VIDEO: Evans’ Red Card vs Bolton

szólj hozzá: —

Jonny Evans was shown a straight red card for a challenge on Stuart Holten which saw the Bolton player receive a cut on his leg. Both players’ feet left the ground, with Evans’ winning the ball, but after the Bolton player came off worse, Evans was sent off.

Fergie’s right, the refs are shite.

From result perspective, Evans was guilty, but if I saw from the beginning of the scene, they’re both guilty. But we’ve got the result we wanted and to see Park Ji Sung again on the bench was a good thing, though we had 2 youngsters as backup defenders (Fabio & Gill) worried me.

  2. soccerisfootbal says:

no worries, in two weeks we should have vida back. fabio and brown can share rb until rafael and o’shea are fit. it’s a bit scary that we have 6 games in april and we aren’t fit!!! time to step it up fellas.

  3. McQueen says:

I dunno Scott I don’t have any complaints about the decision. If it was against us I would’ve wanted him off. Holten went in with nowhere near the same momentum and his studs weren’t facing forwards, plus his trailing leg had only milliseconds earlier been touching the ground. He was never going to hurt anyone the way he went in whereas jonny could have done some damage. We can complain when they’re not given against us (carragher) but this tackle was dirty.

  4. gerkeo says:

Evans was off his feet and studs showing, sure he got the ball but he hot an awful lot of the man. If it happened against united we’d be spitting bullets. after all the recent fuss there was only going to be one result, red.

  5. Jack says:

I’m sorry but you saying the refs are shite after actually sending off a studs up two footed challenge screams of double standards after carraghers disgusting tackle only getting a yellow card and the ruckus that caused.
I should think that we should all be thankful that refs are actually starting to reward these terrible challenges with red cards.

  6. MyCowIsTheBest says:

I dont think this deserves a red card. I dont mean it in a biased way, but i would have felt the same no matter who was involved. Purely 50-50, no malicious intention from both players, purely accidental.

    Conclusion : refs are shite.

  7. Bishopville Red says:

Had it played out a second later, he would have the cut and the other guy the red card.

When you leave the ground like he did you’re not going to get the benefit of the doubt. This reminds me of DeJong on Ben Arfa when Ben Arfa broke his leg. The focus of that tackle was behind the ball’s location. He didn’t tackle at the ball so much as the space behind it. Sadly, someone else was occupying that space.

Tough, but right. I light of other acts that went unpunished, it’s harder to swallow. Makes Carragher’s non-red (and DeJong’s non-call) even more absurd.

  8. mocthezuma says:

That was completely correct decision by the ref. The sending off is clear as day. I don’t know how United supporters can complain about Carragher’s challenge on Nani and then say that this was a harsh sending off. Of course, there is no consistency with the refs, but this was absolutely the rigjt call from the ref. Just makes me doubt Evans’ ability even more, seeing him do such a stupid thing when he knows how few players the team has available. Next thing you’ll see is Oliver Gill starting the next league game.

And what a terrible midfield we have. Giggs was ok, but Carrick was absolutely helpless once again. We really need to get Hargreaves and Anderson back ASAP! And we need to get some new players in the summer. How Carrick was able to get a new deal is beyond me. He has so many bad passes during a game and there is always a sense of uncertainty with him. Hopefully he will be replaced before the next season, if not, then he should really up his game performance several levels. I just wonder if Ferguson would retire tomorrow and the likes of Murinho would come in, would Carrick last more than a few days? I doubt it.

  9. Raizzen says:

Yeah, I agree with MyCowIsTheBest here. Purely 50-50 challenge. Nothing malicious. But he just had to go. Was bleeding after all.

But just look at the position though, Evans had to make the tackle. There were 2 or 3 United players on the left flank at that time trying to contain one Bolton player and failed – the pass to Holten could actually be potentially dangerous. And Evans was left alone to handle the situation and I think he should be applauded for giving his all for the team – well maybe not if we were to lose that game. But we didn’t.

Were we to trail Bolton by 1-0 at that time I don’t think we would have a chance of getting back into the game considering the defensive nature of Bolton’s approach to the game.

I still think the future of our backline will revolve closely between Evans and Smalling partnering.

Well, a slightly different perspective I guess. ;)

  10. thedubdemon says:

studs showing means he could have done serious damage to the bolton player.. correct decision for me. but its pretty obvious he was going for the ball, unlike that coward at the kop

  11. Keeps says:

Looked like a 50% 50% to me. Timing was off and off he went. No complaints. The boy had to go for it so can’t blame him either. Personally I love it when my defenders put themselves about.

Makes me even more pissed off that the scum scouser only got a yellow though. The refs are shite and despite what all the ABUS say, we know the refs are all against us.

Also nice to see Sir acknowledging the red instead of avoiding the question outright like Dogleash…

  12. the scottish wonder says:

This was a horror tackle and was almost if not as bad as Carragher´s…

  13. King Eric says:

Mocthezuma. What are you talking about? I wouldn’t want that cunt mourinho anywhere near united. Fergie knows playrs and has a better record in the transfer market than him. Some of his rentboy dealings were a piss take. What has mourinho got to do with united or carrick? He gets a pass from me but I thought giggsy was poor today and carrick was doing two peoples jobs. But for carricks block we could have been a goal down. He also made a crucial interception. Carrick is always the scapegoat these days.

As for the red I aren’t even sure. Yes his studs were up but so were Holdens. From in the ground it looked a perfectly good fifty fifty. No complaints after seeing the gash but I thought evans was unlucky. Some I see call him stupid but I bet they would be moaaning if he had jibbed out the tackle. Again another scapegoat. He is clearly suffering in confidence so the last thing he needs is people on his back. We have seen what he can do. He was an integral part of our title win season before last.

  14. King Eric says:

Thescottishwonder. Was it fuck. It wasn’t in the same league as that scouse bastards. Carragher went for nanis shin and had no intention whatsoever of winning the ball. He only had one thing in mind. He didn’t even need to make that challenge. They were two up and nearly halftime and it was right on the touchline. Jonnys was an important tackle to make and he went in fifty fifty. Even lawrenson hansen and even collymore staunch abus said there was no malice. Hansen said he was very unlucky.

  15. jespermoses says:

@King Eric…..spot on mate…..dont want mourinho at united…fuck him and his merry little press circus.the mans a clown and dosen’t fit with a club like United.

  16. Nobby says:

Definite red card, the slow motion replay made that clear. The ref was pretty good today.

Problem for referees in the premier league is credibility, for every nine decisions they get right they get one wrong and yet the wrong decision will be a stand out a hundred times more than the right ones.

Fergie should really quieten down about referees in my opinion. I have the greatest respect for the man, but unless he has any ideas on how to make the refereeing decisions easier then there’s no point saying anything about the referees because it’ll only put them under more pressure and when people are under pressure they make mistakes.

    Possible ideas:
    - Goal line technology definitely should be in.
    - Introduce the 5th and 6th officials into the league like the champions league.
    - Captains only speak to the referees. If the ref isn’t speaking to a player and someone comes up and starts talking to the ref then they should get carded.
    - Also I would think about introducing video replays, maybe give the ref the choice of referring to the video or better still give managers a chance to call for a video review, only once play has stopped and each team only gets 1, 2 or 3 calls a match.

  17. Adi says:

The Arsenal equalizer – Comes right off the hand of Bendtner, fall in front of Albion defender who is fouled by van Persie to push the ball goalwards. If that is a valid goal then the Ref has no right to demand Respect from the players.
The ref must be definitely pleased that it was the pitch that received the blame for Arsenal’s performance and not him.

  18. veek says:

you know at half time when i saw berb and fabio coming on i was going ‘pls pls pls carrick and evans off’

was rather gutted to see two players who were actually solid performers in the first half coming off. i’ve never been brown’s biggest fan, but i appreciate the loyalty he has shown to the club and more importantly, today he was rather solid.imho our first half performance was way better than the second half up till the red.

  19. ScholesForGoals says:

It is becoming blatantly obvious that football in general is being brought into disrepute.. Managers serving lengthy touchline bans, players getting away with blue murder in unpunished, fowl play. I really hope in the upcoming FIFA president elections in June that they kick Blatter the fuck out and put someone in charge that wants to aid the game and it’s participants with video replay technology and the like, so that the right call is made at the right time EVERYTIME. The amount of managers complaining about the officials in games is intensifying and extremely commonplace of late, and through the simple introduction of appropriate technology, the bullshit in the game would be completely eradicated. it really is a no brainer.

Managers wouldn’t be able to contest ‘poor’ decisions post-match as video would be sought during game play to make factual decisions rather than those based on speculation. Watching MOTD and hearing the injustices managers claim would be a thing of the past. Poor standards of exacting the laws of the game are unfair, and in comparison to other sports, football being one of the oldest is a late-developer when matched against the technological developments of other field sports such as rugby. Why the reluctance? Well, they wouldn’t be able to slap £30k fines on managers who speak out-of-turn for a start. Ooh the bastards. The objection to introducing key advancements to me it seems is the potential loss of money. because I see no other disadvantage of it becoming a main stay in our beloved game. Take for example last season, that dubious free kick that gifted the rent boys a Terry flick on.. It decided the game and gave them overall the necessary point they needed to deny us a successive premier league trophy. I don’t want us getting away with shoddy tackles because it means if we get away with it then so can others. players are never properly reprimanded or punished appropriately. Today’s tackle was a straight-forward 50/50.. It could have gone either way.

  20. Balaji Sivaraman says:

I cannot believe people missed the point of this post by Scott.

He is saying the refs are shit not because Evans was given a red, but because Carragher wasn’t. This was the completely correct decision. It was not a malicious tackle but both players went for the ball. Difference is Evans went in a more dangerous posture with his legs up and Holden ended up worse as a result. So, it was a definite red card.

In comparison, the Carragher tackle was a player who had no intention of winning the ball and his only goal was to stop the other player from playing the game. And that only got an yellow. So, it makes it clear that the refs are in fact shit.

  21. loughie21 says:

I’ve said it to a few friends (and admitted my United bias might play a part) BUT!

    1) Jonny didn;t miss the ball, ha made good contact with it but ended up following true

    2) his lunge was one footed, his other foot was neatly tucked

    3) he wasn’t high off the ground, Holden’s legs were both low cos he was sliding in as well so its completely different to nani who was standing.

it wasn’t the best tackle, it cut an opponent, but thats because jonny was diving one way and holden another, there’s no way it was a red card, it had none of the characteristics of one.,..

(high foot, last man, two footed etc.

And there was an equally bad tackle on evra earlier in the game, free kick, no card

  22. jespermoses says:

just watched the tackle 20 times and that is never a red card…fact!

  23. banglared says:

anyone read the news about seeing douglas costa around old trafford walking with united officials ??

  24. Redbeard says:

    @ loughie21

“And there was an equally bad tackle on evra earlier in the game, free kick, no card”

    - he didn’t even give the free kick, mate!

  25. Nobby says:

@ScholesForGoals The problem with video replay technology in game is that football is a free flowing game that requires quick decisions. Implementing it without consideration could be very detrimental to football. We don’t want the stop-start shitty-ness of NFL.

@Balaji Sivaraman I don’t think we’re saying Scott’s point is wrong, we’re just saying it was a red. Basically we all just want some bloody consistency right?

@loughie21 and jespermoses It wasn’t a 100% clear cut red, but he’s left the ground and it’s studs first and once you do that you’ve lost control of yourself and therefore it’s a dangerous tackle. Doesn’t matter how high up he is or where he hits the player.

Evans needs to take some of the blame because it was a poor decision to go for the slide tackle, he was between the player and the goal, the ball was a little way ahead of Holten. Had he not panicked he could have easily defended it. Maybe lack of games and the pressure got the better of him.

  26. 0161-Jon says:

he deserved to be sent off, had a poor game too. I hope Evans can regain his form of last season quick as it’s looking miles away from his game recently.

  27. dannysoya says:

if evans was on the receiving end of that kind of tackle. we would all be up in arms and we might even send a mob to Holden’s house. It was a red card even though they both went in 50-50. Holden’s injury didn’t help things and judging by that injury even i would have sent Evans off.

