A goals a goal … though Lennon’s play today might not be a good sign for Patrice and Nani. Hope they can keep him in check on Saturday and Rooney continues to score, even on mistakes like that … which Gomes may oblige?
rooney will win england the world cup
lol what a stupid goalkeeper. i think if croatia had modric playing england wouldn’t have won this easily.
ghtt.you will be disappointed with irelands result.also heard valencia scored for ecuador and they have won 3 1 and gone 4th in the standings
quick upload scott, bad goalkeepin but more importantly roo was there to tap it home bring on spurs
I thought their goal keeper did quite well actually…..
How old is he?
Heskey was shite. AGAIN. Owen or Defoe score them chances. Rooney got played too deep just so that Heskey could play. Lennon is gonna take some stopping.
who gives a fuck, fuck england (manc red)
rooney scores and creates goals for fun these days
lets hope lennon has an off day on saturday, or evra fancies a little bit of payback for last year
It might have been a tap in from a keeper mistake but he was there *in case* the keeper made a mistake and it’s great to see Rooney maintain his goals/games ratio for club and country.
I came to realise another reason why I cannot get excited or interested by Ingerlund. I just cannot for the life of me cheer for the likes of Stevie Me, Fat Frank, Tiny Tears and Barry. It sounds awful this but everytime I watch them I have a overwhelming feeling inside I actually want them to get beat. Aside from Wayne and the other United representatives I can’t stand the way the media will drool over them and hype them to fuck again. I really need to try and change my attitude before the World Cup.
Did Valencia score? Did you see Stevie Me’s second goal celebration? I had to leave the room.
He needs to score more of such simple goals in red. He’s gonna storm to both of Sir Bobby’s records.
off topic. Derren Brown has just predicted the lottery numbers and got them all right, in the same order as well.
“Did Valencia score?” Yes he did, I just checked. A “rifle” of a shot by all accounts and set up the third when he beat his man and put in a low cross.
I am just pleased there has been no injuries.
I wouldn’t mind seeing Ecuador beating Tevez and Heinze to the 4th place in the South America group.
Nani and Pat will have a job to do on Saturday chasing Lennon, he seems to be on fire these days. But I’m sure we’ll handle it.
http://goal.com/en/news/9/england/2009/09/09/1490909/michael-owen-i-love-life-at-manchester-united
England are just building themselves up for a huge summer of dissapointment. Had Rio been the England captain i’d probably feel different but even the though of Tiny Tears captaining England to World Cup Victory makes me feel sick. Sure it’s be great for Beckham but Rio and Rooney dont need England
Man Utd > England
Does anyone have a link to Valencia’s goal for Ecuador?
ahh im english so no matter much i loathe tiny tears and stevie me i still support the national team, i guess you just learn to put your differences aside when it comes to your country. others feel indifferent so thats fair enough. england will only have a chance with the world cup if rooney is in the team. nuff said
link to valencia goal great pace and finish http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iv-a_29m7mk
Had to have been the easiest goal yet….;P
25 goals in 7 years as an international, and he’s getting better at scoring for England, Christ, how many goals could Rooney get? I agree with most United fans that England come a distant second to United, but I have always been proud of the fact my countries all time record scorer is a United legend, so it would be sweet if Charlton’s record, when finally broken, is beaten by Rooney, not Lineker or Owen.
If Rooney keeps his form and fitness through to the World Cup England definitely have a chance, especially with Argentina, Portugal, and France all struggling to even qualify. And if England do win it, and he stars in the tournament then he should have a great chance of FIFA World Player Of The Year, how awesome would that be 12 months after selling Ronaldo!
I wrote a note on facebook which basically says the same sort of things about how most united fans dont support England and touched on why.
I’m no scott the red but its here if you want a read http://www.facebook.com/home.php?ref=home#/note.php?note_id=253407550091&ref=mf
And Valencia scored a beauty for Ecuador… Now lets see if they do the same against spurs… After our last game they’ll be looking for revenge, and they are far from the laughing stock they were last year.
