  1. Macheda IS GOD says:

Brilliant goal from diouf there On yer home debut :)

  2. Tony Starks says:

off topic… just wanted to say my favourite memory of today was seeing Carlos Tevez running around like a headless chicken for 90 minutes! cant wait till tuesday!

  3. Costas says:

What’s the deal with former Molde strikers scoring on their OT debut? ;)

I like how he showed his name afterwards. Forget about the previous owner of that shirt!

  4. Gotta hate tiny tears says:

poor nani had a chance today did nothing then on comes this new guy scores a 90th minute goal and then does his celebration. Ya gotta feel for the guy .http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pZBWwKMd1zA

  5. wazza10 says:

An OK performance by the boys today..Burnley tried to hit us on the break but i’m glad we contained them easily..I”m also glad to see berba and rooney on the scoresheet..
bring on Man city!!and make mancini and tecez eat their words

  6. King Eric says:

gotta hate – To be fair mate I thought Nani did ok today. At least he beats players.

Just shows you all the attacking talent the fascists have and they can’t buy at goal at the minute . Don’t think Ronnie has scored in 4 or 5.

  7. Superhans says:

i think Nani did ok also today.

  8. Tony Starks says:

look at Owen when celebrating the Diouf goal – i think inside he wishes he could have got that chance!

  9. rooney the new king says:

well its good the player scores on his debut but annoyed chelsea scored 7 shoots up their GD

  10. Kenyan-Canadian Reds says:

Diouf first African player to shine on Manchester shirt

  11. Scott the Red says:

Rooney the new king – not really. They had an improve goal difference of +5 from their game, but we scored 3, so really they have just improved their goal difference +2 compared to us.

  12. Superhans says:

Manucho is scoring freely for angola at the anc. any thoughts from you guys if we should have kept him for longer ?

  13. Kevin says:

I also thought Nani played ok. He beat defenders, got crosses in, and had some chances. He was not brilliant but it helps my confidence in him and hopefully will raise his. I think he has the talent but he feels so much pressure (most of which he creates himself) to perform. I think he can go forward from here but he needs minutes which I think he can get with City and Hull again he should get time and for me he is our second best option for the left mid-field slot. We should think about resting Giggs for Arsenal and maybe this will make Nani an option in the squad.

Glad to see Diouf score in his debut and hope he will continue forward. Heis so athletic and just needs to connect the dots to be a special player.

  14. rooney the new king says:

Scott the Red – oh right I had not looked at the table but its a little worrying they now seem to be scoring goals still for me united need a striker.

  15. Drew Vader says:

KE — Agreed, it was first match in ages and I thought Nani did fine, and if given the chance I would play him over Park/Obertan every single time. Let him rotate with Giggsy and tough luck to the other two

  16. Corea says:

Park is ahead of Nani for my liking. But Nani has to play in the right wing.

  17. The HZA says:

I thought Nani did okay as well too. I thought there was a marked difference to his decision making today (not 100%, but far better than before) and he was crossing instead of shooting waywardly a lot more today.

MOST of his crosses hit a united head, and when the headers went off target the commentators blamed his crosses… but when valencias crosses were mis-headed by our boys the commentators blamed the pressure on the player. I thought that was a bit biased.

Nani had a few good shots on target, crossed decently, could have had a BETTER game no doubt, but did all right. Would have loved for his bicycle kick to go in though!! Based on Park’s past few performances and Obertan’s slow introduction to the fold, I think Nani should be given a decent shout. Make it his last chance, if he still flatters to deceive or frustrates, kick him out in the summer.

The boy has skill, adds some flair to our lineup, and sometimes puts a gloss on what has been toothless attacking for the past few matches from united.

Frustrating? Yes. Talented? Definitely. Needs a better footballing brain? Definitely. Still has a chance to improve? I think so. 14 games out should have rattled him a bit, so good luck to the lad. We have to always wish our players the best :)

  18. Tony Starks says:

@Superhans.. no regrets at all over Manucho, clearly he’s not United class and never will be. Big difference between Premiership defenders and CAF cup defenders…

re: Nani.. when you look at Nani you can see he has more skill with his eyes closed than the other wide players in the squad – if only he wasn’t so frustrating!

