I don’t care who we get in the next round even iif it’s Inter. The mistake Chelsea made was letting Inter settle on the ball we won’t make the same mistake. On topic, the fa are a disgrace 2 fucking weeks in a row they let the thug of but we all know if it had have been Rooney it would have been a straight 3 game ban.
This could either affect Chelsea mentally as they are currently in ‘despair’ as the commentators put it, and the result would be more catastrophic performances and dropping points. Or, they might benefit from no tough european games, especially away fixtures, and may now focus on the league and do their all to win it.
But we should just try to win most of our remaining games and fingers crossed if the current squad stays fit until the rest of the season then all is well. The title deciding game will certainly be our clash with them at OT.
And I can’t remember having watched such a boring game of football before. That is one of the reasons why I don’t think Mourinho will be a better successor to Fergie than say Moyes or Blanc. He may tarnish our attacking philosophy with his defensive formations and possibly not using our wingers effectively. Not just that; his egotistical character, lack of humbleness and humility will not be the best for this club. He is a far cry from our past and current manager. A young, inexperienced/ experienced and possibly ex utd may player well be the perfect choice; even if it means we won’t win trohpies for another couple of years. We will need someone who is guaranteed to stay at this club for a long time. Mourinho injected arrogance into his darling rentboys and they were even more sickening than they are right now when under his management. I wouldn’t want him to try that on any Utd player.

I saw this incident last night. I imagine if Stevie smashed the ref instead of Brown with his forearm, or swore at the ref in the face instead of showing a ‘V’ sign he would still be spared from punishment. As we all know anyone associated with Liverpool FC is a saint.

King Eric – the CM was only going to be a problem if anderson contined to struggle and scholes was starting to show his age like the past phew years since the 07/08 season where he was having 3 good games out of 7 and tactically it could have been a gigantic problem, the good thing is holy trinity of carrick scholes and fletcher for the past phew months propably since january have been outstanding carrick is behind fletcher and scholes on current form on infulencing the game. The wide players at the start of the season big questions were being asked with ronaldo gone, luckely valencia and nani have stepped up especially nani who has added that extra dimension to uniteds game, park has been outstanding, he has shown far more more end product and is effecting games in the final third than what he was doing last year, and giggs has been class again this season. but for united it was always finding a new identity they may have found it

Hi Ghtt, I’m so pleased Emily had a good time at Old Trafford, including meeting 2 real legends in Sir Bobby and Paddy. I’d love you to read my account of my first time seeing United in the flesh, 50 years ago this month. It’s called ‘Watching United 50 Years Ago: Fulham v United , March 26th 1960′. It’s still just in Recent Entries . I thought of Emily as I wrote it, and I love the idea of the 50 year gap.

Anyway. Looking at the final 8 og the C.L., I must say that I am feeling a bit more positive about our chances than I did at the start of the season. It’s a big bonus that we don’t have to deal with the likes of Milan, Chelsea and Real. But a lot will depend on the period from March 30th to April 7th. That’s when the Quarter finals of the C.L. as well as the Chelsea game will happen. We will have to find a perfect balance between the two obligations.
@ JD- there’s a difference between utd parking the bus against barca in 07/08 and chelsea doing it. the major difference is chelsea do it EVERY week. even when they’re thrashing crap teams 5-0, it’s mostly because they either catch them on the break, or because drogba is very effective at raping inferior defences. when united parked the bus against barca, it showed that we have a team who can adapt to many different tactics, unlike arsenal for example. i think the quality of football from utd has improved this season over the previous season for sure. we did play some exciting football at some points of the season, but it was more restrained than this year.
and yeah i know ghtt and emily are irish, but you still have way more access to the club than us poor fans all over the world. i can’t believe i’ve been all over england inc, leeds, lake district, warwick, oxford, huddersbloodyfield! and obviously london and i’ve never been to manchester.

I wish that was the case, but it won’t happen. When Rio elbowed Fagan he had the same status in the England team as Gerrard does now. The FA’s excuse in this, is that the referee was happy with how he handled the Gerrard incident. It’s pretty moronic, but that’s the FA for you.

thank you so much for those comments Emily had a ball. @ Giles I read the artical about your first game and I taught it amazing that 50 years later it was my besties turn. Emily had a ball and a little story about emilys first time in old trafford when the team sheet was been read out Emily cheered so loud after everyone of the names. But then 46 seconds later she asked me why noone cheered, I heared no boos after gills name at all but Emily was right no one cheered. I taught it strange and a little small that the only person that I heard supporting a Manchester united youngster was a 3 year old

I am distraught and angry about the lack of a ban. I am not surprised and was telling myself that they wouldn’t charge him but I still find myself angry that they didn’t. It is disgraceful that someone can hit someone in the back of the head and get punished and nearly an IDENTICAL situation occurs and no actions is taken. The FA might just be the worst run organization in Pro-Sports.
Not entirely the FAs fault unless you blame them for the rule that prevents them from charging SG since the ref saw full incident and/or letting Stuart Attwell continuing to ref premier league games.
This falls squarely on Attwell who has seen the incident twice now and thinks he handled it appropriately.
Ok I take it back, it is the FAs fault because now 2 referees (Wiley and Attwell) have deemed the intentional throwing of an elbow is not a red card offense where as another referee (Steve Bennett on Rio) does. There should be zero subjectivity on the matter. Intentional elbow to the head = red card/ban.
Maybe karma will play it’s part on Sunday.
