  6. Zibbie says:

    He looks fucking great!!!!!!

  7. Zibbie says:

This kicks it up a notch at practice and the Tony V to return. Rio is back. Vida comping at the bit between that fast ass Clydesdale!!! OK as good as talent and team as Barca and Realmadne$$ and built to get better.

    @ Ancha,

    continuing from the last thread…

    @ Ancha,

    i understand your concern,

however we need to think about the one man upfront formation as well for few games (we all know that nani and young will be as good as 2nd strikers)..

so he will fit in in that formation where nani and young will be further down the pitch, with fletch, tom and ando comprising a 3 men little midfield..

    your views?

  9. ancha says:

Any one still think Fletch isn’t that great in the final third
if you do please roll back to the highlights of 2008-09

  10. Vish says:

To anyone who saw the full game, did fletch show signs of returning to his best?

  11. ancha says:

    Thanks Scott! for the videos

  12. Zelh says:

    great to have fletcher back.
    we missed him a lot.

  13. ancha says:

    Darren Fletcher

    rating – 7.5/10

A good return to football for the captain who lost a stone of body weight to a virus recently. Great assist for Kenny Miller in the first half and “tireless running” earned him a goal in the second.

  14. Balaji Sivaraman says:

@ancha, Spot on! I hate it when people say that Fletch is only good at destroying the game and so on. With all the noise made about his work-rate, people forget that he is very good technically – moreso than similar players like himself. He can work out neat little one-two’s in space, pick a pass when needed and score goals like the one he scored against Everton last year. To call Fletcher just a destroyer is quite simply a travesty. Having him back is like a new signing. It has to be noted that Fletch was not on-form last year also, could explain our away performances. If he can find his feet which he already seems to be doing, then the other top PL managers just pissed in their pants.

  15. Zelh says:

btw Hargreaves is NOT in Citeh’s CL-squad

  16. Zibbie says:

Balaji Sivaraman, top of the day Red dude!!!
Good to read your stylish writings.
    Go Fletchanator!!!

  17. Zibbie says:

For the better part of two years SAF team sheet went, VDS, Rooney, Vida and Fletch and the rest.

  18. ancha says:

    Balaji

How about his crosses, remember he played on the wing & at RB for some games

I remember he was decent at CB too, what a player!

It’s a crime to bracket Fletch as only a MF destroyer or some one who breaks up play

I will put one classic question to those who time and again address Fletch as Defensive MF, If you observe for almost all the games during his outstanding 2 year spell he played all over the pitch if he is just someone who can break up play why didn’t he just stay in-front of defense and break attacks
It hurts when many forget his offensive contribution
He used to be one of the best Box-to-box CM in the world
I wish we get back the old Fletch!

  19. Zibbie says:

He does exactly what SAF asks of him, sounds stupid but it is a simple as that. Oh he does it with heart passion and a controlled furry and pisses the opposition off is a plus.

  20. ancha says:

    Zibbie

    spot on!

    add Evra to that

and he looked ragged for majority of the last season, although he has been brilliant offensively in the last few games his defending and positional sense are not at the level what we used to see from Evra in the previous seasons
and this in turn may put extra burden on young inexperienced & regular scapegoat J Evans
I hope people take it at as constructive criticism rather than as an attack on Evra, he needs to tighten up at the back even if it means he has to curb his attacking instincts let it be he is a defender after all

  21. Zibbie says:

Why are there no cheerleader in Football? The weather to bad? A little skirts in the air with sped eagle freshly shave monkey lips would add to the game. IMHO hehe

  22. Zibbie says:

spread eagle shit can not spell.

  23. Zibbie says:

Every person has things they can do better. So, some say this maybe because Fabio looks good? A natural thing young pushing the older.

  24. Dandivine7 says:

Great to see Darren back! Along with Giggs, Carrick, Anderson, Cleverley and Pogba not forgetting Gibson, We can carry on from Where We left on Sunday. Exciting times indeed!

  25. Zelh says:

Fabio earned his chance at LB.
Evra really struggled most of last season defensivly.
So if Vidic is back, Fabio should get a few starts.

  26. Zibbie says:

    Zehl, spot on.

  27. Kings says:

Nicely taken goal Fletch. Shame your team mates are fucking useless.

  28. dannysoya says:

    YESSSSS GREAT JOB FLETCH!!!!

  29. slim says:

gonna keep my thoughts on fletcher to myselffor a while. I’ve yet to see him play very well for almost 2 years now. I’m just glad he’s fit and available for selection. He will have to play like a new signing. At this point in the game i thinks that’s what expected now. All he has to do is look at Carrick’s “fall from grace” .

In other news Rene Meulensteen comments seem to be causing a stir

    http://www.teamtalk.com/news/1542/7147027/United-coach-writes-off-rivals

  30. Fred says:

Welcome back, Fletch! He’ll be like a new signing for us. My God, what a squad we have. 8)

  31. slim says:

the way i see it, the competition for the CM slot will be between him and Ando. maybe we’ll see carrick in a more advanced role ala Tom C

  32. Kings says:

slim – Yeah nice one Rene!

  33. Balaji Sivaraman says:

@Zibbie, Cheers buddy! I have to say in return that your insanely funny posts keep my spirits up throughout the day.

@ancha, Yeah mate, I almost forgot about them crosses. There were a few he delivered to Rooney in the season before last when Wayne was on his spree, and they were right on the money. Like I said, to call him just as a destroyer is shortsighted IMO.

  34. Zibbie says:

    Slim you make me laugh.
If that is keeping a thought to your self? hehe

  35. dannysoya says:

@slim why the fuck does meuleensteen have to go and talk shit like that? can’t he shut his fucking mouth up for once FFS. Thankfully it wasn’t Fergie all is still well. he should learn to be more of a sportsman. what a stupid , arrogant way to talk about rivals. Hopefully we keep our head down and play like we are on the verge of relegation taking every game as a cup final and by the end of the season we will do well if we do this.

  36. Red Riding Wolf says:

Watching Scotland in the first half, was like trying to shit glass. Very fucking painful! Good to see the Fletcher back, though.

  37. slim says:

    Kings

you should read the comments, hilarious. Champions are going blow their own horn every now and then ,and its not as if he’s always in the media gobbing off. Can you imagine if City won the league. The amount of drivel will be quite frankly astronomical.

  38. Zibbie says:

Wolfie, that sounded like a first hand account?!?
I was like 13 and saw in a POW camp they put glass rods up your pee hole and smashed the glass!!!!!!!!!

  39. Zibbie says:

Slim, are you the Slim that knocked out Bad-Bad Leroy Brown?

  40. dannysoya says:

i just don’t like anyone who boasts not really nice and respectful. or if you’re gonna boast do it in a nice way. Not happy with rene’s comments.

  41. Zibbie says:

    @dannysoya
I have the answer to mans biggest question, no boast just is this post.

  42. Red Riding Wolf says:

Boasting in a nice way, kind of defeats the purpose, no?

  43. Zibbie says:

yup, that would be me, right hook, left hook, and an uppercut. sounds about right

    dannysoya

the words “not arrogant, just better” is a difficult cross to carry. but carry it we do. I get what you mean, but whats life if you can’t come out and toot your horn once in a while. In the era where we see people now comparing man shitty to Barcelona, ABU media all up in our business. I welcome it, we’re the champions for goodness sake. Again no need to be boastful but you can hardly call that in your face taunts. They say stuff about us too. Weak midfield, poor team, weak goalkeeper, list is endless.

Ha, believe me, you don’t want to get me started. The MF is part of the squad that get the juices flowing.
Exercise in futility i know, but i’m trying to figure out SAF’s ultimate plan for that area.

  53. slim says:

    Sandeep1878

awww come on.!! first one was alright but now you’re pushing it :-)

  54. Red Riding Wolf says:

Just heard that Ashley Young’s jersey was 2nd highest sold in the last week..

thanks for all the reds who bought them :)

  59. CedarsDevil says:

Bloody hell Baros still plays? Seems like he was at Liverpool in the 70′s! lol

ancha – I replied to you on the other thread buddy.

