Nemanja Vidic has revealed how proud he is to be named Manchester United captain, but insists he is working as hard for the team now as he always has done.
“I feel very proud,” said Vidic. “It came as a bit of a surprise but I am enjoying the role. You have to think about your responsibilities – your behaviour, the way you play, the way you train. I know that I need to set a good example on and off the pitch. In terms of my game I do not think anything has changed. I’ve always talked a lot on the pitch. You have to communicate as a defender and organise things whether you are captain or not. I tend not to think about it (the captaincy) when I’m playing. I am just focused on doing my best for the team as I have always done.”

I don’t clearly remember but Scott had a topic just as Vida got the captaincy. 90% of the posters thought he wasn’t the best candidate. I think he proved he is a worthy captain.
Good captain, happy with Vida as our captain. Much prefer it than seeing Giggsy one day, Rio the next etc.
@Costas well he is not in the top 3 of our choices because every fan expected Vidic to be more like a Incredible Hulk – cannot really talk but insanely strong.
I touted Vidic for capo back in the summer, seemed the natural choice. Not as vocal as Keano, but who is I hear you say. If Rio stayed fit, he’d be my choice, but Vidic is worthy at this time.

Yeah I had Rio as my preferred choice mate, but I think it was down to Vida being more likely to stay fit. Got to say tho Vida is doing a great job and I’m glad he’s got the armband!!

Still beleive Da Silvas will be wingers for Manutd and wud be interesting to see who our full backs will be.

Dave malaysia – it really annoys me when i hear fans like yourself claim rafael and fabio are wingers? fucking hell, the manager plays rafael in the right back and is developing great but yet your convinced he’ll be a winger? what a load of rubbish, united won’t be getting any new full backs in as we already have great young talented full backs at the club that will claim those position, hardly any quality complete full backs out there this days so i don’t see why the twins can’t stake there claim.
Samuel-united we stand : Annoyed? U get annoyed when someone derides a player for no reason or the team an so on. Not when its a difference of opinion. U need to set your psychological threshold higher otherwise u might get blood pressure and all that.
For recap: When Manutd first scouted the Da Silvas they were wingers. When they signed thier club stopped playing them ,so they just trained . Brazil national team at thier age group,the coach employed a very attacking system and used the Da silvas as wingbacks.
When they joined us Fergie tried them out as fullbacks,wingers and central midfield.
Fabio used to score for Brazil lots of goals ,that why they said as captain he was better than Rafael.
Now Rafael is doing well as as our rightback, I said previously he will do well against arses,using his pace to neutralise players like arshavin.
But when u play physical sides like chelski ,prefer wes with his height .power and strength.
So it will be interesting to see how Fergie will select the team this Sunday.
Long term he may want the kids as wingers maybe , so what?

I dont see any need for the Da Silvas to be wingers – Rafael has proved he is a very able defender against some of the ‘best’ in England/Europe. He had Ribery in his pocket until his inexperience showed and made Bale and Nasri non existent against us. Hes still young and time is on his side but wouldnt surpise me if he became the top RB in the world in a few short years.
I think that Vidic was a good choice by SAF for United Captain as Rio is injury prone and the arm band was being passed around a fair bit. Whether it has anything to do with the rumours over the Summer that United were looking to sell Rio or whether it was because of the rumours that Vidic was on the way out of United is anyones guess. Perhaps one of the reasons was to keep him at United by giving him a bit more responsibility? I know. Cynical aren’t I?! Ha.
I hope the rumours that Vidic is , like Wazza, after yet MORE loot. And that he is contemplating moving to Citeh cos they have offered to DOUBLE his wages, are not true then! Doubt it myself but what with Wazza AND Tevez doing it, whats to say he wont jump on the bandwaggon? What would SAF and the Glazers do then i wonder? Match Citehs offer or what?
