Van Persie: It’s An Honour To Sign For United

After signing a four-year-deal with the club, Robin van Persie claimed it was an honour to play for United.

“It’s an honour to sign for Manchester United,” he said. “I am looking forward to following in the footsteps of so many great strikers, bringing my experience and playing my part to help the team compete for the biggest trophies in the game. I can’t wait to get started.”

@uNited one might add….We’re not in Kansas anymore, Toto!

The more I read about him the better I feel. He wanted to come to a club with history and tradition that wins trophies, it’s why he only ever would have considered Barca or Juve or United and not Shitty.

He also comes across as a very thoughtful and intelligent reader of the game if new Dutch coach Van Gaal’s comments are anything to go by.

RvP welcome to Manchester. The real one and not the Shitty side.

    Bring it on!

  6. Cherry says:

The whole world wants him to get injured in his first kick of the ball so that they can rub our noses in it. I hope and pray that he stays fit and have an exceptional season. Roll on Monday!

  15. Farewell, Robin says:

“The bottom line is that I want to win trophies with Arsenal, not with anybody else. I know you can win trophies in many countries and in many ways, but I want to do that in our way and in an Arsenal shirt.

‘I’m sure I could win things at another team in another country, but would it feel like our trophy, my trophy? I’m not sure it would. Anything we win here will come from the heart and that’s what I want. It’s my dream and I see no point in speaking about other teams when I have these dreams. I think other people know that about me; I’m just hungry to win with Arsenal and that’s it – Robin van Persie, February 2011

It’s a shame, it really is, but congrats United fans. Thank you Robin, but we will move on.

    Cannot wait til Monday!
Robin & Rooney up front! Also excited to see Kagawa, probably the most underrated signing of the summer in the Premier League. With Clevs and Vida back and the bitters only signing a player who was struggling to break into a midtable team last season, the title must be crossing over from Stockport to Manchester!

  18. 911_DEVIL says:

I’m extremely happy to see such a quality player joining us.
I’m sure the van persie-rooney partnership will be dangerous in the next few seasons.
    Welcome robin!

Wow Im hopping from page to page trying to keep up. Anyway welcome to the biggest sport club in the world ever. Hope to win more bets this season

  20. FletchTHEMAN says:

Number is rumored to be 20 as of now.
I am guess 9 if Berba is traded.

The 31 in the signing photo is just the training kit. They get handed out as lads come into training and are paired with biosensor decals to help the physios follow the progress of training. Bet the Fergie+RvP shot paid a nice dividend to DHL for their training top sponsorship.

    Balaji nice long post
Yes SAF is awesome. What a team for the run for 20!!!!!!!!!

  22. Gooner says:

We were sacrificing animals to the gods praying he wouldn’t get injured last season, don’t be surprised if he spends most of his time in your treatment room. Not sorry to see that disloyal bastard leave to be honest.

Forgive me for reposting this thrice. Scott’s on fire today and I think this is the thread where all the conversation is going to happen.

    Reposting from the previous thread:

You know what I find most funny about the whole RVP affair, it is watching all the ABU journalists and Arsenal fans try to put a negative spin on it. It is seriously their lowest behavior yet.

For one, I do believe it is ultimately a good deal in terms of money for Arsenal. They get over 20 mil for a player in the last year of his contract. That is good value, something we’re not going to get for Berbatov. However, RVP is also coming off his best season yet and is probably worth that amount, if not more, provided he stays injury-free.

In terms of personnel, it is funny that Wenger is trying mind-games with his players by saying that RVP is a huge loss. I am sure he is hoping that it will inspire them to greatness. However, RVP is, in fact, a huge loss simply in terms of quality for them. The new players might all have splendid seasons like we did in 06-07. Or they could all find it difficult to settle in. Who knows? Either ways, saying that losing RVP (their top scorer last season) is a good thing is the highest form of denial I’ve read so far.

In terms of the ABU journos, what a load of crap. It is clear that they “want” RVP to fail. They hope RVP and Rooney don’t click. Because if they do, then the league is pretty much fucked. They hope RVP picks up an injury and they hope Rooney doesn’t click like he did with Berba.