  28. KingOfStretfordEnd says:

Are you sure Scott? i thought it was sort of reckless but yes it was 50-50. My only question is why carragher didnt get sent off for the one on Nani.

Well the FA are ABUs so what do we expect?

  29. Dean Strauss says:

Evans deserved to be sent off. The fact that it’s even being debated here asks major questions about some of the posters on this board. And I say this as a United fan that is on ROM every single day. Thug Carrahger-like bullshit.

  30. yardiered says:

If he was sent off earlier I strongly blieve we wouldve scored more, Evans is just a mistake waiting to happen. Him being missing from the backline meant the team had to fight harder to fill the void he left. Scrapping for evry loose ball and fighting like gladiators, it was epic.

Let’s just hope the Serbian Wall returns and stays, Smalling is looking good and should change his name to Larging, Bigging or something more fitting.

  31. Dean Strauss says:

    Hopefully
Evans is off in the summer and we bring in Bellamy, de Jong, Barton, and all the other great footballers we can find.

  32. Balaji Sivaraman says:

@Dean Strauss, Even though Evans deserved to be sent off, I can’t imagine anyone comparing it to Carra’s tackle. Even Owen Coyle, who I really respect, has magnanimously stated that it was two players going in hard and one ending up worse. It was not a thuggish tackle like Carra’s was where he had no intention of playing the ball and his only aim was to give it to the opposition player.

Evans and Holden both went in hard, but Evans had one foot raised and caught the guy in a wrong position. On a different day, Holden might’ve been sent off and Evans might’ve got on a stretcher. But it was reckless nonetheless and deserved to be sent off. But do get your facts right before you post again.

  33. Dean Strauss says:

Banjji: go fuck yourself and start answering my calls when I phone incur tech support on my computer.

  34. GoatinaUnitedShirt says:

Strausse fuck off you boxhead with your racist shite.
Piss off back to Germany/Austria and write another dreary concerto about some dandy getting bumbed behind the bikenshedden.

  35. Dean Strauss says:

Even as a United fan, if you ever dare raise a point on this website that seems “anti United” , no matter how rational the point, loads of gloryhunting d-bags flip their lids. Of course Carragher’s ttackle was shit and he should have been banned for 3-5 games. What hurt more is that Carragher is a thug and Nani plays pure football. Holden, admit it or not, was the brightest footballer on the pitch for most of the day. My question is simply: where does Evans fit in? And fuck off wiith the “he’s so young” bullshit; seriously, elighten this board and say what you think he brings to the future of our back four because I, for one, think Smalling’s long term partner is not yet on the team.

  36. Dean Strauss says:

Goat: not even close to either. Not even sure what boxhead or bikenshed even mean. But I see you on this site quite a bit. What do you think of our back 4 situation? Evra Brown Smalling and who else? Carrick? Not so sure.

  37. AtlReds says:

that holden may be out for US internationals against argentina and paraguay. And seeing it live the first time I thought red immediately :(

  38. GoatinaUnitedShirt says:

Dean Strauss, whats your solution. Buy a defender for 20 odd million and play him instead. What happens when Vida and Ferdi are back fit. Is this new superstar centerback going to sit quietly on the bench.
What has happened is simple. Ferdi and Vida are not fit to play so we look to next in the pecking order. We see who it is and play them. What is the problem. Of course Evans isnt as good as Vida or Ferdie, if he was he wouldnt be at United warming the bench, he would have done a Heinze and wanted out.

Whats my take on the back four. We dont have a back four we have a squad and those players have a pecking order and sometimes players are rested for up and coming matches, sometimes they are injured.
Smalling I think is a really good prospect, h doesnt seem as clued up as Ferdie or as wise but wisedom comes with age but he is as strong as Vida and is very useful with his head.
Evans is a clever defender that reads the game well, unfortunately he hasnt gelled particularly well with any other of our center backs and he isnt vocal. If your a sorter outerer (someone who thinks) then you have to be vocal, like Ferdinand, Bruce, Stam etc. Evans is a good fill in but not ready to be with another youngster learning his trade. The reason why Evans played in the center and not Brown was because of 1, height. We needed height against Blton so we had to play all 3 of Brown, Smalling and Evans. 2. Evans plays center back LEFT and Smalling plays center back RIGHT as does Brown. Playing Brown and Smalling would have left us slightly unbalanced. For you info Vida plays LEFT and Ferdi plays RIGHT.
Carrick filled in only because it was forced upon us to make that change. So Its no good criticizing what was an emergenncy measure.

For your info Strauss. Boxhead is a derogatory term for a sausage muncher, a kraut, a Gerrie a German. You had a go at Belaji on a racist note and I thought it was a case of the kettle calling the pot black. Strauss is a Germanic name and not English so I didn’t quite understand what your stand on racial superiority was. Because everyone knows Germans are cunts. Bikenshedden was a crude immatation of German bike shed.

  39. Balaji Sivaraman says:

@Dean, Ignorace is bliss and I am going to ignore your complete existence on this blog after the kind of post you threw up. I hope that post gets deleted because that kind of stuff shouldn’t be on a blog for the world’s most popular football club.

@Goat, No use talking to people like them I am afraid. But good retaliation post on our defensive situation nonetheless.

  40. Chep13 says:

Deserved red for Evans. stupid tackle. if that had happend opposite we would have called for crucifixion of the Bolton player. let`s be honest to ourselves, lads and do not try to excuse all what we do wrongly

  41. Little Red Ant says:

The tackling positions of both players were identical , one leg sliding the other out to get the ball, which we have seen countless times in a game can work or in this case doesn’t. Jonny’s studs were showing and went in to the Bolton lads leg. Maybe the Bolton players foot hit Jonny as well but not as hard. The ref saw it and decided it was red and not a yellow which we can’t really argue about. That is where the problem is with refs getting a split second to decide on what is a foul etc based on seeing once and only one angle.
That type of tackle didn’t have to be made, Jonny should have not gone to ground – easier to win the ball staying on his feet to tackle and putting his weight over the ball with a good old fashioned block.
These days you run the risk of being sent off for a relatively mild tackle.

I think the Carraghar assault on Nani may even have led to this red card. All the fuss (rightly so) made about not sending the twat off may have been on the refs mind, thinking “Christ if I don’t get this right I’m in trouble” – you never know

Dowd had a linesman to help him but did nothing – shameful

  42. dela says:

The problem isn’t that we don’t have enough defenders, our luck has been rotten as far injuries are concerned. We have 7 top defenders, which is about as many as any of the big teams in the world. When 4 of them get injured at the same time, there isn’t much you can do apart from curse your luck and get on with it.

Am I the only one who feels that the gaffer should turn to Vermijl and Gill, given the current situation?

    @Dean
I thought that sort of spite was behind us, now that we are in the 21 st century and everything. Apparently, I was wrong. I have never seen you around here, but I’m glad I haven’t. You’re a disgrace.

  43. PHZ says:

50-50? No red card? Sorry, I don’t get it.
It was obvious red card. If this faul was against United player we would want red car. So don’t defend Johny.
Refs are shite, ‘cos Carragher didn’t get red, not because Johny got one

  44. GoatinaUnitedShirt says:

I think the ref got it wrong. Not because Johny got a red card but because the card was given because of result of the tackle. Cards and decisions against players are given on INTENT not result. Deliberate foul, deliberate hand ball, deliberate elbow etc etc.
It was two players both intent on getting the ball, both going in at the same speed in almost, if not identically poses. It is clear that if Evans hadn’t of caught Holden on the knee then Holdens momentum would have carried him further forward onto Johny and Evans would have come away with a terrible gash up the thigh.
If the card is given for a reckless challenge with intent then whilst Holden was carried off he should have also got a red. Instead Johny was blammed for the entire incident which was 50-50 by two dedicated players. Johnys situation allbeit brought on by himself was damned if I do damned if I dont.
What is upsetting is Taylor then came on and almost settled the game when, if the ref decides on red cards, he shouldnt have even been allowed to be subbed on.
It is therefore clear that the ref got it wrong. Not for showing the red but for being so one bloody sided about it.

  45. Balaji Sivaraman says:

@Goat, Yeah, mate, exactly what I said in my previous post. On another day, Evans might’ve ended up on a stretcher and Holden might’ve been sent off. As SAF said in the post-match interview, the card was for the injury, not for the tackle. Had it not resulted in the gash on the knee, Evans probably would’ve got a yellow out of it.

The thing is that most people are afraid of media backlash than following the rules of the game. Imagine if he had not given a red card and was of the opinion that the tackle was not malicious and did not deserve a red. He would’ve been massacred in the media as being pro-United. That is why cards like these are given out I am afraid.

And until something fundamentally changes about the nonsense British media, the newspapers and sports channels are always going to be the critical factor in deciding cards, touchline bans, player bans etc. That is just the way it is I am afraid.

  46. Costas says:

I thought the red was fair. It reminded me of Gerrard’s red at Old TRafford in January. At the time, I thought that was harsh too because he got some of the ball, but you can’t go into tackles like that. If Evans was 2nd in that challenge, Holden would have been the one seeing red .

Jonny looked a lot better than he had for most of the season and I hope this doesn’t affect him.

  47. United says:

Can’t complain about the decision, the extend of injuries always way on the refs mind.

  48. CedarsDevil says:

    Dean Strauss

What a disgraceful racist piece of shit you are. Get out of your corner and go and learn about the world you ignorant fuck.

What a shame that the world still harbors idiots like you, and NO you are NOT a United fan by any means

  49. veek says:

i tink, for by the rule of law, evans deserved the red. However the problem lies in the fact that in recent times we have suffered similiar or worse tackles where the player got away with less.

  50. mattbw7 says:

Both players went for a ball, Evans red was probably deserved but only if it serves as a baseline and all other tackles are treated in the same way, some chance.

Strauss you try to make a valid point but surround it so much tripe and vitriol its no wonder people think you’re a prick, your IT jibe was despicable.

  51. GoatinaUnitedShirt says:

Balaji the British press has always been the problem with football. Its them afterall that decide the national football team. Im sick and tired of that cunt Murdoch ruining our bloody country. What does a fucking Aussie know about Football anyway. I had to spend five odd plus years listening to the remarkable players that were Kewell and fucking Viduka that in my opinion werent worthy of getting to play in the Premier league. (For all you that disagree, you only like him because the Murdoch media said they were good and made sure that awards followed them wherever).
With Capello and the world cup. The team was picked by the press. Im not saying the press are wrong to put up a projected England squad but they do have to remember that they are NEWSpapers not OPINION papers, that is false marketting. If Capello picked Jagielka, Lescott, Young, Agbonlahor etc and England lost Capello would have been hung for not picking Gerrard, Lampard an unfit Rooney etc etc. So he went with the safe option of taking players that are the media darlings.
Lampard is an ok midfielder. He can pass but not as well as Scholes and many others. He isnt all that fit in the sense end to end stuff. He rarely tackles back unless its a set play for the opposition and hes a liability in midfield when the opposing team counter attacks.
Gerrard shoots as soon as he can see the colour of the keepers shirt and 9 times out of 10 blasts it into row Z. He does one or two top class long balls where a winger runs into masses of space unchallenged and gets the odd goal. If I shot 10 times in a sodding match Id expect to get 1. If he had of passed more often instead of shooting then I believe Liverpool would never have been out of the top 4.

And now I come to Rooney.
And Im in a bashing mood. The medias darling. Chico misses a shot and the cameras are focussed on Rooney. Rooney missus a shot and the cameras are focused on Rooney. Half time whistle blows and the cameras are focused on Rooney. Hes worth 200 000 a week because the cameras are focused on Rooney. Yesterday Rooneys control was that off a sunday league pub player, his distribution is shite and only come deep I believe because if he didnt rush back and do a few pointless sideways and back passes then his passing stats would be 10%. If anyone is going to tell me that Rooney is world class then they are quite simply from the third world because Rooney is not all that. I have come to an opinion that Rooney just doesnt fit in. It happens sometimes unfortunately. Its plain to see that he has absolutely no rapor with Nani and they rarely despite their ability gel and make anything work.
The reason why we are worried about the defence is because they look unconfortable whilst under pressure. Surely the problem is we turn over the ball all too readily. If they dont have the ball how can they put our defence under the cosh. This is not United of old and Rooney and Nani are guilty of some terrible decision making. We cant carry both despite them being the media love ins.
    Rant over.

