Sharp reactions from a gifted player…..shame the rest didn’t play as well

  2. manu4life says:

To accomodate this lasy player and to hide from the fact that we wasted 30+mill. on him we changed our formation and lost badly. Even against lesser team at home we should play 451. Berbatov can play for the researv.

  3. JD says:

actually I would go for 4-5-1 with berba up front and rooney rested. rest of your comment is awful.

  4. RED SAM says:

    Shitty’s game is just boring

  5. RED SAM says:

Voronin is rooney compared to maxi rodriguez :)

  6. manu4life says:

    JD
sorry for that but it is FACT. Two seasons ago when he was linked with us i was not impressed. I watched many spurs games that season and he was awfull. Yes he was good in his first season with them but i knew back then he would not do well for us. He is not hard working, no passion no good at scoring goals as well. He can not play for top team like united. he should pack his bag.

  7. ashhotjet90 says:

We just cannot accomodate Berbat against teams with a pumped up midfield . He should only start games at home where half of the teams are defeated before the starting whistle.

  8. Fred says:

I wonder if we’ll make a move for Rodwell now? Fergie has a thing for players who play well against United (Cantona, Blomqvist, Di Canio, Ronaldo, Benzema to name a few.) Unfortunately, that goal just added another £10m to his value. We’ll probably be quoted £20m (not Glazer “value”) and then watch as City sign him instead.

  9. RED SAM says:

    @ fred

it pains me to death that suddenly city can outbid us on a player

  10. manu4life says:

Is Rodwell that good of 20mill? i watched his three or four games but i did not say wow he should play for united. may be he would develop well with us.

  11. DEVILisRED says:

watching bitter vs dipper. fucked, not sure who to root for in this game. fucking hate both. but for 4th place, if it’s juz down to this bloody two, i probably go for ê dipper.
spurs & villa better buck up!

  12. PAUL Parker says:

I guess the Berbatov Debate is continuing over here then?

I agree with “ashhotjet90″ – we unfortunately cannot afford to accommodate Berbatov in a 4-4-2 against stronger teams. We cant risk it. We need that extra midfielder in a 4-5-1 more then we need a 4-4-2 with Berbatov. BUT THATS NOT TO SAY BERBATOV SHOULDN’T PLAY, LETS JUST PLAY HIM IN A 4-5-1 WHEN WE WANT TO REST ROONEY. But whatever we do, until our 1st choice defence is back, we need an extra midfielder to protect our 2nd choice Defence. So for me, 4-5-1 all day, and I hope we never see 4-4-2 again until next season when we can sort ourselves out. This season was always going to be hard, so if playing with 4-5-1 is ugly or whatever, so be it, I’d rather win our NINETEENTH / FOURTH CONSEQUTIVE TITLE playing ugly then not win it at all. We should be playing to win, not playing to look pretty, thats why Arsenal fuck up. Lets crowd out the midfield with 5 players and trust our lone striker and wingers to get the job done. It worked against Arsenal, we dominated Chelsea at the bridge with it, and we out played Milan with it. LONG LIVE 4-5-1 THIS SEASON !!!!

    How about now?

  15. READ CAREFULLY WHAT I says:

Berbatov is a very talented player.
iBut Is he consistently talented ?
Has he got talent plus that X factor you need to be United quality?

I am an unashamed fan of Berbatov – I like the way it is obvious he desperately wants to prove himself to the fans, the way he behaves off the field and definitely some of his sublime touches and tricks.
However, by the end of the season we will all know if there was “something” missing (or not).
I think it is easy to understand the critics and equally easy to understand those of us who are his fans.
What is yet to be decided is who is right and who is wrong. It is still too early to say – but only by about 15 games or so. By that time we have to look at his and our record with him in the squad.
I still have this feeling that Berba will score a very, very important goal for us. A bit like Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

That is all it would take and everyone would love him.

    Or not.

  16. Ando08 says:

Arguably the best player on the pitchin red that day. the difference between the first touch Berbatov displayed compared to Rooneys yesterday just shows how gifted Berba is. For the goal he showed the magical touch again with a sharp reaction with no backlift.

  17. READ CAREFULLY WHAT I says:

One more point – it only took Nani three games to change his world.

  18. JD says:

4-4-2 requires a really energetic midfield with good movement and passing, freshs pair of legs. Fletch Carrick were never options for the defenders to pass forward to, it was game Ando should of played along with Fletch to be honest. In a 4-4-2 they almost cover as much ground as a 4-5-1 midfield

  19. aig alex is god says:

the refreeing standards are really going down both in Europe and in England. Jermain Defoe scoring an offside goal and the refree allowing the goal to stand. Possibly time for video technology. All that comes after the midweek controversies in the European games

  20. Altonian says:

Some serious dribble on here today.

