VIDEO: United Target Keeper Manuel Neuer In Action

Manchester United have been linked with Schalke’s 23-year-old goalkeeper Manuel Neuer. Schalke boss Felix Magath has claimed he’s had nothing concrete from United in regards to the young keeper, who has already broken in to the German international set-up.

“I have heard Manchester United would be interested in signing Manuel Neuer,” he said. “But for as long as I don’t receive a concrete approach, I will not make any statement about this.”

    Fantastic keeper and he is only 23. He wud b an excellent buy for Utd!

  2. RJ says:

    Hmmm, I still think that Russian lad (Forgot his name) would be our best bet…

  3. 20LEgend says:

    Remind you of anyone? A certain Danish keeper perhaps?

    I’d love Foster to get a good run and cement his place but this guy looks like he’d be a useful addition as well.

  4. Micky says:

    I don’t want him. We should show our faith in Foster and Kusc. Spending that amount of money for the two months whilst VdS is out would be daft.

    It’s paper talk.

  5. Retro Riley says:

    Hasnt he just made a statement by saying he’s not making a statement?! LOL

    Looks alright to me, very big!

  6. Alpha_RS says:

    Van Der Sar, Foster, Kusckak, and Neuer as first team keepers?

  7. Micky says:

    He looks good though, admittedly.

  8. RJ says:

    @Micky

    I don’t think Foster will ever be that good, he has the talent, but he’s just too injury prone.

  9. aig alex is god says:

    @Micky

    We agree on most things mate,but i will disagree here mate.Foster is no at all comfortable with the ball at his feet when he is under pressure.that is a basic thing and you have to be good at it.Kusczak is not very good to.They may be making some stunning saves time and again but you ahve to get the basics like kicking and being comfortable in posession right and unfortunately they are not able to do that.

    It may be just paper talk but i hope it is true.VDS cant be relied on for more than a year or too.He has been outstanding for the club but he is 38 and we should not forget that.

  10. RJ says:

    Also, a snippet from wiki (Which I didn’t know about):

    “In fact Kuszczak has of late expressed discontent with his situation at Manchester United and is considering his long-term future at the club”

  11. joero says:

    Is anyone able to give a reliable account on this lads Aerial ability. Its an impressive collection of shot stopping and finger tip saves but in the air he could be another Gomes….

  12. joered says:

    3 years younger than foster, potential fan favourite – ja bitte! Fergie sign him up.

  13. Micky says:

    @AIG

    I’m aware that you dislike Foster – I’d rather people voiced their own opinions, that’s why we’re here after all.

    Once he has a few games under his belt he’ll be fine.

  14. Alpha_RS says:

    A German playing for Manchester United?!

  15. aig alex is god says:

    micky

    i dont dislike anybody in the team.i want everyone to do well and if foster makes me eat my words ill happily do so.

    Hope what you say abt him getting better with more games happens.The problem is alsowith his injury prone nature.keepers being injury prone iw wierd and anyways we will need someonte to come in place of VDS.Not necessarilya first choice but we need to have 3 keepers in the first team who can push each other to the limit.

  16. willierednut says:

    5 million, i doubt we wud get em that cheap, of topic did any1 see the scotland fan getting interveiwed after the norway game, he was saying fletcher is’nt good enough for scotland.

  17. Tony Starks says:

    Personally I would love it if this turned out to be true!

  18. Wes_McD says:

    He looks a real talent, and only 23! Keepers don’t reach their prime till late 20′s early 30′s. Foster really needs to step up soon if he’s going to keep this guy away from Utd.

  19. Micky says:

    Off topic, have you seen this?

    Liverpool chasing Ryan Shawcross, ex-United youngster

  20. aig alex is god says:

    @micky

    maybe they want to get one on us for getting owen.He looks a decent player. played very well for stoke last year and is a threat at set pieces too.Hope he dosen’t join them thugh.

  21. Costas says:

    I think that in this case it’s crystal clear that it won’t happen. If we don’t spend money this summer, i don’t think the GK position should be our priority.