  52. CedarsDevil says:

    Goat

Great rant buddy, no arguments with your post

  53. Costas says:

Need I add anything to Goat’s post about the media? Berbatov’s last season was similar to Rooney’s 10-11 campaign and we remember how the media crucified him…

Not that I am critisizing Rooney here. Juts saying…

  54. mattbw7 says:

Goat, while Nani can be frustrating he never stopped being a threat yesterday, his head never went down and in the end his shot couldnt be dealt with by the Bolton keeper and gave Berbatov his opportunity.

  55. CedarsDevil says:

    Dean Strauss

Just so we will not forget, fuck off you racist cunt

  56. RedFilip says:

To everyone who disagrees with Scott and states that it was a deserved red card,
I think Scott tried to compare this tackle to the one that CarraScum made on Nani, Evans’ was much fairer and he was the one who got a straight red card and not a yellow one.

  57. GoatinaUnitedShirt says:

    mattbw7
Agree with Nani is a hell of a threat as Rooney can be but there are sides to their game that need a little more discipline. The inability to hold the ball is not a problem a United player ought to have and by simple Math if you half the offenders then half the crime is rubbed out. I feel we cant carry both the way they both make some silly decisions so untill they improve one has to sit or go.
Id prefer to keep Nani if I had to choose because top class wingers who can play both sides are harder to come by than world class center forwards.
Thats what is so good about Berbatov it isnt all that easy getting the ball off him and he rarely tries to make an umakeable pass when possession is more important. It was the same with Cantona and Hughes, you could trust them to hold on to it and await support.

Your points are on the mark and well made. I would like to follow on the Rooney rant if you dont mind.
I am sick of hearing how “fantastic” the so called Rooney and Chicharito partnership is supposed to be. Rooney has no longer got the burst of pace because he is overweight or it has just gone as he gets older.
    Chicharito is amazingly good.
Rooney is in no way capable of justifying a “£200k a week or Im off to City” demand.
Each and every single week he should be playing like Messi for that money – he simply doesnt and most weeks he cant control the ball and has a 1 goal every 40 games scoring rate over the last couple of years.
His name should never be sung again at Old Trafford – HAS EVERYONE REALLY FORGIVEN THAT HE WAS OFF TO CITY TO GET HIS GREEDY DEMANDS ????
Get rid of him and get Wesley Sneider for our shocking midfield – Rooney can be replaced with any of about a dozen players that would cost no more than £10million each.

But GIAUS has it exactly right – The media would never allow it and would describe it as” The Fall of the Mancunian Empire” and “Inexplicable madness to let him go”

On another point I can’t believe the Carrick knockers today, he was superb yesterday, did he mispace passes yes but then so did others I bet when Scott puts the stats up his pass completion will be high, he was imense carrying out his defensive duties and saved us twice with blocking goal bound shots.

I too am unsure about the Rooney Chico partnership and certainly dont believe a Berbatov Chico partnership would be any worse. I would want nothing more for Rooney to be a success but its not down to me to make him one, its down to him. No doubt were just going to have to take this season for Rooney down to experience.
Im not sure 10 million would be enough to replace all that is Rooney though mate. And to be honest Im not sure about Schneider. Its not a particularly United thing to do to sign a player of his age for big bucks. He’ll be 27 in the summer. I feel Schneiders strengths are alot in his running and his ability to move about and players generally dont last that long on the physical side of things, they generally slow done. We did buy Berbatov but his skill was always more of experience and talent and reading of the game. (By that Im not saying Sneider hasnt got talent). Berbatov was signed because we had no senior striker at the club to teach Rooney his trade and how to improve as a footballer. Schneider isnt a player that can teach a like minded player anything as we dont have that player here. To be honest I think instead of Sneider we should think of Scholes for a final year tutoring Cleverly to fill the playmaking role. I think 10 years of Cleverly + 1 year of Scholes and 2 years of Giggs playing centrally is a better bet than 4-5 of Scneider at a ridiculously inflated price of 30 odd million.

Back to the original post, then…

The call for video technology (vt) is ridicolous. How would vt make decisions right? Just look at this discussion – we HAVE vt, that’s why we’re having this discussion. The fact that pundits and fans can replay the situation over and over, from different angles and in slomo – and still will discuss it for days – how does that make the decision easier for the ref?

As far as I could see – the decision was not much debated on the field, and Evans didn’t look very surprised. I agree he was unlucky, but the decision was not exactly blatantly wrong. That’s good enough for me.

The refs have raised their standards considerably during the last years – but they do have their stinkers. This is part of the game. I think they would gain more respect if they admitted bad decisions after games, and then got on with it. And I feel anyone connected to the game (managers included), should be allowed to express their views on officials as they do on every other aspect of the game.

    But video technology? No way.

  71. Balaji Sivaraman says:

Goat, Great rant mate! The only surprise is that you did not include the spineless England manager and have a go at England’s new and only worthy captain. I am assuming you thought that these were below United’s level and did not warrant discussion, maybe.

Matt, There is only one problem with Nani which I’ve been stating for a long time. It is his decision making. In 99% of the matches, it is not going to cost us a lot because he has such talent that – as happened yesterday – he will create the one chance that might change the game. But in other games against top opposition, his decision making might come back to bite us.

I’ve seen him take improbable shots when Evra has been wide open for the cross inside. That might make a difference against a better side where such decisions might be the difference between winning or losing – like a Champions League final perhaps.

Again this has no knock on his ability or performance levels and I have no reasons to criticize him since he has been our 2nd best player behind Vidic. But it is something that definitely needs working on for him to truly reach the outstanding levels he is capable of.

  72. Mikael says:

I think it’s a red when I look at the re-run. The difference to the tackle on Nani is that there was no intent on Evans part so it shouldn’t be any lengthy ban… but Carraghers was so ugly and with one intention, to take Nani out, so he should be banned for a long time.

  77. Rai says:

what a shame he couldn’t stay fit he was awesome on his day…a two footed, strong and athletic striker….not many around (although Ronnie is now predominantly a striker and not a winger)

  78. MG says:

    Time to jump in

Both players went for it – the Bolton player got off worse – their could have been a scenario that it could have been the other way or equally they would both have been fucked – at that point does the ref still give two red cards?

It was an unfortunate incident – one that should not have occurred – but it happened because both players were equally passionate getting the ball – and that was the end of that.

It was a red card but it was a harsh one considering what has happened in the last few weeks – I think most of us realise that if justice can be done for that then what happened to us under far worse circumstances and nothing happened makes mockery of the system.

Standards of officials have not gone up they have gone down because at times decision making is erratic and unfair.

Take yesterday and the penalty incident – fair enough to hear that it might not have been a penalty – but what the hell was the defender doing raising his arm? Likewise JT got away with the same thing and he was on his feet!

Having said all that – we got our luck too when Bolton had clear chances and couldn’t put them in way – in that sense I am grateful that yesterday things worked out just fine – that’s all that matters until everyone comes back and we go again.

We are not hypocrites – no ABU is going to teach us football at any rate – we can see when things are wrong and rightly have to be punished

However I feel that the officials are still not doing their job properly and that has to be looked into

SAF~ has been made an example of and other managers have said equal or worse in the same time period – Martin Atkinson continues to officiate when he should be serving a ban himself for his incompetent behaviour in a match.

    Everything has to be fair

  79. Kings says:

Rai – Yeah saw that mate. Such a shame he is injury prone, because for me, he is the most complete centre forward. He has great strength, pace, good in the air and can use both feet. I was pleased when we signed him back in January 2004.

Fergie pls ship him out and bring in another. Hopefully no another sicknote like Rio.

  83. FletchTHEMAN says:

Mariner is usually a decent enough ref. Thought he had a rather bad game by comparison. In my view he got 2 very key decisions wrong. First the hand ball was a stone cold penalty that would have had zero complaints. Hand raised beyond all measure. Clearly player looking at the ball and the hand up. No question, it is a penalty.
Second was the sending off. A red requires serious foul play, last man or serious intent. I think most of the interviews post match have agreed the red was very very harsh. It was a 50-50 ball and Jonny got the ball. It was the follow through that caused the injury. Best if Jonny had kept the foot down but not malicious in my view. Jonny is a fantastic footballer whose confidence will not be helped by this. Hope he bounces back.
At the end of the day our thoughts should be with Stewart Holden who at times was Boltons best player on the park by some measure. Stewart came out much the worse for the incident and I think we should all wish him a speedy recovery from what looks a nasty gash. Good luck to him and his manager who seemed to show some class all around. Not usually a Bolton fan, particularly as I view kevin davis as a really dirty piece of work, but they weren’t the thugs of past years. I envy their run in as it is not looking that difficult. In particular I wish them good luck against City in their final match.

  84. Costas says:

I saw the video of Gerrard’s red card at Old Trafford again. If that was a red, I am afraid so is Jonny’s. Gerrard got some of the ball too, but he went in there 2 footed, studs showing.

  85. Gotta hate tiny tears says:

    Costa

Check out the 2 footed stamp tackle that van Persie did yesterday, he won the ball and it rolled into the back of the net to make it 2 nil and everyone was distracted by celibrations but the long and short of it was RVPs tackle could of broke a leg

  86. FletchTHEMAN says:

Gerrards was two footed, straight legged, directly on the foot and lower leg. Maybe harsh as well but I tend to think it was a red. Guess we can disagree.

As to technique, I hope all defenders start to study Smallings challenge that sealed out our last win. Feet on the ground, knew he was going to be hit, got the job done. That was piece of work.

  87. Keanesmagichat says:

No complAints there boys, it maybe was a case of 6 of 1 half a dozen of the other, but onepce ur feet leave the ground ur asking for it. However Holdens feet left the ground too? Douglas costa was at the match yesterday, surely the gaffer will be asked about that in public?

  88. Jorgen says:

This article makes us all just look like a bunch of hypocrits. Evans had an overall bad game and was fully deserved of a red card! To say that the ref is shit after giving a red card here is just silly….

  89. Rai says:

The way they both went into that tackle one of them – or even both – were likely to get hurt. It was 50-50 but it was a very very strong tackle. If someone did that to one of our players we would expect them to be sent off.

  90. FletchTHEMAN says:

It was a red and we all can live with it. Think its fair enough to say it was a 50-50 tackle. Think we don’t look like hypocrits at all.

  91. eplfan says:

If its a 50-50 challenge, dont go studs up, coz if you time it wrong it is going to look real bad for you and hurt real bad for the other guy. Evans has learnt it the hard way, a justified red. Eat the ref head off when he gets a wrong one, but dont shout when he gets one right by comparing it to what he got wrong. That is just short sighted and opportunistic IMO.

    @GHTT, Fletch

Guys, I remember being one of the few in here that thought Stevie Me’s red was harsh. I felt it was a 50-50 challenge and he didn’t know where Carrick was coming from. I was told that it doesn’t matter and that if you go in a tackle 2 footed, you deserve to see red. No matter the outcome.

The point is that we have to be objective about this stuff. If you ask me, I don’t know what should be the correct decision about tackles like that. Sometimes they never cause any damage. GHTT mentioned RVP’s goal as an example.

  98. Rai says:

    Jespermoses-
He isn’t shite. He’s having a bad 18 months but before that we were all raving about him. Look at Nani, we knew he had the talent but it took a while for him to get consistancy…we shouldn’t be harsh on Evans….he’ll come good

  99. eplfan says:

Xyth – Rooney and Terry are of the same breed…that’s why he’s sticking up for him

  104. Nobby says:

Everyone who thinks that Holten and Evans were as bad as each other please watch the video again. You can see that Evans clearly goes in studs first, Holten doesn’t get in the air like Evans and his foot comes from the side. The red card doesn’t need to be debated, because if it was against United then we would want the red card given.

