Total class, just a Great player, will be a legend, as long as he stays with the Biggest and Best club in the WORLD. simples.

  4. mancunian soldier says:

seeing that west ham didnt bring parker up for the game against us out of fear of him receiving a tenth yellow card, are they going to be asked by the FA for a pelase explain for fielding a “weakened” team???

  5. denton davey says:

Beautiful team goal – up-and-down the whole field in about five or six passes, with wonderful criss-cross balls from Berbatov and Valencia.

What happened to Anderson ? I’m stuck beside the pool in Mexico (yeah, I know, poor sod !) so I can’t keep track of minute-by-minute action – only ROM highlights. I was really hoping that this game would catapult Anderson towards regaining a starting place but now it seems he’s crocked.

  6. vishnu says:

ultimate game of “keepy uppy” rooney should drop and do 10 for heading the ball and it touching the ground.

    LOL

what a ball from berba and the deflection from Valencia was world class.

  7. Costas says:

    Beauty.

  8. willierednut says:

Good result lets see if the berties can do us a favour against the rentboys on saturday. ps valencia and rooney were class tonight

  9. Anon says:

That’s eight goals to Owen this season. Only three of them from a start if i am not mistaken. He’s just two short of Tevez’s goal tally. Add Berba’s and Own Goal’s 9 each and Valencia’s seven, and this quartet is making the previous quartet (Ronaldo, Rooney, Tevez, Berba) look docile.

  10. Anon says:

*Tevez’s league goal tally from last season.

  11. aig alex is god says:

Rooneys finishing and positioning has improved so much. Good to see Owen bag a goal but i would love to see him start a big game and make an impact. Why he dosent start games despite some decent outings is beyond me. he scored a hat trick at Wolfsburg and then didnt start the next few games. With massive games coming up i cant see him start a game this season. A few substitute appearences should be it.

  12. Anon says:

sorry to be a blabbering fool, but I just saw the goal, and Owen not only ended that play with a goal, he also began it by winning the ball and keeping it in play. Another myth put to rest: Owen will not participate in the game, will only play off the shoulder of the last man.

  13. themufc1999 says:

    @ aig alex is god
Rooneys positioning is so good because he is been played in his natural position. He could have been gettin this many goals the few seasons if he was played there as often as he is now.

  14. RedDevilzAdvocate says:

Am chuffed for Michael Owen, to be honest.A lot of people come on here calling him a scouse scum and saying he’s shite but the fact is the man will score goals if he’s given the opportunity. I’m not Berbatov’s biggest fan but he had a good game tonight, played a big part in Rooney’s two goals and used the ball well. Positives include Vidic’s comeback and he’s performance was good as well, Scholesy played extremely well and of course I think Valencia should be MOTM, but Rooney’ll probably get it as he’s got two goals. Only downer is Ando’s injury, hope its not too serious and he’s back soon to help out the team. All in all a good night’s work, we’ve done all we can tonight. Here’s hoping the bitters can do us a favour at the weekend! Glory glory Man United!

  15. 20legend99 says:

What a ball by Valencia for the first goal. Top class. The boy has buckets of talent, I really can’t wait to see how he progresses.

    And, of course, Wazza.

  16. the scottish wonder says:

    Ronaldo 08/09=26 goals

Rooney 09/10=27 goals (and its still february)

  17. Costas says:

Owen has been hard done by. He was unlucky to bump into Rooney’s best season ever.He won’t start many games, but hopefully Fergie will put him on as a sub in matches wee we need goals. For example, I thought he(and not Berba) was more suited to play at Villa Park.

  18. aig alex is god says:

    @themufc1999

Very true.In the last few years he didnt play as the main striker every game.He used to get a bit too excited at times and miss chances he is taking now.He said that he worked on his positioning, finishing and heading in the summer and it is showing now.

  19. King Eric says:

themufc1999 – I know what you mean mate but I think Rooneys movement and positioning AND finishing has gone up a level or two this last few months. He is getting alot more in the 6 yard box now.