  60. slim says:

    Sandeep1878
nah no fuss, actually couldn’t be arsed to check for resuls

  61. Fred says:

This confirms my suspicion that Ashley Young was only bought to sell shirts! :D

  62. Kings says:

slim – Yeah I read it earlier, that’s why I said nice one Rene. Why shouldn’t he or anyone at United talk like that. We have a young and powerful squad ready to butcher the opposition and Arsenal felt the full force last Sunday – they will be the first of many this season.

  63. dannysoya says:

better not to talk off it and put un necessary pressure on urself. just leave your talking on the pitch. the message gets across a lot better there. yes sometimes i talk shit to fans who piss me off once in a while but on the real i’m not a fan of boasting. i get ur point slim.

  64. Sandeep1878 says:

@ Ancha and cedarsdevil and Kings..

Damn…I’ve missed RoM. Zebbie ranks as number 1 clown. Your comments are sick, mate. I’m all cracked up. Where’s costa too? Rooting for Fletch and the silky bulgarian, Berba. I don’t envy SAF’s job. Seems its gon’ be harder for the gaffer to find who’s best for a position than gettin number 20. Well, the Red Devils are marching on…

  70. Red Riding Wolf says:

    Douglas Costa? Great wee player.

The winner in him is bitterly disapointted in the result, he’s clearly pissed off in the video.

Glad he’s back, My favourite midfielder of the past 5 years at United (actually its Scholes but Yeah)

  73. King Eric says:

Slim. Hello mate. Fletch aint played well for two years? How you work that out. He was good in the o9 10 season ans was good up till about november last year. So in truth its been seven months he has suffered. On his day he is simply now our best MF. Like my say he is a great passer of the ball. Not just short buy long. He is an intelligent player and reads the game well. A top player in my book.

Anyway let renee boast. Its down to a lot of his training methods we are playing this well. I really like the bloke. He was also the one responsible for Ronnies rise and Nanis.

  74. Fred says:

Fletch looks cool with the beard.

  75. Red Riding Wolf says:

Na, it was the coastline. He loves travelling.

  82. The team that wouldn't die says:

    Midfield crisis???
We have a young gun in Cleverley. better than Henderson and Rodwell.
A genius in Giggs that can come off the bench and make an impact.
Anderson is finally scoring and playing well every time he’s on the pitch.
Fletcher didn’t play in our 2 last CL league finals. WE NEED a guy that can break up the ball game in the Barca midfield!
Carrick will push for a start, thus making himself and the others better.
    Pogba may come good.
…and more youngsters just won the FA youth cup.

Let City have Hargo and the rest of the non scoring defencive midfileders.

  83. markg says:

I’ll probably look like a cunt for saying this but maybe its time the Glazers took their place at OT as rightful owners for the way they have backed SAF100% afterall should we not be United.

‘United’s Under-18s kickstarted their season with a 3-1 victory over Leeds at Carrington to get three points on the board in the Premier Academy League. Tom Lawrence scored twice, including a penalty, and Jack Barmby wrapped things up in the closing stages after the visitors competed well throughout. Welshman Lawrence took only a couple of minutes to break through, profiting from some aggressive play by Barmby to set up a left-footed finish with a lovely piece of skill.’

I’ve heard a few say “how can you knock fletcher” ” he’s more than just a destroyer” they say,
Well sure he can play a pass, he’s been at the club for a while now, he should be able to knock on a ball.
    I don’t know, maybe i expect too much…
Rene is on point. Listened to a clip of paul scholes and playing in CM. And from what he was saying i’m glad he’s in there. Querioz gets a lot of adulation but i think Rene’s alright too

Good to have you back buddy…….. I am sure you were busy trying to figure out how to get my gift. Tell you what, I think I will pull out of our little bet, seems unfair and too one sided to be honest! I mean 8 – 2

  107. smartalex says:

Who wrote that 2,500,000 word essay about Wayan Rooney, Mike tyson,SAF, Cus D’amato & many other issues? Anyone remember it? or who it was by? I remember it got a lot of criticism for the length.

I would like to read that, I have feeling I will be up all night. or Perhaps I shall write my own about a small man that found a ring, had a riddling Mic Fight with a obscene looking midget man and later in his life his nephew along with a bunch of tall men and midgets formed a fellowship to destroy this ring in a fiery volcano to stop its owner, a hooded thug gaining posession of this ring that coincidently has powers.

Yes my next post will be about this and Sir Alex Ferguson will be nicknamed Gandalf the Grey as a tribute to his wise magician like abilities at Manchester United Arab Emirates.

  123. smartalex says:

  125. MG says:

  126. smartalex says:

CedarsDevil – Thanks for the wishes buddy, but it is you that will be needing luck!

Zibbie – I noticed that you mentioned that a day or so ago. It has unfortunately become a necessity in order that sanity is retained.

My granny! What big red nuts you have!

  129. Red Riding Wolf says:

    MG – Where indeed? ;)

  130. smartalex says:

markg – You may be right, although I’ve not seen Sir Alex confirming that he hadn’t made that decision before selling Wes and JOS. However, Capello has said that he was pleasantly surprised by Smalling’s performance. Had he not selected Smalling just because it wasn’t his idea, it surely would be foolish.

  131. Zibbie says:

  136. smartalex says:

CedarsDevil – Do you remember more than a month ago I suggested to you that the sale of Wes and JOS would indicate an intention for United to play with positional freedom? I haven’t found my original submission, but it seems from these past games that it may be our new way. A quasi ‘total football’ is how KE described it recently.

The Liverpool team we faced in 1996 had talent but their professionalism wasn’t close to ours at United.

  170. denton davey says:

balaji @ 17:43: “To call Fletcher just a destroyer is quite simply a travesty. Having him back is like a new signing.”

Actually, if he can return to the “football genius” standard of 2008/2009 then he’d be better than a new signing.

ancha @ 17:58: “he looked ragged for majority of the last season, although he has been brilliant offensively in the last few games his defending and positional sense are not at the level what we used to see from Evra in the previous seasons”

I could not agree more with this assessment. He’s a fantastic attacking talent – and that makes Young/Nani dangerous down the left-side – but Patrice is out-of-position too frequently. I think that if the Da Silva twins were natural left-footers then Patrice’s days would be numbered BUT he’s the only natural left-footer in the first-team squad so he gets additional “points” for that.

Zibbie @ 22:40: “Smalling as all Man Utd players are first and foremost Footballers who play where and when they are told.”

Spot on – that ability is key to the various formations that SAF will deploy over the course of the season.

SmartAlex @ 22:46: “the sale of Wes and JOS would indicate an intention for United to play with positional freedom? I haven’t found my original submission, but it seems from these past games that it may be our new way. A quasi ‘total football’ is how KE described it recently.”

I agree – and I’d guess that the integration of Anderson, Chicharito, Welbeck, Ashley Young, and Tom Cleverley (followed by Pogba, Morrison, and Tunnicliffe) will be part of this evolution away from a fairly-rigid 4-4-2. It really speaks to Zibbie’s point @ 22:40.

    Good evening wayne!
I think that was the first scary movie I ever saw, terrifying, back in the day!

  178. markg says:

Its just great the way SAF changes and a lot to be said for the backroom staff the said can’t be said for wenger with that tool pat rice whispering in his ear; you ‘ve got to bring fresh ideas into mangement and not have a yes man sitting beside you.

  179. fergie is the boss says:

denton davey – when you mentioned the integration of Anderson, Chicharito, Welbeck, Ashley Young, and Tom Cleverley, that for me its like a set of new signings, and obvious young is a new signing. But for most games, anderson cleverly nani and young is one of the best midfield 4 united have had since the 1998/99 season

  180. smartalex says:

“Leeds United are agog to know whether Eric Cantona will be joining their official 20th anniversary dinner in October to commemorate winning the last First Division title before the Premier League began. A Leeds hero at the time, he became a villain by signing for the arch-enemy Manchester United six months later and would therefore face an interesting reception from supporters paying £72 for a ticket to the glitzy event. “He only played 15 games, so maybe he’ll just turn up for dessert,” one caustic Yorkie observed. The great man is understood to have been invited but not yet to have replied.”

There is no way he will attend!

