I’m so happy to see Park playing this way for us. There have been one or two games when Ji was really good for Man Utd but never the same player he is for South Korean where he gets on the ball lots and takes the game to defenders on the run. At long last however Ji’s showing the form that got him the move from PSV and ain’t it a blessing he has! With no Nani, Valencia, Anderson, Carrick and Scholes til the last quarter of the match not to mention the absence of Berba and the fact that most of our players were either chucking up or had the runs we needed someone to stand up and be counted today and thats what Ji did.
Amazing isnt it? This season everytime someone’s form has dipped someone else’s has improved to compensate. When Rooney went off the boil Berba stepped in, when Berba’s form dipped Nani starting turning it on, Nani had a few quiet games but Chicho then manned up, Chicho not had much of a sniff past two weekends no big Ji does the business. The resilience of our squad is superb. Nobody is hiding. Nobody is making excuses e.g. We dont have X,Y and Z. And when we need a little something extra we see individuals like Ji did today taking it on themselves to make it happen.
Thats Man Utd. My God I am fortunate to love this team!
Park is in my book one of the best midfielders in the world. He can dribble, tackle, defends, and never stops running. Add in his versatility of being able to play anywhere across the midfield, not to mention filling in as a full back from time to time, and we have one of the best players at OT atm. I think one of the reasons he has been playing well the past few games, especially since the CC game against Wolves is the fact that he is playing on a regular basis. With almost all our wingers out for the past month, he has been playing almost week in week out and that’s done him a world of good, in terms of confidence and fluency of his game.
Hope Fergie can keep giving him game time in some form or the other. Won’t be surprised to see him play in the middle against Shitty in a 4-3-3. Him, Carrick and Scholes behind Berba, Chicharito and Obertan should be interesting.

I think we were contemplating the possibilities for the game ahead – Hargo free kick, his pace, Hargo and Fletch nullifying their midfield, all the possibilities, then all of a sudden it’s all snatched away and the threadbare squad situation rears it’s head. Morning, lads. Late to the party after having to go in for emergency heart treatment y’day, but survived thanks to a certain Mr. Park.
Saw a lot of comments and Scott’s 10 observations from the match and have to say that I disagree with a lot of them.
1. Keeping in mind the vintage of the playing XI, I thought they did OK, particularly in the second half. I mean Obertan and Bebe have what, 5 EPL starts b/w them?
2. Didn’t see Chicharito dive y’day, no sir, not at all. And he didnt seem to be struggling, I thought he showed brilliant maturity to drop deep and try and link up with Obby and Park.
3. Bebe’s crossing was horrendous, but he has the raw material. One for the future.
4. O’Shea was Ok – not as bad as some games this season, but you need to know what to expect from him. What pisses me off about O’Shea is not his average performance, but when he is selected ahead of Rafael or Brown.
So, all in all, I’ll take the positives. 3 pts. with a Carling Cup XI and listen, when did you see VDS being tested? And if we had like 55% possession, we couldnt be that shite, could we? I am not denying that we need to strenghten the sqaud in the MF, but Christ, get real….you cant have a second XI with the likes of Ozil, Kaka, Messi and Ronaldo…
PS: What actually pisses me off is the fact that its always us with the mass injuries…last year it was the defence, this year its the MF…is it the fitness team, or the weather?

@MG, I can understand if fans leave when we are steamrolling opponents, then I can agree that they are only leaving to beat the early traffic in what is an easy win for United. But when fans leave in matches like yesterday or the game against West Brom (like happened in both those games where idiotic fans do that), I feel pretty pissed.
Just hope we can beat City. It will obviously be difficult because City are actually a pretty good team, but still the greatness of the derby day feeling should be enough I guess. If we can win our next two very difficult away games, that would put us in a great position going through to Christmas.
People are forgetting how easy Chelsea’s run has been so far. They have literally had three mainly difficult games and dropped points in all of them. Away at City – a loss, Away at Villa – a draw and Away at Pool – a loss. I cannot believe all the pundits don’t have the sight to see that they have literally had those difficult games and dropped pts in all of them. However, we do expect that from pundits a lot. They have played strange and weird football, get bashed to death by everyone yet they are the closest to chelsea, united are probably exactly like rocky at the moment, its just hanging on in there until united get a more settled team. It is just taking the hits until the team gels and settles again, the defence getting fit again has helped allot
The thing is that up til now, the only top 4 club that has lost points at places you’d expect them to drop points to, is Chelsea. That’s the worrying thing for me. They have to start dropping points to places like Bolton, Everton and Fulham, just like we did.