@BjOlav You mention that having video replays won’t clear things up that we are here discussing it even now. Well in a way you’re right, but what makes the difference is that it’ll be a proper official looking at the video. The difference is that when fans watch football is they don’t fully understand the exact wording of the laws of the game like a ref will do. Video replays would give them chance to look at things again.

But then I’m not for using video replays too much in a match, otherwise it would hurt the game of football.

Both players go in with feets raised above the ground, Evans gets the ball, but then he gets the man with his studs a bit up. Leaves me thinking Marriner should have punished Holden aswell, but that is another thing. Vidic will be ready for next game, and perhaps Rafael also if Miss Fortuna is with us. The long break will do us good!

  108. catotraa says:

Please guys, quit the “not a red card” bullshit. Watch that tackle, and imagine Holden beeing the Unitedplayer. You would want a red card! You would not be screaming at Evans for beeing a dirty cunt, like carragher is, but it’s a tackle went wrong and a red.

sad to hear and shows why these challenges need to be red card offences. thats not to say the prem needs to go the way of la liga/serie a.. it should keep its physical side just without the blatently dangerous tackles.

then maybe our skill players wont feel the need to jump in the air when they see a challenge coming in.. people slate the likes of ronaldo/nani for diving but i reckon most(not all) is self preservation

also dont think evans had as bad a game as people on here are making out.. and cant believe anyone thinks hes shite or should be sold! he was solid last season.. a few bad games this season and hes getting written off. wtf? another case of ‘in fergie we trust’ *

  112. united.george says:

When I watched it, I thought he would go for the yellow card, then all the Bolton players were congregating around the ref, shouting and yelling at the tackle. I also wonder if the ref saw the gash since they showed it briefly on TV.

Sometimes players reaction and of course the ref’s personality is what separates a yellow from a red.

When Nani went down, I dont remember all the United players other than Evra talking to the ref or congregating around Nani…..Anyway, I think Evans’ tcackle was a red, I am glad he left the pitch without making a fuss and as a team we took it fairly and moved on.

  113. paksoon says:

Someone caught Evra on his ankle with their studs in the first half. Might have been Cahill. No mention of that though.

  114. Paul Parker says:

Really soft sending off. If a player has any part of his body on the ground going into a tackle he’s running the risk of being caught. Its still a contact sport in this country. To be fair to Evans the ball was on the ground directly infront of the other players knee, and both players went for the ball. Evans could have easily been the one injured if he got to the ball second, instead he was penalised for getting there first. Doubt the other player would’ve got a straight red if HE won the ball and caught Evans. Whatever way you look at it a red card for a 50/50 ball on the ground is a poor decision.

FFS Evans wasn’t even “late” with his challenge and he got worse than Carragher, who was half way up Nani’s leg with the ball on the ground. Shitty decision.

  115. Troy says:

It was a deserved red card. Both players went in hard for the ball but it was Evans who had his studs showing. As many have said, if that had happened to one of our players we would have been fuming.
This was different to the Carragher on Nani tackle…in that situation Carragher wanted to hurt the player.

  116. MG says:

    One more time

    Look it was a red

It was harsh – in real time even the commentators of the game thought it was harsh – no one saw it coming – it only came because the Bolton player had his knee cut open – again I refer you to the blades of the boots in todays day and age – they have a tendency to cut like that so even a 50/50 challenge can become one sided as it did yesterday. In all honesty Holden should have been either carded or sent off himself – again if you follow the letter of the law he went into the challenge on equal terms to Evans – but because he was on the wrong end of the stick the ref had no choice but to punish Evans. Fair enough their is no hypocrisy here – sometimes you get away with it sometimes you don’t.

On goals on Sunday Ben Shephard was being a dick but Chris Kamara and Harry Redknapp put him in his place – they both quite clearly said it was a 50/50 tackle and that it had been blown out of proportion because it was a United player – both gentlemen heard it on the radio and after watching the incident the red card didn’t make sense

Fair enough and I appreciate that – Kamara even went so far as shutting that dick Ben Shephard down and telling him it wasn’t nowhere near as horrendous as people have made it out to be.

Of course it makes it worse with the decisions that have gone against us and the one that went for us with Rooney which sort of like started our run in with the officials. You just want the officials to be fair or at least trying to balance the match to the best of their ability.

When that doesn’t happen that’s when problems start – even yesterday in the Villa match I saw Ashley Young elbow a Wolves player and Dowd the prick saw it and gave it a yellow – that was equal to what Rooney had done – why isn’t no one making a fuss of that?

Standards of officiating has gone down and it is pathetic – that is my point and that has consequences.

  117. Zelh says:

beautiful combination by welbeck and gyan.

  118. Paul Parker says:

Also, it could’ve been CLLC going in for that 50/50 challenge for all I care, I’d consider any player unlucky to get a red for the same challenge. That was never in a million years a straight red card. At the very worst its a yellow and even then its stiil harsh cos its a 50/50 ball.

Do we want players to suddenly stop every time the balls halfway between them and an opponent? Do they flip a coin to see who wins it? 50/50 challenges are part of the game, just like getting injured and being caught. Lets see how many cards are shown for innocuous 50/50 tackles in todays matches.

  124. denton davey says:

Nobby @ 3:08: “The ref was pretty good today”

Well, not really, He simply ignored a handball by Cahill in the penalty area in the 9th (?) minute and then gave Evans a red but ignored the other 50% of the equation by giving Holden nothing – not a thing.

I’ve watched that Incident over and over again on YouTube – same as the video in this thread. Evans gets there first with his foot perpendicular to the ground – i.e,, studs going into the ball; he gets the ball which then squirts off to the side; his momentum carries him into Holden who is also coming in for the ball with his foot perpendicular to the ground (and off the ground). Holden comes off second-best, gets a nasty gash on his knee and the referee seems to take the injury into account rather than apportioning “the blame” 50/50. It was a very weak call from the referee.

So, on the two big incidents of the game, this referee first ignores a clear penalty against Cahill and later gives a red card to Evans for an unfortunate accident while doing nothing about Holden’s equally dangerous challenge.. I don’t see how you can say he was “pretty good”.

  125. wayne says:

talking about bad calls the liverpool penalty.now if you’ve got a guy in a video booth with a direct link to the ref it’ll take seconds to render it was outside the box instead of using some pillock on the sideline who needs his fucking eyes testing.do not understand for one second how that would be a bad thing for football, bring in the same technology as tennis for offsides and ball over the line and get rid of linesmen altogether because their fucking useless

  126. united.george says:

@wayne – great pic….but that man between rio and capello looks hilarious:)

bad penalty award to liverpool, should have been a freekick, but of course the sideline ref called it a penalty….replays show it absolutely was not a penaly but a free kick…..even the ref called it a freekick initially…..there you have it, the standard of officiating!

  127. Paul Parker says:

IMO allowing the Bolton player to remain on the pitch while Evans was dismissed was a very poor decision from the Ref. Firstly you will never see a Chelsea player get a straight red card against us for the same challenge because yesterday was the softest straight red you’ll probably see in the EPL this season. No red for Young yesterday?/Fuck Off. By the rules of the game, jumping in with both feet should result in a card even when there is no contact. Yesterday BOTH players jumped in with feet and with studs showing, so how can the ref (or anybody) justify only one player being sent off under the rules of the game? You can justify it with opinion lads, but not the rules.

Allowing the Bolton player to stay on the pitch means he wasn’t penalised for jumping in with both feet, so if HE wasn’t punished why should Evans be? What did Evans do that the other player didn’t? Cause an injury? This is where punditry and refeering merge into piss poor decisions. Like I said with Carragher, landing studs first halfway up Nani’s leg was the offense NOT the injury to his shin. Even without bone showing it should’ve been a straight red for Carragher. because the rules of the game don’t require referees to judge injuries. FFS the rules are simple, You can get a red card for jumping in with both feet even when you don’t make contact. So based on that and not a wounded knee, sending Evans off while keeping the Bolton lad on is yet another piss poor decision we’ve suffered.

Patrice speaks 5 languages fluently, and he is learning Korean. He is intelligent and committed. In ten years time, could he replace Fergie?

  130. wayne says:

@united.george lol yeah like someone has farted and he’s just getting wind of it.
@smartalex reading the interview its hard to believe evra was ever contemplating leaving the club.

  131. TonyBee says:

Even the scouse wanker Hansen said on Beeb MOTD last night, that both went in with their feet off the ground and Evans got a lot of the ball ….said it was a 50/50 ball and that they were both committed to winning the ball and it should have been yellow cards ….
first time I have ever agreed with the cunt….

  132. Paul Parker says:

    @ Denton

Spot on mate, just posted the same reasoning about that Red Card. Even if we accept 50/50 challenges are being phased out, under the rules of the game Evans didn’t do anything not done to him, but he alone received a straight red. Thats inconsistent to the point of bizarre imo. If it happened the otherway round the ABU Media would all be screaming “Why did Evans stay on the pitch if the Bolton player went???” and to be honest they’d be all be right. Of course, very few people this morning are asking why only Evans was dismissed, but thats a different story.

You’d think after years of dodgy decisions we’d all be used to this but the referees continue to out do themselves with dodgy performances. Meanwhile the FA protects them from all criticism. Funny Old game aye?

  133. wayne says:

i’ve said it before while refs get to play god with no accountability and bad calls are an accepted part of the game something is seriously wrong.

  134. Kings says:

Dean Strauss – Fuck off you racist cunt.

  135. denton davey says:

Nobby @ 12:40: “You can see that Evans clearly goes in studs first, Holten doesn’t get in the air like Evans and his foot comes from the side.”

I took another look and your account just doesn’t square with what I saw. Both players go full-pelt into winning the ball but Evans gets there first – agreed; BUT both players have their “studs up” – i.e., perpendicular to the ground. Evans’ momentum carries through the ball and his foot hits Holden who ends up much the worse for wear.

Even slowing the events down to a frame-by-frame viewing doesn’t change what I saw. AND, as is so often the case, different perspectives/views make the challenges look better/worse.

In this case, though, it’s the referee’s view that matters and when we look at the incident from his position – which was very close to the spot where the challenges occurred – then I am not shifting my account.

On the other hand, if you look at another video replay from the opposite side then it does look like Evans is flying into the challenge with his leg off the ground BUT I haven’t yet heard anyone say that the referee dished out the red card on the advice of one of his assistants.

The referee didn’t have access to video replay and from his vantage-point it’s hard to see how this could be construed as a violent or reckless or dangerous challenge by one player (Jonny Evans) and an innocent party (Stuart Holden).

Like the non-call on the Cahill hand-ball, this was one-eyed officiating. So, I guess that we’ll have to agree-to-disagree.

  136. smartalex says:

wayne, Evra shows his deep understanding of the club. He is an intelligent, emotional man who has studied United and lived United. Unlike many who blindly or immaturely declare undying love, Patrice has grown to love and respect the everything that is United. His story that he tells frustrated youths is a personal experience that made him a true United fan.

Read the interview. After warming up for 80 minutes in the FA Cup final…
I thought, “Maybe this is a test. This is life at United. You cannot expect to always be in the team”. It is something I tell the younger players. I tell them that story.’

  137. theboogeyman says:

Having seen the replay, I think Holden should have got the same punishment as Evans, like denton davey said. Just because he got hurt, and don’t get me wrong, I want him to be okay and playing again ASAP, but he made as bad a challenge as Jonny, he just got the worst of it.

jespermoses- Evans always shite? Bollocks. He was brilliant filling in for Rio during our last title victory.

  138. theboogeyman says:

smartalex, wayne- I love Evra. He is absolutely in love with our club. He will never leave I think.

Moving on, really happy to see Berbatov get the winner and run off laughing. The ABU Press would love to see a bust up between him and Alec over selection. Can’t ever see that happening, Berbatov knows his place at United. He’s important for us and offers something neither Wayne or Hernandez do.