FITB @ 0:08: “for most games, anderson cleverly nani and young is one of the best midfield 4 united have had since the 1998/99 season”

You’re forgetting that TheWayneBoy (and also Danny Welbeck [I need to get this guy a nick-name !] ) drop into midfield, too. Plus, of course, what about Antonio Valencia ? Already forgotten ? And DarrenFletcherinho – off the radar, too ? (not SAF’s radar, I’m sure).

  194. wayne says:

Utd have made a fantastic start but through the course of the season all the squad is going to get used, including Berba.
Lets not forget we played Spurs and Arse at the best time possible. It was the perfect scenario for Sir Alex to use the young lads and give them the confidence boost needed.
I’m not even sure what the first team is anymore,it seems the players are becoming more and more interchangable and the depth deeper and deeper.

Plus i’m sure jones smalling fabio rafeal can do a holding job in midfield

  197. smartalex says:

  198. wayne says:

@smartalex,i’m shocked at how good Phil Jones is full of confidence and bottle, how do you drop him? same with smalling, these 2 plus the twins, utds young defenders are very exciting because all have an attack mentality.
It is a opposition manager’s worst nightmare because it doesn’t matter what 11 he faces,he’s fucked lol

  199. Rai says:

    ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Very good point about the young defenders….and very well put!!

  200. MachedarsDevil says:

Cedars – I have come for you !

  201. smartalex says:

@wayne, Jones has been phenomenal! Rock solid, as well as rampaging runs and incisive passing turning defense into attack with the calm assurance of a seasoned veteran. His no-nonsense approach is surely going to be impossible to drop from the team. Not only are the opposition managers unable to sleep, our gaffer has selection dilemmas of his own! Long may it last.

  202. wayne says:

Looking at the Utd squad split them up, both 11 would challege for the title,Utds games in training must be so competitive it’d be better to watch than most prem games.

  203. markg says:

Rio will be having sleepless nights about phil and rightly so

  204. Rai says:

Markg, Wayne, Smartalex – Jones will be first choice within a year if he carries on the way he is. He’s a beast!

  205. smartalex says:

MUTV should make a fortune screening the training matches, they would knock most Prem games off the rankings! Add to that our stealth teams, and we could replace the EPL with the UPL – United Premier League!

  206. smartalex says:

Rai – Unless Sir Alex unearths another gem before then!

  207. Rai says:

Smartalex – Its not often defenders can excite you but the current bunch, like Wayne said, are a weapon in attack as well as defence…scary stuff for the opposition!!

“The standout performance of the day came from Tom Lawrence. He’s figured heavily in this match report and he deserves any praise this performance brings him from wherever it comes from. I know my Twitter timeline was littered with praise for him, maybe they didn’t even know that he played through massive back pain he suffered whilst away with Wales in Bulgaria last week. Tom’s scored three in two games now but his game was and is about so much more than just goals. He drops into the hole and finds space to help himself and his team mates. He released James weir into a goal scoring chance behind the defence in the first half, he was integral in Jack Barmby’s goal and he looks to be the catalyst for anything this team might achieve this season.”

  218. Kings says:

Sandeep1878 – Morning my friend. Hope you are well.

Thanks for the link mate. That was an amazing own goal, great piece of skill from Martinez. Our poor lad had no chance!

  219. Sandeep1878 says:

Kings – very good morning buddy, i m well, thanks and hope you well as well..

yup that was funny goal by Martinz..

thank god for Martinez, otherwise th English ABU media would have started a revoloution against De Gea and his wak links.

    will catch up in sometime..

  220. smartalex says:

Fletcher added: “It’s a stonewall penalty. I thought they were both penalties though I’ve not seen the replays. How he can’t give ours is beyond me after giving them one in the last minute at a full Hampden. If we didn’t have bad luck we wouldn’t have any luck at all. It is bitterly disappointing. The lads are devastated in the dressing room; the effort, the commitment they put into the game. All we can do is lift ourselves for Tuesday. There is still hope and while there is still hope we will keep fighting.”

  221. CedarsDevil says:

    smartalex

Good morning my friend… Regarding your post at 22:46 I do recall something along those lines but not in details, I also remember discussing with you whether or not United needed to buy more players I believe you wanted a new full back as well as a midfield player.

  222. smartalex says:

    CedarsDevil

    Good morning my friend!

I was sure that we would add two more players to our squad. Of that, I was very sure.
Very wrong too, as time would tell us so clearly!

As i recall, you disagreed with my assessment absolutely. I remember a time when a
two-membered clique courageously and steadfastly declared that our dealings were
done, despite contrary rumours and statements emanating from Old Trafford.

When you are right, you are right! Well done, sensible sir!

  223. CedarsDevil says:

    smartalex

What matters to all of us is where we go from here and by the look of things this young team is certainly going places, providing us with endless excitement and nail biting finishes!

I remember during the summer when both Sir Alex and Gill came out with what seemed to be contradicting statements regarding our signings…. I still cannot believe that some were naive enough to think that both men were on different wave lengths or even in disagreement. How silly

This is Sir Alex we are talking about, what actually happened was a very intelligent ploy by both men to keep our rivals on their toes, to keep them guessing and in the end perhaps do a couple of panic buys themselves.

  224. smartalex says:

    CedarsDevil

Agreed. Our management is so well established and competent. There is no doubt or chance that Gill was speaking outside of an arranged approach agreed with Sir Alex. For that matter, René Meulensteen’s statements then (about wee wes) and now (about our weak opponents) is not some foolish blathering, but an agreed tactic.

  225. smartalex says:

“There’s no point in thinking about succession planning because he will stay as long as he wants,” Neville told BBC 5 live’s Sportsweek programme. “I don’t see this manager quitting. He is just the absolute best. He has health on his side and he looks the same to me as he did 10 to 15 years ago. How can you think about succession when you have a man that shows no sign of giving up, no sign of wanting to quit, no sign of wanting to be the manager anymore? For all Manchester United fans, they hope he stays forever.”

  227. Balaji Sivaraman says:

Morning Cedars and smartalex as well as the rest of ROM.

Regarding our signings, I maintained that it was Sneijder or bust. I always had a sneaky suspicion that everything else was just bollocks. We did try to get Sneijder and offered him the deal on a platter. However, the greedy bastard wanted more quid rather than look at all the glory that would be coming his way. Ultimately, it was his loss. As someone else said before, we missed out on Darren Anderton and that eventually paved the way for Becks to become a world-beater. Sniejder’s greed is a blessing in disguise and will allow the current crop of Fledglings – especially Cleverley – to become Red legends.

smartalex, I asked you a question while you were on a brief hiatus: Do you still think Arsenal will finish in second?l

Similar to the Henry Winter article above, Paul Wilson has great words to say about Wayne Rooney and Chris Smalling.

As for Gary’s autobiography, I’ve already fallen in love with the snippets from the book in The Daily Mail. I ended up pre-ordering it at a small discount from Amazon along with Scholes: My Story as well. The latter does not have a definite release date so far. I feel both will prove to be equally engrossing reads. One can imagine Gary’s will be more explicit whereas Scholesy’s will be more measured. However, as we already saw in the summer, there are more secrets in Paul’s closet preicesly for that reason. As an aside, it is equally amazing that Roy, Paul and Gary’s biographies all have their names printed on the cover in bold red.

  228. Sandeep1878 says:

    @ smart alex and Cedarsdevil..

    Good morning buddies,

i see some awesome discussion between you two regarding our excellent management and team squad..

    absolutely i agree..

certainly we have the best manager in the history supported by efficient, experienced, the know-how staff which is like the right hand of our greatest manager..

having skills, squad and money is one thing, but efficient management is other thing, which comes in place only after years of perfection and hard work..

SIR ALEX FERGUSON IS THE EPITOME OF UNITED AND MANAGEMENT, BE IT TEAM OR PLAYER.

  229. smartalex says:

    Good morning Balaji!

I’m very sure that Arsenal will be in the top 4, and still feel confident that they have a good shot at coming second. The hammering we gave them will do them more good than harm, as it forced Whinger to bring in some experience. City will implode, and Chelsea are old and decrepit. The dippers are rubbish, and their manager is the unusual for a Scot, in that he doesn’t have the bottle required to carry his team through the rough patches. Who else is there that can finish above the arse?

The audio file of the Neville interview linked at 9:31 is a great listen, don’t miss it!