Berbatov has scored in each of his last 5 games. He was our best player yesterday yet still get’s criticised, just because the rest of the team were wank people still feel the need to blame him.

Our main problem yesterday was our defence, our midfield was fairly shite as well. I wish Neville would just retire, he simply isn’t good enough anymore. Both Brown and Evans (especially) had poor games, Evra wasn’t up to his usual standards but still did ok. Valencia’s crossing was awful, too many times he’d get in a good position and just waste it. Carrick / Fletcher didn’t have much impact on the game, tiredness was probably a factor but we are still missing that creative spark in the middle so badly. Park was his usual self, fairly shit and has little to offer. Rooney was poor, his touch was bad, just a general off day but we can’t expect him to deliver every single match. It’s the sort of game when we needed someone else to step up, I think Berba did to an extent, with the goal and what would of been an assist for Rooney had his touch not been shit, but simple matter is what was behind Berba was simply awful.

  21. GoatinaUnitedShirt says:

I wish people would get off Berbas back, hes a player with class and gives us another option. It takes all sorts of players to break down the opposition and yesterdays performance was down to fatigue rather than Berbatovs play which was pretty good at times.
Berbatov is a thinking mans footballer a good analogy is a Guiness shite. Slow and at sometimes painfull but when you look back at the end result its a fucking masterpiece. Rooney is younger, he is a wank, plenty of effort and sweat and an exlosive finish.

    P.S Yes I’ve been drinking.

  22. GoatinaUnitedShirt says:

What Im trying to say is at the end its pure elation. Like Altonian said hes scored in each of his 5 last games.

  23. aig alex is god says:

    @GoatinaUnitedShirt

Very correct. Shame some fans are making ridiculous comments like we should not have played 4-4-2 and things Berbatov slows us down when he clearly was our best player by some distance.Looks like some people cant sleep well until they slag berba.

Also had Rooney scored from the through ball he received yesterday and we would have won, the same fans would have said good words about Berbatov

  24. Corea says:

Berbatov was really determined and really our best player. I want him to do well because he is one of these players who makes you love football.

  25. arijc says:

I switched over to the anti Berba camp some time back, but I think its unfair to criticize his performance yesterday. I don’t buy the argument about him being the “thinking man’s footballer”, but I agree he does present a different option. Whether that option works is to be judged at a later date.
On a different topic, watching Schalke play and Neuer again looks really impressive. I know Edwin is reported to have agreed to extend his contract by one year, but unless Ben Amos or Ron Zieler are being groomed to take over eventually, I think this guy can be the long term solution.

  26. Doghouse says:

I think the Everton game was a clear example of how good Berbatov is. He gets the ball at his feet, reacts superbly and buries an unstoppable shot. A similar situation occurred twice for Everton, their players fluffed the chances and we didn’t go home 5-1 losers.

To look at a dismal team performance and to pick the only player who actually took a chance in the match for criticism is harsh bordering on the insane. What the fuck has Berbatov got to do to prove himself?

  27. King Eric says:

    manu4life – Piss off.

  28. Dimitar Berbatov is King says:

If Berbatov’s performance cannot satisfy the critics, I wonder what will, a sudden 30 goal haul? Be honest, some of you guys just want your fantasy football and are just refusing to believe in our player. If he scores a goal, you want him to score 2. That’s just unfair.

I believe in Berbatov’s ability and if anything, Everton are worthy winners.

I rate Arteta, Gosling and Rodwell…and Everton’s just unlucky to have so many players out in the first half of the season or they might be the ones up in 4th this season, and not the team chock full of wannabe superstars and certainly not their neighbours.

  29. Marq says:

Evans was bullied by Saha left right up and down and our defence was rightfully the cause of our downfall yesterday, Valencia & Neville simply let Pienaar go and put in the cross for the 2nd goal, how annoyed was I when I saw the replay of the look on Neville when he saw Pienaar went past. The 3rd goal, Rodwell simply wrong footed Evans and put in the shot. First goal was a good goal by Everton, but imo, Brown shld have got closer to his man, not turn his back

To blame Berbatov for this lost, is absurb. He was everything good about our attack for this game, everyone else looked like they’d rather be in bed

  30. Wazzatov says:

@Manu4life – it seems you are one a no of those who will slag Berba no matter what he does. He was our best player yesterday and infact our other players were shite mainly defense. Stop talking out of your ass for fucksake.

  31. GoatinaUnitedShirt says:

    @Marq

Good point mate about Evans being bullied by Saha, I mean Saha is a good player you know, he was on our books. An off day thats all against a very good team. Everton isn’t like the Dippers, minus two superstars and they’re fecking Barnsley, Everton play like a team, they play a particular way.

