VIDEO: Van Persie’s First United Interview

“It was quite funny,” he said. “Before training I introduced myself to the players and of course we know each other because we’ve played against each other many times. It was quite funny. There were lots of smiles and jokes. It feels like a big family.”

Actually I’m not that bitter, but obviously sad to see us lose a great player and he will never be seen as an Arsenal legend now (which if he had continued last season’s form AND stayed with us he surely would have).
We got a good fee for him and he kept us out of the shit last year but he will won;t be warmly welcomed back at the Emirates but I’m sure the 200K plus he will be earning a week will mean that I doubt he will give a fuck.

Anyway this was an interesting blog piece I read on the whole piece

p.s enjoy his left foot, it’s pretty special :)

when you make a big decision I like to listen to the little boy inside me, and that little boy was screaming Man United.

good post mate i would be exactly the same role reversal. Whats your thoughts on Song?

  12. Utd4life says:

RVP sure knows how to rub it into the Gooner fans. I can kinda understand how the Arsenal fans feel because we were in a similar situation when we sold Ronaldo to the Virus. I remember how I felt when I saw Ronaldo in the Virus jersey, it made me sick. We groomed him, mentored him and made him a superstar before Real snatched him away from us so I can understand how the Gooners feel but I am sure Arsene Wenger must have anticipated his departure and he must have made plans accordingly else he wouldn’t be at the helm for a decade or so. I am sure Arsenal will bounce back. I would much rather have them as rivals than City.

  13. United4ever says:

Fuckin brilliant, only thing is that Fergie should have a chat with him and tell him it is United and not man u.

  14. United4ever says:

Btw here is a chant for Van Persie.

    Viva Van Persie.
    Viva Van Persie.
Wenger couldn’t win the cup so Fergie signed him up.
    Viva Van Persie.

  15. wambam says:

    Giggs12 –

With regards to Song, he’s well liked in the team, but we also do recognise that he can be a weak link at times. He’s there to cover, and he’s often in final third because of lack of discipline. I can see us replacing him and improving even though his character will be a loss.

  16. wayne says:

Gooner 77 i guess that’s a good spin on Gunners becoming a feeder club, don’t see how selling all the clubs top players is a good thing and are hardly at the pinnacle of the game anymore, slowly becoming top 6 instead of challenging for the title

  17. Red Darule says:

I‘m that little boy inside RVP.

  18. Giggs12Gerrard0 says:

I can understand Van Persie wanting to leave six years trophy less and he has seen all the best players sold in recent times. it was us or city as he didnt see Juve as a viable solution to play at the top of his game.

It would never go down well regardless of how much he respects Arsenal the fans will not forgive.

  19. tobechukwu says:

i think vanpersie made a good decision, but he still love arsenal to the core….i think he really need trophy, that’s is the main reason he went there, good luck to him….i think man-u ‘ll guarantee him a trophy.

  20. Devil310 says:

@Giggs12 – how goes it mate? how’s the atmosphere like at Manchester? I’m wearing my United polo to work with the biggest smile on my face. People keep asking me what’s up with me?…..They don’t understand…..lol

I will make my way up there this season one way or another. Hope all is well mate

  21. xol says:

Utd4life – true that. Didn’t enjoy watching Ronnie’s unveiling at Real. What made that worse was it came after years of Real bragging he’d be their man. I even remember a representative publicly suggesting United should name their price. I suppose the difference is United earn that 200k per week that the player gets and Real’s comes from the fairies at the bottom of the garden. Have to feel for Arsenal.