  230. smartalex says:

    Good morning Sandeep1878!

  231. Sandeep1878 says:

    Good morning smarty :P

  232. Balaji Sivaraman says:

@sandeep, I agrree. The effects of his philophy and the seeds he has laid during his reign will be felt long after he leaves the hallowed turf of Old Trafford. In fact, we’re already seeing the ripple effect in display with Ole’s management skills coming to the fore with both our reserves and at Molde. We had already glimpsed it with Bruce, Keane etc. Ole will pass on the same teachings to his successor down the line and the Ferguson Philosophy – built on the Matt Busby philosophy – will live on long after we’re dead. Sir Matt laid the seeds of the United foundation, Shankly may have been the first to taste huge success, Paisely built a great European British team, Rinus Michels will be remembered for bringing total football – But I can guarantee that none of them have built team after team for 26 years with all of them being equally successful, if not moreso than their previous ones. I may be speaking with my red-tinted glasses here, but Sir Alex Ferguson is the greatest manager in the history of football. Period. Someone else stated this a few days back and it had been on my mind for a long time. Sir Alex should be placed in equal footing to Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, Warren Buffett as pioneers in their respective fields.

  233. CedarsDevil says:

    Hi Sandeep

By the way Sir Alex was not a bad player during his time, in fact he was actually one of the most prolific strikers of his generation scoring 170 goals in 317 games. I suppose its one of the reasons why the great man loves attacking football!

  234. Balaji Sivaraman says:

Good Day smartalex. The only prediction I can guarantee is that whoever finishes above United will be Champions. Of course, I cannot see that happening, so I maintain that if we don’t implode ourselves (which never happens), we will be lifting the 20th at the end of the season. I still see Chelsea and City challeging us over different periods of time. Arsenal, Liverpool and Spurs will battle it out for 4th is what I feel. Of course, I’m never quite sure on my predictions with my inherently wavering mind, so expect that to change over the course of the season. :P

  235. CedarsDevil says:

    Balaji

There is a lot more riding for Arsenal this season if they do not finish 2nd, or worse still if they fail to make the top 4…. A heavy price will be paid by a dear regular here on RoM and I for one am waiting for that to happen with a very nice grin of my old face!

  236. Sandeep1878 says:

    @ Cedars,

thanks for the numbers buddy, i wasnt aware of the goals our greatest manager has scored..

May be everytime Rooney comes back to dressing room after scoring, Sir Alex will say, son i have 170 goals at a strike rate of more than 0.5 and u better listen to me, u gotta listen to me otherwise as well :)

yup i agree, Sir being a striker and bringing that into attacking football is the best combination so far..

    @ Balaji,

    good morning buddy,

    true, agree with that..

you make sensible and great post on Sir Alex, Management and his Legacy..

    ditto, i agree thoroughly..

    good times ahead…

  237. CedarsDevil says:

    Sep 10 Bolron away
    Sep 18 rentboys home
    Sep 24 Stoke away
    Oct 1 Norwich home
    Oct 15 dippers away yummy
    Oct 23 bitters home yummy

Interesting 6 fixtures coming up, last 2 most appealing of course not forgetting the rentboys as well…

18 points to play for, I wonder how much we will ‘harvest’ !

  238. smartalex says:

If Ashley ‘Neil” Young plays, we might just harvest the lot!

  239. CedarsDevil says:

As long as Sir Alex has his sickle well sharpened we should do some good harvesting in those matches

  240. mikekelly12 says:

    Morning fellas

    Cedars…………..Hmmm, let me see…Bolton – 3pts, Rent Boys – 3pts, Stoke – 3pts, Norwich – 3pts, Dippers they are that shit we’ll get 6pts and Bitters – 3pts….so, 21pts!!

  241. Red Riding Wolf says:

You can not lose, if you do not play.

    Green tops, last call!

  242. smartalex says:

    WMD’s right here! Right here!

  243. CedarsDevil says:

    Mikekelly

I like how you think, 21 points it is then!

  244. CedarsDevil says:

    Costas

You learn from parenting that you should not always give your boys what they want! lol

  245. Doghouse says:

Random thought about Smalling, he seems to be actually, y’know, clever. As in he has a brain. He can use words in whole sentences and seems to be articulate ideas with a degree of perspicacity not usually found in footballers. I don’t think footballers are necessarily dumb, guys like Rooney are often perceived to be dense because of their roots, accent and vocabulary, but Smalling definitely seems to be a lot more savvy than most.

  246. Costas says:

    @Cedars

Yeah but you really shouldn’t force them to do things they don’t want to do either.

Smalling could play at the centre with Jones if Fabio starts on the right and Evans plays on the left, but it doesn’t look like that’s going to happen. Something tells me that Sir Alex expects Evra to work through his average form on the pitch and doesn’t think dropping him would help.

  247. MG says:

Sp apparently though it is bullshit paper talk:

Sneijder wanted United to pay for his house in Italy and get him here on private jet

Well SAF wouldn’t pay for a player to get on a bus in Manchester let alone buy his property so he can do one

Any idiot thinking that the transfer could be on in January as he apparently is quoted is dreaming

It’s a no go full stop – and I will stop this Sneijder nonsense once and for all

    I think so anyway

  248. Costas says:

Just saw that slim posted the article about Jose. Who could ever think that he was a part of the anti Wes clique hey?

  249. MG says:

Mourinho was of course bought out by a shady Lebanese guy and a man saying that he was Greek to the core.

  250. MG says:

One offered him infinite Lebanese wisdom the other just put kebabs in front of him – that apparently did the trick

  251. MG says:

And then the Lebanese man said to Mourinho – you can forget the OT job it’s going to you know who and the Greek man just offered him more kebabs

In a fit of great anger Mourinho cried and ate kebabs and got on his i-phone telling Sneijder

Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo – don’t go to OT because I won’t be the next manager

And so as the news trickled down the phone Sneijder started crying – his wish was to be united at United sometime in the future with Mourinho – only SAF would not buy him a house and the private jet fair – to which Sneijder left broken hearted started playing Football Manager 2011 on the advice of Van Der Vaart which was passed on from Harry Redknapp. In his dreams he became a United player.

    The End or is it?

  252. smartalex says:

Mourinho probably thinks that he can offer us wee Wes as a a bargaining chip.

The vain in Spain gall insanely with disdain.

  253. CedarsDevil says:

MG – Brilliant as ever my friend! Had me in tears

  254. Sandeep1878 says:

    Cedars,

did you hold Mourniho to gun my friend? :P

feels like its been a long time since we won at Anfield..

nothing would satisfy me more than a win against Dippers in their own shityard..

come on Young reds, roast them

  255. CedarsDevil says:

    Hi Sandeep

I cannot reveal any information, its only MG who is authorized to do so…..!

Agreed about Liverpool, about time we thumped them in their backyard

  256. Sandeep1878 says:

    Hello Costas and MG..

MG, will you stop pulling CD’s legs, he has had enough :) kidding though

    Costas,

agree with you on Sir Slex sticking with Evra rather than dropping..

but in all honesty, as we discussed last week, something needs to be worked out on Evra’s positional play..

yes i m fine with his attacking play, but i would want him a tad low on attack, especially with the way Young is playing..

We might get robbed in crucial games against tougher oppositions..

i m not telling Evra has lost it but i m worried..

all he needs to do is go back to the basic and defending, zonal play and position play, at least until we start pulling clean sheets..

with Vidic being out, its too much to ask of the youngsters to cover for Evra (which Vida has done often)..

    what would you say mate?

  257. Sandeep1878 says:

    some facts about this EPL..

‎25% of the EPL clubs now r London based….

Bolton, Sunderland, Swansea City, Wolverhampton, and Aston Villa all feature advertisements for betting companies on their jerseys and are are sponsored by gambling sites or casinos

Since Blackburn won the league in 1994-95, only Manchester United, Chelsea, and Arsenal have taken home Premier League titles.
In that same span, 12 different NFL teams have won Super Bowls.

An English manager has never won the league
Alex Ferguson has won 12 Premier League titles, but he’s a Scot.