Also enjoyed watching Nani running into the box to get on the end of the ball for a change! He’s been carrying the ball forward for so long but with Valencia back effective as ever we can remind ourselves what a good finisher Nani is. Brilliant seeing them both back in the team.

  140. Alpha_RS says:

I’ve watched the challenge again and both players left the ground. Evans left the ground first. I think whoever came out injured from that incident the other person would have got sent off. Why not just stay on your feet. Evans is not a dirty player but he shouldn’t be making challenges like that. Especially with the problems we are having in central defence at the moment.

Paul Parker @ 14:43: “You’d think after years of dodgy decisions we’d all be used to this but the referees continue to out do themselves with dodgy performances. Meanwhile the FA protects them from all criticism.”

This is very astute – the FA “protects them from all criticism”. James Lawton said something similar a few days ago in The Independent with regard to the shitstorm surrounding SAF’s comments about Martin Atkinson – and then his refusal to be baited after he was slammed by the FA for “bringing the game into disrepute” or some such malarky.

I live in Toronto which is the epicenter of the ice hockey universe so we hear all about the way that that game is officiated. It’s actually done in a way that conforms to the available technology. After the game, videos are reviewed in the head office by the Masters of Discipline and fines/suspensions are then doled out. To my mind, the ice hockey arbiters are far too easy-going in terms of doling out serious fines/suspensions for serious offences but at least there is an attempt to try to maintain some standards.

In baseball, too, umpires are consistently monitored. In both sports, video technology is used to maintain consistency in officiating which is a quite different matter from the way it’s employed in the NFL where the game is stopped for several minutes as the frame-by-frame evidence is reviewed.

By and large, I’m not in favour of the NFL’s method because it slows up an already-ponderous event whereas the ice hockey and baseball methods are willing to allow some leeway for in-game decision-making while still trying to maintain consistency in the way the rules are applied.

In contrast, the FA’s absolute stone-walling – both in regards to video technology and overseeing refereeing incompetence – and its refusal to allow managers “to speak truth to power” actually ends up bringing the game into disrepute.

When ostrichs stick their heads in the sand, they expose their arse for all to see – same goes for the FA and, indeed, FIFA who are the powers behind the throne at Lancaster Gare. It’s just shambolic – this is no longer an amateur’s game played by gentlemen but, rather, a huge entertainment enterprise played by professionals but adjudicated by amateurs who may – or may not – be gentlemen.

  143. Kings says:

What a horrible cheating cunt that Suarez is. He runs across Mensah, then falls down clutching his ankle trying to get the referees attention. Then Merieles taps him across the waist as if to congratulate him, then that goofy little cunt grins at him. Fucking cunt.

I guess Rooney lacerated his own leg back in 2007 then…Nothing to do with Carragher.

  157. Paul Parker says:

    @ Denton Davey.

Exactly mate, the technology has always been there in other sports. Im in favour of retrospective decisions so incidents like Carragher’s and CLLC (handball) can be punished after the game. That policy would reduce offenses without slowing the game down like NFL adjudicating does. I prefer the idea of more linesmen around the pitch and a panel to review the game. Recently saw a CL decision where the extra Linesmen rightly called for a foul/offside/can’t remember without slowing down the game. That was the first time I’ve ever seen them get involved, and they made the right call.

Back to the EPL, they tell us reluctance to reform officialdom and insistence on punishing dissenters has nothing to do with corruption. In the most lucrative league in the world? Yeah fucking right. A small pool of refs take the big games every weekend; they’re above reproach and have the final say on every single decision; they even decide who is punished after the game and who isn’t based on their report. What does that leave us with? A game cleary open to abuse and seriously in need for reform. Although it might take a scandal to make it happen, like a suicidal ref found swinging under Blackfriars Bridge in a Chelski shirt. I think the game needs goal line techonology, a few extra linesmen not afraid to blow their whistle, and a dubious decision panel to judge offenses missed by the ref and his team. None of that would negatively impact the game if anything it would improve it, but I guess legislating for fairness is low on the FA’s agenda.

  158. nani4ever says:

i personaly had no problems with the ref yesterday, the red card was a 50-50 decision it could have went both ways.

  159. smartalex says:

How many red card tackles has Carra made. Well, he admits that Nani was the worst.
So any loserpool fan that claims it shouldn’t have been red, can be told that Carra disagrees with them. He admits it was his worst, ergo he admits he should have been red carded.

  160. YorYor says:

    @theboogeyman
Great pic! Papers should show that image to show all those ABUs to stop the nonsense about Holden being the victim. Looking at that, I guess I’d take the red card over a potential career-threatening injury. Hope Holden comes out fine, otherwise Evans would be the talk of the town for the next 2 eons.

  161. mattbw7 says:

    eplfan says:
@mattbw7 if you think both had studs up and you didnt see holden pull off coz he knew it was getting dangerous while evans went for it anyway… well, then you better get your eyes checked! duh!!

Ok so Holdens right boot wasnt swinging with studs up, go and fuck yourself, Holden bottled it and if anything was late, Evans cleared the ball there can be no question of that, the injury was sustained afterwards caused by the forward momentum of both players, nothing malicious it happens.

  162. smartalex says:

mattbw7, eplfan admitted that he is new to the game. Why he is so rude to people that know so much, and take the time to advise him, I don’t understand. I guess he has personal issues today.

  163. Toby says:

It was a 50/50 plain and simple, yes evans had his studs up, but so did the other guy, watch it a second before they clash! If it was Evans that got injured, the other guy would have been sent off.

What about that tackle on Evra that didnt even get a foul in the first half?

    Refs are shit.

  164. StatesideAussie says:

I guess I don’t have any complaints about the decision — I agree with those who say that if Evans had been the one who got hurt, we’d have expected the other guy to get a red. Strictly speaking, both players were at fault — or neither was. They both went off their feet, and at exactly the same time. The major difference is that Holten was maybe a bit closer to the ball when he went off his feet, though it was running away from him a bit. But neither player had control of the ball, and both went off their feet, which means it’s always going to be a lottery whether someone gets hurt.

  165. smartalex says:

With regard to our non existent dead ball experts, I think that the ball should be rolled back to Nani on freekicks. He then fires the moving ball goalwards.

  166. Doghouse says:

I think it should have been a red, and ideally it should always be a red. Lot of people are annoyed, rightly so, by the inequality of enforcement of the rules but all things considered I do think tackles like that ought to removed from the game.

A lot of players talk about liking to see defenders get stuck in and things like that, but there’s a line. Getting stuck in was the fantastic Cahill challenge on Berbatov (credit where it’s due), but I think Evans crossed the line. I mean we like to see a physical game, everybody does, but we like to see a skilled game, we like to see a game played by the first choice players in our club. If the referees decide that a studs up challenge is fair play in a 50/50 then sure, guys like Evans who I think didn’t mean much harm will not be sent off, but also scum like Carragher and Terry will see every 50/50 ball as the chance to put a player out of action and get away with it.

I think the referee made the right call, and I think if that standard was uniformly enforced it would be better for the English game. End of the day I find it funny that fans here, given the injury list we’ve got, would think the English game needs to be more physical than it already is, especially as Nani very nearly had his leg broken. Just how many players are we willing to sacrifice on the altar of the physical game?

  167. Alpha_RS says:

    @smartalex
I think United have problems with corners and free kicks.
How many times have United scored from a corner this season?
Have United scored directly from a free kick this season?
It all sounds pretty poor by United’s standards.

  168. MyCowIsTheBest says:

StatesideAussie yes i agree with you 100%. At the end of the day, i am happier that Evans was on the red-card-end, not the injury-end. Having said that, i dont mean that i am happy with Holden getting injured. I hope he recovers soon.

But there are also other possibilities. What if both players got injured, or both players escape any injury? That is why, like somebody else said, the red card was issued because the other player got injured. It was not for the tackle, because both of them committed the same kind of tackle.

  169. StatesideAussie says:

@SmartAlex and Alpha_RS … we’ve had problems with crosses generally. Tony V’s return has helped a bit. Although I think Nani has had a super season, his crosses, corners and free-kicks have generally been underwhelming.

  170. smartalex says:

Alpha_RS, we do have a problem with the dead ball. Perhaps everyone realises they are far behind Ronnie, and their confidence is shot. I don’t know.

This is why I want to roll the ball to Nani, who can score from anywhere in open play.

  172. theboogeyman says:

YorYor- Shockingly enough I linked to the Daily Mail. The caption there reads Evans’ horror tackle or something though. So, there you go.

wayne- Exactly. Don’t know how people can doubt his loyalty at all!

  173. smartalex says:

Ditto StatesideAussie, ditto. Consider this…I love it when Nani cuts inside (either wing) and shapes to shoot from a distance. He has scored some of the best United goals this way. We need him in that frame of mind at the dead ball, so rolling it correctly may achieve this. He then goes onto auto-pilot, and scores!

    Make sense?

  174. StatesideAussie says:

@MyCowIsTheBest … yeah, though if the card really was issued because someone actually got hurt, that would be a little bizarre. After all, “actual injury” is not mentioned anywhere in the rules. And it is possible for players to get seriously injured in a tackle that is perfectly legit. Conversely, a red card can be issued even if no-one is hurt, even momentarily. Really, the referee ought not be taking injury into account. That’s where the Evans/Holden incident gets murky, and that’s why there’s argument about it, because under the rules, you could certainly argue that both players were reckless, and that both engaged in dangerous play — if Evans had stayed on his feet, for example, and Holden had clattered into him, the Bolton lad could well have seen a yellow or red (and Evans might have been one who was hurt). But, in the end, I’m not going to bitch about it.

  175. Joel says:

I don’t remember us scoring a single direct free-kick this season. Our indirect free-kicks and corners are immensely frustrating too, half the time we probably don’t even beat the first man.

Townsend on Torres ‘ He is certainly getting better, you can just see the signs ‘

Yes Andy, pay 50 million and wait 12 months for the player to some form…. Idiot

  244. Kings says:

Costas@18.00 – I concur mate. Put the cunts out of their misery. Hopefully we’ll destroy their morale before that in the European Cup Quarter-Final.

  245. Joel says:

Can anyone explain to me why the cheating cunt Luiz is called Sideshow Bob?

  246. CedarsDevil says:

I will be the FIRST to congratulate you mate! lol

  247. smartalex says:

MyCowIsTheBest, it will be posthumous congratulations, unless I’m quick enough to save you from the angry mob.

  248. CedarsDevil says:

    Joel

His hair looks exactly like that of Side Show Bob, the character from the Simpsons

  249. Passe says:

    Joel:
Sigh… Welcome to the Internets, mate.

  250. smartalex says:

How did you do that Kings?

  251. Sir Ryan Giggs says:

    @ passe: haha quality mate.

  252. MyCowIsTheBest says:

i think the system detected Costas@18.00 as an email address haha

  253. Mattbw7 says:

Well as the great man says it’s squeaky bum time, the international break should help us get vida back and hopefully rafael and I’m more than if Smalling played the season out add in the fact we’re getting all our attacking players back and I’m confident we’ll be getting the title we all want and there’s nothing to fear in the cup games ahead. Come on you reds almost there.

  254. Joel says:

Should have thought of googling it! Thanks

  255. wayne says:

i can’t even watch andy townsend hate his fucking voice want to pound that fucking nose in,don’t even remember him as a player fucking nobody.
any chance of mancini being fired made some piss poor signings, dzeko is a donkey way out of his class that cunt is championship quality.

  256. smartalex says:

Subliminal messaging, or just a red herring?

  257. fergie is the boss says:

got to ask everyone, when did townsend become such an anus with the ROM fans, nhe just seemed 2 be someone who just stated the boring obvious

  258. smartalex says:

townsend hates United! He is a cunt, and has earned the hatred of decent men.

