Is it any wonder Sir Alex Ferguson complains about the referee when they persist in making truly awful decisions?!
Notice the Portsmouth players complaining when the whistle is blown, believing a freekick has been given against them for jumping in on Tomasz Kuszczak. Not a single Portsmouth player appeals for a penalty.
Fact is, if France had been knocked out of the World Cup because Robbie Keane handled in the lead up to the defining goal, Michel Platini would be working on introducing video refereeing to the game. As it is, we’re stuck with shit decisions like this, week in week out.

Man Utd News 24/7

who cares we just scored! Fucking Yeeeeessss!
It’s a penalty cuz it’s against United.
ROONEY
It’s very clear as to why it’s a penalty.
Vidic is clearly, CLEARLY, wearing a United shirt.
Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeessssssssssssssssssssss! Again
Rooooooooooooooooonnnneeeeeeeeeeeeeeyyyyyyyy a nearly classic hatrick
That United, eh? The decisions always go for them, never against them.
Responding with two goals is besides the point. That decision could have royally fucked us over.
WAZZA hat-trick. Right decision. It’s like Ref’s will give us something then realise that they hadn’t yet screwed us over.
Another decision for my list.
brett – Go on son, add it to your dossier!
Great form from shity never mind tick tock, it shud be dream on, always in our shadow.
100th premier league goal for Giggs. Kuszack man of the match for me.
Yeah Mr. Kuszak was solid today. I think benny was wright , he is NUMBER 3 at United. Why the hell forsters is complaining about?
‘ello all im back
United brilliant,i’ve heard that before
Hate to say thins, but I thought the ref was good. his only mistake was listening to his hopeless Linesman.
Did the Linesmen switch sides at the half? I thought the lino was on the far side of the pitch when he called the penalty, but he was on the near side when Gary Neville drew a card by getting clobbered by a late slide tackle. If the Lino was on the near (tV) side, that’s even MORE shocking a decision to listen to the penalty claim.
SB
excellent performance today…All over them in the second half and Wazza and Valencia were on fire!
Giggsy was awesome too and the ref was spot on with both our penalties
sorry to go against the grain here but that was a penalty, Vida clearly pulls his shirt and that is foul play. What Fergie complains about apart from the odd shocking decision is inconsistency. ie: How does one ref without any hesitation give us a penalty for the challenge on Rooney and yet another books Evra for diving in the week? For me the one on Evra was a much easier decision to make. FZE123 Yup, Kuszack man of the match the save in the 90th minute was magic.
But, in the end, MU won the games…
Ive watched the clip 3 times now and i still dont see whats happened for the ref to give the penalty?
For around 4/5 seasons now refs have been letting the game down, not just for United but for all teams its becoming a joke now, its not just one or two terrible dicisions a season, its one or two week in week out.
Video technology isnt something im to keen on, i think refs need to be trained better they need to assert more authority in a fair manner so that all teams are in the same boat. Rugby referees are top class and football referees need to take note. Maybe having a tiny microphone on the refs would stop supporters feeling wrongly done by so atleast that way people would know whats going on, they do that in rugby and everyone knows whats what.
I think its vidic who pull the shirt which causes the referee to give. However, i find that in every other matches, there are so many doing this like drogba who did to brown. It’s the consistency which is ignoring me. Valencia is awesome today. See the run and the pace he got which create the first goal for Rooney. I glad i supported him when everyone is saying how can he replace Ronaldo. Ha! Anyone who writes him off, see it!!!
not really a penalty, granted vida was holding his shirt, but not enuf to stop the lad jumping to head it which he wouldnt have got either way as kuszcak was committed.
id be interested to know wat scholesy said to him, blatantly pointing at the ref repeatedly and having a go…
The linesman was definitely sympathetic towards Pompey as I think he might be taking a few days off down south after the game. That is my cynical view. The other view is the refs sending a message towards SAF. Another cynical view I’m afraid, but the cynicism is real and justified.