I LOVE ROONEY.
Another proof for the fact that Gareth Barry is extremely overrated. Dont think he did anything yesterday. Lennon was fire down the right, need to keep him in check. Stevie-G celebrated as if he landed on the moon !! Fuckin moron !!!
Well i watched the game and it was the first time since we beat holland in 1996 that i have actually felt proud of our national team. I hate to say it but prettyboy lampard, twatty terry and even fuckin s gee had pretty decent games and it was good to see our boys show some passion even if it was brought about by Bilic’s comments. (was he stupid or what?)
)
But the boy god Rooney was on a different planet to the rest. I told all my mates at the time that they were watching a living legend in action on the top of his game. All i could do was watch each pass he made with awe and think this is how my dad felt when he was watching Georgie Best. The way Rooney would play the winger in over the top and just tempt the defender to intercept it and pull him out of position. beautiful. And some of the balls he was playing in even i didnt forsee…. and that never happens. Honestly.
I didnt think anyone could do it but Wazza has made me fall for my country again.
Just need Hargreaves back to get that cunt Barry out.
With Ingerlund qualifying it means the papers will be full of it for a few days but can we now just get back to the league. Utd need to step and beat Spurs to make the most of that result against the Arse. Thank god for the league.
P.S Norn Ireland, a game too far.
I’ve been looking all over the place for the video of Valencia’s goal for Ecuador. Anyone have the link???
There’s a reason why world class England winger Lennon is at spurs all these years and there is a reason paddy evra has started in 2 champions league finals in 2 years. There’s a reason why no big team has ever gone to buy Lennon and a reason why paddy evra has 3 and a half seasons of premierleague football under his belt and 3 gold medels to hang around his neck, so Lennon had 2 good games against evra last season what did spurs win last year by the way
now Rooney is the play maker of all play makers for England and he is the main reason out of a few reason why England could win the world cup I think there keeper and there defence are reasons why they won’t, but watchin the England set up it made me think what’s the fucking story with carrick , is he injuried because it must be a bad un if he can’t play but played the champions league final with a brokin toe”
”
now my off topic new THANK YOU anyone who support what Emily does her YouTube videos are now partnered with YouTube and soon we will be sellin sponcership for the videos and Emily will get paid into her savings account , THANK YOU SCOTT for all you’ve done the manuchio chant is where it all started

Always nice to see a United player score but i’m not really fussed about England tbh.
get in there..come on england..
rio could return against spurs it says on manutd.com
Morning.
gotta hate – I too am not sure what the crack is with Carrick. Was he dropped from the team altogether last night, he wasn’t a sub. Don’t know why he insists on playing Barry, the most over rated midfielder in the league.
Slow news day again. Come on Scott lad post summat to entice the dippers on here. I could do with a laugh!!
Wow, wud love to see England go through and if Rooney shines, its all the more exciting to watch.. yes without united reps in England, its not so much fun to watch them play..
Slow news day???????? Are ya Havin a laugh did ya not read my Emily news, it’s bigger than England winning the world cup
good morning everyone
King Eric.Hi mate. Personally i feel Barry is better than Carrick at the
moment.Carrick is struggling for form at the moment.Barry is a decent player.I think if Hargo is fully fit and in form he will be the first choice ahead of Carrick and Barry.
BTW wazza seems to get along very well with all the England players.had a lot of fun late in the game yesterday.
ghtt.congragulations to you and emily.
all the best to Emily and you.she is a very sweet little girl and i hope she continues to support the club and shares the same passion that you do for the club.hope the chants will come for many more years
gotta hate – Bloody hell mate I didn’t get a chance to read the full post. That is great news for you and Emily. Well done.
What has Carrick actually done for England that warrants him getting ahead of those who were playing?
Scott,all right mate?
