Van Persie: United fans are absolutely unbelievable

The atmosphere at Old Trafford during United’s 1-0 victory over Arsenal, particularly in the second half when the team were really hanging on, was fantastic. There has been a distinct improvement in the noise made by the home fans so far this season, particularly in those big games against Liverpool and Arsenal today, with the crowd seemingly not taking for granted their team’s ability to win. Under new manager David Moyes, the fans have taken on a bigger role in supporting the team.

Robin van Persie, who scored the only goal of the game, has sung the praises of the fans.

“The fans were incredible, they really lifted us and were the twelfth man. Since I’ve been here, they have been absolutely unbelievable, so thanks again to them.”

A big result — let’s kick on now.

  2. onlydale says:

I agree. The fans were magnificent. Let’s keep it up! Support your club.

  3. Precious says:

    Nice result we’ve just started

  4. Precious says:

But can we really win the league

  5. Sushi says:

This is why a little slump in form isn’t all together a bad thing. It separates the bandwagon cunts from the committed. Too many ppl at Old Trafford were just fucking passive members watching the game just to make a day out of it. Good to see a proper atmosphere back at OT

  6. DreadedRed says:

    Thank you match-going Reds!

    Seriously, thank you.

  7. Tommy says:

I agree mate as a season ticket holder the atmosphere can be dead at times and that’s being polite but its easy to get up for a game against the team whos top, If we were playing Hull at home next week the atmosphere would be dead!

  8. NYDUDE says:

The sound from the from OT today was fantastic- were there any prawn sandwich eating fans in attendance?

  9. David Lee Malaysia says:

agree with sushi. hope not many ppl bothered to eat seafood sandwiches while supporting the team. spare a thought to those genuine fans around the world who would do anything to win a ticket and cheer the team on the pitch

  10. DreadedRed says:

I live by the sea, and prawns is something we eat. You cook them, take the shells off, and put them in your mouth. There is no way that bread is going to be what you’re thinking of adding to the meal.

I can only presume that Roy was dreaming.

  11. DreadedRed says:

David Lee – don’t mention seafood to Sushi, aye? Bit close to home…

  12. VivaUnited says:

Unfortunate season ticket holder in the fergie stand this year atmosphere dead there! definitely going back to stretford end next season may not be best view but atmosphere always good at Stretford end.

  13. VivaUnited says:

If you stand up or chant for united all the united fans in the fergie end are terrible.

  14. FletchTHEMAN says:

Hope a bit of credit goes to the efforts to increase the atmosphere.

A load of people have been working their socks off to add a singing section and reduce the influence of the away end.

Add to that the always brilliant contribution of the Stretford end.

I am sure even the turban crowd were on their feet screaming today.

Top way to send us into the Intl break.

Thoughts with Nemanja spending the evening in hospital though. Glad we had Jones on our side to return the favor ;)

    dats why we are united

  17. newton says:

I always felt its good Moyes found it tough in the beginning rather than later. If we had some success and faltered middle of the season, I’m not sure how David moyes would have reacted. The fact that he found it tough early is good. Now he probably has a better idea of how to handle it. He’s type to learn quickly. We’re just warming up.

  18. John jude says:

Wow! I think moyes is getting his feet firm

  19. mich says:

I’m not just happy that we won arsenal, I’m also happy that we are topping city, we are 1 point below chelsea and we are currently improving day by day… I’m even surprise at the changes moyes makes recently, he makes superb changes and I’m happy for him

  20. Andromeda says:

David Moyes is gradually learning about his players and the potential best was incredibly a huge performance from the lads and the spirit was sky high.for me there was more than a single MOTM but personally phil jones was absolutely terrific .Valencia, smalling, Rooney and Rvp were all to Moyes for the team selection and the substitutions were absolutely spot on.Giggs and Fellaini were came in time and were both amazing.furthermore handling Vida’s incident and shifting in position was simply was a touch of genius.

  21. barnet kabale-uganda says:

I think, moyes made a good decision to keep roooooney at OT after he had failed to buy good players but still we need more players at OT

  22. yohanna sammy says:

jones, rooney, valencia, smalling nd rvp were all in an impressive nd fantastic form against wenger side.good one for them,up papa god up united.

  23. stewart says:

david moyes team selection was spot on!

cleverly or jones, jones played fantastic!

moyes please sell fellani and don’t buy khiedra!

  24. LexxytheRed says:

Great Win! I was absolutely elated. I drank myself to stupor…… Buying for my deflated gunner mates too…..

Jones MOTM, then Smalling and Rooney

  25. ChrisW says:

About 70% of the home crowd are season ticket holders so you really can’t blame the minority of “tourists” or glory hunters for the lack of atmosphere.