During the game I remember Berbatov passing beautifully through to Rooney, he drags defenders away like Teddy used to, he even got a corner out of nothing with a dainty flick. I wish people would look at how Berba plays, study him throughout a match then come up with a synopsis of how he played instead of relying on fantasy football stat sheets.

  32. Fze123 says:

After reading some of the comments here I now wish I didn’t click on this topic, otherwise I wouldn’t have had to read ‘Berbatov should play in the reserves’. Heh…Same old, same old.

  33. zappa says:

@king eric, agree with united for life, Berbatov, although a quality player does not cut it with the team and merely slows us down all the time. sadly he’s become another Veron..

  34. GoatinaUnitedShirt says:

    @zappa

Like your name sake, my good friend, are you after making those comments going to deny touching the waci baci.
Berbatov doesn’t go at break neck speed but nor did Cantona and nor did Sheringham and funily enough Rooneys goal against Milan where he got in between the two centre backs wasn’t at break neck pace. There is different ways of doing the same thing.
As for Veron he called himself the little witch (seriously suspect), had a shaven head to look hard, was known as a tough nut in Serie A. He was a promising player who completely bottled it against the English midfielders. He didn’t tackle once in his entire OT career and only once when playing for Chelsea.

  35. zappa says:

@goatinaunitedshirt – and your point is?

  36. GoatinaUnitedShirt says:

you compared Berbatovs effectiveness with Veron. Berbatovs ways of doing things are different but 5 goals in his last 5 games is ok. Veron, a midfielder unable to tackle is not in the same league. for fuck sake Djemba Djemba was more effective than Veron.

  37. GoatinaUnitedShirt says:

and if you dont think 5 goals in 5 isnt United quality what the fuck is.

  38. zappa says:

Fair comment GIAUS. Just thought i’d have my penny’sworth! By the way FZ didn’t do any drugs. thanks for the post..

  39. Xyth says:

It is a shame that we wasted a good goal and decent start. If only our defence held for the next 10-15 minutes we would have lost the game. Until they scored Everton was not really threatening. Even after that our defence created most of their chances.

  40. PAUL Parker says:

I dont’t think Berbatov has become another Veron. I just think for this season he should expect to keep our bench warm during major games. If that means he leaves to play more first team football, I’d understand his reasons, he’s not getting any younger. But if he stays, I think his third year here will be the year he actually hits top form. Next season our youngsters will all be better players, some better then others, but we’ll still be bolstered in all positions. Plus we shouldn’t have the same injury problems we’re having now. So next season we’ll be strong enough to accomodate Berbatov along side Rooney on a regular basis in a 4-4-2. Nobody more then me wants to see Berbatov “accommodated” at our club, trust me. Personally I also want to see a replacement for Tevez, meaning a “third striker” in a 4-3-3. Benzema springs to mind. Then we’ll have a new Trinity, and that formation for me Gentlemen is our most formidable. Ideally next season the 4-5-1 we’re playing now will only be used in important games away from home. Week in week out should be 4-3-3. But whatever formation we choose, we will have a bigger, stronger squad next year so Berbatov will get his best chance EVER, and that of course is if he’s still here. I don’t think we paid 30 odd million for nothing. But for now? He has to be sacrificed for the good of the team. Sorry folks. Thats why he’s sat out all the big games since Liverpool, our team isn’t strong enough at the moment to have a second striker, never mind a third.

  41. PAUL Parker says:

    King Eric Said,February 21st, 2010 @18:45
Paul Parker – Hello mate. I knew you would think that is what I meant regarding the formation and Berba but I didn’t. What I meant was IF our midfield were all playing at the top of their game then we could go 4-4-2 in certain games. The fact we lost yesterday has nowt to do with Berbatov but many different aspects. The midfield being piss poor yesterday being one of those factors.

    ____________

I now understand your original point. Your blaming the Everton game on the poor form of our “first choice” midfield in a 4-4-2. I understand now, and I agree, but my original point, I’ve already acknowledged Giggs and Nani are both out, and unfortunately the current form of our midfield players isn’t 100%. I’ve acknowledged that midfield problem, which is why for the vital Everton game I thought we shouldn’t have risked a 4 man midfield, instead I thought we should have simply continued doing what we’ve BEEN DOING which is just add an extra man in a 4-5-1 – and thats why I mentioned Berbatov in the first place, not because of his form or his worth to the team, but because of the cost of including him. Including Berbatov means losing that extra midfielder. He’s a great player, but considering the form of our midfield and acknowledging our back four is no where near first choice, I was just saying Berbatov should’ve been sacrificed so we could play 4-5-1 and hide our deficiencies. I can see and even agree with your positive approach by expecting more from the midfield. Im just being sceptical and pessimistic I guess, im being a Cunt, lol, I just want the 19th / 4th Title this year and im happy for us to do it cynically and ugly. That will REALLY piss them off, they’ve become spoilt watching us do it in style. I was ready to win it ugly after Ronaldo left and we didn’t replace. Winning is Winning. We want the 19th and the 4th Title.