I thought their penalty decision was shocking.. Vidic gave him a small tug on the shirt and that happens with every defender on every set piece in every match. Consistency is right, if you’re gonna call that then every referee needs to call them if they are gonna crack down on it. Valencia was man of the match for me followed closely by Rooney and Kuszack. Kuszack should definately push on from here and try to claim the #1 Jersey based on this performance.. he was a bloody MONSTER!! Foster, eat your heart out.. A nice draw tomorrow and it’ll be a good wkd
I you’ve seen the replay from the linesman’s angle, you can see Vidic clearly pulling the Pompey players shirt. The rulebook says that’s a penalty, so the assistant referee is right unfortunately. What REALLY annoys me though, is that United is always the team made an example of! From the banning of Scholes and Rooney for pre season sending offs, to Nevilles fine for celebrating, Evra’s 4(!) match ban without any video footage, etcetc.. The list goes on and on! But we won and Rooney is my fantasy manage captain, so I’m not too aggrieved right now
*if
scholsey was reminding the prat that he was the referee and not the retard running the lines. theres a BIG reason “assistant referees” are only just bloody assistants.
Come on Scott! Lets have the Giggsy goal!
It doesn’t matter that we won the game. Come back and say that when a decision that goes against us ends up costing us points.
It’s ridiculous to disregard decisions when the day turns out favourable for us. We won’t always be able to overcome shoddy decisions, so it’s important to have consistency in highlighting such poor decisions.
By laws of the game a foul – by the way the game is played – no where close. Can’t believe a call like that, not after Brown gets taken out by Drogba and nothing given not mention if those are called each game, all we’ll have is 10 penalties a game.
Ridiculous bit of reffing today.
The ref didn’t give it the lineo did, how the fcuk did he see it? xray fcuking vision.
In a normal game we would have won 2-0 with no penalties.. The first one was clear but not usually given, the second two are fouls by the book but should never been given.
So i take it..
What i like to take out of this game is the performance.. We were awful before the break and desperatly needed Fergie half time speech, so I was worried.
But in second half we were really really great.. Giggs, Valencia and Rooney were immense in second half
Im really glad Rooney got the hat trick but:
Valencia is my MOM
if this fu$%^g ref doesnt give another penalty for this shirt pulling offence in another i hope fergie will smash his fuc#$%g face into the toilet.
Bebeto& Shimo: It already has cost us MASSIVE points. As Shimo says Drogba on Brown and that is mine and Fergies point…..Consistency! Shimo I don’t know if you saw the game live but in the second half I didn’t see ANY shirt pulling in the area at corners! I wonder why?
People ain’t acknowloging how fantastic this result is. 4-1 away against a battling Pompy side managed by the human scrote.
Wazza hat-trick. Don’t get better than that really.
Giggsy 100th league goal. Congratulations.
Valencia is quality.
Jimmy Bullard is a great person. Tick Tock Tick Tock, City draw, there’s a shock.
It’s a beautiful day.
If decisions like this are given as penalty then we’ll have double digit scorelines in most of the games.
No Mohit! Once a penalty is given for shirt pulling the shirt pulling stops!
Just saw the video for the fifth time, and I still cant fathom what the penalty was given for.
@Red army
The tick tock is for sparky, only a matter of time. Jimmy bullard celebrition was funny, dont think the deluded sheep in the stands thought it was funny.
lmao… i saw loads of shirt pulling in the box in the second half.. but nothing given.. the linesmen is a cunt.. that shud have never been a peno.. but on the other hand.. valencia was awesome.. and PIG in goal did well!!.. also rooney scored a hat trick but then i didnt see him make a pass? lmao scores a hat trick and plays poorly.. but we’l take it
COME ON UNITED!!
Scott The Red
You have to agree that this angle shows that the pen is not that cheap..
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lVPc1g1OoBk
Unnecessary Vidic!
At first I thought the same thing. But then later when they started to replay it from a decent angle you can clearly see that it is a penalty. Vidic does this way too often but most of the times he positions himself in a way so the ref does not see. But this was not needed and rightly a penalty.