Whilst I partly agree about your point in keeping things in perspective BUT football imo is not about perspective when it comes to us fans. We celebrate a win as much as we hate a defeat, we do take one game at a time and we conduct ourselves accordingly, as fans we are NOT strategic thinkers, we are emotional, we win and we celebrate, we lose and we mourn. What is perspective to a football fan? We win the league and than what is the perspective? Hope you get my point mate
Perspective isn’t that hard to understand, as the late great Karen Carpenter once said, we’ve only just begun. If the press were writing us off, then that shows how much they really know about football, but on the other hand, we shouldn’t do the same with Chelsea.

City match won’t be easy i can assure you all, playing them at eastlands will be difficult as they turn it up a notch on there own patch, they’re unpredictable and we do not know what sort of city will turn up, the key is defending really well, we need vida and rio at there very best and if we get chances up top, it must be buried, i think the manager will play a 4-5-1 in this game, turning into 4-3-3 when we go forward..If we nick a win, i’d be delighted, a draw won’t be the end of the world but a win would be fantastic as it won’t come easy despite the impression some optimistic united fans might give you.

Oh, ye of great faith ! This was also my expectation but I am surprised that after ALL the chaos and frivolity-in-defending-leads that TheLads are just two points adrift. This was an exceptionally significant 24 hours – UTD snatch a victory from the jaws of a draw; the RentBoyz lose to the KopSukkers while TheArse look feeble against the BarCodes. Who’d have thunk it ?
I wrote a few messages a while back reminding our friends that the fast-out-of-the-blocks scenario by the RentBoyz was nothing new – that’s exactly what happened when BigPhill was in charge two years ago. Now, their team is two years older and the additions – Zhirkov and Ramires and Sturridge – are not exactly performing like world-beaters. Drogba is still mercurial and the same can be said for Anelka and Malouda – some might want to call them “flat track bullies” but I’m more impressed by their incredible inconsistency from week-to-week and even from game-to-game.
Of course, it’s too early to count our chickens BUT the resilience of TheLads has been impressive testimony to SAF’s calm, professional, experienced leadership. His team is being re-built while it is competing for a championship – note that TheArse have been trophy-less for five years while htey have been re-building and they look no closer to a trophy than at any time in the past five years.
SAF’s ability to blend youth and experience is unparalleled; and his ability to “home-grow” his talent – even if a lot of them are actually imported as teenagers – is also very impressive. AND his ability to squeeze fine performances out of journeymen squad players – like ThreeLungPark, John O’Shea, and Wesley Brown – is a much under-rated component of the team’s continued success. Injuries are a constant issue for any team in professional sport – the key to winning is finding ways to cope AND succeed. I’m always astonished at the people who don’t recognize this and want to send these guys to the glue factory – or Wigan or Sunderland. These three guys are absolutely crucial to UTD’s ability to weather injury tempests – not one of them is a “first choice” but all of them usually end up playing about 45/50 matches and their unheralded contributions go a long way towards keeping the squad balanced, competitive and in-the-hunt for trophies year-after-year.

@costas i agree i mentioned on a different thread everyone raves about chelsea but i don’t see it,they’ve had 2 tough away games and lost them both,i think fabregas is putting in time and will be gone next year,don’t see torres sticking around at liverpool either,utd have plenty of people missing and still grinding out results but the press is fucked don’t take that into account and rate us as a bad side.overall the gap has tightened theres no free games anymore but i still think if the other top clubs had the amount of players missing we have they’d be in much worse shape

We had injuries , players missing through viruses, diarrhea.. Rather than discussing over park and Oshea I haven’t seen a single post regarding the need to get some one for reducing the load on Fletcher . he might not have been top form but the reason for that is he is playing every minute of every match .. We seriously need to find someone to reduce this load on Fletherihno .. We might scape matches without Vida or Rio but a team sheet in Europe or the league with out Fletcher looks totally lost .. Fletcher is now the most vital cog in our line up and his lack of chasing down the ball when he lost it and it resulted in the goal was something which makes me more worried than OShea losing the ball or Bebe over hitting a cross ..

Everyone knows we need another CM, that’s been discussed time and time again. Another thing about todays game, I believe most teams have 3 players they couldn’t do without for a long period of time. We seen today for the rentboys, that was Drogba, Lampard and Essien, I wonder who our 3 players would be?
Fletcher scholesy and Rooney
This morning I said lets see how Chelsea fare without Drogba(Rooney), Anelka(Berba), Malouda(Nani), Kalou(Giggs), Benayoun(Park) and Mikel(Carrick).
It’s hard to say what’s our equivalent of Lampard though. I don’t think we have one. Scholes is playing a different role now. Fletch is our Essien though.
All I can say though, is that Nani has become our most creative player this season. I think he is the one we would miss the most.