  42. Costas says:

Watched a bit of Pool vs City today. What a horrible mess of a match! Oh and Walton is still refereeing?

  43. Xyth says:

AC Milan seem to have bounced back from the midweek defeat.
They are leading Bari away 2:0. Interesting to see that they have dropped their keeper.

We should make sure that they do not score first at OT.

  44. james21 says:

The problem is Berba will never be able to do anything right in some peoples eyes. Alot of the ones I hear calling him are armchair fans, not saying the fans on here are so don’t jump. Quality player Making and scoring goals and definately not lazy. Cantona wouldn’t charge around the field either. Everton played well we didn’t (2nd half) looked more like sloppy defending to me that cost us.

  45. rooney the new king says:

james21 – cantona was a big time personality a confident player, he had an ego like all great players do and what he had was great movement he scored the big goals and scored goals in general, and he was a talisman and he was a huge influence on the dressing room which he provided with great respect. Unfortunetly for berbatov he has non of the tools cantona had or the tools in general to make it has a great united player, thats why many are not convinced by him even though he had a good game yesterday.

  46. Costas says:

I was doing my usual geeky stat research earlier today. I wanted to see how often United win their weekend games after a Ch.League knock out tie. I didn’t involve group games, because they are not as crucial. Here’s what I dug up.

    - In 40 weekend games after Ch.League knock out ties(home and away), we have 23 wins.

    - In 20 weekend games after Ch.League knock out ties away from home, we have 11 wins.

    - In 16 weekend games away from home after Ch.League knock out ties away from home, we have 8 wins.

So it’s pretty much 50% in every case. Not making any excuses of course since Everton were also playing the same day, albeit at Goodison Park. But the truth is, that this is the time to suck it up. Ch.League knock out ties are very draining and we have to make sure that things are fresh in the next game.

  47. The Shankill Skinhead says:

Berbatov. Key goals in big matches. Dream on.

  48. Costas says:

By the way, it’s funny how 16 out of our 20 away C.L. ties away from home are followed by league or cup games away from home. FA cunts.

  49. King Eric says:

Costas – I knew we could rely on you for the stats. To be honest mate it is a bloody useful thing you do. Some of them really interest me. Hate making excuses but I have absolutely no doubt yesterday was in the main down to Tuesday night in Milan. As I said yesterday Pat Evra’s post match comments were revealing. He said that players just before the game were complaining of heavy legs and just did not seem ready mentally. Expect a thumping on Tuesday .

  50. richard walsh says:

lads evans was so bad on sat im only just able to write about it now.
if vidic does end up leaving we will HAVE to replace him.
not just evans, brown, smalling and an ageing rio.
jesus that is a recipe for disaster for next season…………………..

  51. Costas says:

    @King Eric

I hope so. And maybe it’s time for 1-2 of those who have carried the team for the last 2 months to catcha breather.

I wanted to do this, especially after I heard Evra’s comments. He is someone who doesn’t use excuses. Everton had their European game too, but it wasn’t against Milan at the San Siro was it? And I will reiterate that travelling is probably the worst part. That’s why I counted the away games separately.

  52. rooney the new king says:

richard walsh – are you high united have some great quality at the back they were just awful at the fact our midfield was poor

  53. rooney the new king says:

it was one of those annoying days unfortunetly united are having 2 many

  54. Costas says:

Not to mention that Jonny Evans has played the last 11 games for us. He was bound to run out of steam soon. No wonder he couldn’t even tackle Rodwell in the end.

  55. richard walsh says:

    @rooney the new king Said
so u would be confident with rio and evans as first choice center back pairing next season??
i have always thought evans had good potential but last few games have worried me so much.
its more than just bad games he just does not look up to it.

    just my opinion

  56. rooney the new king says:

richard walsh – the answer is yes ferdinand and evans at the back is a quality patnership. dont forget evans is 22 he has years ahead of him

  57. Stateside Aussie says:

The argument that “we need to play 4-5-1, therefore Berbatov is crap” is fucking illogical. And basically, that’s what those arguments boil down to. And by the way, I agree we need to play 4-5-1 — I’m just not stupid enough to blame that on Berba. I blame it on the midfield. Individually, most of them are good-to-great. But with Fergie continuing to favor the fast, wide approach, a 442 means leaving two in the middle to fight 3 or 4 of the opposition (given opposing formations).