But still this is done in every free kick and in every corner and usually we don’t see this given as a penalty. But this shirt pulling was just as clear as the sun (from the right angle).
Just love the picture. Veterans
http://img32.imageshack.us/img32/6626/oldarmy.jpg
Guys this is just shit refereeing and regardless of us winning today these things should be stamped out of football the consistency is pure piss take. i’m very happy we won today and i have to say that valencia is the best natural winger in the prem league and in the world if not one of the best in the world. after today’s performance which was world class and hreidarsson could’nt handle his pace. best past yet is he has’nt hit top form. he has proven to me he’s a fantastic signing and i did’nt doubt his talent once since he signed for us and to add for me he is certainly a first team starter. the RIGHT wing is HIS i tell ya!:-) wonderful hattrick by wayne. for a second i was startled at the fact when Scott posted a stats article showing wayne scored 12 goals in 30 games yet now he has 11 in 14. excellent start to the season. long may it continue wayne and hope everyone chips in throughout the season. next up spurs. onwards and upwards!:-)
stone wall penalty lads. Vidic nearly ripped the jersey off him. not even Fergie can argue with that decision and yes, I am a united fan.
Good. These are the types of games we have to win with the type of margins we need. Chelsea look really strong and we should be canning these lower teams. Nice to see Rooney get a hat trick, glad the “one footed” crap comments re Valencia have stopped, he is quality. With Obertan on the wing also I think SAF has picked the right ones. Centre mid-field is the only weakness though Valencia- Fletcher-Hargreaves/Scholes-Obertan/Giggs looks solid.
It will be interesting to see what happens in the Spurs game, they are in good form so it will be interesting. Their defence is not looking so good but their forwards, Defoe are on fire. I have to admit Vidic is not looking the same player, maybe his concentration is not quite there because of all the speculation he is leaving. Our defence Evra and VDS and Kuszak aside do need to step up a bit more against attacking teams. We do not look as solid at the back as we did last year and we need a Hargreaves in their against attacking teams like Spurs and Barca.
By the rules it’s a foul, but you just simply can’t give a penalty for that.
United had 8 corners kicks in that game. So you are telling me that there was no shirt pulling of a similar nature. I highly doubt it.
Ridicules and unfair decision to give a Penalty kick, Epically when you are giving David N’gog a Penalty for Diving, Or letting Chelsea take massive points of us for highly dubious goals.
The penalty situation looked weird at the start… but later i saw Vidic was clearly holding a pompey players shirt.. anyways good performance.. scholesy is growing a nice beard and were putting pressure on chelski….
The angle supposedly implicating Vidic also happens to show Dindane holding onto him. It was gamesmanship from both of them in attempting to gain the advantage.
The refs seem to want to make a statement to SAF. If going by the rules of the game then what Vidic did was a penalty. But we see that more than a couple of times a game and no penalty is ever given that I know of. The other ridiculous thing about the decision is that the linesman gave it from halfway across the pitch. Is he Superman to see a foul in a crowded penalty box from halfway across the pitch when the ref was almost in line and did not give anything. This is bullshit!!! We are getting idiots for refs and linesmen ruining the game. With these kinds of refereeing standards, I dont see any other way but to introduce video replays. Not that I like it but we seem to have no choice.
Interesting comments about Pompey’s penalty. The Guardian said it was because Videc was shirt pulling, The Mirror said Kusczak was holding the Pompey forward. My initial reaction was that the ref. had blown because of a foul on UTD’s GK. The TV commentators were completely mystified. The incident was replayed about 6/8 times and still they couldn’t see any infringement. Their final comment was that if refs are going to give pens for shirt tugging then we’re going to see plenty of pens from now on. Lets see what happens at the Emirates – Chelsea are past masters at this sort of thing. Lets see if they’re penalised.