  20. Fze123 says:

Truly beautiful goals. Rooney will score 35 this season. I hope.

According to the BBC, Rio injured his back and may miss the CC final.

  21. Costas says:

Howard Webb made an ass out of himself again as he disallowed a clear Olympiacos goal. England’s finest? :D

  22. Costas says:

    @Fze123

Thanks for letting us know. Dear Lord..

  23. Costas says:

I hope Rio will be ready for the final. The Ch.League final that is…

  24. Fze123 says:

@ Costas, we need to sack all of the medical team. Seriously, this is becoming a joke. Thankfully Evans and Vidic play well together so they will be alright against Villa I reckon.

  25. Fred says:

Anon, your stats are rather arbitrary. Here’s the full story…

Tevez Premier League goals last season: 10
Owen Premier League goals this season: 3
Tevez Premier League goals this season: 13

Tevez total goals last season: 16
Owen total goals this season: 8
Tevez total goals this season: 19

    I’m just sayin’.

  26. Costas says:

    @Fze123

Vidic-Evans is a good partnership. When we had our 14 consecutive clean sheets, they played started most of the games together. I think they will be good for Sunday. The key to the season is keeping Vidic fit.

Rio’s situation will always come back to haunt him I am afaid. Just like it did with Gary Pallister. I fear for Ando. Not so much about his injury. More about the people treating him. :D

  27. mikekelly12 says:

Rio out of the final with back injury!! What the hell is wrong with him? He’s only played 1 game!!

  28. Fred says:

Can’t believe the news about Rio. What a kick in the guts. This can’t go on. We’ll have to break into that £100m “war chest” in the summer I think.

  29. Tony Starks says:

Valencia is one of the best players I’ve ever seen who only uses one foot, he improvises so well so that he doesn’t have to use his left! On one occasion he crossed with the outside of his right foot so that he wouldn’t have to use the left one…

  30. Costas says:

    @Fred:

With Vida’s sale it will be 120million. :D

I guess the Rio-Vida reunion will get postponed for Wolves or Milan. They last played together in Autumn and they will play together again in Spring ffs.

  31. JD says:

source on rio ? cant find any news on that. Hope its just a failed rumour

Ando I feel so bad for the guy, I love him I really do. How frustrating.. so frustrating. Hope its just a tiny knock. Him being on the wide left, that left me rife with anticipation to see what he’d do.

Valencia seems like he might be scared of his left, but does well enough. I fear it will be found out by a smart defender, always cutting off the line.

Scholes was brilliant again, shame he didnt net, would of gave him the MOTM award and rightly so. Otherwise, 9/10.

  32. Fred says:

@Anon – sorry lad, them Tevez stats for last season I posted are a bit muddled up. Please ignore.

  33. Fze123 says:

    @ Costas, haha.

What’s so infuriating is that he has been literally given 2-3 months to get his back sorted. I guess we won’t see Vidic and Rio playing together until next season if this continues, that is only if Vidic remains with us. I really hope Vidic is paired with Evans against Villa, not Brown. RB Brown is superb, but CB Brown is terrible. Brown has actually played in all seven defeats so far this season, 7th being the first leg of the CC semi against the bitters.

  34. sprite says:

    Fred, come on..
    Tevez goal tally last season
    EPL 5 goals
    FA cup 2 goals
    League cup 6 goals
    CL 2 goals
    = 15 goals

  35. Fze123 says:

@ JD on the BBC sport website, on the yellow ticker. I hope it’s just a niggle and not serious.

  36. Fred says:

@Costas – ah, good point. At least £120m in the kitty to buy two central defenders, shouldn’t be too difficult. I predict we’ll sign Anthony Gardner and David Weir.

  37. Tony Starks says:

but we got Chris Smalling… the guy who’s not even in the Fulham team currently!

  38. Fred says:

Fze123 said “I guess we won’t see Vidic and Rio playing together until next season if this continues, that is only if Vidic remains with us.”

Next time we see Vidic and Rio playing together they’ll be wearing the white of Real Madrid. YHIHF.