  22. whitefieldred says:

    very good keeper, reminds me of Schmiechel

  23. Costas says:

    I meant that if we did spend, i think that Fergie would look to strengthen other positions.

  24. daveob82 says:

    @RJ…. I think you mean Akinfeev (or something along those lines)

    Neuer looks but but everyone looks good on Youtube…. guess I might pay more attention to Bundes league to see what he’s like..
    Schalke want €25 mill for him…. we MAY be able to do business for €10 mill

  25. aig alex is god says:

    costas

    whicha areas do you think apart from defensive midfield?i cant think of any,we have a strong squad onlya quality player like CR7 is lacking but i m sure someone will step up their game this season and do really really well

  26. Costas says:

    @AIG:

    I think defensive midfield and maybe as we said in the other topic, perhaps a defender. I wouldn’t talk about an attacker yet, because like you, i am waiting to see how some of our players step up this year.

    We have 3 goalkeepers already and SAF spoke highly of Kuszczak after the Valencia game. That’s why i don’t see how Neuer could come now. It’s probably Schalke’s way of raising his price.

  27. willierednut says:

    I think bayern munich wud be ahead us for neuer. Wat about cover for evra, he’s the only left back at the club.

  28. Tony Starks says:

    Goalkeeper is the key position of the team, if you don’t have top class in that position it will cost you points, and eventually the league (Don’t get me wrong I’m prepared to give Foster the chance for now..)

    That’s why if the need arose money should not be the hurdle in getting the best (once again I don’t really know enough about this guy to say that he is what we need)

  29. jsos says:

    our dear VDS is in his last season according to last year’s comments. the kuz just isnt good enough and foster is still yet to prove himself. been saying for a while that we need to be looking at keepter options. this kid looks the part

  30. Bag-o-Crack says:

    IMO goalie is the most important player to get right in a squad – a bad keeper will lose you points, a good keeper will save you points.
    We know this more than most with our pedigree of outstanding to mediocre keepers.

    While Foster and Kusz are decent, so were Howard and Caroll..
    Decent just doesn’t cut it at the very top.

    Any keeper can look good on youtube, the true test of keeping ability is cosisitency – making the right call 9 times out of 10, over a sustained period.
    Very few goalkeepers in the world have that.
    Added to this that keepers can quickly lose their form (see Cech and Gomes), getting this position right is as difficult as it is important.

  31. Monday Musa says:

    Sir Alex Ferguson.I donot know why you signed Michael Owen into Man U.
    Instead of you to sign a better player whois better than Owen like Rebrey,Aguro,Young.I am very happy to hear for the youngest keeper you are about signing into Man U,thanks for your effort in looking young players of our generation.

  32. Gudjohnsen says:

    @ willierednut – Evra is not the only left back at the club. Fabio can act as cover, as well as O’Shea and Delaet.

    But about Neuer, he reminds me of Schmeichel in that video. I remember hearing about him but I’ve never seen him in action except on youtube. But I agree with some people on here, I would like to see him in the air. Kuzichak is an ok shot stopper and you could make a compilation video of him doing that which would look good, but his aerial ability is shit. That video of Foster Micky posted also looks quite good so let’s not get quite ahead of ourselves, youtube doesn’t tell the whole story.

    I don’t think we’ll act on this German just yet. Perhaps next summer if he’s still available.

  33. Micky says:

    @AIG & Costa

    I respect and like you both, but you’re both mental.

    We don’t need a defensive midfielder!

  34. aig alex is god says:

    micky.we have only fletch there.ando and carrick are nt good at that.hargos injury may be a carrer threatning one.we dnt knw.we cnt start with jst one mid and no back up.we shud sign a young good defensive mid.we have seen what happens wen we dnt have a defensive mid in rome and fletch cant play al games.we play nearly 60 games al season.

  35. Costas says:

    Micky, i meant in case Hargo doesn’t make it. We can’t just rely on Carrick and Fletcher and i think that Ando’s best position is as an attacking midfielder(as long as he perfects his passing and shooting). No offence taken.