It’s the most lucrative league in Europe…

    Image: Wikimedia Commons
Spurned by a massive TV rights deals and the most expensive ticket prices in the world, EPL revenues topped $2.8 billion in 2010-11,

Chelsea has the biggest salary figure at about $286 million

Only Arsenal, Aston Villa, Chelsea, Everton, Liverpool, Manchester United, and Tottenham have never been relegated.

In all, 45 teams have played in the highest level of English soccer.
Five of those teams survived just one season.
Seventeen teams have 10 or more total seasons in the EPL

The EPL is wildly popular overseas, especially in Asia.
In addition to the league $2.9 billion domestic TV deal, the EPL negotiated contracts with networks all over the world to broadcast its games lives. Those contracts amount to a cool $2.3 billion.

  258. Sandeep1878 says:

    just forgot to add that,

75% OF EPL TROPHIES ARE WITH MANCHESTER UNITED :P

  259. CedarsDevil says:

    Sandeep

Seeing that you like information, here are some interesting facts….

Sunderland, Everton & Aston Villa have all won more titles than Chelsea…

Nottingham Forest & Villa have won the European Cup whilst of course Chelsea & Arsenal never have

  260. Sandeep1878 says:

Good to know that, i wasnt aware about sunderland and nottingham..

    thanks :)

    this international break is killing..

i want the treat of Decemeber-Jan football…its like non stop football,

    SUnday, Wednesday, Sunday..

  261. CedarsDevil says:

Ya Nottingham Forest was like a fairy tale, they won it 2 years in a row and had one of the best managers to ever grace the game in Brian Clough (RIP)…What this great man did with Forest was miraculous…

To put it in perspective, it would be like Bolton winning the CL in current times….

  262. Costas says:

Can’t confirm whether MG is right or not, but I can confirm that a large supply of kebabs was mailed from Athens to Madrid last week. ;)

    @Sandeep1878

It’s starting to become a big worry for me mate. People gave Evans some stick last week, but looking at Arsenal’s 2 goals as well as their penalty, you have to wonder where Evra is in all 3 situations. You can’t spot at his position in any of these situations. Sometimes he doesn’t track back fast enough and others he tries to help out the centre of defence, but that complicates things for the central defender playing on the left. Hence Evans trying to mark Walcott…

I agree that Vidic’s presence has sometimes covered up this weakness. It’s something you tend to notice when Vida’s missing. It may sound a bit old fashioned, but maybe Pat should be forbidden from going beyond the half way line for a few games, lol. Just until he gets his positional awareness back. Like I said, Fergie probably thinks that Evra will work through this on the pitch. Just like Rooney does when he has a bad patch.

  263. Balaji Sivaraman says:

@Costas and Sandeep, While I completely agree with your concerns about Evra, it has to be duly noted that this season his performances have been on an upward curve with the quality gradually increasing and the mistakes gradually decreasing. Yes, he moves out-of-sync with the play still, but not as much as he did last season. If he can continue this trend, then that can only be good news for us. Of course, the problem as you have mentioned is that he has a few hungry youngsters behind him.

  264. FletchTHEMAN says:

Please job over to the Mail and tell Tom Barclay to shut it. Claiming that Martinez’s Own goal was somehow De Gea’s fault. This type of reporting is monumentally pathetic.

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2033346/David-Geas-lucks–ludicrous-goal-ever.html

  265. scan74 says:

@ Fletch the mate of course its DDG fault every keeper should be expecting a 30 yard back heel in that situation!!

what a clueless fucker of a journo cheap & lazy ABU at its finest parts of media desperate 4 the lad 2 fail

    he’ll do 4 me

  266. smartalex says:

I’d suggest that Young would take much or most of the responsibility for Walcott’s goal for Arsenal. Evra was central, and could have back-pedaled, although probably ineffectively, and Ashley should have covered the 2 men standing open instead of staring vacantly for 2 or 3 seconds.

  267. parryheid says:

Amazing how it’s always somebody else at fault, open your eyes to the obvious.

  268. denton davey says:

SmartAlex @ 9:47: “City will implode, and Chelsea are old and decrepit.”

    Gotta disagree – not surprisingly,eh ?

I think you’re under-estimating the main rivals and, especially, the quality of their management. I know that BobbyMancs gets lots of grief for being “Italian” and, therefore, “ultra-defensive” but that’s just overworked cliches describing last year’s performances when they set their sights on getting a CL place. They’ve spent a lot of money – a fair bit has been wasted – but their talent-level is now very high, especially among the “3″ behind the main striker. And, although I am not convinced by a defence with Joleon Lescott, Pablo Zabayleta, Alex Kolarov, and Micah Richards, While those individuals aren’t top-notch, they (and the others) have been well-drilled in team-defence. A lot of people seem to think that Tevez is a huge distraction but I’d be surprised if his team-mates paid any attention to his antics – I’d expect that they just say to themselves (and, probably, to each other), “hey, that’s just Carlitos being Carlitos”.

With the RentBoyz, again, you’re under-estimating their manager at your peril. He inherited a very goofy situation and rather than trying to spend, spend, spend – or bring in his own guys – he has adopted a strategy based on giving the inherited first-teamers lots of rope so that he can hang them out to dry. (It looks like he’s already done that with Kalou and, to a lesser extent, Anelka and maybe Alex.) The main problem for CSKA London is that they’re not really a team so much as an assemblage of expensive signings – signings made by six or seven different managers with too much input from their meddling owner (although some might argue that he is simply being “pro-active” in dealing with his toy). Villas-Boas is smart and he also realized that he was on a-hiding-to-nothing to come in and directly challenge Lampard, Drogba, Ca$hley, and EBJT. AND he has the big headache of figuring out what to do with TheLadyBoy, who seems to be a lost cause and a very, very expensive one, too. They’ve started out poorly but it’s not been because their squad is old; their poor start is because their squad is a mish-mash of ill-fitting parts.

To me, it’s interesting to contrast SAF’s team-building in the light of these comparisons. What the wily OldFootieKnight has done is to combine an insatiable desire to change/evolve/improve with ruthlessness in regard to aging personnel (see Wesley Brown, John O’Shea, et al) while continuously planning for squad-replenishment. The man has a plan. The players who trot out for TheLads have been selected/screened over a period of years as they have been inculcated with the team’s philosophy and team spirit while being introduced into the first-team from an early age. All the while, they know that if they’re not good enough then the exit door looms quickly – and certainly. I think that that knowledge breeds a kind of assured confidence in these kids because they know that if they can play their game then they’ll stick around; if not, then “see ya”. They’ve been hardened before they get an important game with the first team and when they do reach that level then their experienced, regardless of their age.

So, I’m expecting a three-way tussle but I’m with you in expecting TheLads to come out on top with 85-90 points.

  269. denton davey says:

Sandeep @ 13:22: “he needs to do is go back to the basic and defending, zonal play and position play”

Yep, Patrice is caught out too often lolly-gagging in the center-backs’ “zone” and creating huge swaths of space for the opposition in his zone. The first two goals against Barcelona in May were perfect examples of this problem.

  270. smartalex says:

denton davey – Excellent comment at 15:55! Very clear and readable, as well as sensible and logical. I think that the young portuguese coach won’t get the time or the space he will have been promised, and I think that Mancini won’t be able to keep the mercenaries from each other’s throats. Although everything indicates a three way tussle, Whinger will manage his side quietly into 2nd place, while United set records out in front.

    Here’s hoping!

  271. Mr C says:

O/T – and a long shot. Anyone hear the interview of R5L with Gary Neville this morning? We all know from his playing days that Gary’s a 100% committed guy as well as a true Red. However what struck me is Gary the degree to which has a seriously good footballing brain on his head, in a practical, analytical and no nonsense kind of way. And brutally honest too. This came through particularly when he was talking about the shortcomings of his generation of England players compared to the signs being shown by the latest crop of kids .

Gary is seriously smart. I guess listening to SAF for the past twenty years has rubbed off. Even that Wenger loving jounalist, Patrick whateverhisnameis, also on the programme as a guest, felt it necessary to doff his cap to Gary after listening to the recording.

It may be a long shot, but if SAF were looking for an apprentice to train up into the role…:)

P.s. Bugger the coaching badges, just show ‘em your medals, Gary.

