Paul Scholes has spoken about his return to the first team during the 2011-12 season, following his retirement the season before.

Having trained with the Reserves, Scholes has revealed that he felt fit and ready to play. He was so determined to come back that he would have even signed for another club if Manchester United hadn’t been interested in letting him come back.

Scholes spoke to Gary and Phil Neville, before getting the nod from assistant manager Mike Phelan. Scholes then approached Sir Alex Ferguson who called David Gill straight away to sort out his contract.

They kept it a secret from the rest of the squad though, with United set to play Manchester City away, and then he was named as a substitute. He didn’t have a sponsor though so had to go to a sports shop to buy his own boots.
