  2. godzilla says:

thanks Scott. you are really quick with the Videos!! Keep up the awesome work with ROM!

  3. Evan says:

The commentator seems a bit disappointed when we got the second goal lol. But fair play to Southampton, the played really well and might have deserved the win more. Although we were absolutely dire in the first, I love this team’s ability to spring back, even if it was against opposition we should have beaten easily.

Gibson needs to go in my opinion. Players obviously need time to develop, and he may just be going through a rough patch a la Jonny Evans. But I think Gibson has consistently shown that he cannot pass effectively. Whatever his shooting ability, we need players like Giggs and Scholes who can effectively dictate the tempo of a match. Gibson does not have that ability, but anyway. I thought Anders did a pretty good job, particularly in his distribution bar a couple of miskicks. And nobody could’ve saved that goal, it was a pretty much unstoppable shot!

  4. Wednesdayx says:

Owen played well and scored, good that he still has it and now… Rooney should be dropped for Owen on tuesday!!! :) and my Javi well he just has those natural goal instincts (sighs)

  5. Costas says:

Chaffed for both of them. They were probably our best players all throughout the game.

  6. SITS says:

My biggest issue with Gibson is his positioning. He is very static and doesn’t offer a way out for the team.

  7. Dr.Hannibal says:

world cup;FA Cup, league, Carling Cup, Community Shield and Champions Leag Hernandez! lad scored in all fuckn brillant,,

  8. United4eva says:

Twice in a week we start 4-3-3 and look rubbish then change after the hour to 4-4-2 and win the game anyone else thinking we need to stop this packing the midfield rubbish ala Chelski and stick to our tradition of fast, aggressive, wing play? Without service into the box the likes of Chicho and Owen are ineffective. They’re finishers not creators so lets play to their strengths. Get the ball wide and get it into the box so they can attack it cos as we saw today if they get clear cut chances they’ll score.

  9. berbatunday says:

Dr. Hannibal, you forgot qualifiers, even friendly matches….he was born to score!

  10. pritch the red says:

Much better when giggs and nani came on .Gibson has to go he was playing against a league 2 side and he was clueless hernandes looks like he will score everytime he touches the ball.Off topic my best mate just txt me he is a scouse season ticket holder (stupid twat) he says on liverpoo kopites website city are going to bid £70 million for torres the bid includes adam johnson.

  11. Gaurav says:

I am so tired of these comebacks.. lets kick on and “smash it”

  12. smartalex says:

Strikers scoring goals, medals being struck, trophies at the engravers, come on United!

  13. nani4ever says:

I only have one thing to say, Scott the Red u need to put up a poll once an for all if gibson is any good not to mention utd class, but i already know the result. CLEARLY NOT even Stevie wonder could see that. The worst thing about this is we let eirkrem go when he could have been groomed in these fixtures, but he wasn’t good enough and gibson is what a joke. April fools is it april yet

  14. Costas says:

    @United4eva

The danger with playing 4-4-2 away from home is that we will lose the midfield battle. The Fulham game early in the season was a great indication. We played very well going forward, but there were gaps everywhere in midfield. I don’t know if there is a correct recipe at the moment..

  15. StScholesOfSalford says:

Another recovery from being is all good, but why cant we just start games with the same mentality we have if weve condeded a goal or 2??

I know its been said but Gibson isnt Utd standard. Hes shown one moment of decent play since THAT goal but been a let down nearly every other time. Not saying hes not a decent player, hes just not cut out to be in our midfield. Maybe some one like Fulham/Wigan etc would suit him better.

Any news on why Fabio went off?

SAF pls sign a creative midfielder!!! We have nearly every other position covered (bar GK) but we need some one in the middle of the park to boss it and put out them sweeping defence splitting passes.
Rooney could possibly get that free role behind the strikers that would mean he can join in an attack but also allow us to keep a 442 like we did with Ronaldo.

Another ‘job done’ performance, but by no means a convincing one. Teams like Blackpool and Southampton shouldnt be bossing us into leaving it late to kill off a game.

  16. willierednut says:

Costas – Chaffed? That lisp needs looking at mate lol.

  17. Costas says:

My hand got stuck on F, lol. Geez willie, are you the resident spell checker or something? :D

  18. rat1p says:

its not my way to defend gibson but some of the comments are far from reality yeah i dont think he is united material but to be fair obertan and anderson(passes?) werent very great today and yes i know obertan contributed smthg to the first goal….
1.after all we should be happy that we won and have such great players like giggs, nani who can change a game completely
2.we dont have to play a rematch

  19. nani4ever says:

Can some tell me why we ke0ep playing an imbalance 4-4-2 every time away from home with 30 central midfielders and then seeing it blow up in our face and then have to revert to our proper balance of two wide men, costas@ or someone check the stats i think only everton early in the season we played with out natural with a droped points