  22. Gooner77 says:

@Giggs12Gerrard0 Thoughts on Song? Well let’s be honest he’s no Patrick Viera is he?
He’s been good for us the last couple of seasons though even though he positional discipline can be dreadful. Not massively bothered if he leaves but we will need a replacement

    @Wayne
As fans we will never know what goes on behind closed doors with players, teams and agents. Myles Palmer posted this which was from a BBC report about Wenger and RVP which is interesting
    http://www.arsenalnewsreview.co.uk/index.php/news/2601/30/Wenger-to-Van-Persie-You-re-no-longer-part-of-my-plans

The article I posted, with regard to Arsenal, just effectively stated that this is the clubs way of clinging to the top of the tree (albeit not winning trophies) in the the modern age of football. The business plan is sound and we’ve always managed to survive despite losing big players. Put it this way I’d rather be in our position than Liverpools. The other point is that despite winning trophies over the last few years Chelsea and City have not come close to clubs like United and Arsenal in terms of their fanbase both at home or abroad. Which proves two things a. You may be able to buy trophies but you cannot buy history and a fanbase b. The public worldwide recognise the difference between great sporting institutions and oil funded playthings such as Chelsea and City

  23. Utd4life says:

Giggs12Gerrard0. That’s true mate. Arsenal fans won’t forgive him. I have friends who are Arsenal fans and they have been ripping into RVP ever since the deal was confirmed. Players want to win trophies because that’s what defines their playing career. The only reason he left Arsenal was because Arsenal had not won a trophy for the last 7 years and it looks unlikely that they will win a major trophy any time soon. And seeing players like Fabregas, Nasri, Clichy, Toure leave the club didn’t help his cause. His time was running out and he made his move. Had Arsenal been winning trophies then he would not have left because like Gooner77 said, he was well on his way toward becoming an Arsenal legend.

  24. a says:

It was never us or City, did he not make that clear? United was the only option, City (or Juventus) was never.

  25. vivaronaldoooo says:

Understandable by the gooners to be guted! imagine if we sold wazza to arsenal? (i couldnt imagine why) but if we did the banners would be up sooner rather than later! RVP is an exceptional talent..

ive read alot of various comments on other webstes referring to him as another berbatov??

berbatov is of the highest calibre and is a gent, look how he has slipped from the united team, but still acts like a total professional, DB9 is the role model for everyone who puts on that shirt, and loves that club so much!

so if RVP is half the man dimi is, he deserves to wear that shirt.

  26. Utd4life says:

xol. Real Madrid might have a rich history but at present they look more like a circus than a great football club. The way they unveiled Kaka and Ronaldo was pathetic and disgusting. Parading them around the ground as if they were some kind of circus animals.

  27. Giggs12Gerrard0 says:

    A

Of course he said that, that is exactly my point. Arse fans will be pissed off but he had no choice in that respect.

    Devil310

Mate the town is buzzing i fucking love see the blues becoming bitter again.

  28. Gooner77 says:

A surprisingly coherant and rational analysis of the transfer saga from none other than Ian Wirght

  29. wayne says:

Gooner77 this is what’s puzzling to me,Gunners ticket prices are the highest in England one of the richest clubs in the world yet are not prepared to pay the top wages to keep players
Think the difference is Utd went through the Rooney incident but no way Sir Alex was letting him leave for City so got a contract sorted within a week.Gunners are just letting big clubs pick off the top players, seems like a distubing trend to me.Gunners should actually be right in there with Utd battling these rentboy teams

  30. Devil310 says:

    Giggs12

Bitters will be bitters mate. They might have won last season, but we’re still in a different class

  31. Gooner77 says:

@Wayne Yeah thats why so many Arsenal fans have been angry over the past few years – paying more than anyone else in the country to watch their team and not winning anything.
As I said as fans we will never know for sure, but what I do know is that property and land prices in London are astronomical and, despite the ongoing recession, continue to go up.

Secondly the sponsorship deals we did ahead of our stadium move were not very good but were done when the club was desperate to raise money for the stadium i.e once they expire the club should be able to negotiate far better deal.

Thirdly. With the Glazer as owners ARE Manchester United in a position to pay such huge wages? In fact is any club that operates as a business i.e living within it’s means, able to pay those wages? A couple of years ago we were bauling at Terry and Lampard earning 130k a week and now players are earning 250k a week. How long can they continue to rise at this rate? Will we get into a situation where players are earning a million pounds a week?
You could say that if any club could afford the high wages it would be Manchester United but BEFORE the Glazers loaded their debts onto the club.