Sir Alex has given his pre match press conference, you can pick up and post something.please
Good to read that rio is fit.we will need him against Spurs.very difficult game.hope we do well.Lennon and defoe are in good form.we will have to be at our best.
man everyone has gotta see the ecuadorvs bolivia highlights
valencia’s pace =O…
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F2uC42X68JE
ooh ahh valencia!
its flash floods in Turkey. hope our midweek CL match doesn’t get washed out. don’t need piling up of fixtures anymore
Glad to see Wazza get on the scoresheet, even it it was a gimme – it just keeps his streak going and confidence up. At this rate, he’ll know that the chances will come and he’ll definitely stick one in the back of the net, given a few good looks.
Also, for all the club vs country people, one of my friends mentioned to me that Rooney does not sing the national anthem in the lineup. If I recall correctly, didn’t the Nevilles and Scholes also not sing? A little United conspiracy?
I really am glad there is such a good team spirit in the England squad – yet I do feel uncomfortable seeing Rooney warmly hug the likes of Lampard, Gerrard, Cashley and Terry.
Sitting in a room of Ingerland chauvinists, you’d have imagined that the opponents were Brazil ’70, not Croatia ’09. The opposition were appallingly bad which made Aaron Lennon’s performance seem magical to the deluded – still, he did hit a target with his cross for the second goal !Contrary to NorwichRed, I thought that Rooney had a very, very quiet game and that his goal was a true gift.
That said, what Capello has done is proven that a keen eye for the possible is the pre-eminent requirement for top-flight management – something that Diego Armando Maradona clearly doesn’t possess. Knowing that he has one world-class “withdrawn” forward – Rooney – and a number of attacking midfielders, he has turned coventional logic upside-down and used Emile Heskey as a “forward playmaker” (or bulldozer) in the sense that it is Heskey’s power on the ball that occupies two of the opposition’s defenders and provides the time for the two attacking midfielders (I count Rooney and Gerrard in this group) and space for the winger.
It’s unconventional but it worked against a plodding, slow, and nervous set of Croatian defenders. It’s also the way to get the most out of what he has available to him. The lop-sided formation is actually something like a 4-1-1-3-1 with one winger in the “3″. Gareth Barry is left-footed which accounts for his choice ahead of Carrick – but both are just keeping the position warm in the case that Owen Hargreaves can be match-fit and play the holding role. Similarly, Aaron Lennon might have had a terrific game – and some of that has to be accounted for by how rarely he was rarely marked ! – but he is merely keeping the right-sided winger’s position warm until the kid from TheArse, Theo Walcott, comes back to full match-fitness.
From a UTD perspective, only one injury from Ingerland-duty as Wesley Brown seems to have had something tweaked – again. That is relatively good news. But anyone who thinks that playing the defensive do-nut that is Glen Johnson ahead of Wesley against serious attackers is seriously delusional. But what would one expect from a gang of dead-heads who were only too happy to sing “Rule Brittania” with gusto after the brave lads beat a team of ElevenDeadMenWalking ?
who cares about England? who gives a fuck? its only United i love- Good for Rooney he scored
HESKEY FOR ENGLAND!! HESKEY FOR ENGLAND HAHAHA
denton – great post. Just out of interest are you english, Canadian or American?
Just watched the link of Valencia’s goal and assist from last night, provided by Rahul 7. Ludicrous pace and a belter of a shot. More of the same for United please Luis.
Lads,
With regards to England i seem to be missing something. My mats have been over the moon today and singing the teams praises. Yes we got a 5-1 victory but im still not overly convinced!
What i am not really overjoyed about
1 Passing & Approach play
Englands Style of Play for me is poor! They do play simular to Liverpool if you ask me, few passes and look for the direct pass!. When you watch United, Chelsea & Arsenal play there is more off the ball running. If a player has the ball looking to pass there is 2 or 3 people looking to make themselves available. For some reason in the england team this doesnt happen enough. We played Slovacia (however Spelt) their passing and quick movement was better to be honest! … Fergie always raves about speeding things up, Moving the ball quicker… Why at international level do we not play a simular style to our top premiership clubs is beyond me!