  36. Luxuslev says:

    I hope that Sergio Asenjo, Igor Akeenvif og Neuer here becomes our next goalkeeper, I dont trust Foster anymore.

  37. BlackBabyJesus says:

    Looks excellent. Love to watch a keeper who can sometimes hold on to the ball instead of punching it away.

  38. aig alex is god says:

    micky.also analyze the big a games carefully frm last seasom.our midfield was poor apart frm chelsea at home.bcoz we did nt have smeone who could hassle thn opposition and force them to make errors.

  39. willierednut says:

    @Gudjohnsen i meant left footed left back.

  40. Jig says:

    Always crazy making a judgment on a player based on youtube clips but the guy looks very talented, definitely reminiscent of the big man. I like how he closes down onrushing players, it’s a pro-active approach to goalkeeping that is quite rare. Foster tends to be glued to the line, only rushing out if it’s critical. Having said that Neuer may screw up half the time he rushes out, they rarely show balanced clips.

    Oh & on the defensive midfielder, I’d rather we spend money on an attacking CM considering we’ve spent the past two years converting Ando into another Defensive CM. Fletcher, Hargreaves, Carrick, O’Shea, Anderson! Not another please.

  41. clj7 says:

    at least he gets back up after making a save

  42. Androo says:

    I got a Schmiechel shiver looking at that clip. I like Foster, and do want him to succeed at our club but this man looks good!

    All the better if we do sign him eh?

  43. Micky says:

    If Hargreaves comes back, then he’ll be ideal. If not, Gibson gets a chance, or Possebon, or Petrucci.

    Miguel Veloso would be good in that spot, but I don’t think we need anyone yet. Give it to January at least. Then, if Hargo still isn’t back and the reserves aren’t doing the job, get someone in.

  44. Tony Starks says:

    @clj7

    ‘at least he gets back up after making a save’

    that is a classic comment!

  45. Dani says:

    Neuer is a great, skilled goalkeeper. I saw many of his games past seasons, but his game against Porto was incredible.

    Plus, I got him in Fifa, and he grew wonderfully, was a keeper for a decade. lol.

  46. mario says:

    what a beast …

  47. evras left boot says:

    I hope this rumour is true , i watched him on holidays when the u21 was on , and he was unbelievable , great all round keeper … i dont know if its in the video but in one of his games he made the best clearance from a free kick ive ever seen :P , nickleback tho , eugh ha

  48. rajiv.r3 says:

    From what I’ve seen in the video footage, I think he’s worth the money that Fergie intends to use to get him before Bayern does. He reminds me a lot of our Great Dane Schmeichel – the best goalie MU has ever had. Hopefully Neuer will be able to emulate him.

  49. Micky says:

    Alright calm down fella.

    You’ve seen one YouTube video and suddenly you believe he’s worth £5m and able to emulate the Great Dane?

  50. Devilton says:

    Sign him up Fergie…You know Ben Foster doesn’t have the bottle to make it as United’s #1!!!

  51. Maik says:

    He looks good, and seeing him in that green jersey brought some serious deja vu, but he still needs to work on his 1 on 1s, his defence saved his ass a couple of times there. Still, he’s only 23.

  52. King Eric says:

    Fucking hell what is wrong with people? A couple of “dodgy” moments from Ben pre season and people are writing the lad off already. How do you know this one is gonna be any better? Oh that’s right because of a 6 minute youtube clip!

  53. schmikes1 says:

    come on Micky, don’t be so harsh, he’s clearly worth £5m at the very least! He’s highly rated by Schalke, is their no. 1 keeper and is in the German setup, so is clearly a good prospect. He also seems like a quality shot stopper with very quick reactions, as shown by a couple of the clips. At 23, hes got a couple of years on Foster and Kuzczack, and has already been playing first team football at a top club. Schmeichel was signed at a bargain price and £5m for what seems like a hell of a keeper, would be a snip!

  54. jcolas says:

    I have faith in Foster’s abilities, but I don’t think he’s all there mentally. He seems to me to be better when he was at watford than now. He looks like he’s afraid of his shadow (during shield match) and we can’t afford that long term since the defence is often organized from the goal keeper forward.