  39. Fred says:

@Starks – Smalling (and Evans of course) will provide good backup next season to our main defensive partnership of Weir & Gardner.

  40. Costas says:

So much positivity among us. I take the blame for starting it!

  41. Costas says:

    @Fze123

Yeah, Ando has also started in 7 defeats this season. I was surpised to discover that. Sir Alex said that he will have a scan by the way. Can’t say much right now. It doesn’t look too good.

  42. redscot says:

I really dont give a tuppeny toss, i LOST a Tenner on my bet lol, But a fucking great nite. Now lad’s on and upwards to Wembley. Get behind the boys. Shout like crazy right.Believe it’s still ON
Commmmmonnnnnnn You REDS. OVER and sparko.

  43. Emily Jane 3 weeks till she hits old trafford says:

Am I allowed tale advantage of all the good mood and say when it comes to the weekend, this is the only time, come in city. Tevez treated united fans like mugs and turned some against the manager I wonder if he could turn part time hero against the rent boys..
anyway fuck it I won my tenner bet. On the 3-0 why do i never put my monet where my mouth is and put the brat played in the world as my first goal scorer.

  44. Fred says:

Great to see Hargreaves back tonight. Sure, he was only sitting in the stands but it’s a small step in the right direction! At this rate he’ll be back to lead our charge to title number 29 in 2019/2010. He’ll probably take over the captaincy from a retiring Ryan Giggs, age 45.

  45. Park likes dags says:

@ Fred, Mate?? Giggs will have that captaincy till he reties @ 59!

  46. Bebeto says:

That was such a dreadful first half. I was beginning to wish I hadn’t bothered making the effort to be there. If only I’d been as “generous” as Scott in giving a ticket away.

Thank christ for the second half.

    P.s. fuck you, winter.

  47. hurr says:

Wow, Rooney is really on fire recently with those headers. I thought that was one aspect of the game he’s not really that good at.

  48. Sunny says:

Relieved to see that Everton was just a bump in the road, we are back in th saddle. I am starting to believe that Fergie might as well pull the starting lineup from a hat since we have excellent cover for all positions. Now all we need is a slipup from the rentboys, they are not THAT good. And yes, there is a god, Cheryl is finally leaving Ca$hey. Chelski, what an all-star bunch of tossers – Didier “Disgrace” Drogba, Buttplug Ballack, Ca$hley, Obi wan Kenobi and Tiny Tears all in the same team? We just can not loose our fourth in a row to those guys.

  49. California Devil says:

    Manchester United > Everyone

  50. rooney the new king says:

themufc1999 – rooney is not exactly playing his natural position he is just moved higher up the field because united dont have a central striker. I think rooney and fergie have worked on a phew things, like score more goals and score some van nistlerooy type goals, rooney has just aded more weapons to his game but he is not in his naturel positon of second striker, because the likes of owen and berbatov dont have the pace or the goalscoring threat of rooney to play the central striker that is why rooney is playing that position because he is the deadliest and by far the most complete player.

  51. Marq says:

We lose and everyone critisizes Berbatov, why do I not see anyone praise Berbatov for this game? Yes, Valencia put in 2 great crosses for Rooney, but who was it that put Valencia into those position for the crosses?

  52. hurr says:

    @Marq

Go read the live blog comments. Some haters even criticize him (Berba).

  53. ajopaul says:

Very happy to see owen on the score card.. and Berba and valencia.. sheer class mates..

  54. Dre says:

    Berbatov is good.

I only hope he can prove the doubters wrong.

  55. reddallas says:

Great comeback game! Rooney such class! Excellent crosses from Valencia, our passing game really clicked. Owens goal was a super finish I felt a little bit of that thrilling feeling we got when he finished off City. Bring on Wembley and lets hope the Rentboys drop some points! MUFC! MUFC! MUFC!

  56. reddallas says:

Great comeback game! Rooney such with class! Excellent crosses from Valencia, our passing game really clicked. Owens goal was a super finish I felt a little bit of that thrilling feeling we got when he finished off City. Bring on Wembley and lets hope the Rentboys drop some points! MUFC! MUFC! MUFC!