  19. King Eric says:

Oh dear. It would appear that another player has “refused” the Massivee Club’s advances in favour of us or Arsenal. Looked a great player against United.

    http://goal.com/en/news/553/russia/2010/01/16/1747559/cska-moscow-star-milos-krasic-tells-manchester-city-hell-only-go-

Expecting a rentboy wankfest now. Why the fuck does every team treat United like their cup final but lay down like dogs for other teams? Well I suppose its because we are Manchester United.

As for Diouf, was really pleased for the lad today. Looks like he may enjoy OT. He certainly wasn’t fazed. Was reading United we stand prior to the game and it seems that not only Fergie is impressed. It would appear that the lads are as well. One of them said he looks a great player and isn’t afraid to “have a ping”. They go on to say that he is a real character on the training ground and is always smiling like Dwight Yorke.

Rtnk – Alright pal. Don’t think we need a striker at all. Rooney, Berbatov, Owen, Diouf, Macheda, Wellbeck not to mention in the next year or two the likes of Keane and King.

  20. Costas says:

    @King Eric

Didn’t know we had a Keane in our ranks again. ;)

Speaking of Sunderland, I still can’t believe it. In the past Brucey has done quite well at the Bridge. He even helped put us in pole position in 2008 when Wigan got a draw with the Heskey goal. Sunderland are going through a bad spell at the monent and Chelsea were extremely lucky to play them now. The next game at home won’t be as easy for Chelsea. This time they will play an in form team.

  22. Besher says:

I liked keane a lot every time i saw him play his finishing is very good and he can always play beautiful passes i guess he can be pretty good for us . We moght need a striker now but in the future no . And dioufe might be the answer now

  23. stretford972 says:

re nani- he did ok? Have we watched the same game? He was fuckin shite as always, the player who shone today was eagles, should get him back, gave whoever he played against a nightmare, includin the best left back in the world. And re manucho, no, because his technique wasn’t good enough. Diouf lookin promisin, first touch and movement good, very quick

  24. five says:

Nani is much better then Eagles, he’s been disapointing this season but remember the double winning season? Nani played like only Eagles could dream of.

Scored against all the big 4, stepped up to convert the 5th penalty in Moscow after watching the player hes supposed to become miss and scored some brilliant goals

Talent doesnt dissapear overnight…its in there somewhere and with a consistent run I still believe Nani can get it right

  25. King Eric says:

stretford972 – I have been very critical of Nani but yeah I thought he played ok today. Nowt great but he did ok to say he ain’t featured for 2 months. At least he tried to beat a man and got a few decent crosses in. Whats more he can actually take a corner kick. Agree with you on Diouf though pal.

Costas – Yeah young William Keane mate. He is scoring for fun in the academy and has impressed me. A very intelligent player. As I have said before he reminds me of a young Teddy. Who is the rentboys next league game and when please? Have they got that game in hand mid week? They have fa cup next weekend don’t they. I am sure you will provide me with answers. Right off to watch MOTD and have a laugh at “This is Anfield” then I will pop back on.

  26. King Eric says:

Off topic – I see posh public eton boy cunt Piers Morgan the self proclaimed “gooner” is even jumping on the Berbatov bandwagon. What a cunt. Think he has more goals than Arsenal’s strikers this season pal.

On the Campbell topic love how he says that he isn’t “one of them” yet says that if they buy Henry the title is theirs. So Sol isn’t one of you you toff cunt but you are happy to buy the smug, egotistical, Mr Arsenal Henry even though he did the dirty on you as well? Stick to the fucking rugger Piers old chum.

  27. Bebeto says:

City struggle when they come up against a competent team. I’m shocked.

Seriously, being talked up as title contenders after beating Stoke, Wolves and Blackburn? The people churning such tripe out don’t know their asses from their elbows.

  28. Costas says:

    @King Eric

Chelsea have their FA cup game next Saturday, and the home game I was talking about is against Brum on Wednesday the 27th. They go to Burnley 3 days later. And 3 days after that, on Tuesday the 2nd of February, it’s their postponed game at Hull. And on Sunday the 7th they entertain the gooners.