  259. CedarsDevil says:

    FITB

He is an annoying twat who hates United with a passion. Personally I have had a few arguments with the cunt during phone ins

  260. fergie is the boss says:

CedarsDevil – never have espn so his true colors have shown. United are like the devil, its just naturel 2 hate united lols and the media and pundits are like a bunch of depserate christians

  261. Kings says:

Sorry guys forgot to space it, that’s why it formed as hyperlink! Townsend is a bitter cunt because Fergie never signed him in the early 90′s. Another wise decision from the great man.

  262. The Big Red says:

dunno if this has been discussed somewhere on this thread….
i still feel chelsea’s our strongest threat for the league title. arsenal will be arsenal, they will drop points here and there. but chelsea’s a different kettle of fish. they know how to grind out wins and their form has been on an upswing. they have momentum and we have a tough fixture list. add to that the fact that somehow the pendulum always swings in their favor in recent encounters….

  263. CedarsDevil says:

    FITB

Do not have ESPN either mate, I get the twat on PLTV

  264. MUFCOK says:

I dont think those types of tackles should be red cards, but in todays game there is no question it was a red, but whats pissed me off is it was nowhere near as bad as carraghers tackle on Nani yet the scouse shit didnt get sent off?

and people say the refs / FA favour us…. fucking joke.

  265. MyCowIsTheBest says:

i am spreading the David Luiz – Sideshow Bob relation. haha.

it’s in Malay language anyway.. :p

  266. denton davey says:

SmartAlex @ 17:04: “The game at the bridge is pathetic. Anyone would think their seasons are over.”

ManShitty were going for the draw; no “amibtion” All they want is fourth place and the CL next year – wouldn’t it be just wonderful to see Spurs pip them at the post again May ?

RentBoyz bossed the game and were, by far, the stronger team – and the better team. While CSKALondon is still nine points adrift with a game in hand but a slightly inferior goal-difference, things are shaping up for some ding-dong confrontations with them in the next six weeks. The RentBoyz seem to have regained their mojo, which got lost for about three months. DavidLuiz is a great addition to their squad; TheLadyBoy was a luxury expenditure who seems to be a shadow of his former self. In fact, sell TheLadyBoy and buy Chicharito ! What’s a hundred million ?

  267. CedarsDevil says:

    denton davey

Great and witty post as usual mate….

  268. wayne says:

don’t see the rentboys as a threat take care of business at ot its all over, their other away games are at stoke, west brom and everton,

  269. NotoriousRedDevil says:

We don’t know when the Newcastle game is being rearranged for but for now we only have 1 away game until we play l’arse that will suit us nicely. I fully expect l’arse to drop points either against the dippers but more than likely Spurs. We should beat West Ham as Vidic is going to miss the internationals now and will be fir for that game. Smalling needs to stay fit as do Evra and a couple of others but come April all our midfield and attacking options should be back except Hargreaves of course.

  270. wayne says:

right now utd have a +7 goal diff means rentboys have to run the table and utd to drop 7 pts in 8 games, that would be a total collapse, rentboys are not going to go 100% anyway

  271. CedarsDevil says:

    wayne

But Townsend thinks the rentboys will win all their remaining games! What do we know in front of the expert himself?

  272. smartalex says:

Denton Davey, Chicharito has scored with nearly every body part he has, meanwhile the ladyboy only scores in the shower.

  273. CedarsDevil says:

    smartalex

    With JT you mean?

  274. wayne says:

@Cedars its all bollocks need something to talk about, spurs are still battling for cl spot so they won’t lie down, everton and stoke away are no gimmes anyway all utd have to do is beat them at ot game over.
then put the cunts out of cl how sweet would that be.

  275. Dimitar Berbatov is King says:

City bottled it. At this rate they could even finish 5th..

Chelsea on the ascendancy, but they aren’t back to their dominating best.

So it falls to us to win every game, or die trying.

  276. smartalex says:

Exactly CedarsDevil! Torres never misses when lined up with TT’s butt.

  277. denton davey says:

SmartAlex @ 19:09: ” the ladyboy only scores in the shower.”

bending over for the soap ?

  278. wayne says:

also the international break will work out ok for utd,we have alot of players either injured or retired so gives the squad a chance to back to full strength and rested were as most of the chelsea team will be on international duty.

  279. smartalex says:

    Exactly denton davey!

In the shower, Terry says “where’s the soap?”
Torres replies “It does wear the soap out, is there no more?

  280. CedarsDevil says:

    smartalex

Do you think Drogba takes part too? Is it open to an orgy or is it merely limited to duos?

  281. smartalex says:

    Ménage à trois?

A menagerie of twats? 3 knobs and a broomstick?

Diddlier dogbreath style? Quite likely, now that Vanessa Perroncel is a bridge too far.

  287. smartalex says:

Kings U nited Costas. He is now a Red Knight! Take over the world, Costas!

  288. james21 says:

From East stand Tier 2 it looked like a 50 50 I couldn’t believe he got sent off.
Holden came off worse and I do wish him a speedy recovery but the ref definately got it wrong. Anyone know if Utd intend to appeal?

  289. Costas says:

    @united.george

That sounds nice. And I even have better hair than him. :)

    @Cedars

    Sorry. Couldn’t help it, lol.

    @NBI

Oh, thanks for the heads up pal. I’ll make sure who I trust from now on. ;)

  290. Costas says:

    @smartalex

That’s a smart play of words there. Justified your name, lol. Unlike certain other Red Knights, I’ll always be here for you lads. ;)

  291. smartalex says:

Mr Mancini might have done himself in. Although, he’s probably used to abject failure.

  292. Paul Parker says:

Tevez was saved because we are their Cup. Injured or not if it was us he would have played. City are a poor barometer for anything. Lets just wait and see what the Pensionners do with Tony and Nani on the same pitch running in from either side.

Scholes dominated at the bridge, all we needed was a stronger bench to replace him. This time round we’ll have Ando and Park back on the pitch in addition to Giggs Carrick and Fletcher. Alec will probably have the best choice of midfielders he’s had all season. Rio out is a blow and shows his importance but thankfully Vidic will be back to do what he’s been doing all season. Smalling’s unlucky penalty was his first big fuck up but his form stayed consistent so credit due. I’d expect him to do well deputising alongside the Captain. We know Rafaels quick to red mist but for the Rent Boys im sure Alec will lay the law down, our RW is different class when he keeps his cool. Evra’s performances have been improving as the seasons gone on and he hates the Rent Boys, I’d back him for a top performance on the night. Up front Berbatov Rooney and Hernandez all pose threats from all angles, which brings us right back to the two best Wingers in the League…

God Willing everybodys fit, we’re gonna finally end that fucking run they’ve had at the Bridge.

  293. Costas says:

  297. FletchTHEMAN says:

Chavs 2 – Council 0. Aside from all the london hysteronics that must be endured for the next fortnight, I do believe this result suits us. Since City where closer numerically, a win would have put them up to 56points and given them some type of belief. Somehow, belief from city is rather more unbearable. As it it is a tie would have still put one of the two on 54 points. As long as they have themselves to worry about, they will view their seasons as a fight for 4th spot. Don’t know if you lot will agree.

  298. smartalex says:

And I sincerely respect you CedarsDevil Respectable and respected, that’s us!

  299. TonyBee says:

    Cedars and Smartalex….hee hee….lovers?

  300. TonyBee says:

yes he’s back to take the piss……….

  301. smartalex says:

FletchTHEMAN, hi mate! I think ‘Title’ wise, the result that suited us was a draw.
I think ‘Implosion’ wise, city failing to qualify for europe will be the spark that lights the fuse.
Coming soon , near a Theatre to you!

  302. TonyBee says:

    Mutual………the mind boggles…. :P

  303. Costas says:

Is it confirmed that Tevez is out for 4 weeks. I suddenly realized that we may never face him again. :(

  304. TonyBee says:

tevez is out cos his scar neck festered

  305. smartalex says:

Floats in like a butterfly, stings like TonyBee! Good evening! Fear not, no bum rap here.

  306. FletchTHEMAN says:

    Update on Stewart Holden,
Reports say he needed 26 stitches in hospital and will be out of contention for the 2 international friendlies where he was expected to feature for the yanks. He is also quoted in other sources as accepting Jonny Evans apologies and holding nothing against our CB. Fair play to the lad.

    Speedy recovery to you Stuart.

@Costas, Thanks for the link to the Pogba goal. Can’t seem to pull up links to any of the U18 games so it is always appreciated. Cheers.

@Smartalex Cheers as well. I agree, just saying that baring a tie, this was the best result. Watching Sh*ty slip is always a pleasure to be sure. Ha ha !

  307. NBI Red Onion says:

I have to say Chelsa seem revived and stronger now, I wish we had had our game with the when it was scheduled as they were tanking then.

Luiz seems a great buy, he is a fantastic player and will create problems for all teams, I mean the guy is a CB and has scored more than Drogba and Torres over the same period.

We have three really tough games against Chelsea and a tough game away to Arsenal, as well as a hard semi final against City. Any mistakes and we could be out of the running for three trophies.

Personally this year I would take focusing on the premier league over the other two. once we get to 19 we can go forward all guns blazing on the lot, but I really think it is so finely balanced right now, and with out injuries and wierd midfield, we really need to just focus on the league. For my money, I would take No 19 over another Champions League or FA cup.

I was looking at Arsenal’s run in, Tott and us aside they have games they should comfortably win and I think Tott cannot beat the because their style has the edge over tott when the two play.

Unfortunately, Chelase and just focused on champions league, Aresenal on League and City on FA cup, so we have 3 really tough battles. Come on Vidic. Come back Rio. We need u. Also we need Anderson and Park, Park is pretty decent as a central midfielder, he played there for Korea.

  308. james21 says:

    @Fletch
I was a bit pissed when Spurs drew against W/ Ham. I want to see Shitty looking constantly over their shoulders. Today that draw meant Spurs have pulled 1 point closer to the scumbags.
I still would have preferred a draw today but Its always nice to see the Project crumble even better than Richard Madeleys sour Italian face.

I’m just getting through the post on here and it seams we are split with the Evans Red Card. I still can’t believe tha Evra challenge and the Blatent Hand Ball went unpunished.

  309. CedarsDevil says:

    Kisses to you Tony Bee

  310. TonyBee says:

have sent Tevez a poultice for his neck ….old fashioned remedy….mustard, shit and piss…..
    cure fester neck no probs

  311. smartalex says:

Never scarface him again? Perhaps if he stuck his neck out, we could find a snappy solution?

  312. TonyBee says:

    hiya Cedars

  313. Kings says:

Fucking cunts talking about Chelsea having an easy run-in, they still have to go to United and Everton. Hopefully we will smash them cunts at Old Trafford and Saha will be back for Everton to turn them over. I heard that fucking cunt Atkinson will be the FA Cup Final referee.

  314. CedarsDevil says:

    Hiya TonyBee mate

  315. smartalex says:

So atkinson gets the FA cup as his reward! Sickens me to my stomach.

  316. Kings says:

They say that cheats sometimes prosper.

  317. Costas says:

    @FletchTHEMAN

You are welcome. Just founded myself. I think a few of us forgot about the game yesterday amongst all the Berba craziness. :)

    @Kings

I feel that Chelsea’s run in will play a role only if we lose at the Emirates. If we even get a point out of that game, then (hopefully) even a win for them at OT won’t be enough.

The worry for me is the games that get postponed. Newcastle and (if we make it to the FA cup final), Blackburn away. It will make for a very hectic schedule.

  318. CedarsDevil says:

    Kings

    seems they always do mate

  319. Costas says:

What? Atkinson to ref the final? Makes sense. Chelsea won’t be in it, so he will be unbiased.

This is really a slap in the face for United and Ferguson in particular. Not only they didn’t punish him, but they rewarded him like that…

  320. FletchTHEMAN says:

@James, I agree, the ref was a problem again. I said this several hours ago and got creamed by the pro red card lobby. It was a 50-50 challenge with no ill intent and perfectly reasonable technique. The ref responded to the severity of the result, not the act itself. Others will disagree but they will just have to take it that I am with our CB on this. That said, I feel that there is little United can do to reverse the decision and would risk an additional game ban if they got overturned.

Alvin Martin saying the sending off was harsh (Talk Sport) The list is growing.