2 – Stevie G playing Left Midfield…. I am sorry but for me this wont work against the big teams! Last night i watched as Gerrard was exchanging short passes on the right wing with lennon and im thinking, What the fuck are you doing over there son! I look for lampard and he is just behind rooney in the centre.. Barry is just behind Gerrard!…… Left midfield totaly exposed!.. Maybe Capello thinks Ashly cole can defend better than we all know!!!……… For me Top teams will rip us appart if we contiue like this!.. It worked last night but i dont think its the answer!
3 Emile Hesky! – I think Emile Hesky is only in the team due to the formation Capello is adopting. This pas short to the defenders then a direct pass to hesky. It doesnt look Effective to me.. Every time one is played i never have the feeling that its dangerous! I never get the feeling that we are going to score from it!.> Maybe against the weaker teams the odd mistake will happen, But would you expect Mistakes from Quality Centre Halfs? if any team played that kind of game against Rio & Terry, Rio & Vidic, Terry Carvalio… They would be happy all day! With regards to hesky i think Carlton Cole is a better alternative or That Aston Villa Chap. Agbundlwhore or something!
4 – Lampard & Gerrard! Together!… i think these 2 cant play in the same team! I respect both as profesional players and quality players. Some united fans dont like Gerrard but if he signed for us he would be immence!…. That kind of quality can not be ignored!…. For me the counter each other out, They make the same runs, they both need the ball in the same position on the pitch to play their natural game and i think they struggle with it!…… For me its one or the other, with a holding midfielder!
5 – Johnson – Some people are raving about him! I fail to see what he is about, Yes he is ok going forwrad, Good craft for the assist but by christ he didnt look too great defending… I am a massive Gary Nevile fan! I think Nev has been out for so long some really have forgotten how good he actualy is!… I can remember Nev was injured and the Mighty Jamie Carragher played right back!… He played ok, but he wasnt as good as Nev!… Brown has filled in well, but same again he aint Gary Nev!…….. I know some are going to jump and say he is finished, For me i think if we can get him fit he will be good for us this year!… If he gets fit, pay attention to how often he gets caught out defensivly!… Pay attention to how good his crosses are.. Pay attention at how good his passing is!
I know its all about the players abilty, but we need to up the pace a bit, Id love to see the following changes,
Last nights game i would have had the following formation ( i have picked Johnson as i dont think Brown is totaly fit!!)
Green
Johnson – Terry – Upson – Cole
Lennon – Barry – Lampard – Milner
Rooney
Agbonglawhore! HAHAHa
I like Milner, He is tidy on the ball and always on the move. He work rate is awsome & his passing tidy! Puts in a mean cross as well! I would have our passing quicker as well, More on the ground with Milner and Lennon looking for the ball at every oppertunity… I would also have the attacking line futher up the pitch helping to push them back a little… Force rooney to stay in the middle and not come back behind the half way line!!
WEll this is my arm chair rant!… I have certainly raised a few eyebrows with my rant today in work but thats what lifes about!!! hahaah
King Eric @ 18:53 In answer to your question, I was born in Denton (actually Didsbury was where the maternity clinic was located) in 1946. The next year, I was taken to Canada and grew up in Vancouver where I lived until 1970. From that time through 1975 I lived in Cambridge, where I did a doctorate. Then, in 1975, I moved to Toronto and have lived here since then.
More interesting than the personal history, is the fact that my “Manchester consciousness” was awakened in 1958 and ever since I have followed TheLads although it was only in the 1970s – when I was living in England and able to watch MOTD and attend some matches in London – that I was confirmed in my tribalism. Then, when I returned to Canada there was an almost-complete news blackout until the advent of satellite television. From that time, in the later middle 1990s, it has been possible to see live broadcasts of almost all of UTD’s matches – for free or for a small additional charge to my digital package.