And those calling this a move of desperation. How funny is that? What is desperate about signing arguably the world’s best striker on top of his game for under 25 mil. I am sure if Mancini had signed up RVP (which was definitely on the cards), these same fuckers would be calling it a stroke of genius. They’d be saying it is great to get the league’s top scorer to make up for two troublesome strikers. They’d be saying how Mancini bought RVP right under Fergie’s nose, and how it was already a pre-season win for Mancini over Fergie. But now that Sir Alex has got one over Mancini and City with the signing of RVP, they’re trying to put every negative spin on it, which is absolutely disgusting. Another show of how ABU the English press truly is.

Also, I don’t think we’ll have the Berba problem with RVP. Berba is totally a different quality of player compared to RVP, who is sort of similar to Ronaldo in terms of dribbling with the ball and taking players on. I can see Rooney and RVP clicking along with Kagawa to back them up. That has the potential to be one of the most lethal partnerships in the world right now.

Also, it is funny how people aren’t praising Sir Alex’s genius more. You look at any other side and they all have one form of attack. They don’t have a Plan B going forward including Spain and Barcelona. You look at the current squad Sir Alex has assembled and all you see is dynamism there. We can play the quick one-twos to split open defenses with Kagawa, Cleverley, Rooney and RVP. We can bang in crosses from either wing all day through Young, Tony V and Nani and exploit any weaknesses on the wing. If it’s late in the game and we don’t have a goal, we can bring on Chicharito and use his lethal threat to get a quickie in.

Really, the options in terms of going forward are limitless right now. We have plans A, B, C and even D if that is needed. Sure, it all depends on how good our back line is, but I am sure Sir Alex has something worked out for that too. If Wenger did the same thing, the press would be wanking all over him and singing his managerial praises. But because this is Sir Alex, most of the press is trying to come up with all negative conclusions to this signing.

Another pathetic show from the ABU English press.

  24. zhukov43 says:

Finally we have another Van in the team, welcome to United RvP, I challenged him to a double hat trick debut lol, it’s a challenge I set Rooney every game, twitter is awesome, wonder who the final signing will be, hopefully a DM will be purchased….

  25. Balaji Sivaraman says:

Atin, LOL! Scott’s pissing all over my parade today. That’s fine, it’s not everyday you sign Robin Van Persie, is it?

Anyways, apart from my rant in the previous three threads, the thing that pisses me off most about this is that people saying that RVP is a mercenary. REALLY! That the best you can come up with. If this was about the money, then there was a much better offer from the team across town. It would’ve been like hitting the jackpot for Robin. Easy money and it wouldn’t have mattered whether he played or not, he would’ve been rich beyond belief. And they are Champions as well, so that’s an added advantage.

However, Robin, like Dimitar (Bless Him again!) clearly has his priorities right. He knows where to go for the next stage of his career and which team can take him forward. He knows that some things are more important than money.

I can understand why Arsenal fans might be infuriated. I would be too if Rooney had kissed my badge and then left for City or Arsenal. (Oh wait, that almost happened, didn’t it?) In Rooney’s case, he was coming off “one” trophyless season and wanted us to show more ambition. That is an argument that doesn’t hold hold a lot of value. In Robin’s case, he is coming off EIGHT trophyless seasons and has seen every player alongside him move on to better things. I do agree that it would be infuriating to see someone do that. But I would’ve at least understood his reasoning.

  26. FletchTHEMAN says:

Ferguson on MUTV ‘He was desperate to come to United. Its been a longhaul, not an easy one. Thankfully we got there.’ via Harriet Drudge

This is legendary stuff from Robin. Hope he puts it all on the pitch and lets his goals do the talking.

    Fergie also mentioned Macheda… interesting.

Off topic: What is going on with Berbatov? Embarrassing!

  27. Balaji Sivaraman says:

    Zibbie, Thanks buddy! :D

I tried linking it, but the post didn’t show up. As I said, Scott is pissing all over my ABU parade today and I am actually happy for it.. LOL!

  28. Robbo says:

Apart from being one of if not the best signing so far it also takes a little pressure of Kagawa. While all the ABU’s will be focusing on RVP, Kags can go and demolish the opposition with his inteligence and skill.