These next 4 games is our chance to claw back to the top. They can drop 4 points and hopefully we will capitalise. In that time period we have Hull at home, Arsenal at the Emirates and Portsmouth at OT.

  29. Costas says:

Oh and I forgot. 3 days after playing against Arsenal, Chelsea go to Goodison.

  30. King Eric says:

Costas – Cheers mate! OOhh there are some tasty games there for the Chav’s.

Bebeto – Exactly pal. Been saying all along it is just another false dawn. What the fuck is Mancini gonna bring to the table? Just a suave , smug Richard Madely lookalike who only yesterday said he has no problems giving his players a glass or so of wine 2 or 3 hours before kick off. I honestly think Leslie Hughes could have done a better job. Feeling much more confident now for Tuesday.

  31. King Eric says:

Costas – You are a stat man. Please tell me, out of interest, of all the game s where we have failed to score in how many has Berbatov started? He really did come up trumps today. I thought we were gonna struggle to score today till……….. Also had a hand in Rooneys goal. Was missed at Brum last week.

  32. Costas says:

    @King Eric

You are welocme. Hopefully Chelsea will drop more than 4 points over those 5 games, because we have trips to the Emirates, Goodison and Villa Park over the next month. It’s a tough period for both clubs. February will also see Chelsea go to Wolves and host City. Maybe they could stumble in one of the two.

About Berbatov. This season we haven’t scored in 7 games. Our 7 defeats. Berbatov has started two of them. The Liverpool and Leeds games. I also felt that he was going to break the deadlock today. And his move just before the goal where he hit the post, definitely deserved a goal. Fergie said that he felt his knee again. I hope they won’t reconsider the operation.

  33. Bebeto says:

Don’t mention Berbatov’s positive influence out loud. It doesn’t conform to the collective pessimism about having spent £30 million on him.

  34. rooney the new king says:

Costas – before we hope chelsea drop points united got to start to go on a run themselves. and still I am not convinced with berbatov week in week out he just does not do it enough, I would move him on this summer and buy someone like aguero who would be worth the money, add the fact he has the hardworking attributes of tevez but with better finishing and class of rooney. rooney and aguero patnership is a mouth watering prospect and I could careless where he is from add the fact we would play 2 striker every week.

  35. Costas says:

What I will say about Berbatov is this. That in the current structure of the United team, he is more of an asset than a burden and hopefully he won’t operate and we won’t have to realise that through his absence. Not trying to start any debates about his price tag or anything else. I think history will be a judge of that.

    @rooney the new king

I am trying to keep a cool head about us too. After the Hull game, we have some tough away games ourselves. The team will have to perform a hell of a lot better than they did today. But I am hopeful that with VDS and Vida’s return, the team will become defensively solid again.

  36. Mozza79 says:

rooney the new king how about looking at fact instead of talking out your arse? Berbatov has been doing very well recently it’s when he’s out when we suffer. Our record when Berbatov starts in the league: P13 W11 D1 L1, our record without him P9 W4 D1 L4. Never let facts get in the way of a good moan though eh? Our problems arise when Berbatov is injured and Fergie doesn’t like to play Owen up front with Rooney so we go 4-5-1 with the likes of Park and we’re rubbish.

  37. rooney the new king says:

Mozza79 – lets be frank berbatov has just been poor, when it matters most he goes missing. his movement is very static and tactically he not very flexible he does it in drips and drabs, he shows it in moments not week in week out. yes he scored today but when he is behind on tevez on the number of goals scored that puts into perspective just how poor berbatov has been. if he wants to show he is the man to play week in week out at united he has got to do it every week, and start playing and getting 20 to 22 goals every season not about 11 to 14 goals.

  38. Shabadu84 says:

Nani was good today. Only had one head-smack moment when he swung and missed at one from the top of the box. Considering it was his first match in, what, 2 months – I thought it was very encouraging. The best part was that he did not make his usual mistakes of trying to do too much or making piss poor decisions. It didn’t all come off but very rarely was I thinking “oh for fuck’s sake, Nani!” which is a huge improvement.