  272. CedarsDevil says:

Hmmm Arsenal creeping quietly into second place? Cannot see that happening this season, in fact it would need a miracle of sorts. Best Arsenal can hope for is a top 4 finish and even that will not be easy… As much as we want to dismiss City and Chelsea I believe along with United the top 3 places are all but taken. Arsenal will have to fight it out for 4th with the dippers and probably Spurs who despite their crap start are still better equipped than the Gunners

  288. Zibbie says:

  289. Zibbie says:

    Serge LOL
Get the fuck out of here!

  290. Costas says:

Of course it was De Gea’s fault. Barcelona’s 2nd goal at Wembely was also his fault. Yeah, I know that Van Der Dar was in goal that day, but I wouldn’t put it past the Fail to accuse him of that too.

That’s the sad plight of the press. You think Taibi was as bad as they made him out to be? He made a couple of howlers, but he certainly didn’t deserve to be made a joke of.

    @Balaji

Hi mate. Don’t know if he has gradually improved. His mistakes last Sunday were more obvious than ever I feel. He’s still a pleasure to watch going forward, but he went missing at left back on a number of occasions. Who knows. Maybe it’s Sir Alex’s intention to not play as tight as he has in the past. So he doesn’t mind Evra not tracking back fast.

  291. Zibbie says:

Captain Evra, a FB as they age nowhere to hide. As for Rooney he can do a Scholesy start a striker go to ACM to DCM to a holding play maker. A FB is on an island and when they lose a 1/2 step all is there to see. With Vida out SAF looks to Evras leadership skills. If Vida was there Fabio would have played by now. Evra as all Man Utd players will have to earn their time on the field.

  292. Zibbie says:

Hey how about that Rooney guy, looking the baller A!

  293. Zibbie says:

All by, myself. I don’t want to be. All by myself.

  294. WillieRedNut says:

The thing with Evra, his defending is still very good. As been pointed out by others, the positional play is not there atm. In the premiership, we’ll get away with this, in most games. Europe is a different matter. The top teams will expose the space in behind. That’s why Park will be, and has been very important to United. He’s a grafter. When we get to the knockout stage in Europe, expect Park to play in every game. No doubt Fergie will tinker with the formation. Someone will miss out. But hey, It’s a squad game, after all.

  295. Costas says:

Lose the capitals willie. They make you look more serious. :P

  296. WillieRedNut says:

    No more change! :)

  297. Clint-iamyourpapii says:

The Evra of 2006-2010 was better than Ashley Arsehole & the best in the world for 4 years.
Now I reckon, without any bias they are both on the same level of ability and Cole edges it as the best.

Evra has been ripped by the likes of Lennon,Eto’o, Pedro, Luis Suarez &( Kaka in his prime).
Cole has been raped by Lennon, Valencia, Ronaldo (once) & Kuyt last season.

Evra has lost some of his positional sense but remains to be one of the best. He attacks great ( dodgy crosses aside) and can mark, header, tackle, intercept. Because of his high performances levels in the past it is easier to criticise him now. But Fabio at this moment is not as good yet, maybe soon but Evra has at least 2 more years in him.

SAF will play fabio often if he feels Evra is slipping away in terms of Ability. Trust SAF & Paddy.

  298. Zibbie says:

Thanks willie and Papii on your Evra thoughts.
    Kebas for all.
Willie your name changes have caused a stir.
Seems Man Utd are pressing more this year. Flying forward at every chance. As joked in the 8-2 thrashing, at times Evans seemed the only defender.

  299. Zibbie says:

This time last year was a trip. So much nicer going into the nat break having 9 of 9 points. Every pundent gave the PL title to the Rentboyz after 5 games.

no one would be more happy than us if he goes back to his old self where he defended like a monster..

thats what the real Evra is..

i m more happy to see him upgrade his attacking skills but he is basically there for defending..

all we need is little more disciplined when it comes space management..

i m sure he is not off the pace because u can see it hez got damn when we are on the attack..

but i m sure old Evra will be back to the business..

  311. sandeep1878 says:

it bought tears in my eyes…

With my obsessive attention to detailed preparation – the right number of leg weights, sprints, stretches – I knew I wasn’t ready.
Others might get away with cutting corners but, right through my career, if I wasn’t in the right condition, I was half the player.
Then I saw Paul Scholes in the canteen after I’d spoken to the manager, I told him my fears. ‘This is going to be messy,’ I said.
    He laughed.
‘You don’t mean Lionel.’ Typical Scholesy, ready to take the mickey.
So now, at half-time against West Brom, I was staring at the toilet door and all my worst fears were coming true.
I was making Jerome Thomas look like Ronaldo. It would have been even worse if the referee had spotted my trip on Graham Dorrans in the box.
I deserved a red card; if justice had been done, my career would have finished there and then with a lonely, embarrassed walk to the dressing room.
I’d got off lightly, but I wasn’t going to avoid the wrath of the manager at half-time.
I walked into a predictable, and deserved, blast for poor positioning. Perhaps sensing my troubles, Rio Ferdinand stuck up for me, offering to take the blame for one of West Brom’s chances.
It was good of him to put his hand up because I didn’t have the stomach to argue back at the manager.
All I wanted to do was get through that second half and get home.
Out of the toilet I came and, bizarrely, I enjoyed my 25 minutes after half-time. I felt a renewed sense of calm, probably from knowing it would soon be over.
My mind was back on the job, though my legs were still pleading for a rest.
I went for an attacking run, and it seemed to take all day to get back in position.
There was no chance of me lasting until the final whistle, and when the ball ran out of play near the bench, I saw Mick Phelan wander over for a word.
    ‘You’re f*****, aren’t you?’ ‘Yes.’
Now the end was only seconds away.
I saw Rafael warming up, and soon the board was out – a big No 2, up in lights.
Off I went for the last time. I knew it was over. Gary Neville, the former Manchester United defender.

Still remember Steve Mcmahon mouthing, 1 minute to go, to some of his Liverpool team – mates in that famous game at anfield in 1989. Arsenal needed to win by two clear goals, to win the league. During a stoppage in the game, some of Liverpool’s players(including John Barnes) were seen celebrating. Not for too long though. Super Micheal Thomas broke through Liverpool’s defense to score the decisive second goal! Alan Smith got the first one, but it was Thomas goal, that clinched the league for Arsenal. Karma on this occasion, was with the gooners! :)

We wouldn’t be saying they are dead and buried, would we? So why should they be? They’ll still be a big threat and we expect them to challenge.”

While optimistic about what lies ahead for him this season, Nani sought to end comparisons with his compatriot and former team‑mate Cristiano Ronaldo. “For five years, every time the question is the same,” he said. “It’s all about Ronaldo. You have to be him. Are you doing the same? Do you think you can do it now? Always when I do something good it’s the same. This is my fifth year here and people know what I can do. Sometimes I play a nice game, sometimes I play not such a fantastic game, but I think everyone knows me and what I can do. Now I’m in this position I’m more confident, more consistent. I can do for 90 minutes what in the past I just did for 45, and that’s the most important thing.”

  337. denton davey says:

SmartAlex @ 16:05: “Although everything indicates a three way tussle, Whinger will manage his side quietly into 2nd place”

Again, I’m in disagreement with you. But, of course, we only have opinions to sashay into argument with one another.

To my way of thinking, TheArse have problems in central defence – Mertesacker “might” help them to be resolved but with a new signing you just never know what he will be like (I mean, for example, Vidic was a Serbian international and his first few months in the EPL weren’t very good.) – and I’m not convinced by their midfield, either. With all these new recruits, counted on so heavily, there’s not much margin for error. So, for me, TheArse should be able to easily beat Spurs and fight to edge out LiverPoo for fourth but I’d be surprised to see them get much more than 70 points. Furthermore, I think that TheWhinger is making a bid mistake using RVP as a central striker – he’s much better suited to be “in the hole”.

  338. smartalex says:

    Thanks Cap’n, Salut!

  339. denton davey says:

Costas @ 16:46: “Maybe it’s Sir Alex’s intention to not play as tight as he has in the past. So he doesn’t mind Evra not tracking back fast.”

Much as well all like “attack ! attack ! attack!” that seems unlikely – SAF has always said (and acted as if) a strong foundation is the key to a successful team.