  29. Red Devil says:

Man Utd is da besssst….We will win all da trophies now…Go Van Persieeeee Go Roooneeyyy
We need to buy some more players like Kaka and Cavani and Javier Martinez and Debuchy for full back and we will be unstoppableeeee..GGMU

  30. 911_DEVIL says:

Absolutely terrific signing, I think sir alex knew before april that he’ll be having van persie in the squad, can’t be soo fooled, hence he bought kagawa
With the tremendously quick and magical kagawa, we sure gonna destroy team in the league and in champions league swel…

Never been soo excited about a signing for a while now, but must admit kagawa aswel is quite exciting
Kept telling myself ‘no this aren’t happening when in fact it did happen’
The reason why this is a big deal its because it eliminates to big things. Number one, we’ve a great player like van persie who on his on is good enough to destroy teams he will us the X-factor. Number 2, it takes away some of the pressure on wayne.
As for van persie injury record I don’t think that’s an issue as he will not have the pressure of carrying the like he did at arsenal.
Even if he gets an odd injury we’ll still have enough firepower upfront to make up for his absence. So all in all we have signed a world club player, the best player last season in our league, and he will give 4-5 seasons
    Good signing!

  31. Zibbie says:

I’m so excited by this RvP, flip side so unlike MUFC for a signing. This tells me SAF might know when he will hang up the gaffer boots. 2 years for him left. RVP is for trophies now to set the ship straight for the transition to the new gaffer. A 29 yr old to add a world class threat for 2-3 years to let the lads grow with less pressure.

Enjoy this last great team of this great man, a true ICON of the world.

  32. jay4manutd says:

@costas why are you finding negatives with this deal, about the only person on the thread doing that…….the fact he score 39% of arsenal goals doesn’t make him not a 29 injury prone,he wasn’t desperate to join united rather to leave arsenal, you wanted to find out about his wage to compare to nani and vidic, all you said..so many negatives it beggers belief….welcome RvP,great signing.GGMU

  33. Redbilly says:

I would find it an honour too, even if it’s working with the groundsman. I would love to know what the gunners fans who’ve read this have to say.

  34. 911_DEVIL says:

Yeah great manager, great all round couching staff, very, very intelligent and always a step ahead of every manager in the 3 best leagues

If manchester united is all what it is today we owe it to the iconic scot
I’m really in love with the club
    Take a bow sir alex

  35. Redbilly says:

Robbo- 12:04. The Beauty if the line up is it keeps the opposition guessing. Imagine trying to workout your strategy prior to team sheet release. Let’s not forget some of the up and coming talent the boss had signed this window. Its very exciting .

  36. 911_DEVIL says:

Who am I to judge the greatest manager on earth?
    I don’t even quality to do that ;) :P

  37. fergie is the boss says:

FletchTHEMAN – I think some PPL are getting the wrong end of the stick, can rooney and RVP work, of course they work, rooney withdraws, van persie is more of your typical goalscoer, and with kagwa nani valencia young cleverly carrick scholes to fill those creative roles, these guys will score for fun. What is a problem, is how does kagwa rooney and RVP fit into the 11, I said play 352 to get the best of of the 3, because we are so limited at the back. But it is obvious the boss tends to use kagwa in a more wide inside forward position. I do see united lining up like this, esp if rafeal is not available

    DDG
    TnyV ferdinand vidic evra
    carrick cleverly
    nani rooney kagwa
    RVP

  38. Costas says:

    @Jay

It’s called an opinion. I don’t have to defend anything.

  39. Jay says:

This seems so unreal, I feel bad for the Arsenal supporters the betrayal must be devastating. It would be like seeing Rooney sign for Manchester City, the only reason for Rooney not signing was because he knew his life would be made hell. I honestly feel for Arsenal and I have total sympathy for their fans, saying that if Robin van Persie can replicate last seasons form for United that would be amazing. Hopefully his signing gives the whole team a lift and sends the message out to the world that we can still bring in top players who want to play for the club.