  41. Kenyan-Canadian Reds says:

Manchester United’s January arrival Mame Biram Diouf says he’s learning every day training with the club’s stars.

Diouf was thrilled to score on his home debut for Manchester United in their 3-0 win over Burnley.

And he told MUTV: “I’m sure I can learn [by playing alongside Wayne Rooney, Michael Owen and Dimitar Berbatov].

“They are top players, some of the best in the world. They’ve done so much in football and in this league so I’m going to try and learn a lot.”

  42. Jesmonta says:

Not a bad performance today. Noticed :
Van Der sar offered security at the back . When Defenders were caught napping on a few occasions,he was always alert.
Neville and Brown were poor at times and sometimes headless.
    Evra was good as usual.
Evans did some good runs from the back.
Nani showed little improvement. Still we expect more from him.
    Berbatov was the usual self….Lazy.
Carrick was nowhere, his replacement ..Anderson did much better.
Valencia….Star man. If we profited from all his crosses the result would have been more flattering.
Scholes…OK .Considering he was injured at times.
Rooney…..settled by time. Diuof did ok …seems a good prospect but still early to say.

  43. Jish Inc. says:

The player who really made me mad today was Rooney. He was doing a Tevez, running around aimlessly with the worst first touch on a few crucial occasions. The guy needs to be benched for a few games to realize there are other strikers at the club. Hated his attitude. What i liked about Diouf is that he played like a striker should. Always looking to get in behind and between defenders. One thing I’ve realised is that Berba is better when played in front of Rooney, not the other way around. Hope fergie sees this soon. Otherwise crappy performance by everybody save for Evra and Valencia as always. What we need is more penetration upfront. Without that teams get confidence to attack our defence which looks particularly vulnerable. Neville has to go. Really has to go!! Give the guy a coaching job or something if they want his influence and experience. Rafael needs games to develop and is already looking like the real deal. Whats the problem with Vidic. We miss our first choice centre back pairing. These guys give the whole team a sense of calm

  44. hurr says:

Nani did good today. He put in good crosses and is not afraid to have a crack at the goal which is what our attacking players are lacking lately. They’re too elaborate ala Arsenal, passing around too much like it’s going out of style.
I agree that Rooney is the most frustrating player recently. He’s trying to do everything himself and it’s not working too good for him.

  45. Muggaz says:

King Eric, you make me laugh so much… Piers is a massive douchebag.

  46. King Eric says:

Muggaz – Cheers mate, I fucking despise him.

Jesmonta – What? Berbatov was “lazy” . What the fuck . He was playing with an injury but still broke the deadlock and created the second. What do people really want? Bizarre.

  47. King Eric says:

Jish – Rooney should be “benched for a few game”. Are you serious? Again bizarre.

  48. Jesmonta says:

King Eric – If sir Alex included him in the team means he was fit to play. Lazy because his work rate was slow as usual, if he lose the ball that`s it ,he never fight back for it. True that he broke the deadlock but wasted other simpler chances before that. What we want is more committed players like Evra and Rooney.

  49. Sunny says:

Just read that Mame’s buddy says he used to be a Chelsea supporter… So a reverse Essien. :-)

Finally we have a tall strong fast striker that can jump high. He did the goal celebration flip with a straight body plus he is 6 foot 2.

  50. King Eric says:

Jesmonta – Of course he isn’t 100% fit . He kept going off periodically to get his knee sprayed. Palying with that injury shows commitment to me pal. Anyway the Berba issue is split down the middle so I ain’t getting involved now.

  51. hurr says:

    @King Eric

Don’t bother man. Berba and Nani haters will continue to slag them no matter what they contribute to the team.

  52. denton davey says:

Jish @ 10:47: “What i liked about Diouf is that he played like a striker should. Always looking to get in behind and between defenders.”

    Right on, m8 !

  53. denton davey says:

hurr @ 12:23: “Nani did good today. He put in good crosses and is not afraid to have a crack at the goal which is what our attacking players are lacking lately.”