I’m not sure that Patrice Evra’s “problem” is “not tracking back fast” but, rather, losing his “zonal responsibilities” – he seems to go-walkabout and wander out of his zone.

  340. Zibbie says:

Sneer, taking a talent like street fighting, and putting it into say a MMA structure. Doing well at first then hitting a wall. Then working through it. Look into your past find a similar situation. How did you proceed. The Process here will be the same. Your procedural approach you have taken in the past to learn something new, apply it now.
Learning is broken down into Audio, Visual and Kinistetick the act of doing.

    The act itself is.
    1) Recognition
    2) Relationship
    3) Assimilation
    4) Action
I recognize that is important, I can relate to that, I can assimilate it into how to do or use it and put it into action or implement it at the right time.

WillieRedNut @ 17:06: “in most games. Europe is a different matter. The top teams will expose the space in behind. That’s why Park will be, and has been very important to United. He’s a grafter. When we get to the knockout stage in Europe, expect Park to play in every game.”

    Excellent comment.

Although I don’t think “in most games, Europe is a different matter”. A lot of the EuroFootie is against clearly-inferior oppostion – even in the round of 16. But, your point is really that in the hard-fought EuroFootie ties away from home – “the knockout stage in Europe – then the Evra/Park combination is preferable for locking down the opposition – especially away from home.

If you think that Park is an offensive-zero – and that two of Fletcherinho/TomCleverley/Anderson aren’t much more than that – then the “creativity” in attack will have to be provided by some version of TheWayneBoy/DannyWelbeck/Chicharito/AshleyYoung/Nani. That’s not too shabby.

If they play, then SirRyanGiggs and Antonio Valencia are more “tweeners” in that they have proven to be solid defensively and useful in attack – except, of course, against Barcelona BUT THAT’S ANOTHER ISSUE ALTOGETHER.

  345. smartalex says:

    denton davey

It may come as some consolation for you to hear that so far I am alone in my expressed opinions of the likely outcome of the Premiership this season, especially with regard to TheArse. It seems as though I could be in line to make my fortune, should I put my money where my mouth is. Of course, I cannot bring myself to back them with any meaningful amount, lest I lose sight of my priority in even the slightest way.

In fact, that you consider TheArse a serious contender for 4th lifts my spirits, for all others seem expectant that their likely best finish will be somewhere outside the top 4. I have a complicated bet with CedarsDevil that becomes due should they fail that target!

Are you suggesting they should play 4-4-2, and if so, who should play in 9 and 10?

  346. denton davey says:

SmartAlex @ 19:36: “While optimistic about what lies ahead for him this season, Nani sought to end comparisons with his compatriot and former team‑mate Cristiano Ronaldo.”

That seems sensible – they’re very different players. CR7 is all about power; Nani is more of a box-of-tricks. Both terrific players, mind you. I’m glad we have one of them – and, actually, I’m happier with Nani than the pouting CR7 of 2009.

  347. Zibbie says:

    Papii how nice.

Why did God give girls leg’s?
So they wouldn’t leave trails like snails.

  348. denton davey says:

Slim @ 18:06: “kiko kiko kiko kiko kiko kiko kiko kiko kiko”

Yeah; he’s something of a hostage to his own good fortune in scoring THAT GOAL against Villa when he was 17. His head swelled and he’s not really done much improvement since then. But, rather like Anderson, it might take a while but – just maybe – “form is temporary but class is permanent” with KikoTheKid, too. I sure hope so – and I’m still cautiously optimistic that it might be so over the next two years.

  349. Zibbie says:

@smartalex, since I have watched the PL going on 10 years now. I never have seen a reason not to think of the Gunners as title contenders until now. As far as 4th goes until Pool or the Spurs grab it it is the Gunners to loose. I like Goats thought on a proper rival not Russian or Mid-East Oil money and a yard stick of Billionaire dicks.

  350. smartalex says:

denton davey – Poor Nani! He’s always having to answer questions that relate him to his good friend Cristiano. His ‘cross’ to bear! Perhaps one day Ronaldo will be answering questions about Nani the World Player of the Year. We can all dream!

  351. smartalex says:

@Zibbie, the Gunners have been our biggest rivals in the Premiership era, although not for close on a decade. CedarsDevil is hoping they’ve decayed, but I expect they will be filling in 2nd, as Whinger still know the drill, Chelsea are long in the tooth, City will run out of gas, Liverpool are relying on false hope and Spurs are toothless.

I can get blasted for this. I am not from the UK and can only guess and never know how you feel, in this thought towards rivals. How for 1800 years fighting and killing your neighbors and how you feel about Liverpool and Leeds and the rest. Much less Shity.
I loved Berkamp and Peirs and the Gunner attack when I first saw the PL. AW pass his way through MF and the end product was entertaining. Now a shadow of the team that went to the CL final of the CL. I have never known bad times for Man Utd like the 70′s into the 80′s. I am a Chicago Cub lifelong fan. So I know pain. I see the gunners failing, then thank God for SAF and all his success. It can happen to anyone. When I became a Man Utd fan, they were in 3rd, lost out on I think group stage CL and RIO missed a drug test and Becks had a publicist, ABU cunts said it was SAF demise.I saw Roy Keane and this cooler then Clint Eastwood guy on the sideline shooting down stupid questions from the press. Running his club and not letting the players run it. I was sold, a fan for life in like 5 games. I saw the end of the invincible run. Then the begging of the RR Rooney with fire in his eyes, snot flying from his face, lightning shooting out his ass running with this young thorough bread and giving him the hairdryer treatment for selfish play. Ruud gets Rude he is gone. Becks thinks he is bigger then the club GONE. Wow what a Guy to tell Roy your passed it, by and good fortune.

  357. Cyril Sneer says:

@smartalex – Hello sir. I think i’ll split the difference and put the Arse in third place. the rentboys have a few too many miles on the clock and are still dependant on the injury-prone Essien and whatever firepower Drogba still has. I’d also expect this to be the last season for Conchita Torres in the Prem. They’re still too much for the likes of Spurs and the bin dippers but I’m sure Arsey can turn it around and edge them for third place.

Unfortunately the bitters look nailed-on for second place. Their squad is better than last year and we can expect them to buy again in January.

  358. sandeep1878 says:

    @ Denton..

I’m not sure that Patrice Evra’s “problem” is “not tracking back fast” but, rather, losing his “zonal responsibilities” – he seems to go-walkabout and wander out of his zone

    bingo,

tracking back is not an issue of pace but how far your are away from your zone..

when we are against the teams that have strong counter attack or superior quality in final 3rd, it just a matter of few seconds before they make use of that zonal marking,

thats why i say, its a very big risk against the quality opposition..

  359. smartalex says:

I wasn’t disputing that earlier (@ 20:22) but, rather, making a different point – in some of the tough EuroFootie matches the midfielders (Anderson and TomCleverley, as well as DarrenFletcherinho and Michael Carrick) and ThreeLungPark will not be selected for supplying “creativity” but for their ability to graft/hold/contain the opposition. I wasn’t disputing these guys’ ability to work the game both ways but in that reply to WillieRedNut I was making a different point in response to his earlier comment. Context is all.

  381. WillieRedNut says:

    Time to re up!

  382. fergie is the boss says:

King Eric – I totaly agree and this myth the club lacks creativity is getting right on my nerves, so what are valencia nani young rooney giggs etc etc etc are doing, this is without naming anderson and cleverly. PPL need to get over this WS shit and enjoy united playing some of the best footie since our double winning football a few seasons back

  383. The Fly says:

Masters Football on Sky Sports 1 at the moment. Keano’s playing for United in it. Must be the first time in years he’s really been associated with United.

  384. Clint-iamyourpapii says:

Slim – What have I said its either Fella or Papii

It should get RoM’anians through the PL extinction of late.

I’d rather lose than become City.

  387. Costas says:

And since it’s the night of obesity, Capello explains why Mr 35 million didn’t even make the bench:

    http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/news/England-and-Liverpool-striker-Andy-Carroll-shape-up-says-Fabio-Capello-article795056.html?utm_medium=twitter&utm_source=twitterfeed

    @Cyril

 He had to eat a turtle or something to gain so much weight. Poor sod. He was depressed because he’s only making 250k a week.