The likes of Barca and Real Madrid have apprently been operating on a massive deficit for years but due to them being such huge sporting AND social institutions the banks have never called in their debts, but given the financial prblems in Spain will that now change?

  32. wayne says:

Gooner77 Utd have always operated wages around 50 percent of wages/revenue even before the Glazers.Utd have the 3rd biggest payroll in the prem but well within the revenue.
Sir Alex won’t pay the fucking stupid wages the rentboy clubs pay,I’m sure if RVP was strictly looking for a paycheck would’ve gone to City pretty clear by his comments has some disdain for them

  33. rvanpursestring says:

Footballers are so full of s**t.
    It’s spot-the-liar time:

van Persie Snr – Telegraph 28/4/2012: “Robin decided he wanted to go to Arsenal. When he was as young as 11, he was wearing an Arsenal shirt. He liked their way of playing.”

RvP – Telegraph today: “I always listen to that little boy inside me. What does he want? That boy was screaming for Manchester United.”

No bad feeling Robin? Just wait until 27/4/2013 – might be a good idea to be injured.

  34. a says:

    Giggs12Gerrard0

You said: “…it was us or city as he didnt see Juve as a viable solution to play at the top of his game.”

You are wrong. RVP only wanted to join United. He never contemplated the idea of joining City.

  35. Red Devil says:

A very mature and level-headed interview I must say

He paid a debt of gratitude to Arsenal and Arsene Wenger which was good to see after the grooming he got for 8 years…There’s too many people who forget where they came from and their roots and the people who helped them be what they are..but he paid his dues there so good lad.

Then he talked a lot about the team as a whole, a sum of parts when discussing his role and how he can polay different roles and help the team win.

He kept saying ‘big things’ to win…he’s ambitious and wants to win trophies…I especially liked the part where he said about hunger and how losing in a gut wrenching way like that can make you hungrier to win again…thats a true sign of a winner

Good lad and Welcome once again to United. Hope you can do yourself and us fans proud..

I know what I said mate as I said it. I said his options were united and city and he chose United. When two teams bid then you have a choice. His choice was only United.

  37. a says:

No you are wrong. United was his only option, regardless of City and Juve bidding for him.

  38. Giggs12Gerrard0 says:

    A
Your wrong pal! His choice was United his options were city, Juve and united.

  39. utd_fc says:

Aah so close. It was all well and good till he uttered Man U. Really ticks me off. Ah well, he’ll learn, it’s only his first day ;)

  40. Redbilly says:

Gooner77- 17:01. Thanks for the comments and best of luck for next season , I unlike some on here respect arsenal and hope they / we can recapture the classic rivalry.

  41. CJ7 says:

Don’t like to say ManU myself…but really whats wrong with it?

  42. JC says:

WTF is wrong with you “a”, your argument makes you look the fool. He had choices, he chose United. Im ecstatic and hopefully my feelings will multiply throughout the season as we watch a historic campaign.

  43. a says:

To himself his only option was United regardless of City’s interest. He said this.

  44. DreadedRed says:

    a

Be an a+ not an a hole.

You seem quite worked up over semantics, perhaps the off-season has dragged a little.
    Roll on Monday!

ps You are absolutely incorrect. RVP considered both Manchester premier league clubs and found that United are the better choice in every way.

  45. ManUforeva says:

To be honest, I looked at Van Persie a little different from early last season. I observed his body language after we scored against him or when he scored against us and he never looked antagonistic nor did he celebrated ‘with a vengence’ like some of the other players from around the PL. Maybe the Dutch players are more civil towards United as they’re a more accomplished country football and economic wise.

  46. Giggs12Gerrard0 says:

    A

There is a full thread titled why I chose United over City if you look back.

JC and Dreadedred have detailed everything i would need to add.

  47. Hittess says:

    RVP is quality!!