I agree – he didn’t get everything to work but he was direct and dangerous. Crossed with his left foot, too. Nani links best with Evra – Patrice provides the width and Nani shunts into the inside-left channel. They’re both fast enough to recover in most situations, too.

Nani has got terrific talent – the trick for the management team is to figure out how to let it flow. They’ve done this with Valencia by leaving him alone, giving him time and confidence to grow into his role; now they need to show the same patience with Nani. I wonder if SAF has been as critical of Nani as the punters who seemingly want to draw and quarter the guy because he isn’t CR ?

I don’t doubt that Nani will continue to “frustrate” but the reality is that ALL attacking players get things right only a fraction of the time. Being an attacking success for UTD requires incredible skill, strength, speed, and confidence. Let’s not forget that they are playing against defenders who are among the best in the world, every game; and that those defenders are usually playing in stacked-defences.

  54. denton davey says:

Jesmonta @ 9:17: “Valencia….Star man. If we profited from all his crosses the result would have been more flattering.”

I disagree, in part, with your assessment. Valencia found himself in, quite literally, acres of space. His crossing wasn’t great but he was aggressive and drove into the box. He’s still somewhat dazed-and-confused at the decisive moment but, overall, his play was positive. Mostly, though, the problem for him was a lack of movement in the box from BOTH Rooney AND Berbatov, neither of whom provided Valencia with moving targets in dangerous positions.

On a more general note: Valencia has been a very good addition to the squad – I wonder how much better he would play with an excellent right back playing behind him in the way the Evra makes all the left wingers look better. That consideration gives SAF a strong reason to consider playing Rafael Da Silva more often since he is a demon at attacking – although Rafael – and Fabio – are still naive defenders.

  55. King Eric says:

denton – Evening mate. Yeah Valencia would benefit from Rafael at right back as he did against Wigan. They were both superb that night with Rafa not only pinging crosses in but hitting the onion bag as well. I have been impressed with Valencia and think he has the talent to really make it at United. He has settled in very quickly really and that is largely to do with like you say him being given a consistent run and being left to get on with it. He has areas he can improve on and believe he will. Which brings me on to Nani. I have to admit as well you know I have been critical of him recently. HOWEVER I thought he had a decent enough game yesterday and most importantly he was a DANGER. After watching the likes of Obertan and Park struggle on the left I was actually hoping he would be given a run as did quite alot of fans I think . It was quite a pleasant surprise to see him start yesterday. I actually hope Fergie gives him an extended run to prove himself now. One thing I will say about the lad is when they were warming up he clapped all the fans in each stand which I have to say a number of players never do.

  56. emonod says:

@King Eric, what has Obertan been like recently? has it just been a case of not getting enough play time or just playing bad on the day? Also was he at the Leeds game? I didn’t bother to read the report, it was too painful!

@Costas we go to the Arse at the end of the month, right? I’m just concerned about them being 2 points off us is all.

  57. styy says:

How the hell can you lot say Berbatov was poor vs. Burnley?

He scored one, set up the second goal where Rooney got to score a sitter after Jensen saved Berbatov’s shot?

Nice game from Berbatov, was unlucky not to score 2, maybe you should pick some other player to slag, and why would you want to slag players when we go and pick 3pts after winning 3-0.

    Dont understand..

  58. King Eric says:

emonod – Yeah he has been ok mate but nothing more. He needs to build up as I haven’t seen him win one tackle yet as he seems to always back out of 50/50 balls. Still very raw.

  59. niklas89 says:

I think despite the general poor showing against Burnley there were positives to take forward, Berbatov had a good game, hopefully the goal will give him some additional confidence, Valencia was good, but only because Burnley didnt have the intelligence to man mark him. Nani was on and off all game, if he was consistant to the ability we all know he has then he could be a great player for us. We were however shocking in defence, Neville should not be playing, I may get people who disagree but he just is not good enough for the prem anymore, I also felt that the other three in defence went missing all too often, Burnley should not have any chances at Old Trafford never mind 3-4 top goalscoring opportunities. If we play like that at the Emirates we could ship a few goals.