  388. The Fly says:

Reading through the latest comments about creativity. We scored 8 goals last week, could we be more more boring. Creating 20-25 chances a game. Ashley Young is creating most of these chances, or at least being involved in the build up. We’ve got it fucking sussed on that left side. Evra, Young and Rooney making so much space for themselves it’s unbelievable.

Then on the other side there’s Nani who even when he’s having one of his routine shockers, you still expect him to set up a goal or produce a piece of magic. Valencia coming back too. A total beast of a winger. Collect the ball, beat the full-back, whip in a cross. Predictable at times because of his ridiculous one-footedness, but if he’s on top form there isn’t anyone better.

Rooney is stunning, last year we know what happened and believe me it still pisses me off thinking about that whole episode. But he is and will be sensational this year. Ando higher up the pitch is the best thing that could happen for the lad. He’s in the final third now, like he was in his first year. More than capable of actually shitting on Fabregas. Clev just looks so accomplished for a player who’s only been properly involved for a few months. I see him as a box to box player, that will come when he fills out a bit more, becomes more powerful. Carrick as well. Deeper lying playmaker who if he can match the performance of Schalke away must surely start every game.

Basically what I’ve just wrote doesn’t mean or prove anything. I’m just trying to say that we don’t lack creativity at all. We would not set out and play to the tempo we do if we weren’t certain to create goal scoring opportunities.

  389. Zibbie says:

Hey Fly, the media gets on kicks or catch phrases, one that caught on was the idea that of all the winning Man Utd teams of the past last years had few who would strike fear in the opponents. Lacked creativity well, Berba Lil Pea 20 goals +, Nani was great until he was assaulted by Cara. Rooney post new year found his smile and ankle health at the same time. Giggs, Scholes last hurrah, The twins and Evra. I never bought it. This year even better. A pressing in the top 3rd. Jones tilts the field with his play. TC, Anderson becoming a Man. Nani knowing his performance means playing time or not, he has kicked up his defense.
    3 games 13 goals.

If you let my daughter go now, that’ll be the end of it.
I will not look for you, I will not pursue you.

I didn’t have no favors from you! Don’t slum around me.
Talkin’ about your prime. What about my prime, Mick?
At least you had a prime! I didn’t have no prime. I didn’t have nothin’! Leg’s are goin’, everything is goin’. Nobody’s getting’ no nothin’.
Guy comes up, offers me a fight. Big deal. Wanna fight the fight?
Yeah, I’ll fight the big fight. I wouldn’t wanna fight. Know what’s gonna happen to me?
    I’m gonna get that!
    I’m gonna get that!
And you wanna be ringside to see it? Do ya?
You wanna help me out? Huh?
Do you wana see me get my face kicked in?
Leg’s ain’t workin’, nothing’s workin’, but they go, “Go on, fight the champ.”
Yeah, I’ll fight him. Get my face kicked in.
And you come around here. You wanna move in here with me?
Come on in! It’s a nice house! Real nice.
    Come on in and move.
    It stinks!
    This whole place stinks.
You wanna help me out? Well, help me out!
Come on, help me out. I’m standin’ here!

  401. The Fly says:

fuck me is it boring without the biggest sporting franchise in the world ™. no pre-match or post-match discussion, just nothing to look forward. right about now i’d be watching the highlights for the tenth time, or giving more examples as to why john ‘moscow’ terry is sub-human scum. but internationals just bore me. unless there’s as many united lads as possible in the national team, i’m not affected by it at all. bring on bolton, although that’s always a didgy fixture for us.

  402. united.george says:

I think Tevez’ weight gain is due to the fact that he ate Mascherano over the summer break. It happens….

Bolton will be tricky, coming off their 2 losses, they will want to make a statement with this match. Hopefully the players are ok following tuesday and we can get a result at Bolton.

  403. Zibbie says:

    willie the wolf, LOL!!!!!
Anyone who has participated in combat sport knows a thrill of the battle.
If MMA was around when I grew up I would have threw my hands about.
My younger brother a white boxer, his army base’s middle weight champ.
My older brother street fighter par excellence.
For me wrestling. As a heavyweight when I participated, there was no weight limit.
    Heavyweight wrestled last.
The build up of adrenaline was awesome.
You shake hands and do battle. Like Michael in Michael the movie when he went head to head with a bull and spoke of battles past.
Tournaments were different. 64 bad ass dudes whittled down to 2. 5 wins and still you can go home a looser, not me. Fuck that. Your having a bad ride home mother fucker! Was my thinking.
American football on the line. All out war, oh so fun. Shit you can get 3 to 5 years for on the street is OK there.
When MMA 1st started all the wrestlers kicked all the strikers ass’s.
Rule changes help evolve it to where it is. No head buts or knees to the head while your down made it a great thing to watch.
I hate street fighting things break, no one wins.
One ass at a party pushed it way to far, I bet him I could kick his ass with my hands in my pocket. He said I have to warn you I’m a Back belt and my friends warned him not to do it. I won 250 bucks and he had a ride in a car with lights and attendants. I took it easy on him. And in almost 200 bouts I lost 7 times. Someone always has your number. Always. A guy across town wrestled in collage and placed between 8th and 3rd in the Nation. He on the mat would beat me. On the football field I kicked his ass real bad.
When I was a kid Mike McCgready was the National heavyweight and took 2nd in the world once. I saw the Iowa team practice. Crazy tough people. Not for me past high school.

  404. Zibbie says:

This guy was the life guard at the city pool when I was a kid.

  405. Zibbie says:

At his wrestling camp he had a test for balance he did every year. I was the last of some 150 + kids to do it, we brook into 10 teams for ten teats. I asked what the highest score was, he told me 92 and I asked no one got 100? He laughed at me and said in 10 + years no one got higher then 96. I told watch me get 100 and I did. He saw me some 15 years latter, he told me I still after 1000′s who took the balance test was the only one ever to get 100. He laughed said only you little Zibbie. But he used my real name. He loved my momma’s lasagna.

  406. Zibbie says:

Fogot to say he lived like 6 houses down the street I grew up on, tough street.

  407. Zibbie says:

More enduringly than any other sport, wrestling teaches self-control and pride. Some have wrestled without great skill – none have wrestled without pride.
    - Dan Gable, Iowa Wrestling Hall of Fame Inductee

This guy lost once in his life and beat that man again after that.
In the Olympics no one scored a point on him, on his march to gold.
At his wrestling camp he would pick me out because i was a big kid to show moves on me and beat my ass. He would wrestle me during the camp and leave marks and make me bleed, every practice.

    Within the threads of RoM

“King,” said he, “you do not know
RoMance like a flower grows ”
Hear his words that he might reach you
Take his arms that he might touch you
But his words like silent raindrops fell
And echoed in the wells of silence

  432. jeet says:

    DESTINY

Yesterday, I realized the meaning of the word “Destiny”. I was supposed to receive somebody at the rail station early yeaterday morning. Once I reached, I got to know the train was 2 hrs late. “Bloody hell, I havent had breakfast”, I thought. Eateries outside the station were filthy, and the decent ones hadn’t opened yet. So I thought of taking a tuk-tuk to the nearest all-night McD, which was 10 min away, bang in the heart of the city center. The tuk tuk guy was standing outside his vehicle, and I fixed the price. As we were getting in, he suddenly stops dead in his tracks, hesitates for a second, bends down, and picks up something from the street and puts it in his pocket. Three feet behind him, with trained eyes as sharp as a hawk’s, I see what it is – a large pack of the green stuff, which must have fallen from some poor soul’s pocket!!! Just before I got down, I tell him, “I saw what you picked up, and I want some of it”. Guy breaks into a grin, shares some. It’s seven in the morning on a Sunday, totally deserted. I have a hearty breakfast, and sit in the middle of what is usually the busiest, and most cop-infested part of the city, rolling. It’s a beautiful day, cool and breezy, with the aftertaste of the last night’s rain still in the air. I start feeling like Samuel Jackson in Pulp fiction.
In the end, the train was almost five hours late, in the end, but I didnt seem to notice.

PS: Apologies if I offend anybody with descriptions of my near-criminal exploits… :)

  433. jeet says:

Should we start addressing KE as Courtney? :)