But how is any of that Berba’s fault? And don’t give me any guff about how he could fit in if he was more flexible. He’s a striker, not a midfielder. And all of the names ppl suggest to replace him, are strikers too.

I’ve been saying it since the start of the previous season. Our problems all stem from the midfield (including many of our defensive and attacking problems). Carrick often goes missing. Scholes and Giggs are terrific but aging. Ando hasn’t matured. Gibson is one dimensional. Fletcher is great — oh how we suffer without him, and oh how we could do with 2 of him! And Hargo is injured and might never come back. What we need is a good, pressing, box to box midfielder, and until we get it, we will never play to our fullest potential.

  58. redscot says:

Cmon, abody know’s he has sublime touch and control of a fitbae. Superb , sheilding the ball. Did he Miss a Sitter or what. Still crying. il take the high road. comon Lads u gotta belive

  59. Chuvannistelrooy says:

Shame on all you “fans” out there still dissing Berbatov! Bottom line is this, we didnt turn up. Probably only Valencia and Berbatov actually played. Jonny Evans is such a talent but his confidence is so low no especially after Milan. We shouldnt diss our boys, they also read our blogs and hear what we say about them!

  60. Chuvannistelrooy says:

And the reason why we play 3 in the midfield is simply- To make it tight! If we had Hargo back and had a really creative midfielder, Fergie wouldnt mind 4-4-2. After all we were Scholes and Keane for years. If Carrick and Fletch could inject more confidence into their play and hold the ball even when under pressure, we could revert to 4-4-2

  61. sprite says:

    Stateside Aussie
    spot on mate

  62. jeet says:

Frankly, I think Saturdays’ defeat has got nothing to do with Berba or tactics. We tried hard, but Everton were better than us – they won. End of story. It was one of those defeats that I dont mind – its part of the game, and we tried hard (unlike, say, the Fulham defeat). Sure – its happened at a very bad time for us. But to blame Berba or SAF’s tactics, would be erroneous. The only thing which SAF could/should have done differently is to play Rafa instead of Gazza, but then that’s my opinion.

  63. Dela says:

WHAT? We lost because of Berba? Give me a break! His, and Park’s withdrawal came before we conceded the 2nd and 3rd goal, and IMO, Fergie corrected a “mistake” of leaving Rooney on his own by bringing on Owen to play alongside him (Rooney can be deadly on his own, but it clearly wasn’t working). I’m not even faulting Fergie for that, it’s just the way it went, but to single out Berbatov, who scored a beautiful goal and had a very decent game, is just denial about the result. We LOST, we were HAMMERED toward the end of the game. You want someone to get mad at, maybe Ferdinand putting himself in a position to get a ban after a lengthy spell out due to injury should annoy you guys more? Considering it would have been HIS job to defend, not Berbatovs. Berba’s job is to score.. and guess what… he DID. Or maybe get mad because Vidic wasn’t brought on… yet he was clearly fit enough to be brought on if he was on the bench, even if it was at 1-1 late in the day to try keep a point. Or maybe we can just blame nobody and accept that United were very poor, and as the game progressed, Everton were very good? Ye, that would sound like a humble response, wouldn’t it?

    Sorry for the rant.

  64. arijc says:

I disagree with the argument that we have to play 4-5-1 due to the lack of quality mid-fielders in our squad. I think the success of the 4-5-1 system in recent years is more to do with opposing teams choosing to play the same system and tactically it makes more sense to match that. Also the United way of playing is dependent on strong runs by wingers and thus the 4-5-1 at its best reverts to a 4-3-3 when we are in attacking half. To further enhance the attack, one or two of the 3 central mid-fielders also joins in the attack, a role which we see mostly Fletcher fulfill. We played in this manner in recent weeks, barring the Everton game.
For this system to work prefectly we need the 2 wingers and the central attacking player to have loads of pace and the ability to interchange positions on the wings. We had that when we had the Ronaldo, Rooney and Tevez. I think the modern game is more oriented towards players with pace and technical ability. Thats why I have my doubts over Berbatov’s future. There are no doubts about his technical ability and class. But in this modern era of football, his technical ability may not be enough in the long run.
As for the Everton game, there should be no excuses for that performance by the team. Looking forward to tomorrow and 3 points against West Ham.

Hi mate. I hope you are doing better. Mancini must be pulling his hair out. On one hand he has Bellamy, a certifiable lunatic and on the other hand he has Tevez who went to Argentina to see his newborn child and hasn’t featured in the last 3 games.