    And if Kusc. is unhappy then let him go somewhere he’ll play more than 8 times a season and sign neuer up!

  55. Cavalry says:

    He has that kind of form at 23? Assuming he doesn’t peak early, we could be set for a decade with this kid.

  56. rossee says:

    FOSTER IS A KLUTZ, KUZACK IS BOLLOX….FERGIE GO GET THAT KRAUT ….LOOKS LIKE THE NEXT SCHMEICHAL…….

  57. kel says:

    Seriously speaking, Neuer reminds me of Schmeichel too. I been mentioning foster save most with his foot and his hand is not as strong as foot. As for kicking, he is not very comfortable as mention by some post and i agree with it, he is anxious and not confident on the ball and that is really a bad thing consider that is the most basic thing. Of course i do like him to continue in our club but hope he really can step up if not, i really losing faith in him. Neuer looks kind of good and if reports is true, Sir Alex will have send scouts to see him in action and was impress. Not by youtube standard. Another point i want to make is in the defensive midfield area, i agree with those who said that is the area we need to improve. I do hope Hargreaves come back if not we need another. Gibson is not defensive midfielder. Possebon is load out and Petrucci not even start regularly. We seriously need another defensive midfielder if we were to win the champions league this season.

  58. 20legend99 says:

    He really is Schmeichel-esque. All indicators point to Foster not being a top choice keeper, and we only have one more year tops out of VDS. This kid looks class, I really hope we get him. Remember how hard it was to get another good keeper after Schmeichel? Let’s not go through that again.

  59. Dave Mack says:

    Highlights video like this don’t tell you anything. Just about every keeper in just about any league could put something equally impressive together over a season. What I’d want to see is how he handles crosses and corners. Does he control his six yard box? And most important is he two footed and how accrute is his kicking and throwing? The sort of keeper I love to see is one you’d fancy as having a chance of holding his place as a central defender, at least in the reserves. (A bit of an exageration …. but you know what I mean!!)

  60. ash says:

    the season hasnt started and we want foster out of the team. cmon guys ben has hardly played for united. when alex give the likes of carrol a season to perform y not foster. for me he is the number 1 keeper for both england and united.but this german lad looks great. wont mind if he comes to united.

  61. Micky says:

    @schmikes1

    My point was the guy above watched ONE edited video of him and said ‘he looks worth the money’.

    I’ll be honest, I’ve never heard of him. I’ve never seen him play. All I’ve ever seen of the lad is that video and he looks amazing. But should I go to YouTube and find a video that makes Taibi look like The Great Dane to prove my point?

    He could be gash. The same game he made one amazing save, he might have let someone meg him from 80 yards for all we know. He might be fantastic and he might be a snip at £5m, but we can’t tell that from one video surely?

    Is there anyone on here that has seen him quite a bit?

  62. manutd4eve says:

    i do follow bundes liga games very closely for some reasons. yes this guy was very impressive last season. just only 23 and imagine when he comes to foster’s age. foster is a gud goalie and i want an english keeper to do the job for my mighty united but not convinced in foster. surely manutd signing him in january for sure. most of the big clubs not interested in him coz they all got good ones at the same time he dont want to b in the bench as he is a main candidate for german. sign him up fergie. lets give some chance to foster untill VDS recover then decide whether we want this guy or not.

  63. shakshamboo says:

    From this video i have concluded that
    On a scale of 1 to 10
    (error consideration= +-1)

    Foster:

    Reflexes=8
    Anticipation=7
    Positioning=7
    Handling=8
    Aerial Ability=8
    Kicking=8
    Throwing=8

    Neuer:

    Reflexes=9
    Anticipation=9
    Positioning=9
    Handling=8
    Aerial Ability=?
    Kicking=?
    Throwing=?

    What do u guys think?

  64. dazbowski says:

    oh rossee, what an intelligent statement, not only are you racist and can’t spell, you’ve clearly no idea what your talking about!