I won’t lie. At times I miss a player like that too. I look at our midfielders like a father does with his boy. I am proud that they are good lads, but every now and then, I wish they wouldn’t allow anyone to bully them around. The problem is where you find a player like that and maintain your creative edge. That’s why Hargo was so special…
A few years back, I’d have taken Van Bommel, but maybe he’s just too old now. That’s most certainly the area we need to strengthen in the summer.

Ill be honest and i dont mind Torres over Rooney. Not at the moment for sure. The main accusation against Torres is he goes down too easily. Fine, all the top players do that at the moment. Diving, theatrics etc is a part of the game now.
Rooney isnt a better player than him thats for sure. The reason Rooney has won so much is because he plays in a ‘better team’. What can you say when someone like Rooney who has been developed and nurtured by the club plus won so many titles says the club ‘lacks ambition’. Isnt it Torres who should be asking these questions??. However he has always been loyal to Liverpool. The recent events have increased my respect for Torres even more.
People need to stop putting there hopes on hagreaves, the man hasn’t played for two years on the spin, he is bound to be getting different niggling injuries, i have huge doubts over him, if he doesn’t play this season, his confidence will be shot and he might have to retire.
We can’t be relying on him, we should dip in the market for a new anchor man.

Reading couple of hundreds of your posts posted by all of you after i’d gone to bed is really encouraging. But just stop for a minute. Chelsea played Villa, City and scousers away. We played Liverpool at home at not the best of moments for them. We lost points against West Brom at home!
Draw against Everton wouldn’t have been a disaster in a normal day but it was. Still early days but being 2 points behind matters a lot even though we have some tough fixtures during the next 30 days.
I am not being negative but just want us to remain focused and not exaggerate things.
I can imagine what we would have here if things start to get worse. Of course it can’t be said about our most sensible posters who always stay positive but let’s wait and see.
I am positive about Wednesday. Regardless of the team we will field. I predict Chicharito having a great game. His determination really wins you over.

@Corea, Yeah, my point was that Chelsea dropped points in all the game they were expected to. United threw away points but still they were difficult matches we would’ve taken draws from on other seasons. My point being that apart from those matches Chelsea’s run have been easy but no pundit seems to note that aspect. They just keep on saying Chelsea are the best or that they are automatically Champions without analyzing the situation objectively which irritates me.
Anyways, I think the God of Fixtures has again not smiled upon us. A match on Wed should ideally be followed by a match on Sunday but we have it on Saturday. Actually, the derby couldn’t have come at a better time for us I feel, since City are in all sorts of trouble with the relationship between the team and the manager. And they have not exactly set the world alight in the past few weeks. So, now would be the ideal time to play them. Won’t be easy but we still have a decent chance at getting a good result out of the game.
As I said if we get a decent amount of points – 4 or preferably all 6 (possible but very difficult) – then that would put us in an amazing position going into Christmas I feel.

Are Gibson and Ando available this week? Kiko is the first player back from the virus, but I am not sure about the rest. It’s a terrible situation, because even if they have recovered, we don’t know how much it has taken out of them. Although some might say that if Gibson and Ando lost some weight it wouldn’t be a bad thing.
Plus, we have players who were flirting with the damn virus over the weekend and we don’t know how they are.
We don’t have a game next week, so that fact that the VIlla game is 60 hours after the City game is ludicrous. No excuse for that. Sky keeps fucking us over. I see Giggsy and Nani playing only one game this week. Same for Scholesy and Rio. Park, Vida, Evra, VDS and Fletch are the ones that will probably play both. And maybe we will play 4-5-1 in both games rotating Berba and Chicha. Who knows? I hope we get some of the sick players back this week.
I agree about a DMF. I’ve said it too. What we really luck is a replacement for Fletch. Carrick is a different player(albeit quite vital for us) and Ando is an enigma. Our creativity comes from the wings and Berba, so we are good there. Plus, Fletch and Scholes aren’t too bad at spraying passes either.

I think even if Ando and Gibbo are fit enough to return for the derby they should be given more time to recover and should not play. We have Scholes, Carrick and Fletcher, maybe we can have one of them on the bench. SAF said Berbatov should recover so hopefully he will. Think Nani will return for Villa. Actually wont be surprised if he makes a surprise return against City. SAF always has a few surprises up his sleeve. Will be interesting to see how SAF rotates the squad.