  57. red_boy says:

    Owen is EXTREMELY good

I only hope he can prove the doubters wrong.

  58. giggs11gerrard0 says:

Great three points tonight after Saturdays performance! Having Vida back was fantastic and not one ball was allowed to bounce, he dominated everything and Brown just covered the pieces. I hope it is Brown and Vida at the back on Sunday.

Scholes was his usual majestic self just oozing class with his movement and range of passing.

Paddy Evra, Rooney, Valencia, and Berba were in great form last night, Rooney will take the plaudits but Berba was class last night. He created the first two goals with Valencia profiting from his passing.

Gibson? Im not gonna sound off but he is so lazy its untrue, he expects the ball to find him so he can shoot from where ever he likes.

  59. stretfordender says:

Was at OT last night, first goal was one of the best team goals we have scored this season and rolled back the years to beckham whipping in first time crosses! Great to see Owen score. I know I always back Dimi, but the guy was class last night, involved heavily in both the first two goals and his general awareness of Rooney was brilliant. Valencia is also really coming along, Nani’s improvement put pressure on Tony to perform but he was unbelievable last night. These are the games we need to win. Now for the cup final, think we should keep rewarding Berba for his good form and include him in the starting line up. Anyone fancying Jose to put the Chavski train off the tracks tonight? Also heard from a strong couple of sources at OT that we are still monitoring Defour. He was class before his injury and I know Fergie wrote THAT letter to him, I would welcome him in, Gibson has yet to grab his chance firmly and Defour would offer us goals. Finally, Nemanja was a man mountain last night, Cole has been in great form since his return and Vidic consistantly made him look average.. one of our supposed world cup strikers! Gutted to hear about Rio, really starting to worry for the guy.

  60. rubito says:

    Good three points last night.
Just seen the goals. One thing I like is there was something very good about each goal and from each build up. Great stuff.

    COME ON YOU MIGHTY REDS

    LUHG

  61. Union Jack says:

I’m guessing rio isn’t too bad but fergie is being canny and making him unavailable for the England friendly v Egypt next week.
    United > England.

  62. kel says:

Owen goal is good. Did anyone notice how he keep himself onside? With so many things to do like where to run, concentrate on goal, first touch and everything, he knows how to keep himself onside.

Btw, did i saw empty seats in OT? Wow.
    http://www.football.co.uk/manchester_united/man_united_fans_give_glazers_cold_shoulder_with_old_trafford_no-show_rss464631.shtml

  63. catotraa says:

It’s time for someone to open their eyes and see what was behind the excellent crosses of Valencia yesterday!
And for those of you who didn’t know, it was Barbatov! He puts in such great balls, giving them the perfect curl to just swoosh of Valencias feet and in to Rooney. At the same note, Berba and Antonio seem to play realy well together and find eachother. Valencia goal vs. Wolves, almost goal vs. Portsmouth anyone? Brilliant!

  64. Emily Jane 3 weeks till she hits old trafford says:

if rooney got a 10 rating yesterday then berbatov got a nine
    `
    Berbatov was on fire yesterday
i always taught his control on his first touch was amazing but he can contol a high ball with ease with his first touch and set the ball up for rooney perfectly with the same said touch.
defender to scholes to berbatov out to park mostly valencia cross to rooney
    it happened so often .
if anyone before i read back in the comments anyone said berbatov wasnt an 8+ rating then i have to say, not that it means jack, my opinion is down. As I say my opinion mwans the world to me , it doesnt effect anyone else
    but Berbatov is magic http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9UCXpT9SWt0

  65. lawman10 says:

change of thought…………..what the hell is going on with ferdinand?
    out again for gods sake!!!!!
I think fergie needs to find a replacement for him, its a real shame ferdinand has been a great defender looks like hes going the same way as pally did, same problem

  66. Emily Jane 3 weeks till she hits old trafford says:

    Kek
I dont know if you have mutv but they have been pushing tickets to the west ham game for near 2 weeks now because so many had been given back due to the fact that the sunday game had been changed to a tuesday afternoon, I dont believe it had much to do with a protest and or what harris was saying. . . it was just to do with the late time change

  67. styy says:

great job berbatov, creating first 2 goals with wonderful passes.