  84. vanderberg says:

we are correct in assuming that United are playing better with a 4-5-1 formation, wrong in stating that Roony and Berbatov can’t play together.

The two problems are interelated, not seperate issues. Rooney and Berbatov can’t flourish as a partnership because of the dearth of true quality in the midfield that is FORCING Fergie to play three men in the engine room to compensate.

United have not had a class pairing in midfield since the heady days of the Keane/Scholes partnership, with the result that United have been forced to field the two midfield anchors of Carrick and Fletcher, together with the generalship of Scholes, against quality opposition.

All the chatter about replacing Berbatov with a supposedly ‘better’ striker is pure garbage. Play Berba up top with rooney as support striker coz berba does not have the energy due to his style to run at defenders.

The Bulgarian was simply a treat to watch against Everton, pure class, and though it’s not going to happen I’d love to see the man given a run as a solo striker with a five man midfied behind him. His touch and control are just otherworldly, and for those who go on about how much we miss Ronaldo’s skill, just watch and take a look at the ease and aplomb with which he can fool a defender, or the manner in which he can hold up the ball against 2 – 3 defenders until he can deftly pass it to a team mate. And take a look at the replay of his goal – it was brilliant. To trap a ball so gently at his toes when it came at him so sharply, then snap the ball towards goal in one sharp movement, was no easy thing to pull off. Rooney, who’s close control is abysmal, would have bounced such a cross yards in front of him , probably into the path of a defender.

Finally, Rooney highlighted yet again against Everton just how poor his retention and control really are. He completely murdered a wonderful through ball from Berbatov, that should have resulted in a goal, by overkicking it past the goalie and into the path of Phil Neville (Berba, with his lovely touch, would have made no such mistake) and killed numerous promising forays forward with his stupid passing, poor decision making, and slack holding ability.

  86. Sanj says:

Exactly why I didn’t come onto RoM until now… so predictable. United lose, yet it’s Berbatov’s fault. Same old story from the same old people. YAWN.

  87. rooney the new king says:

vanderberg – oh shut up seriously about rooney, the way rooney is playing he is human after all he cant do it all. rooney yet again showed how poor his retention of the ball really is you are a first class idiot, rooney is teqnically one of the best players in the gae he just had a bad day. Yes this is the same rooney that is by far the premierships best striker and is the top goalscorer, the same rooney that destroyed arsenal, scored the winner against shitty and scored 2 goals in the san siro and other countless goals.

Dont even put berbatov is rooneys league who berbatov has been so poor since he came to united, yea 23 goals in 2 years in a united shirt is a great return isnt it idiot. if it was not for rooney we would not be hoping of winning the title again this season.

  88. Anon says:

Is Berb’s injury a serious concern? Or is he past the stage where he needed an operation?
If he is, I think it would be wise to play him against West Ham along with Owen in a 4-4-2. At Upton Park we played a 4-5-1 with Giggs Valencia and Rooney and won by a nice margin (4-1 I think), but I think Fletcher and Ando could do a job against West Ham, especially if Rio and Vida are back. Rooney will need the rest before the CC Final, and Berba is in a good goal scoring touch, so makes sense to continue that against a basement team. Not being over confident, but with a back four of Wes, Vida, Rio and Pat, + VDS, we will have enough to keep the likes of Carlton Cole at bay. Then all we need is one goal, and if we play Valencia, we will more than likely get that. We could even give Obertan a run, resting Park.
Donnoe what SAF is going to do, but I can see him giving Rooney a rest. Chances are slim though.

  89. redscot says:

Excuse this is A Drunken post, lol. I travelled to the game a 1000 mile round trip. Saf made the wrong substitions, yes I know he is a God, but he fucked us big time. Why the fuck put that midfield on against there’s. And then hall off Berbie, Valencia. Ok he missed a sitter. Rooney shot the ball to top corner, for that twat Distin to glance wide. Both Rodwell’s and Goslings Goals were as Jammy as fuck.I agree with everyone on here that says Jonny needs a rest( Yer gonna be a Star m8). I cant agree with anyone that say’s its all done and dusted. Just wont.
Its a bad loss I suspected all the way , be good to nick a draw. And no I didnae get ma heid kicked in at the Gladys Street end.
On an upwards, LADS , JUST Make sure you shout like fucking crazy, On Tuesday. Get behind the Team.
    Believe.

  90. Fred says:

Mankini demanding that Tevez returns to England is outrageous and yet another embarrassing PR own goal by the MASSIVE joke of a club. I wonder if Tevez’s mates have informed him of what Mankini has been saying, like they did with Neville’s comments. As someone said on another forum, contrast Mankini’s stance with how Fergie insisted Van der Sar take as much time off as he wanted during his wife’s serious health problems.

    Typical clueless, classless City.

