VIDEO: Premiership Top Scorer Bags Two Against Aston Villa Today

Amidst all the excitement of our winning goal today, scored by Federico Macheda, it might be easy to forget that Cristiano Ronaldo scored our first two goals today. Despite not playing that well and missing the first month or two of the season because of his operation and regaining fitness, Ronaldo is now the Premiership top scorer. Today was the 5th occasion of the season where he scored two goals in a game. Pretty remarkable stuff!

Yeah his seen has been soo up and down, I can’t believe he’s on top of the scorers list. Kinda says a lot too about the other attackers in the league this season though.

  2. Orez says:

Happy for him and the team. He proves again that he is by far our best goal threat. I just hope that people will get of his back. I know that he looses the ball a lot and doesn’t track back, but his job is to create and score and he does that over and over. Even in this “bad” season after missing 2 moths he is again a top scorer.

  3. costas says:

Well done for being top scorer again. It was a sad period to see Anelka top scorer.

  4. Mic says:

Yeah he deserves praise, we need to cut the bloke some slack, 50 games last season, then to Portugal, the surgery, then early come back, then Japan and he’s got aload of goals but his work rate isn’t great, though he’s always a threat and always has 2 men on him giving other players a chance to shine, I think we need perspective, he’s still a dick but he’s only human, he’s lazy but gets goals, he’s the Ruud Van on the wing!

We should still support him always and i’m glad we have mostly been doing. Viva Ronaldo!

  5. cherry says:

All hail Ronaldo for his brilliance, once again he has shown the whole world what stuff he is made of. He had a bad game though. Had we lost the game I can see the beating he should have received from most of us here especially that he lost the ball for their second goal.

  6. Red-Manc says:

I still dont like him, but he deserves alot of credit today although he didnt have the best game by his standards he came up with two goals and to be fair he when we went behind he seemed to be more motivated the most ive seen him all season actually.

how a player can be so quiet all game but still come up with two goals is beyond me, fair play to him.

  7. ROME_09 says:

With Berba out for a couple of games maybe we’ll get to see the Ronaldo of last season. Bit of a sidenote…Kiko is a total ringer for Ronaldo

    VIVA RONALDO
    VIVO KIKO

  8. Red Rupert says:

Apologies for this, but he also showed his other side when he got dispossessed and stood there with hands on hips instead of tackling back and winning the ball back like Rooney, Tevez, Park or Giggswould’ve done. Villa scored as a result. But yes – it says a lot for him when, in a season where he missed the first 10/12? games or so he is the top scorer whilst far from his best

  9. evras_left_foot says:

In addition to what Red Rupert said – if anyone got the Sunday Times today it showed an analysis on how Ronaldo’s position this season has been more of a natural winger since the introduction of Berbatov, and hence how his assists have gone up this season. Add to that the injury, the number of games and the fact he’s had to carry the tag of best player in the world (and every other title on the planet he’s won) with every team singling him out even more so to double/triple mark. Also alot of the times things just “go” for you and get that luck, and some times not so – like this season when he scored the corner against Chelsea which was wrongly disallowed – last season that would’ve been in. All these things count.

Fact is, he’s still not only our top scorer but also the Premier leagues.

Yes he has been a bit petulant and frustrated, but I think it’s been over magnified like everything else in his life.

Every genius has issues – I trust SAF to handle him best.

hopefully his confidence gets a lift from that and he’ll kick on between now and the end of the season.u could see how much he enjoyed his goals and his relationship with terraces looks like its gettin towards what it was last season, which is what we need

  11. AJ says:

    Giggs assisted all 3 goals.

  12. SULLY says:

AJ – Michael Carrick passed Ronaldo for his and United’s second.

  13. boolman says:

Michael Carrick has been shit for over a month now and a simple sideways pass does not count as an assist for me. What ever people say about him, Ronaldo is by far our effective player. one more thing, what does Fabio has to do to play in the first team? it sickens me to see O’shea start every game even though he has no pace, skill and coordination.

  14. Red-Manc says:

O’shea is a strange player to analyse because yes he’s no pace or any skill but at the same time he gets the job done. (and is capable of scoring important goals)

Brown/Rafeal/Neville have been injured for months hence the fact he’s played so much, when he only plays the odd game here and there people dont seem to mind him but the longer he plays the more noticable it is he just doesnt play football the United way.

he’s a squad player and he knows it he doesnt try to be a world beater so dont expect him to be one. If we didnt have players like him in our squad we wouldnt win trophies.

CR is a difference-maker. It’s hard to win without guys who can do something special. So, I’d imagine that the “usual rules” don’t apply to him – he’s not got to be an EverReadyBunny like Carlitos to add value to the team. He’s got to be given the opportunity to make the difference. Sure, he fucked up when he lost the ball and got lost, he also ran into lots of blind alleys when he was ganged-up by two or three defenders BUT he scored that vital second goal which made it possible for the last minute heroics from Macheda, whose control and shot were simply magical whereas Ronaldo’s second goal was a scuffer, through the ruck and into the corner. It made a difference to the way the game was decided.

He also came damned-near on a couple of other occasions with his head. On one I remember, Nani zinged in a perfect cross and CR just missed sending the ball into the corner with a glancing header.

About Nani – if the guy can’t use his left leg then he’s clearly never going to excel at the top level. He ALWAYS gets himself into a good position and then refuses to worry the defender with a left-option. And, it’s sooooo predictable that even I – on the couch – know what he’s going to do.

Macheda really looks like a “man child” – the same as the Wayne Rooney (“remember that name”) who scored a truly brilliant goal against TheArse when he was 16 or 17. Macheda’s goal was brilliantly taken – the control, the reversal and the shot were something that any striker would have been proud of. With him and Welbeck, it finally looks like the OT pipeline has been reestablished. These kids sure have exceptional talent – and they’re both strikers, #9s not “withdrawn” or “support” but real, true strikers. FINALLY ! Along with Fabio and Rafael the future looks devilshly red.