  68. lucasthebest says:

    Good win!! Can’t complaint!

Wooww.. Rooney.. scored twice heading the balls to the net, credit to Valencia .. both are delicious crosses from right end..

Barba proved me wrong here, I haven’t seen whole but on HL, his touch and distributed pass are wonderful.. Michael Owen.. goal is a class too.. text book movement and killer finish..

The question is if , as if, we are in losing position and to change the game.. will be the one, Michael Owen, or Barba, for us to turn the game around.. ??

Still though, I wanted to see more of Rooney and Diouf Actions.. Diouf can be a bully physical machine up front.. what’d u lot think? Can he be our Plan B in Final and KO games in UEFA??

Rio is not gonna be in Final and matter of fact , he will be patchy on/off for rest on the season for sure.. as well as his ageing make matter worse for back pain and worry for next year .. Our defensive won the titles in past.. I’m sure Sir Alex will look it at that in summer!!

  69. bigphil2003 says:

A funny stat that Tyler pulled out on Sky’s extended highlights last night – Rooney’s now scored 8 headers in his last 9 games – previously he had scored 4 in about 250 games!

Gotta say also, I’ve been plenty guilty of giving Berbatov a load of shit recently, but in the last two games he’s looked brilliant. I still think that for big games we’re better playing 4-5-1 without him, but when he’s called on he’s performing. Park too did a good job when he came on and was unlucky not to get a goal – he’s another one that gets way too much shit from our fans. He’s not a flashy player but he adds a great deal of stability to the team and he’s played important parts in some pretty big wins for us.

  70. King Eric says:

I see the ABU’s are out in force this morning the fucking bitter cunts. Rory dipper Smith has shown a picture of the Stretford End from last night , probably at halftime and said that the crowds are stopping going to OT. YEah right, 73,000 plus at a rearranged Tuesday night game. Then some cunt from the telegraph reckons we are a one man team as our midfield has no guile or bite. Again yeah right. Have they not been watching Scholes or Fletch. Must be horrible being that bitter. They cannot give credit where its due.

  71. King Eric says:

bigphil2003 – Spot on mate. I am a fan of Berba but you are bang on about Park. Since his injury I think he has looked good the last few times he has been called upon. Great squad player and vastly under rated.

  72. brett1985 says:

Great first goal and hopefully a sign of things to come from Valencia and Berbatov. It is just such a shame that they couldn’t drag us to a win against Everton having not started against Milan. I do feel that if we are to win the league, much as it will be a tough ask, such performances will be needed. Not beating west ham would have been dreadful so I’m just glad for a comfortable 3 points.

  73. bigphil2003 says:

Also feel the need to mention Anderson and Gibson.
First Ando, I feel really bad for him getting injured so early on in his first game after a month out – the lad is a real rough diamond I reckon – who knows, he could very well turn out to be a flop, but he has the ability to hold off challenges better than a lot of people in our squad. Experience is a great teacher, and I think we’d be wise to give him time to come good.
Gibson also comes in for a lot of stick from our fans who claim all he can do is shoot. First of all, we have to remember that he’s also a young player with very little experience, and to have a shot like he does isn’t a bad starting point. Secondly I thought he played very well last night with Scholes – showed some good passes and some great work to create space for himself. I’m not claiming that he’s ready to be a first XI regular, but that is the standards that some people seem to judge him by – baffling!

Two words for everyone writing off these two guys: Darren Fletcher.
Fair enough, we’re not always gonna get a Fletch but there were plenty of people calling for Fletch to be sold even when he was older than either of these two – and I bet they feel pretty foolish now. Obviously the main difference between Fletch and Anderson is the price tag – for that price we probably expected the finished article, but I don’t think the people that count (i.e. Fergie) necessarily did.