  91. Wakey says:

    @Kel

it’s just more bullshit from Harris to use fans to make his clients richer. The initial comments from him that everyone clung onto and most still seem to talked about rich red knights who would clear debts and set the club up like barca and real.

Since then we have learnt from him and others connected that
    1) they think it will take 1.5billion to buy the club (that’s 30mill each just before admin and restructure fees)
    2) they won’t clear the debts
    3) the club won’t be fan owned
    4) these red knights are London money men and a few multi millionaires such as Fred Done so they don’t have and won’t be intrested in splahing 30mill and not get good returns
    5) the buy out will be done in the same way as Lerner at villa. Villa have a 70mill loan (the cost of the buyout) from one of Lerners companies which has to be paid back with intrest. So what Harris is saying is that the red knights want to load a further 1.5billion debt on the club ontop of the 0.5billion bond
    6) that he wants us to damage our team and the club just to force the Glazers out and save the red knights some money thus increasing the amount they can each take. It’s safe to assume that Harris as the point man is actually on a bonus for getting the club for less than their top price.

So how exactly are these red knights better for the club than the Glazers again? I know Harris comments seem to be ignored by the likes of Scott when they don’t have the same ability to push an agenda but I hope most people aren’t stupid enough to fall for Harris headline rally cries and reads everything he saysand realise he is a parasite using our emotions to get rich

  92. Anon says:

Agree with Wakey. Putting the team’s results in jeopardy is not the way forward. And the only thing worse than debt is more debt + multiple owners. Just look at Liverpool.

  93. Fred says:

Disagree with Tufty. I’d happily see United relegated if it got rid of the parasites.

  94. AL says:

Couldn’t read all the comments but I’m with the berba camp for this one. Slating him when the rest of the team didn’t play is just plain stupid.

He doesn’t slow play down, he delivers moments of magic that no one else in the team can.

  95. manchuchu says:

Give the club Fellaini and Dzeko and we’ll do the treble again super easy.

That is if Jonny Evans doesnt turn into jonny knoxville at midnight like he usually does.

  96. Costas says:

Seems like Rio and Vidic will get reunited for the first time in 4 months today. Fingers crossed!

  97. Corea says:

    Costas – hello mate.

“Fingers crossed!” – i understand you feelings, but if it happens during the Carling Cup final i will be satisfied :)

  98. Wakey says:

@Fred Well the simple fact then is you are an idiot if you are willing to risk the club completly just for a personal hated towards the Glazers. It’s fine bit liking the Glazers ownership but that doesn’t mean you should be letting yourself be used like Harris and the Red knights want. And certainly fans shouldn’t be trying to drive the Glazers unless there’s something actually better on the table and the simple fact is ATM there isn’t. All we have are some people pipe dreams and other peoples empty promises that once they have Fan backing they go back on one by one.

  99. GoatinaUnitedShirt says:

    @Fred

Your a cunt, no fucking about, your a cunt. You’d rather United got relegated just to get rid of the Glazers and gain another bunch of parasites. It wouldn’t help anyway wanker. United in 1975-76 in the old second division had a full house every match, unlike previous seasons. United fans love a bit of adversity and we stick together when the going gets tough as the green and yellow proves. But getting relegated just to appease your hatred of Americans is fucking stupid. The Glazers will never sell United for less than they bought it for, thats common sense, something you’ve got fuck all of you rusty badgers cock. So its one parasite for another with the a larger debt. Fucking clever, why don’t you piss off and support your FC United, your no United fan your just a poor mans city fan.

  100. GoatinaUnitedShirt says:

If Harris wants a club why not buy FC United, cheaper and if he wants wantaway United fans the place is full up with them. No one is stopping him and his Red Knights from investing wisely safely and surely to climb the league tables and finally make to the premier league and gun for glory.

Were not the Red Knights mate, were the Red Devils so fuck off.

  101. GoatinaUnitedShirt says:

Im so pissed off with the fans on here and their utter stupidity, I’m off. I’ve enjoyed at times talking to some of you but for the most part the hard core manc fans are so old school manc. Its fucking boring listening to rediculous anti american sentiment all the time, by people who couldn’t manage the cash flow of a fucking paper round. Pretending they were bred with the Comunist Manifesto under one arm and cap in the other. For fuck sake, grow up and stop being the hated of England that was supposed to be the dippers job.
I’ve always maintained that United is the best club, best history, best manager and most of the best players BUT we have by no means the best fans. Back stabbing, sellouts to bullshit rhetoric. Harris says hes a United fan, and you believe him, he may be may not be, hes a prawn sandwich muncher when it suits you all to call him that, then hes a hero for telling you to help fold United.
Well fuck you lot, therepublikofmancunia is in my eyes atleast no longer the voice of United fans and no doubt others will fucking leave to. United fans are split. All I know is Im going to the games and if tickets are spare so are all my mates and their families. If you drop your season tickets then I’ll snap them up for my kids.