Shirt pulling happens, little shoves, holding in the box, from both sides but, what Vida did was something that happens up and down football. Dindane at the end wasn’t impeded and got a clean jump at the ball.
Remember Berba ripping someone’s shirt a few weeks back in our peno box?
It’s fine to give it as a penalty if it happens consistently. Maybe make for a cleaner game if they called every ticky tacky infringement but, come on – that is never given as a penalty and it is only given when the refs are trying to make up for something or stick it to someone.
By that account if Brown is shoving Giggs in the back and even if he is pulling out of it – he’s made contact, by letter of the law a foul, it happened in the box, penalty but, it wasn’t given and that impeded Sir Ryan more than the shirt pull by Vida.
I actually think the ref was correct in the decision, the problem is though that this foul goes on 20 times a match and often impact the play more than Vidic’s did (The tug of the shirt didn’t impact the pompey players jump) and if this ref is going to givea foul against Vidic then it needs given to every shirt tug in the box (be it by the Attacker or Defender). Will be fun as a large number of goals will suddenly be disallowed and we will have 10 penalties per game for a month or so
strictyl speaking, letter of the law, it was a certain pen, as vidic was pulling his shirt. but no one gives those!
that fuckin ref decision costed me moneyyyyyy
There will be no outcry because United won 4-1 and got 2 pens. The problem is that if the refs are all trying to show how they have big enough balls to give pens against us for something that happens 10 times in each box, in every game it’s going to hurt us sometime in the near future.
Lets try to make asmuch noise about this on all the football sites and blogs.
never a pen in a million years! seems to me mike dean had his mind made up b4 he made the fuckin decision! outrageous!
WAKEY come on ffs, if your gonna give pens for shirt tuggin, we should have had plenty already this season! and if your gonna give pens as soft as that, your setting a presedent for the rest of the campaign! fact! excuse the fsw reference… lol
If that was a pen, then we would see hockey scores in football. Although I have to say the defending at times was shocking. Scratch that it was almost always shocking. Kuszczak should get the next game too and a few more if possible. His performance demands it. Boatang looks like he has a something about him. Rooney was magnificent and it was good to see Scholes rolling back the years. But seriously, the defence needs to be sorted out. Pick a back four and play them week in and week out. Rotation is messing with them i think.
tommorow will indeed be interesting! lets see if the boys in black are consistant enough to give decisions in the box that are in the moment and called into question! my bet is they’ll bottle em as per fuckin usual! its just plain old fuckin bias! we are(whether we like it or not) victimised and very hard done by in this league and in europe because we are united and its very annoying, especially when the decision thats gone against us today didnt cost us points when it very well could have done in a different game when the stakes were higher! i’m tellin ya…its a conspiracy and the refs are out to fuckin get us! i’m hopin we can overcome this by scoring more goals than the ref! and oppo teams! come on lads, dont let the fuckers grind you down! btw, ryan…thankyou! pls carry on!
20legend…i agree about the back 4. we need a settled defense and clearly, fergie is tinkering with the side more than fuckin ranieri did at chel$ki! not good! our defense in 08 is what won us the double but to dwell on it too much is a mistake tbh.
i also agree about kuzczack as well. foster had his chance and unfortuatley hasnt made the grade in my opinion.
STONEWALL PENO
iT WOULD NEVER BE GIVEN TO UNIYRD
BUT VIDIC WAS HANGING OUT OF THE GUYS JERSEY
HAPPY BIRTHDAY SIR RYAN
Just off topic a little. I’ve been really impressed with Valencia. But has anyone ever seen him kick a ball with his left foot?
Had one chance he elected to hit with the outside of his right. Had another chance to spring Wazza, but was looking the opposite way because of his left foot again.
http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2009/11/28/article-1231663-0763FAB2000005DC-731_468x350.jpg
Checkout that link – right after the penalty is given for shirt tugging – the Portsmouth player is doing it on Fletcher. That kind of ticky tack play goes on all day long and unless it is blatantly holding back a player – they are never given. Dindane got to jump for the ball just fine at the end of the day.
