SAF wouldnt know it lol, He didnt want to be here so fuck him and his money grabbing fuckwit of an agent, im not going to lose any sleep over him, he will never play for a bigger club than United!!!

  20. Tommy says:

    SAF is the best manager of all time at spoting a player, are people really deluded enough to think their was not a reason why he didnt play, some people are not very bright I must say

  21. iamMatty says:

    Tommy as admirable as your antics are, its quite pathetic. You just speculating… What ifs and what nots.
    Can you actually prove that the boy pogba. Wanted to leave 18months ago?
    Stop living in denial, SAF screwed up that one mate.
    He was captain of our FA youth team, the leader. On the pitch he represented everything we hold dear at united. Pity we saw the later years version of SAF totally mess up the whole situation.
    Its common knowledge that the blackburn game was the last straw.

  22. Tommy says:

    @IamMatty

    Of course it was the Blackburn game as Pogba would let us all believe it was the Blackburn game, he never wanted to be at United, all those Pogba lovers are NOT United fans, you cant be a United fan if you want players who didnt even want to be here, and to even consider taking Pogbas side over SAF is ridiculous, most of the people on here wouldnt even be United fans if it werent for SAF

  23. Kris Okechukwu says:

    hereisthecity.com/en-gb/2014/07/03/rio-ferdinand-this-is-why-paul-pogba-left-manchester-united/ that was Rio on BBC yesterday

  24. Tommy says:

    @Kris Okechukwu

    You missed out the bit where SAF said he had agreed to join Juventus a long time before he actually left, I know who I believe SAF, or a greedy man who has a greedy agent, they had agrred to join Juventus a long time before that Blackburn game and like I said numourous times why the fuck would SAF play a play who had no intention of staying

  25. John says:

    @Tommy

    Then why did SAF begged one more season from Ronaldo who clearly was throwing his toys to sign for Real Madrid?? Oh Tommy the hypocrite!

  26. Tommy says:

    @John

    He didnt beg, he asked, because he didnt want to do buisness with Ramon Calderon, simple as that, so he said give uis one more year in which Ronaldo did and was as professional as they come, id have more respect for Pogba if he admitted he was looking to leave months before he actually did

  27. iamMatty says:

    Tommy you can like to make a dummy out of yourself. But we all are not blind or too stupid to see the truth. There’s no shame in admitting that saf(God bless him) got this one wrong too, just like he did with bebe,djemba djemba, liam miller, david moyes etc.
    And you resorting to the immature “oh you are not a united fan” blackmail to anybody who doesnt have the same opinion with you is really annoying to be honest. You all did it with moyes, and as much you wouldnt admit it ended up with rotten eggs up your faces.
    http://hereisthecity.com/en-gb/2014/07/03/rio-ferdinand-this-is-why-paul-pogba-left-manchester-united/
    Btw i cant remember pogba bashing the “club” as you would have us all believe. His jabs has always been directed to one man and one man alone, and as great as that man is or was, he was never never manchester united. Manchester united is bigger than any one single person.

  28. Tommy says:

    @iamMatty

    You missed the bit where he said he had already agreed to join Juventus months in advance, I am not blackmailing anyone just telling the truthy without SAF, you wouldnt be a United fan, thats just a fact

  29. Kris Okechukwu says:

    Saf asked for one year because he did not want to do business with calderon Ramon, what a rubbish absolutely rubbish. I hate it some people take us to be fools.

  30. Tommy says:

    @Kris Okechukwu

    How is it rubbish? He said it in his own book he didnt like the way Calderon was doing buisness and he was leaving the following year, why would he lie, what would he seriously get out of lieing lol, get a fucking grip fella, another one that probably hates British people