  102. RED SAM says:

Wakey – i would be very dissapointed if your allegations turns out to be true.So harris wants to take advantage of our situation to bulk up his pockets ? Then he should just fuck off with his red knights and let MUST do the job.

  103. Wakey says:

    @RED SAM

Obviously we will never know for certain what Harris is on to get the deal done as he isn’t going to reveal that but if you are the point person negotiating a takeover then not only will you be being paid for doing so but there will also be perfomance bonuses in the deal. One of these will no doubt be on the deal going through and as I have said there is probally a max figure and then milestones below that with specific bonuses for getting the fee that low.

TBH I wouldn’t have a problem with Harris even getting these bonuses as he would just be doing his job BUT its the way he is using us to seemingly help make himself and his clients more money. He is just acting in a completly unresonable manner with the way he initial appeals to the pipe dreams and the concerns of most fans and then follows it up with calls to action BUT when he is challenged on certain promoises he admits they were empty before shutting the line of questioning down

  104. Costas says:

    @Corea

Hi mate. A warm up today will be ideal for them before they tussle with Hesky and Agbonlahor. And I am sure that Wes and Jonny are sick at the sight of each other. :P

  105. willierednut says:

    @costas
I think its better to take jonny evans out of the spotlight for a few games. If vida and rio can stay fit until the end of season, then i would go with them 2 in the run – in.

  106. Altonian says:

    @Wakey:

    1) they think it will take 1.5billion to buy the club (that’s 30mill each just before admin and restructure fees)

    - I heard it was closer to £1.2bn

    2) they won’t clear the debts

    - Surely they will, providing they don’t borrow money to finance the deal then all debt will be written off when it’s taken over (the debt will be taken out of the £1.2bn, the Glazers will get the rest).

    3) the club won’t be fan owned

    - It’ll be the closest it could get (with the people being involved been Utd supporters), it’s never going to be floated back onto the stock market.

    4) these red knights are London money men and a few multi millionaires such as Fred Done so they don’t have and won’t be intrested in splahing 30mill and not get good returns

    - Nobody really knows who is actually involved in this potential ‘buy out’. I see no reason why they wouldn’t be able to get good returns? The club would be a healthy investment for anyone once the debt is gone.

    - Once again i’m not sure where you get your facts from for such assumptions.

    6) that he wants us to damage our team and the club just to force the Glazers out and save the red knights some money thus increasing the amount they can each take. It’s safe to assume that Harris as the point man is actually on a bonus for getting the club for less than their top price.

    - He wants us to? Has this not already been spoken about on this site multiple times already about how we can force the Glazers out? Whilst doing this will decrease the value of the club (which will be a bonus to them) it’ll also increase the chance of getting a new buyer (which will be a bonus to us).

    ______________________________

All this talk about 4-5-1 formation, so many people saying we should play this really does emphasise how our midfield is seriously lacking. If we had enough quality in midfield we should comfortably be able to play 4-4-2 against teams such as Everton. The only teams we should be playing 4-5-1 against is top top teams (Chelsea, Arsenal etc) away.

I’m looking forward to tonight, could do with a good win to build up confidence again. Rio and Vidic back will be a huge bonus if it happens, Anderson back as well to freshen things up.

  107. Altonian says:

To add to the takeover point, I see no point in the takeover at all unless the debt was going to be written off. They’d essentially be in the same position as the Glazers if they were to borrow to buy the club.

  108. Fred says:

    @GoatinaUnitedShirt: Ta-ra! You won’t be missed, cunt.

  109. james21 says:

@ Goat in a Utd Shirt. Well Said!
I thought this thread/blog was about Berbatov not the bloody Glazers. Every time you come on here Glazer this Glazer that.
Every Game, Fans from all over the country and the world wearing green and Gold Hats, scarves and shirts freshly bought from the streets outside for 7 quid a throw not knowing what the hell its all about or signifies. Its called ‘The Bandwagon’.
I too will not boycott the club weather I agree with the owners or not. I ‘ve supported this club since birth and will not do anything to harm it as I feel a boycott will.
Rival fans want us to boycott hoping it will add further problems to our situation and force Utd into offloading the best players because we need the cashflow, stop the cashflow then we are in Deep Shit I also will be renewing my season ticket as I want to chant and chear on my team and will be trying to pick another up for next season for my Nephew. There are always other fans to fill the seats ,74+ thousand fans a games worth and during a resession now that aint bad.