Thank goodness it didn’t affect the outcome.
if that was a stonewall penalty guys, then there would just about be a penalty given from every corner, every free kick, and every ball ever played into a box in every game. Ridiculous decision.
Technically it was a penalty but then technically there would be a penalty every time there’s a set piece. It was a stupid decision and just the latest in a long line of ridiculous decisions that have gone against us this season.
The funniest thing was Avram Grant saying that our 2 penalties were soft(!) while he has no opinion about their penalty. This guys still doesn’t know how to lose. Hopefully 4 goals at OT will shut him up for good.
@Costas et al
That was a penalty. To the letter of the law. Simple as.
But the point is that kind of shirt pulling happens in every game at every level up and down the country day in day out but they are rarely ever given.
So why was it given against United? That is the real question.
Also just wanna say Tomasz Kuszak made some really good saves yesterday. The reflex save where it hit the bar was top drawer. That performance should push him past Ben Foster.
Congratulations to Ryan Giggs. It’s saying something about the United midfield that he is still putting those kinds of perfomances in at this stage of his career. Brilliant invention and creativity. True professional.
You wonder where it’s gonna come from when he finally does retire!
@Alpha_RS: It could be a pen. Not denying that. I am bemused for the same reason you are. Why is it that United are the first team to get a penalty like that against them.
And i agree about Tomasz. He has had a torrid time this season. When Edwin was out, he was on the bench and when VDS came back he was still on the bench(i think Foster hasn’t sat on the bench too much). That has to be so frustrating. Lets see where this performance takes him. He is a certain starter for Tottenham in my eyes.
@Costas
We’ll see how much shirt pulling goes on in the Arsenal v Chelsea game later on this afternoon and whether the referee blows up for a penalty. I’d rather Arsenal beat Chelsea today. A penalty against John Terry would be great. Especially if it was an unjust one. Then he’ll know how it feels!
Tomasz Kuszak did a really good job yesterday. It would be interesting to make a comparison between the performances of Tomasz Kuszak and Ben Foster. Ben Foster has made a fair few howlers. Most notable against Man City, Arsenal, Sunderland come to mind. The only brilliant save I remember was the one from Van Persie against Arsenal. He hasn’t really taken his chance like say Johnny Evans did when Vida and Rio were injured. There seems to be a fair few balls coming in to the box that the keeper is forced to deal with though as the central defenders don’t seem to be getting their head on the ball though!
jamie and 20legend – We can’t keep a settled back four at the moment due to injuries. Fabio, Rio, Evans, O’Shea are all injured.
Alpha_RS
Had Portsmouth player gone down that would have been definite penalty IMO. But he neither appealed nor he went down. That was really unfair penalty.
And about Foster he also made couple of brilliant saves against Wigan and one against Birmingham City. Also a good one against Barnsley.
It’s a pen cos Vida was shirt pulling. I have no problem with this cos, after all, it is a foul and if it happened at the other end of the pitch we wouldn’t be complaining. The problem I have and probably everyone else has is the lack of consistancy in these decisions. Shirt pulling in the box goes on all the time so if you award one pen you really should be awarding about ten every match and that will never happen.
It shouldn’t be a penalty, Vida did pull the shirt but with the right amount of force and he did let the Pompey dude to jump for the header. Unless Vida pulled Pompey dude too hard that he can’t even jump and fell to the ground, that would be a clear penalty.
There’s enough paranoia round here to make a schizophrenic look sane, lol. Vidic had a handful of shirt – if the opposition did that against you, would you be saying it wasn’t a pen?
If a penalty was awarded every time shirts were pulled in the box, we’d have rugby scores every week!
The fact that Vidic lets go of his shirt when the ball comes in, allowing the player to jump for the ball, only adds to the fact a pen was a wrong decision.
Not a single Pompey player appealed for a pen. That tells you all you need to know.
Definitely a pen! My only beef is that one ref can see that one but another completely misses Drogba doing GBH on Wes Brown.
