VIDEO: Does Nani Want Michael Owen’s 7 Shirt?

RoM met Nani last night at Nike’s latest event, Tear Up The Pitch, and got a few minutes to have a chat, asking some questions that RoM readers came up with. Don’t worry, I didn’t mention Ronaldo’s name once, which I imagine is the first interview he’s ever done where this has happened!

The interview in full will be on the blog later this week, but for now, here’s a little taster. After praising Nani on his turn around this season, I asked him if he fancied wearing our number 7 shirt in the future, once vacated by Michael Owen.

Aaaa..com on Scott! I’ve been waiting the whole day for the interview! :p

As for the number..as long as he didn’t get no.4…I’ll be GREATFUL!

  3. reddevil16 says:

    Very well said GHTT!!!!

  4. spacemanspiff says:

GHTT, right on the money, as always

  5. aig alex is god says:

I like Nani and he has shown massive improvement since the turn of the year but can he really follow in the footsteps of his predecessors?. i dont know.

  6. Costas says:

Nani is United’s number 17 imo. That’s his number for 3 years and I think it should stay that way.

  7. matthew.n.gravis says:

The only player in the club worthy of the #7 shirt at the moment, is Wazza.

  8. Sayyid says:

i see the FA are trying their best to ensure chelsea win the title

once again the officials have been a disgrace

there is no chance we will win the title this season even if we are the better team..the officials will refuse us penalties and not give any against Chelsea

lets see what fergie says about this

  9. reddevil16 says:

Nani is like many has stepped up this season… He is different from others as he doesnt take the moral high grounds or is arrogant… He has got 4 more years now… 4-5-1 is the name of the game and Nani would be the default choice… He has got everything set ahead for next season…. All he needs is more goals… which will come as they did with wazza…

  10. Sayyid says:

    from fergie

“His (Hargo) training performances have been fine but I think at the moment midfield is not an issue for us because we have plenty of alternatives.”

Is fergie having a laugh. Our midfield is the reason Berba has struggled and so have we this season
Thank god for Valencia and Nani this season, otherwise Rooney would have 15 goals

  11. Gotta hate tiny tears says:

    Sayyid
well put but it could be worse we could end up buying a lying c*nt for our midfield

  12. Sayyid says:

    GHTT

what a ridiculous transfer rumour. we don’t need this guy

im sticking with Rodwell, Milner and Silva

  13. reddevil16 says:

    Why not Gourcuff??

  14. Costas says:

    @Sayyid

What can Fergie say mate? They are dangling that extra 2 match ban over his head. The minute he critisizes them in the slightest way, they will impose it. Cunts.

Oh and hell no for Stephen Ireland.

  15. Costas says:

Fergie’s reasoning foir not using Hargo is a strange one. Of course we have options, but if we have nothing to play for, what;s wrong with Hargo clocking up a few minutes against Sunderland or Stoke? Unless he isn’t as ready as we think.

  16. keano99 says:

when he said he has two numbers and has number 7 i think that is his squad training number every player has one and its not the same as their shirt number.

  17. Paul Parker says:

    Great Question Scott.

Im too young to remember Best but I do remember Robson, the arrival of Eric Cantona and the impact of Beckham and Ronaldo.

I think Nani could make that Shirt his own, he has the skill,
but I would understand if he chose not to take it, he doesn’t need it, and it would be the perfect opportunity for the ABU Media and section sof our own fans to keep comparing him to Ronaldo.

Nani needs to be himself, as he is a classy, skillful, fast player with a great shot.

    Say no more.

Can’t wait to hear the rest of the Interview. ROM Exclusive well done Scott !

  18. willierednut says:

His English is getting better, at least he’s trying to learn unlike the troll who couldn’t be bothered.

  19. kel says:

Cant wait for the full interview. But his interview seems to be funny. lol

  20. s18 says:

  21. Maci says:

    What is this?

  22. manchuchu says:

    What?

  23. Mansurooney Rano Nigeria. says:

Yes nani he deserve 7jesey or if dont want give it 2 him u will kept it 4 benzema, david villa, silva,di maria, d zeko. please sir

  24. TheRadLegion says:

    @mansurooney
You might as well just replace the whole team

  25. james21 says:

Couldn’t hear Nani very well, something about Lucky number. Look forward to the rest.
C’mon Nani play like you did against Munich and tear the Bitters appart for us.

  26. Chloe says:

Wow, that’s quite cool, I admit I’ve not always been Nani’s biggest fan, but I’m looking forward to the rest of this interview.

  27. Fred says:

Jimmy21, I think the gist of it was he doesn’t mind not having number 7 because he has a 7 on his back anyway, as well as a 1! He believes his number brings him luck.

As for the current owner of our number 7 shirt, I would rather have seen Darren Fletcher wear it, a la Bryan Robson. I think Fergie was reticent to give it to Antonio because he didn’t want to put more pressure on him to fill Ronaldo’s shoes.

Michael Owen is just an interim #7 anyway. ;-)

  28. Marq says:

I think he should stick to 17. And btw, he has come to life since the turn of the year, but his decision making is still quite poor, but that of course will improve with more experience…… we hope

  29. Obdk says:

I rather valencia wear no 7

  30. portugueseprincess says:

I hope nani keeps n.17 and I totally agree with GHTT. Well said mate.

  31. Devilism86 says:

Nani owns no 17 … Can’t think of him in any other no , he’s really put insome performances this season . Arsenal , bayern recent ones .
    @ manusrooney
That guy thinks were like those real Madrid scum who only buy success which I can’t see ! Get a grip mate all those names are the ones in the tabloids .. Atleast be original and suggest players you stand up for … Or is your football knowledge the size of a pea ? And stick with the discussion ..

  32. McQueen says:

We’ve seen this season that Nani thrives on confidence. If the number becomes available and he is playing well enough to earn it and feels he can do it justice then i say give it to him. It would be a massive confidence boost and i think it would only improve his performances, he is good enough to wear it in my opinion. Look forward to the rest of the interview!
