VIDEO: Goal of the Season Competition

With the season drawing to a close, we’ve run a competition to decide on our goal of the season and have an official United away shirt to give away as the prize, thanks to SoccerPro.com.

We were inundated with entries and tried to form a shortlist, based upon the quality of technique, the lead up to the goal, the quality of the opposition and the importance.

We’ve put together a nice little compilation based on the most popular suggestions.

However, our goal of the season, down to the sheer quality of the strike, is Darren Fletcher’s opener against Everton. Chelsea had gone 8 points clear at the top of the table earlier that day so the pressure was on and Fletch, like usual, rose to the occasion. It has to be noted that Michael Owen and Paul Scholes’ late winners against City brought about a greater celebration though and rank highly amongst our best moments of the season.

Congratulations to Warih Sugiarta from Indonesia. A shirt will be in the post.

Thank you Scott, just a fantastic montage, bless you.Its Tricky for me here, lol trying to listen on line to a Match between Celtic and the Gers watch your video, Admire the togethernes at the In Club celebrations at Old Trafford and awaiting for the awards.I personally because I love Nani for skill , his goal against Bayern was class to set a Ghost to rest. Technique at the Emirates, bang bang bang. But to keep the season going, Paul. its all what you see as a great, important goal.
My nomination Paul against Shitty and boys lets hope for all hope they are stopped tommorow night.

  9. Danillaço says:

Fantastic video, congrats and thanks Scott. I think that the Nani’s goal against the germans was a beauty for the whole play, Rooney inversion was fantastic, Valencia’s moves, timing and cross, to match with perfectly and magnificent finish by our Michael Jackson (without the whole i love children lifestyle).

  10. Molly's Chambers says:

Apparently Jonny Evans has signed a 5 year deal, TBA next few days.

  11. james21 says:

That goal by Fletch was total class but for me Rooney at the Emerates just for the gut busting run, started the move and finished in style.

  12. redscot says:

Bang bang…… Wayne…… fucking classic! Goal of the Season, with Nani’ s help. lol

  13. Fred says:

    @Jimmy21 – spot on.

@Molly’s Chambers – I hope that’s true. There’ll certainly be whiskey in my jar if it is. ;-)

  14. redscot says:

Pure Scots ” it looks bleak at this moment in time” if you see players everday that enjoy training”
” no reason to think than other than carrying on” Planted into Manchester united box to box. Fuckin Star…… ooopsie Sir Alex

  15. Paul Parker says:

So many quality goals, but the Season is long so for me its easier to favour the more recent ones after Christmas…. But I agree with Fletcher’s choice as the top goal. Why Not Aye? It was a beautiful strike, a true striker’s goal, struck as hard and as far away from the Keeper as possible. Fletch had his shot under control at all times, great technique and confidence when we needed it. The Perfect Strike.

But then again… Owen v City? top of my head this for me was our goal of the season.
Fucking Quality in the dyin seconds of a big game. In hindsight that goal was HUGE.

Although…. Rooney’s header against Milan was HUGE too.

… then there’s Nani’s chip against Spurs? Great composure when it mattered. Class.

…and Berbatovs Cycle against Sunderland anyone? he wasnt all flicks at Spurs, he
was also known for snatchin important goals outta thin air with pieces of skill like this.

Ahem… and Scholes unbelievable tekkers on his standing leg v AC was class too :)

we’ve had some memorable goals this Season, and yet the best from our current squad is yet to come, just wait till Hernandez arrives !!! wait till Anderson returns !!! More Goals from Gibson, Nani and Valencia !!! and don’t forget Kiko Diouf and Owen – Super Subs Extraordinaire !!!

  16. jespermoses says:

for sheer excitement, nothing can touch Owens goal…simple.

  17. Always Be Closing says:

Completely agree jespermoses, that goal was and still is absolutely amazing to watch. Gives me shivers every time I watch it. :D

  18. themufc1999 says:

Wheres rooneys against arsenal. That was a fuckin classic.

  19. Sir Fergie says:

I think next season, should he stay fit, that Owen should get a chance to be Rooneys strike partner. There’s no doubt his positional play and finishing is still top class (as we all saw against City…), and he still seems to have some pace, maybe not as much as when he was younger, but thats happens to everyone. The only thing keeping this from happening would be his inconsistent fitness…

  20. Kai_Erick_Malaysia says:

my choice is Owen goal against Shitty…dude, my heart almost stop when owen scored in injury time…

  21. manci_yanky says:

    I BELIEVE!!!!

  22. Androo says:

That’s the one I voted for the ManUtd.com. Zidane-esque strike. Brilliant.

  23. Sir Alex's Son says:

Flecher’s strike against everton has always surpassed every other goal this season, in terms of shear quality and technique.
When it came to build up with high octane features, its got to be Rooney’s vs L’Arse.
Pure excitement, surely Owen’s vs city and Apostle Schole’s vs city. Have city been tormented by two footballing geniuses or what!!!!!!

  24. BerbaLOVE says:

Berbatovs goal against Sunderland, without a doubt!

But what about Dimitars goal against Blackburn? that goal was absolutely amazing

  25. Unitedordeath says:

I’ll take Scholes-y’s goal against City… Great compilation, Scott. Music choice was interesting though…

  26. Fred says:

    “BerbaLOVE says:

Berbatovs goal against Sunderland, without a doubt!

But what about Dimitars goal against Blackburn? that goal was absolutely amazing”

  27. lymanunited81 says:

nani’s back heal flick was my goal of the season. at that point i was 4 pints down and sure we were through to the semi’s. then another goal!? all i can say is i hadn’t felt that broken since we lost in 07 at milan. bring on silva, bale, and modric we’ll be in the final next year.

  28. torbis says:

Fletchers goal has high standards! I’m enjoying such a goal from him! But we have to admit, scholesy’s goal against Shity wasn’t that nice, it was just important! So I’m up for Fletch or Valencias goal vs. Wolves

  29. torbis says:

    @ lymanunited81

    Why Bale?