  40. fergie is the boss says:

jay I have agreed with Costas, there allot of cons and flaws with signing RVP, and with united’s medical team, I do not like RVP’s chances, plus we may only get 2 or 3 years tops for RVP. It is a shame we did not break the bank for aguero a few years ago

  41. jay4manutd says:

@FITB fair enough but heard van persie has changed his training methods,so hopefully injuries are well behind him, last season wasn’t a fluke playing so many games.he is more matured and strong nw and at just 29,he is at the peak of his powers.but your worries are welcome.am sure we all want him to succeed…

  42. jay4manutd says:

@FITB if the 3yrs we get from him makes us thrice champions of england and 2wice champions of europe,i bet you will be a lil happy right,lol..i just prefer to focus on the positive and support the team that’s all,not like there is anything you can do about him coming now,so why be negative.thankfully we all have our opinions, makes it interesting so no hard feeling..#20 #5 all the way i pray

  43. Costas says:

    @FITB

That’s an interesting what if considering that Aguero’s fee and wages are pretty similar to RVP’s.

  44. DreadedRed says:

RVP – it is an honour to sign for United.

However, playing for us is the real honour that awaits you, do it justice.

  45. fergie is the boss says:

Jay – the injury record with our squad worries me, I am being skeptical, twice we signed players for big money in their late 20′s, veron and berbatov, and they did not work out.

The positives for RVP is? he fits the way united play allot more, he has great movement, he leads the line, great Ariel ability, and he can fit into different formations, so if we decide to play kagwa and RVP it will work, and RVP will easily be a great alternative for rooney, if rooney is injured, that is my positive.

But last season was his first injury free season, and many say well 24 million is much cheaper than carrol’s 35 million pound fee, but do not forget liverpool were buying potential. He has to hit the ground running considering his age, so its allot more of a make or break signing for united.

But like I have said, rooney and RVP fitting in is not the problem, its getting the best out of all 3 of kagwa rooney and RVP. Does the boss sometimes decide to put nani rooney RVP in a front 3, and have carrick cleverly and kagwa be the more of the CM players, with kagwa being the more of the attacking midfielder that stays central, we will see. Possiblly a tactic we may see in europe

  46. fergie is the boss says:

but Costas I still think we should ditch 4 at the back, and play 352 of

    DDG
    ferdinand vidic jones
    carrick cleverly
    valencia kagwa nani
    rooney RVP

That is the only way to get the best out of kagwa rooney RVP

  47. mara says:

I dont know…maybe time will convince me that i m wrong. but i feel like we always pay more than others…others pumping the price and then they go out from trqnsfer and then we come and pay more than we should because others are “interested” too…
on the other side…Seringham was to old for me, but in the end he gave us the best Champions league final in history…Saf knew obviously…

  48. Costas says:

    @FITB

It would have to be Evra on that left side. Someone has to defend, lol. I am not totally against 3-5-2 on special occasions. But only if we play the most fitting players for that formation. Anything else could backfire.

  49. Costas says:

    @FITB

Correction on my Aguero post. He cost City about 14 million more than RVP cost us. So the fees weren’t exactly similar.

  50. 911_DEVIL says:

Just seen van persie on the official club site
In a DHL training kit, wow
Still seems sorrel, absolutely over the moon
    He’s such an outstanding footballer
    Great finisher

  51. Jay says:

Are people responding to me or the other Jay.

  52. mara says:

I believe that SAF knows situation better than we do…but few moths ago we were talking that United is not prepare to give to much money on wages for some players…and now we paying him 200 000 a week…I want RVP all the best…and i hope that he is good desicion….

  53. Pat says:

Don’t believe in Robin PR. He’s a snake and I’m not being bitter. There are photographs from January of him talking to City officials. Both City and Juve backed out. Juve offered 195k/week but transfer fee was too high. City backed out b/c they haven’t sold anyone. United actually offered the highest wages at 225k/week. Thats a 71m package.

  54. DreadedRed says:

    Pat

You are an arsenal fan I presume? Who else would be bitter?

How do you get the figures that you quote so assuredly?

I’m going to take a pot shot here, and surmise that:
    - you are bitter
    - you are an arsenal fan
    - you have no inside knowledge
    - your figures are approximately what you’ve heard on twitter
    - you are guessing about city and Juve, or it’s also twitter twaddle
    - you are a lowdown creep, but nowhere near as beautiful, elegant or potent as a snake.

    Any thoughts?