  321. smartalex says:

I hope we win the FA Cup, accept all the medals, but decline to take the Cup.
Celebrate as normal in every way, except the cameras will keep cutting back to the cup.

At the following Managers press conference, Sir Alex announces that we may defend the cup next year, or not. We know when we’re not wanted.

If Manchester United don’t care for the cup, it will die. The FA know that.
They will keep right off our toes.

  322. denton davey says:

Costas @ 21:11: “Atkinson to ref the final? Makes sense. Chelsea won’t be in it, so he will be unbiased. This is really a slap in the face for United and Ferguson in particular. Not only they didn’t punish him, but they rewarded him like that.”

    Exactly.

  323. geneside says:

    well said costas..
hopefully we are not gonna see the biased martin atkinson, but we are certainly gonna see him sad.as his favourite club will not be in the final..poor fellow..

  324. Kings says:

Costas – Makes no difference mate. He’s a Leeds fan, so he will still look to fuck us over. He was the same cunt who denied us a stonewall penalty in our Home FA Cup Quarter-Final against Portsmouth in 2008 when Distin barged Ronaldo in the box. If that decision went our way, then Ronaldo would have dispatched it and we would have won the treble that season, there is absolutely no doubt in mind.

  325. slim says:

Fucking Atkinson for the final ? Bollocks

My opinion on the Evans tackle is a red, Its simple if that was on Rooney or Hernandez we’d be screaming Murder.

    @Costas

old post but i think Pogba should be in the squad for next season. i pray we don’t muck him about in the reserves and U-Whatever. League and cup appearances is what the boy needs, him and a couple of others;tuni or ravel. The boy looks like he’s in his own world which is out of this world, Awesome stuff

  326. james21 says:

    @Fletch
Holden was their best player yesterday and if Evens had backed out Holden would have gone through on goal People on here would have unfairly crucified him had Bolton scored. There was no intention to injure Holden in the challenge at all ,I’ve watched it over and over again and all I see is an accident and he won the ball. This challenge was nowhere on the same level as Carraghers.

  327. denton davey says:

How about Don Fabio’s man-management skills ? On a par with Martin Atkinson’s ability to be both strong and fair ??

  328. King Eric says:

Evening all. Slim. The three you mentioned and josh king will get first team action next year. Sources around the club honestly believe we have a class of 92 on our hands again. Wow.

If howard webb is regarded as englands top referee and has reffed a world cup final, albeit badly, he should ref the fa cup final. Why the fuck has that leeds fan scum atkinson been given it despite the fa knowing damn well united have problems with him and fergies current over the top ban is down the cunt. Beggars belief. It really fucking does.

City fans wishing broken legs and shit on barry and the poor mans crouch dzeko. Ha ha. They are shite. As are milner fat cunt toure and so on and so on. I have never seen such pathetic negative tactics from a side that reckons its close to united. Yeah course they are. United down to ten men and still attacked going for a win you cannot buy that. As fergie said the character is superb.

As for the rentboys or arsenal I reckon chelsea will finish second. Arsenal haven’t an easy run at all. The dippers. Spurs away. Bolton away I think. Fulham. Stoke. A tough run actually and they are weak. Yesterday and sunderland at home were their banker games and they only took two points. Chelsea have left their resurgence too late. They still loolk shite anyway and aside from cheating or set pieces they struggle to score goals. All this talk of torres looking good is absolute bollocks. He looks exactly like he did the last year and half at the dippers. He isn’t the same player. I know class is permanent but he hasn’t had a good game in nearly two years. Lost his pace as well. Luiz looks a good footballer and good on the ball BUT I am still not convinced by his defending. He has caught people by surprise but I feel he will get found out. Teams will get used to his bucaneering forward runs and expose him as a weakness. He looks like a red card or pen wating to happen. Good to watch though. They still have no width and with the loss of luiz as well for the champions league games I think over two legs we will do the bastards. Anyway back to the league. No I honestly think we are too experienced to throw it away now but we must get something in our away matches. They are four games we should be able to win or certainly two or three or them.

  329. Costas says:

    @slim

I will agree. He has to stay because he, Tunni and Ravel have to start playing league cup games. In recent seasons, Fergie has used this competition to give some match practice to his fringe players, but I feel that it’s time we used some of these kids. There’s no harm in that. And who knows? Maybe one of them might surprise Fergie to the point that he starts using them more regulary.

    @Kings

Yeah, I forget about that game. Not the game itself, but about the referee. I do know that Atkinson has never awarded us a penalty. That ca’t be coincidence. We just have to count ouselves lucky that he won’t be in charge of the semi. Because this is the real final I feel.

  330. King Eric says:

Oh I meant to say. I won’t hold my breath but I just have a sneaky feeling owen hargreaves will have a say on our run in.

  331. james21 says:

    @King Eric
Was Hargreaves on the bench yesterday? They never announced the teams yesterday and I’ve still not seen MOTD. There was talk of it.

  332. Kings says:

King Eric – Evening mate. Great post. Yeah we’ve got some top players in the reserves who will make it next season, coupled with the return of Cleverley and Welbeck. Future’s looking good for United.

I heard Atkinsons appointment on our favourite show this morning. I’m not sure if it’s a definite, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it is the case. He is a fucking cheating cunt who seems to be rewarded for it. I remember that D’urso cunt being demoted for an inept performance before, so why the fuck is this bastard exempt from it? As I have said time and time again, when Wenger vented his spleen over Poll after their defeat to Newcastle in 2002, he was relieved from officiating at Highbury for 3 seasons. The FA know of our displeasure with this cunt, yet they still want him involved in our games – assuming of course we make the final, which I sincerely hope we do – like you say mate, it beggars belief.

City are a joke from top to bottom. That bitter cunt Summerbee giving it large about how close they are to United after he claimed they dominated us at Old Trafford, yet they park the bus at Stamford Bridge hoping to nick a draw, showing absolutely no ambition going forward. That cheesy scarf wearing cocksucker Mancini will be binned at the end of the season. He is a weak man who has no respect from any of his players. He has an ugly little troll who shows him nothing but utter contempt, especially when he is substituted and a nutcase who cannot even put a bib on and does his utmost to get away from a football pitch, by fair means or foul.

Chelsea will probably nick second spot. There seems to be similarities with this season and 2008 – Arsenal think they have a great chance to win the title only to implode at the vital stages of the season, dropping points in games they are expected to win, allowing Chelsea to sneak in. Let’s remember that Chelsea also won at Stamford Bridge in 2008 with a late dubious penalty. Chelsea are an awful side who we were robbed against. We should take care of them at Old Trafford, especially with the return of Valencia and the rest of our players to come back from injury. Transexual cannot hit a barn door and David Luiz will get his long overdue red card, he is an accident waiting to happen.

I said to myself if get through the Bolton game with a win, then we are almost there, as we now have a two week break and by that time our injured key players will make timely recoveries for the run in.

  333. NotoriousRedDevil says:

@ james21 No Hargreaves on bench yesterday. Bench was PIG, Fabio, Gill. Owen, Park, Gibson and Berbatov. With Hargreaves have to see it to believe it. If we carry on with defensive injuries I think we’ll play him. Why the fuck not his contracts up in the summer so we have nothing to lose and everything to gain.

  334. mattbw7 says:

I really hope I get a ticket for the chance to be there when we hopefully end Citehs last chance of a tin pot this year and theres still a chance they could finish fifth, does anyone think that could happen?

  335. King Eric says:

James21. Hello mate. No they didn’t announce the team did they. Did they even play this is the one? I saw the team on a previous thread. No hargreaves wasn’t on bench but hoped he would be as fergie said he had trained well. A couple more weeks and he may be on the bench or even try to start. Just hope it lasts longer than his wolves appearance.

  336. NotoriousRedDevil says:

I love the optimism on here for our game vs chelski at OT in the league but I can’t see it myself. Our home form has been impeccable all season but I can’t count on anything in games vs chelski anymore. Too suspicious on how we keep getting fucked over by officials in those games. Champions League should be a different story but if we get ref who is a clown like the one in the Marseille game then God only knows what will happen.

@ King Eric – This Is The One wasn’t played, no team was announced. They (thankfully) didn’t play the X-Factor version of Take Me Home either. All in all I thought that was bizarre.

  337. Doghouse says:

    @King Eric

As long as he says something other than, “Ow my [insert name of body part here]” next time he plays I’ll be happy.

  338. prasan_UTDfan4life says:

Cheers fellas…I post rarely over here but I am a regular visitor to this wonderful blog!!! In my opinion, this is the best place to be as a United fan on internet!!! As far as the remaining fixtures are concerned, I just feel that we have enough in our tank to get no. 19 and with a lot of key players hopefully returning from injuries after the international break…we should be in a good position to get over the finishing line first!!!

    @King Eric
Your posts are always great mate as through you we get to know what’s going on with our reserves. The excitement around Pogba, Tunnicliffe and Morrison is building up and up by each passing day and I cant wait to see them being a part of the first team fold! Though, I’d like to know from you about the progress of Oliver Norwood…Had heard he’s deadly from free kicks and his conversion rate is brilliant..Heard some comparisons with David Beckham as well in terms of set-piece ability! Would really appreciate if you could enlighten me more about the lad!!! :-)

  339. Tschousen says:

    Sorry mates
But it’s just not honest to claim stevie me’s red (against us in the FA cup) was fair and evans’ wasn’t

  340. mattbw7 says:

Tschousen Evans went for and got the ball, have a look at Steve me’s tackle again and tell me if you see the same thing

  341. james21 says:

    MATTBW7
Me too. I’ll be applying anyway. Just hope they don’t bring the Carling Cup into it as I opt out.
Hopefully they’ll be 3 trips to Wembley this season with 3 wins.

    @King Eric and Kings
Great posts and great sense of humour there. Keep it up. :D

  344. smartalex says:

Friends! My apologies! You are liars.

How to make friends and lose them immediately!

  345. james21 says:

    Tschousen
You’ve really got to be kidding. It was nothing like Gerrards. Gerrard has been getting away with those for years and finally got what he deserved. Evans in my opinion was a total accident.

  346. King Eric says:

Cheers lads. Superb post kings. Yes it does sound like we are licking each others arses. We are infact the same person and by patting myself on the back it massages my ego. Yeah mate just watching sunday supp now. That fat cunt costis looks and sounds like an even fatter vic reeves. Was carrick picked by the ingerlund clown? Hope not. Let him play barry.

Mattbw. Hello pal. Yes I do think city could finish fifth but then again spurs will probably bottle it. I hope its spurs in fourth as I cannot sit through city games. They are terrible. They have no momentum at present and have only took eight points from twenty one. The players look tired and disinterested. Yaya cannot even get about the pitch. He just jogs along waving his arms about. Mancini plays with THREE defensive midfielders for fuck sake! Milner looks like a builder. He is shite. One trick pony and he doesn’t have ANY tricks. Think it could all go horribly wrong for them. They do amuse me.

  347. Costas says:

Carrick wasn’t picked by Capello. So he will be fresh for the West Ham game…

  348. King Eric says:

Prasan. Hello mate. To be honest I aren’t a big fan of norwood. He is a good little player but nothing special in my opinion. He can pass the ball well and take a good free kick but he just seems to let the game pass him by. Carlisle weren’t even that impressed by all accounts.

  349. King Eric says:

Costas. Cheers mate. So he has gone with Barry then. Idiot.

  350. Costas says:

    @King Eric

Yeah and surprisingly, he’s gone with Jarvis instead of Adam Johnson. Oh well, who cares? I just hope Rio retires soon.

  351. smartalex says:

surely there is something going on here….

  353. dannysoya says:

King eric i don’t see that as a bad thing. It slashes his odds of picking up a horrendous injury leaivng him fresh for west ham like Costas said and besides who wants to play for England anyways. Playing for England is more of a punishment than something to be proud of.