  20. King Eric says:

Owen had a good game. Almost playing as a midfielder. What he has lost in pace he makes up for intelligence. He created the move for his goal with his ball out wide to obertan. Scholes is just a genius. Gibson and anderson were both poor and guilty of giving the ball away far too often. Giggs and nani changed the game we were far too narroq first half. And what can you say about hernandez. Eleven fucking goals. Gonna be a star that kid almost ALL his goals have been vital ones. Well it was almost a third team tonight and they did the job second half. Love the way we are coming back this season. We didn’t have that ability last season. Looking forward to park and tony back gives us much more options. Lindergaard looked steady for his debut. One defeat in thirty five is pretty fucking impressive yet fuck all credit from rentboy big nosed townsend. He was gutted. Since when did he become so bitter and anti united? The fans were fucking excellent. Ten minute rendition of viva ronaldo. That banner was class as well. Once more than england. World champions twice. A full team rested now for tuesday. Onwards and upwards.

  23. Costas says:

    I tried looking into it.

We’ve played with 2 wide men (either with 4-4-2 or 4-3-3) at Bursaspor, Rangers, Valencia, Fulham, Everton, Bolton, Man C, Villa, West Ham (LC) and Spurs.

    3 wins out of 10

We played with just one winger and some kind of makeshift winger at Scunthorpe(LC), Sunderland, Stoke, Brum, West Brom, Blackpool and SOuthampton.

    5 wins out of 7

Don’t know if the problem is with playing two wingers or the system itself.

  24. willierednut says:

Costas – Just keeping you in check mate, you’re off your game lately lol.

  25. United4eva says:

    @costas

I don’t think you can consider the 4-3-3 system we’ve used this season as having two ‘wingers’. Inside forwards yes but not wingers who get down the byline in the tradition of Hill and Coppell or Kanchelskis and Giggs.

I just think we show too much fear these days. Once upon a time we would just go for broke and impose our game on the opposition. I remember the swashbuckling days of 1999 to 2001 where we won three titles on the bounce and, of course, the Treble. I don’t like the idea that United should fear our opposition.

We beat Chelski in the Community Shield with a 4-4-2. We went to Spurs with a 4-4-2 and had the chances to win even with 10 men. Why change what ain’t broke?

  26. nani4ever says:

costas@ thanks but i’m not sure we played with our natural 4-4-2 width against villa and bolton, but against valencia, fulham and everton the problem was we sat back and invited pressure when we had leads expecially against everton and you are not taking into account the darren gibson factor, I think he only played in two games this season that we didn’t drop points

  27. Costas says:

    @nani4ever

On paper it was 4-4-2 in those games and we started with 2 wide players. But again, Park is not exactly that is he? I don’t remember where exactly those wingers played during the game.

As for Gibson, he’s played in 12 games in all competitions and we won 9. And we’ve won 5 games out of the 7 he has started. But it’s not about any one player really.

  28. United4eva says:

    @costas

Sorta. I’d say one player is a huge miss: Antonio Valencia. Out of all our wingers, barring Giggsy, he’s the most orthodox and his absence has made a huge difference to our attacking play. Subtly without us noticing Valencia’s ability to get down the byline and put consistently good balls into the box became a major part of the post-Ronaldo Old Trafford attacking unit. With his pace and power Valencia offers the outball thats been often lacking this season as well as the quick cross into the box that our strikers can attack.

    We reall miss this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EJTYbm3_eNc

If we had Nani on the left like he was today leaving defenders with twisted blood and Valencia putting the ball in behind defences, forcing centre halves to defend on the run we’d be an awesome attacking unit.

4-4-2 is the way to go but it won’t work right until we get Valencia back. Until then we’ll just have to hope Giggsy’s fitness holds up and Nani continues to play well.

  29. smartalex says:

I have been looking at Costas stats on the post at 21:03 with open mouthed astonishment for half an hour. All the Gibson attackers are skipping the thread each time they see it. I’m copying it over to the Reaction thread.

  30. Ulster Red says:

well fucking done michael owen, hasnt been getting the credit he was due on that performance, what a finish, as usual little pea is just a player we have on our hands that makes great great reading for our future, like so many. how fucking blessed are we to have this team.

  31. nani4ever says:

Yea we won all those games because he was substituted either at the half our just after when Sir Alex woke up a realize we were throwing away three points.

  32. wruth03 says:

Ulster red I agree Owen is not given the credit he deserves. Personally I think Fergie should give him more game time. Fergie keeps promising to give him games but since he said that he has scarcely allowed him on the pitch at all. Don’t get me wrong I am not saying that he should start every week but surely he deserves more playing time than he has been given. What really riles me is seeing Rooney always in the starting line up and doing little to deserve it. For me I would start with Berbatov and Hernandez with Owen coming on from the bench. Make Rooney fight for his place at the moment there is no incentive for him to improve as he knows he doesn’t have to as he cannot be dropped. That is surely wrong.

  33. red_october says:

Both goals were great Chicharito is a new breed of goalscorer.