  74. welbz19 says:

    @king Eric
also dont forget Carrick really feel he has been outstanding recently, especially when played as part of a 3 man midfield!

  75. King Eric says:

welbz19 – Yeah I did forget to mention Carrick who for the last few weeks up till the Everton game has been in top form.

  76. reddevil forever says:

valencia makes rooney goals look so easy.many of us are saying rooney replaced ronaldo in terms of goals but valencia is doing well too the majority of rooney goals comes from valencia.rooney ballon d’or this season.

  77. mohamed abdi ahmed says:

no leave nor retire from man utd unless they buy atleast 4 tough strikers from spamish laliga , 5 tougher midfielders , 3 best world best defenders and 2 world best goalkeepers….thanks…by abig man utd supporter…in kenya.

  78. Unitedrock says:

where the FUCK are the other 2 goals?????? why say ALL the goals when what you have is JUST ONE GOAL to show???????

  79. Unitedrock says:

ooops. saw them in the next page. haha.

  80. denton davey says:

Marq: “We lose and everyone critisizes Berbatov, why do I not see anyone praise Berbatov for this game?”

I’ve been critical of Berbatov’s role – I’ve never criticized his skills. I think that what you’d find by reading comments from other so-called “BerbyHaters” is that they generally write (in frustration) with the way his inclusion changes the team’s shape and tactics.

It’s really not fair to call this a criticism of Berbatov himself but, rather, a critical commentary on the way he has been (and has not been) integrated into the team’s overall attacking play. It seems to me that this is a distinction-with-a-difference since very few of the “BerbyHaters” are critical of the man’s ability. Anyone with eyes to see can understand that he has superb ball skills and close control, what isn’t evident to me (and, I believe, to others) is that his control and his “languid style” actually benefit the team’s attack.

You could argue that last night’s first two goals were counter-evidence but I would respond to you that that’s what he’s supposed to be doing ALL THE TIME. Or, at least, more often. And, don’t forget that he didn’t score either goal or provide the first assist – both times he laid the ball off to Valencia who provided the first assist with terrific crosses.

I really don’t think that this argument would subside even if UTD were to win the CL and the EPL. Dimitar Berbatov’s style of play is just not everyone’s cup of tea – and you can’t please all the people all the time.

  81. Fred says:

“We lose and everyone criticizes Berbatov, why do I not see anyone praise Berbatov for this game?”

Playing well against one of the bottom teams is the fucking LEAST Berbatov should be doing FFS, he doesn’t deserve special praise for it. Are we supposed to get all giddy because he showed up for a home game against fucking West Ham? I’ll sing the man’s praises when he dominates a big game against one of our true rivals.

  82. Marq says:

Ronaldo is worth 80M and even he doesn’t dominate games. You people need to wake up and stop playing your playstations

  83. Fred says:

Ronaldo doesn’t dominate games? Ronaldo dominates entire leagues, mate.

  84. Marq says:

Which Fifa have you been playing?

  85. Fred says:

What fucking game have you been playing where Berbatov is a top striker? Fucking moron. Wants everyone to start sucking some Berbacock coz the mofo set up a fucking goal against some relegation-threatened shite. I bet you watch his fucking little pirouette against West Ham last year over and over again on YouTube every day.

Do us all a favour Marq, when Berbatov is fucked off out of Old Trafford this summer or next, please follow him to whatever shit club he ends up at. We don’t need fucking fanboys who worship particular players.

“Boo hoo, why do I not see anyone praise Berbatov for this game? It’s not fair! Why does nobody praise my Dimi? Waaaaaaa, waaaaaaaaa…”

Talking about fucking video games FFS. Deary me.

  86. Fred says:

Actually mate, that rant was way OTT. My apologies.

We’re all United fans here. Don’t know why I’m always playing devil’s advocate about Berbatov. Bit daft really.

I hope Berbatov does the business on Sunday and I promise I’ll give him credit if he does. Enjoy the Cup Final. :-)