    @King Eric

Thanks for the update on Norwood mate. :-)

After the match, read some stories on Douglas Costa being there in the directors box. Do you guys think he really is what we need? He’s a talented lad no doubt but as of now, does not seem to possess the frame to cope up with the physical nature of English football. And, the biggest question is would Costa add something which we already dont have in our 3 bright prospects from the reserves (Pogba, Tunni and Morrison). Or is it that Scholesy has decided not to continue further and hang up his boots at the end of the season? It’s an interesting one this and I’m sure Sir Alex would get it right as always..though a class of 2011 would be what I’d love to see along with an able replacement for VDS, once the season ends!!!

  359. RedSea says:

    @smartalex,

The Evans tackle is much worse than the Carragher’s one. And for sure Evans was deliberately trying to hurt a fellow professional. That’s why he got a straight red.

    Isn’t that SUPER?

Don’t talk to me about referring bias and if the referee was Howard Webb the other, I think the one who got the red would be the Bolton chap instead of Evan.

    Again, SUPER!

  360. smartalex says:

ancha, it’s crazy that we are forced to swop strikers for defensive reasons, then lose a defender, which wakes up the crowd, who carry us to victory. And the defensive striker scores!

That Redsee is weird, or wired, maybe? No matter, someone else can call the supervisor.
I have other fish to fry.

  361. RedSea says:

@smartalex, i was hoping you could do better than that.

Just wanted to point out an example of a United fan who only wants to see what he wanted to see.
    It’s just you actually.

I believe all other United supporters are much better in terms of knowledge, passion no matter how much they dislike other clubs.

    SUPER again!

  366. CedarsDevil says:

    Morning mattbw7

You going to the West Ham game mate? I miss being in the stands and singing my heart out. Always loved going to Upton Park…..

  367. mattbw7 says:

    Hi Cedars
Don’t get too many aways these days I can manage to get tickets for Bolton, Wigan cos I know chaps who can help out but in all honesty I fell out of that habit a few years ago with a young family etc, just content to keep my ST, West Ham is one of those grounds where the atmosphere is always good and it seems that weird fella who manages them has got em organised, another tough game for us.

  368. Kings says:

RedSea – Piss off you twat.

  369. CedarsDevil says:

    Kings

Morning mate, nicely said re the troll buddy!

    mattbw7

I hear you my friend, always a tough game for us the shit on park, would be a crucial win should we get it

  370. dre says:

holten went in with a fair tackle and evans went in over the top with his studs showing. blood or not, thats a straight red for evans, and i cant understand how anybody could argue otherwise. ive been following united for 20 years and im as biased as they come, but for fuck sake, pick your battles mate.

  371. CedarsDevil says:

    Who the fuck is holten?

  372. mattbw7 says:

Evans did not go over the top replays clearly show him connecting with Holdens knee on the floor, the sendiing off was about right because it can be argued it was reckless but thats a long way from deliberate or over the top as you say which implies the same thing.

  373. Einsi says:

    @RedSea.

“The Evans tackle is much worse than the Carragher’s one. And for sure Evans was deliberately trying to hurt a fellow professional.”???

How can you come to a conclusion like that? At least Evans goes for the tackle on the ground unlike Carraghers mindless attack on the standing foot. And deliberately trying to hurt him? I would suggest that would be the case with your man Carragher, rather than Evans.

Look, here is the deal. You are obviously not in balance. Cool down, put on paper your thoughts, read them over the day after and THEN decide to post them or not. At the moment you are talking out of your ass.

  374. RedSea says:

@Einsi, you’re right. Same goes with Fabio with studs showing. Please wear glasses if you’ve not done so.

All I’m pointing out is how typical United supporters are these days. Only want to see things their way. Remember how Roy Keane went and deliberately injured Hangelaand and then put in in his autobiography???? Now, that’s cowardly act if all you United fans don’t seem to remember. And only a United player will do such a thing. How about Cantona kung-fu kick? You want more examples. I’m sure you can think of more if you see things more clearly.

At least that scouser has the balls to say he was wrong and apologised.

    Super!

  375. King Eric says:

RedSea – Fuck off you scouse cunt. You sound about six years old. Super? Fuck off. For your information Stuart Holden has confirmed Evans has apologised and also said it wasn’t intended and it was one of those things. You can now stop concerning yourself with all things United.

  376. RedSea says:

    @King Eric
Ditto to you. Does it really matter if I’m six or sixty? At least I can see things clearly and in a more balanced perspective. Well, good riddance to Stuart Holden who accepted the apology unlike some United cry baby player who moaned and groaned after one similar tackle……

That shows again at what level some United players are….nuff said.

As your name suggested, maybe you’ve been practicing some kung-fu kicks lately?

    SUPER!

  377. mattbw7 says:

Well RedSea, I think your posts demonstrate all that is wrong with certain sections of your support, you’re entitled to your blinkered point of view but it doesn’t make it correct.

    Superduper

  378. mattbw7 says:

Well RedSea, thanks for demonstrating the typically blinkered nature of your support and the dreary attempt at wind up.

For the record though I’m quite accepting of the fact that the red card for Evans was deserved as for keane Haaland tackle there is a difference between understanding it and defending it, you will really have to educate yourself as to the reasons behind it if you want to understand and on an official level he was punished and had to change that passage in the book, funny how Haaland muttered about taking him to court for ending his career which failed as the injury that did for him was on his other leg.

On to Eric, his actions cleary cost us but if you’re going to ask me to condemn him for reacting to the provocation he faced while walking off the pitch I won’t again you will have to educate yourself as to what preceded the kick, even your own ex player Barnes defended him saying fans should not be allowed to get away with some of the things they say and had wanted to do the same himself many times.

Quite what either of these two issues have to with Saturday however is beyond me as the circumstances surrounding the incidents where totally different, the fact remains Evans was rightly sent off where Carra was able to stay on the pitch.

    Supeduper

  379. CedarsDevil says:

    Superduper Indeed

  380. RedSea says:

    @mattbw7,
I’m a football fan in general and as a matter of fact, I’ve read Roy Keane’s autobiography and to be honest, it was really disgusting the way he described the incident citing revenge and deliberately with the intention to end a fellow professional’s carrer. I do know the history and background of that incident and of course it is in Haaland’s objective to bring the matter to court if someone has ended his rice bowl so to speak. Would you not do the same if someone deliberately injure you to the point that you can work and support your family?

As for Barnes statement, I think what he said was undoubtedly correct as what fans say sometimes really are out of hand. But again, these are a bunch of professional footballers and what fans screamed at you are part and parcel of the game. It’s that kind of life being a footballer being paid enormoue amount of money and you just have to suck it up. Plus, the Cantona moment was during a match where passion and emotions were filling the air. Might as well watch a chess game!

But to the point of kung-fu kicking a fan was a real disgrace and nothing can can defend what he did.

So, indeed you yourself needs to be educated more before splashing unsubstantiated claims like your post above.

But, it’s not too late for you to do so. All the best.

  381. bobkoh says:

I don’t know if anyone above have mentioned it, but the highlight of the match for me was not Berba’s goal.
It was when Sir Alex reached for the white wired ‘home’ phone once Evans was shown the red. It was hilarious when one thinks of Big Sam and his ear-piece gizamatic or Mourinho and his wireless comm set up from the dressing room in one of Chelsea’s match in which he was sent off.

  382. mattbw7 says:

Redsea I think you should read that passage again as it seems time has dulled your recollection of the incident, plus your surmise the tackle was intended to end Halaands career an assumption that is clearly incorrect. Halaand rather stupidly tried to claim the Keane had ended his career however the case collapsed when he conceded the injury that did cause him to retire was on the other leg and had absolutley nothing to do with Keanes tackle, this fact is indisputable.

Your assertion that Proffesional footballers should just suck it up is much the response I would have expected as its the usual blandishment trotted out, however these professionals are also human beings and as such have different tolerance levels, it was a highly charged situation and the man ran down some 15 rows of seats to confront a player and he snapped, I’m not saying what he did was right however the fact he is a pro footballer has nothing to do with it.

I notice you decline to respond to the fact the Evans was sent off and Carra was not and I love the “I’m a football fan in general” lol you really are Superduper.

  383. RedSea says:

    mattbw7,
Too bad for Haaland that the case collapsed but it will not change the fact on the intention from Keane’s side to injure him on purpose with the objective of ending one’s career. Court case is another thing altogether.

Evans got sent off but Carra didn’t. Did you not remember that Gerrard got sent off (the challenge on Carrick) but not Fabio (similar 2 footed challenge on Lucas) during the FA Cup? Well, this is football and you win and lose some of the refeering decisions. At that time, we didn’t go around moaning about why Fabio didn’t get sent off butjust swallowed the decision though it was a tough one not to mention the penalty decision by Webb (yes, a different thing altogether).

What I’m trying to say is for you guys to have a more balanced view on things (but I must say it is rahter difficult) and see things not only in a single match. I can quote you more examples but it seems like you’re a decent bloke with good knowledge of football and I’m sure you can recall the examples.
Yes, footballers are humans too and with tolerable emotions. But they get compensated with the enormous paycheck and again, this is life of football. You can expect the fans to sit quietly like watching a tennis or chess game. That’s how it works. It will not be called football if such things don’t happen. Clear? Super duper indeed, I think.

  384. mattbw7 says:

Your idea of a balanced view is one where you insisted that keane had set out end Halaands career and unless you have evidence I contend its merely conjecture on your part.

You contradict your own argument vis a vis the cantona incident you infer I suggest football fans should sit quietly though I can’t see where I wrote that but then thats typical of all your responses on this thread, fans can shout whatever they like but if they say get thrown out of a ground or prosecuted becasue thier actions or words went to far then thats what happens, I’m not sure how your argument of a fat pay packet means players are barred from having human reactions however unpalatable they may be.

Now back to the Evans/Carra comparrison, rather than answer that you seek to expand by including other challenges which is a sign of someone who recognises thier original argument holds little water, we all can point many and varied incidents that can muddy the waters of a debate, it does however show that nothing of what you write identifies you as a “general football fan” I can think of a few phrases and words that could describe you but I think the most polite is troll.

  385. RedSea says:

    mattbw7,
You’re way off topic and trying to move goalposts when your arguments don’t hold. I can uncerdtans that you have to do that coz you’ve got nothing.
We’re debating on the tackles and merit red cards and also discipline of some of the players.

Let me summarize as I already know that people like you will change topics easily.

I will give it a score for each one based on the arguments that we’ve given.

    RedSea vs Mattbw7

    Keane deliberately injure a professional
Haaland pursue court case – Fact and justifiable though the case was ruled in favour of the crook Carra’s tackle on Nani – single footed with studs shown but not sent off
Evans tackle on Holden – sent off
Gerrard’s tackle on Carrick – sent off
Fabio on Meireles – double footed with studs shown but not sent off
Fabio on Lucas – double footed with studs shown but not sent off
Evans apologised and Holden accepted – kudos to Holden
Carra apologised and Nani refused to accept – Nani continued to cry like a baby saying he will be out for 1 thousand weeks and then all of a sudden back after 2 weeks….woohooooo…..talk about a real cry baby and exaggeration from the United camp….

So, please look at the above and see whether United has really been shortchanged or not? I don;t think so. In fact, you guys are better off with all the decisions but continue to pick on a single incident and continue to moan and groan….wait, that’s Nani syndrome….

    And finally,

Mattbw7 failed miserable in his arguments and debate with a “general football fan” and then tried to label the person a troll…..Clearly rubber stamped the United fans’ mentality on all things….

I may be a troll but a balanced instead of a tongue twisting cry baby with no knowledge of football devil…

    Superduper indeed……

  386. mattbw7 says:

Oh dear, you cant even see the bitterness you write so enraptured are you by it.

  387. RedSea says:

As expected….the truth is always hard to face…

  388. mattbw7 says:

Not at all, I was willing to have an open debate with you but as ever people with an sgenda such as yours are incapable and I do get tired of hoping that fans of other clubs can come here and be realistic and not resort to the type of attitudes and beliefs prevelant on the back pages of the red tops.

If you re read my comments with regard to you, you will see the that’s what I was attempting to do.

  389. mattbw7 says:
