Van Persie – Our #20

A few weeks after Robin van Persie signed for Manchester United he revealed why he had chosen the #20 shirt.

“Well, I had the option of 20 or 21 and the reason I took this shirt is because we’re all here to be champions this year and that would mean a 20th league title for United. I would certainly like to be part of that, they have had an era of dominance already and I’d like to help them do it again.”

Fuck me how good was he last night ,when you see him that fired up and clinical makes you wonder if Madrid put something in the water.
My pet obsession at the mo,will Rooney stay or go,3-0 up Sir Alex was on the sidelines riding his ass, only player to be subbed

Lovely articles . btw , what is the criteria to publish a post match review.

  7. FletchTHEMAN says:

I wonder if Robin will keep the 20.
I don’t think he would want the 7. But I could see him getting the currently vacant #9.

Played like a champion last night. Someone came up with a beauty to describe the 3 goals.

    1st Goal: Won the League
2nd Goal: Goal of the Season
3rd Goal: Won the Golden Boot

Don’t think 2 or 3 are that clear cut. Plenty of fantastic goals, and still 4 games to play. Still remember how team selection nearly lost Berbatov the Golden boot last year. Hope it doesn’t do it this year for Robin.

  8. wayne says:

Fletch don’t see him changing mate now he’s had success with that number,a lot of footballers are superstitious he won’t want to jinx it

  9. Dave Malaysia says:

    Is this normal?

Maybe I’ve been supporting United long.

I am already worried about Sunday.

Cant stop thinking who shud play ,formation ,tactics.

That said ,thinking of revenge on rafa and chelski. Thats another worry.

  10. wayne says:

As some other lads mentioned make my season if Rent Boys miss out on CL.FSW rolled the dice and decided to play a stronger team against us and now it’s backfired because of the league loss to Southampton and being knocked out of the cup by City.I hope to fuck those 3 pts come back to haunt them.

  11. FletchTHEMAN says:

    Wayne, Ha cheers. Forget superstitious!

Show him a couple hours of Denis Law and Berbatov videos (toss in a few of Ruud van Nistelrooy as well).

    Hand him the #9,

Then lets see if the #20 shirt = #20 title trick works the same trick in the Champions league!
Only 6 to go to knock Real Madrid off their bleeding perch!

  12. Whiteside says:

I can’t see Chewy Luis scoring many more this season so I’d say he’s pretty safe.

  13. Joffrey Baratheon says:

@wayne: My gut feeling tells me that there is a high possibility Rooney will leave in the summer. We’ve had stories fabricated in the press countless times about a player of ours who is apparently on his way out and we all know deep down it’s bollocks. This time though looking from the outside I think there is something to these rumours. Ferguson and Rooney have said all the right things and been professional but it looked like to me even last night that Rooney looked a bit dejected though he put on a brave face at the end of the game. We will find out in the next few months anyway.

  14. lordrt says:

Was waiting for RvP to wakeup, and he did it in style, with the cannibal suarez sure to be banned (unless the FA love him), RvP can claim the golden boots yet again IF SAF plays him in the remaining games, ’cause from what I can sense, it will now be the turn for the likes of Nani, Cleverley, Welbeck… to lead the team for the remaining games, irrespective of the results.

  15. kanchelskis says:

Goetze to Bayern potentially good news. Don’t think we were ever interested, but fairly strong rumours that City were. One of their main transfer targets snapped up before the window’s even opened!

Here’s to another summer of frustration at the Etihad!

(Bayern to be fearsome in Europe next season though)

  16. kanchelskis says:

    @lordrt

RVP should be aiming for 30 as far as I’m concerned. If we play carefree, attacking football (and there’s no excuse not to now), there’s no reason he shouldn’t get 6 out of Arsenal, Chelsea, Swansea, WBA.

  17. wayne says:

went on a Gunner blog Arsenal Fans react to RVP’s title triumph, didn’t say i was a Red just posted a comment, blog has a thumbs up or down rating for each comment, mines being highlighted as spot on lol

  18. dannysoya LOVES USAIN BOLT says:

What a fantastic feeling waking up today. CHAMPIONS OF ENGLAND!!!!! HAHAHAHA!!!!

@kanchelskis I am not surprised. And yet you see all the stupid football hipsters saying that Bayern are run the right way. They grow players and don’t buy them. HA. they’ve spent more than 60 million pounds on TWO PLAYERS in the space of 9 months. But hey anyone that can take talent away from City is alright with me. I think it’s time for us to raid Dortmund for Gundogan. He is the answer to all our midfield worries. We have to get him. NOW is the time to discuss with him not when the window opens.

  19. medumtum says:

Hope Rooney does stay, although dont think he is the sole answer to our midfield problems, the lad has goals in him. This is a season to build off. Cant wait till the Emirates, no more challengers, its champions period.

  20. kk says:

Bayern have been good this season. We should emulate them because they are already improving their squad for the next season. I want 4 in a row and over.

  21. kanchelskis says:

    @dannysoya

Indeed. Same with Barca. The fact they’ve reared a few great players distracts from the huge sums they also spend. Eto’o plus E40m for Ibrahimovic?!

It’s Dortmund that are run ‘the right way’. It’s just a shame that that means selling your prize assets to your main rivals! I suppose parallels could be drawn with Arsenal (though they haven’t seriously competed for years, unlike Dortmund)

Don’t know a great deal about Gundogan. What kind of a midfielder is he?

Btw, saw a certain DANNYSOYA having a nice little rant at LFC on a Guardian ’10 talking points’ blog yesterday … you?

  22. dannysoya LOVES USAIN BOLT says:

Ha yes that was me kanchelskis. LOL.

  23. kanchelskis says:

    @dannysoya

Haha. Nice one. I’m ‘biggerridgers’ over there, if you ever fancy teaming up on some bitters or dippers!

  24. Andromeda says:

Two things will make this title even more sweeter
1.A Wigan victory at FA cup final against the bitters.
2.Chelsea’s failure to progress into champions league and we must make sure of this when they play us at oldtrafford.

  25. lordrt says:

@kanchelskis: I think SAF will relieve RvP of the ordeal to have to listen to the boos of the arsenal fans, but yes if he can score more while ending this season would be a great thing

I was actually surprised by our sole substitution of the game, hints more like Rooney is indeed going out, unless already had a talk with the gaffer before the match on his playtime. Rumours on the french side are intensifying however about an eventual transfer to PSG, so far the only team which can accommodate him given his salary range, unless a twist happens

  26. kanchelskis says:

Let’s not lose sight of last night’s real hero.

    http://i.minus.com/iRQ1ePjsBf7KT.gif

The dude in the grey hoodie

  27. Joffrey Baratheon says:

@Kanchelskis: Hahaha he was at it most the game. We should all do that inside Old Trafford to rival City’s Poznan. That is far better!

  28. kanchelskis says:

    @Joffrey

Haha. Fuck ya Poznan. We’re “stirring the pot”

  29. samuel - united WE stand says:

Rooney seemingly cannot get substituted in games anymore without the dull predictable rumour mongers coming out with unsubstantial theories. Give it a break for once.

  30. wayne says:

thing is samuel think that’s 10 or 11 times this season Rooney has been substituted, don’t you find that high for a player up to RVP signing was considered our talisman and still rated number 1 or 2 by most fans.Don’t you find it odd that one of our best players was dropped for the biggest game of the season against Madrid, last night Sir Alex was riding Rooney’s ass in the second half when Utd were 3-0 up just before the substitution, unlike most managers Sir Alex doesn’t go to the technical area and start screaming at players very often especially with a big lead. It’s clear in those photo’s Sir Alex has his hand out and Rooney is ignoring him.Another thing Sir Alex very rarely goes public about the form of players unless it’s positive lately he’s made a lot of comments about Rooney.I’m not normally a rumor monger but i get the distinct feeling something isn’t right.Right after the first game when Nani was dropped from the squad i said something isn’t right you disagreed with me then but that’s the way it’s played out through the course of the season
There’s a difference between being a rumor monger and seeing signs something’s up,i hope things get sorted and Rooney stays i just feel at this point the relationship is strained.

  31. emmanuel amaechi says:

I tink we shuld give sir Alex feruson a very full suport 2 carry on his duty b/c he is a great maneger i have, ever seen. Congratulation sir on 20th premier league. We are d best in d whole world. Up utd.

  32. NBI Red Onion says:

Zaha to be given No 21.

  33. Stretfordend ryda says:

What number is taboo gonna wear when he comes back? And who’s gonna get the no.9??