Compared to my cousin in M/C, I have a luxury package – and much, much cheaper too. Games which aren’t televised on FoxSportsWorld, Setanta, GolTV, or other channels are usually available at the local watering hole (“Scallywags” on St Clair Avenue) and are usually free for viewing.
Given my age – and the free time I have now that I am semi-retired and have no child-care duties – I watch as many UTD games as I can. I don’t bother watching repeats because once the game is over, it’s over.
Scott’s blog is something of a god-send – no name calling and some seriously interesting discussion, too. It’s not quite as good as being there but I am hoping that in 2011, I can make a pilgrimage to Old Trafford and maybe even get a seat in the Stretford End. If only Georgie Best was playing !
denton – thank you very much for your “potted” life history. Wow I didn’t envisage you would be 62/63 although I could tell from your posts you certainly weren’t a ” post 99″ fan! I was just interested that’s all, as without sounding creepy I enjoy reading your posts. You have mentioned Toronto a few times hence the reason I asked.
denton – Interesting to read that you “don’t bother watching repeats”. I am quite the opposite, I am glued to all the classics on MUTV. When I get home from the games I will then watch a re-run on Football first on Sky Sports One and THEN even watch the highlights on MOTD! For some reason I like to hear how different commentators report on the game even though most of the time they just anger me.
@ Denton – You have some interesting views and a cracking history but we’re gonna have to disagree about Rooney. To me he was a god walking amongst men, and lummoxes like heskey. Just look at the way he delayed that cross for the 4th goal until the last possible millisecond before playing it over the top of everyone into gerards path. (who else saw that ball?) And the balls he was playing into lennon in the first 20 mins that piled the pressure on their defence and dictated the pace of the game. Voonderbar!
I cant fuckin wait until he’s unleashed against spurs. (rubs hands gleefully.)
and Trevor… Spot on mate!
@denton davey : good to hear that from you. your posts are always top notch.
you and Giles are like similar ages. i guess even one more on RoM is in the same age bracket. not getting his name.
NorwichRed – I agree about Rooney’s pass to Gerrard on the fourth goal. (Also his little one-two with Lennon earlier.) When it happened, it seemed that he had overshot the two attackers in the box and there was a moment when it looked like a terribly overwrought cross but then Gerrard – rather like Martin Peters back in the day – “ghosted” into space and sealed the deal.
But, overall, he had a quiet game. Not as quiet as CR7/9, mind !
I think we’ll have to agree to disagree in our assessments about Emile Heskey – to me he is a bigger, kinder version of Nobby Stiles. Not the player you’d imagine – when playing Football Manager or sitting on the throne – to be a key part of the team but when Emile Ivanhoe Heskey plays, Ingerland generally win. Coincidence ? I don’t think so – Heskey’s considerable presence frees time/space for Rooney and that allows Rooney to do his thing. Heskey’s “Bulldozer” also buys time/space for Gerrard coming in from the left and Lennon on the right. Heskey can be compared to some kind of super-gravity force that compacts the defence for the benefit of his team-mates. Hugely under-rated in the role he plays.
I admit that this argument seems almost counter-intuitive – rather like Gilberto Silva’s role in cementing Brazil’s defence or Burruchaga doing Argentina’s dirty work for Maradona, to reach further back in the memory bank – but sometimes the best player isn’t necessarily the best man for the job. Heskey’s value is what he provides “off the ball” – quite clearly, his value “on the ball” is ludicrously low.
That “Bulldozer” effect is why I have consistently championed Kenwynne Jones as a perfect center forward for TheLads – not because he’s a world-class talent but because he would provide that needed blend of size/power/speed/aggression with far more skill. Having someone like Jones playing ahead of Rooney would be an elixir – yet no one would compare Jones’ skill-set with Dimitar Berbatov.
