Two footed tackle, I’m sure if it was against us we’d have a slightly different opinion… But even then, no malice, not high, won the ball, only touched Petrov (?) with one foot. Especially taking the other decisions into account, it was very harsh.
fuck no
Although I wouldn’t say he’s wrong but that ref today was utterly incompetent. That blatant foul on Valencia which he didn’t give. What a joker. Luckily, super agent Saha bailed us out but we really need to push harder instead of depending on Chelsea to drop points. There were some awful misses today that could’ve be dealt with better.
A bit of a stupid tackle, but he was certainly going for the ball and had no intent to harm Petrov what so ever. A yellow and a talking to would have sufficed.
I think it was a red, but overall Walton is a a disgrace for a referee.
Hope Nani doesn’t react too badly to it now that he’s been in good form.
well he’s jumping in like a maniac (or keano by the time LOL) but he is getting the ball! i would be fine with a yellow… tnx toffees that they kept the rentboys from scorin a second!
Can understand it to be honest. It isn’t the prettiest tackle ever.
The fucking rentboys lose..And we piss away yet another chance
yes,cant complain much. why did he do it in the first place knowing it is a risk you are taking and can be sent off. Silly nani. now he misses 3 games
Do you guys think SAF will start Nani vs. Milan after this?
Intresting that SAF had nothing to say after that. He didnt move an inch. If he disagrees he usually has a go at the ref.
Def red card and anyone who doesn’t think so is only codding themselves. A naive tackle.
@The HZA
I think he has to. Valencia did a great team job, but wasn’t penetrating enough.
Yet again referees cost us points.
Even down to 10 we should have still won the match.
Thanks to Everton for saving the day, but we have missed yet another opportunity.
Young tackled Valencia towards the end and was NOWHERE near the ball. He just got Valencia’s foot. The referee’s reaction? Play on. Xenophobic bastard.
definitely
It’s one of those, it can go either way. Yes, it’s dangerous if he makes full contact, but what about when he doesn’t? A yellow card and a word would have sufficed.
Petrov’s antics played a big part. If he’d have got up and berated Nani for the intent, Nani gets a yellow. As it is, he rolls around like his leg is broken. He’s obviously convinced the referee that Nani’s made sufficient contact to warrant a red.
Cuellar and Ashley Young should have been sent off by the same standards. Bit harsh for a red on Nani and Petrov over dramatises it as usual, cunt. It’s a shame because he’s been playing so well and I would want him to play against Milan away.
Petrov was substituted in the second half.
This Villa side is pathetic. And they want 4th place finish ?
At the end of the day not bad evening for us but it could have been better.
We can play football right now and looking at the Chelsea team i think we have every chance of winning EPL. But it will go till the end.
Yellow. If this is red then what about Terry challenge on Carrick in the penalty box?? No foul whatsoever and his feet is high up and there is little contact which is the same as Nani’s one. You see petrov, he shout as if his leg is broken!
did anyone else notice that cuellar did not make an attempt to win the ball, rather just stood waiting for contact before tumbling over??? i mean either go for the ball or if you see someone coming at you jump and get out of the fuckin way. pisses me off this.
and not to mention the smugness with which the ref brandished the card. AAAARRGGH.
Red. Simple as that. Nani has been known to lose his cool every now and then. It wasn’t meant to hurt the “best supporting actor” on the pitch Petrov, but it was a two-footer and that’s the end of it. He needs to learn,that boy.
His issue is, how will I bounce back.
stupid tackle but a yellow card for me
right petrov, not cuellar.
No no no no no fuckin refs , whole season against us
@Sanatarium
Seems over eager too to pull a red. These Hollywood jokers should stay the fuck out of the refereeing business!
The tackle on valencia again at the end. The opponent pulls him down without touching the ball. No card! No consistent. Poor referee. The foul on Rooney when he nears the penatly area when he attacks. No foul. Rooney was obviously not happy with him.
Guys, i don’t think it is the appropriate time to blame the referee. Most of this tackles are sanctioned with red cards these days in England. The ref was a disgrace but Nani wasn’t right to do what he did. It’s the middle of the field, lad! But the funny thing is that most of this red card tackles take place in the middle.
that ref is a home referee every time,i have issues with him
If it had been Dirk Kyut making the same foul on Fletcher we would all be calling for a red. That was a straight red. Maybe a bit harsh but it was deserved.
@Corea
Yeah, it wasn’t Walton’s fault we didn’t win tonight. All we had to do was make sure not to give him the initiative to make decisions like that. But overall, he was dreadful as a referee. Doesn’t belong in the premier League.
Pretty poor tackle. Hard to defend.
It’s a lot harder to accept as a red considering Liverpool and Everton brought nunchuks and baseball bats onto the pitch on Saturday.
SB
Some of the Villa tackles were shocking and not any bookings, young in particular was bad bad. Giggs got kneed in the chest and again no booking.
Jonny Evans gets a yellow for pulling a man back but 10 mins later two villa men do the same and play gets waved on.
Still all in all would have taken tonights results at the start, good man Louis.
Both feet off the ground. Don’t lie to yourself.
Goodnight.
@ Corea
It was not just the red card to complain about. There were several incidents deep on the Villa half of the pitch, that he did not give us, yet he was giving them fouls for slightest contact.
I was quite frustrated by Valencia’s froward play tonight. He could have made more of several situations and his delivery was simply awful.
lol two beers an i spelt my name wrong went in moderation, yep thats a yellow card and a stern warning
I’m in a surprisingly good mood despite the dropped points. So I’m able to admit that that is a pretty blatant red card.
Louis’ still a red
@Corea
I dont see how you see it. His left leg flew in but he didn’t tackle with it. He just slip straight on the ground. Not sure why you keep saying he should be red carded. I believe if its Rooney you could be complaining like hell. I dont care if other people tackles our player.
@arsene wenger
Good win for your lot. Did you see Gerrard the starfish at the dying moments?
Not a red card. Petrov came in from the back, so Nani could not have seen him coming when he went for the ball. Hence, I don’t think there was malice in the play. Unless Nani has eyes in the back of his head… Nani, however, should have known better. Definitely inconsistent calls, from the portions of the game I was able to see (e.g., two rugby tackles on Valencia, where Young and Cuellar were not even going for the ball…)
HELL NO!
Just think that you jump into a tackle like that right in front of the ref, he has no option to send off, have see worse tackles go unpunished this season but you have to roll with the punches. Overall Walton is a poor ref.
Disappointing not to take full advantage of the Chavs slip up but hey down to one point.
LUHG
yes it is,
it wasn that nasty. stevie me and John “i’ll fuck my mates girlfriend while he’s out having lunch” Terry would never have been sent of for something like this. wilson palacios makes at least one of these every game.
we’ll see on 20th if Luis is still a red. I strongly doubt that…
anyway, I believe it’s a red. it could be a yellow, but
the tackle was nowhere near the danger zone. it was plain stupid.
fortunately CFC didn’t seize the opportunity to leave us behind.
I’m happy with the game and the result. Villa Park is a harsh area to play.
plus, our team proved to be in a great shape, dominating the pitch
through the rest of the game. I feel satisfied.
just hope Everton won’t surprise us in 10 days time…
- Not sure about the red, probably yellow. Really impressed with the acting though.
- Villa are booring, 60 minutes of 10vs.11 and the do F*ck all.
- Fletcher and Rooney was brilliant (again)
- We probably should have won
- Friedel always plays to his best ability against us.
- Off topic; Fabregas wasn’t INSIDE the penalty area.
It’s a poor tackle but deserves a yellow, not a red – the second foot comes up after he’s made it. When I saw Johnny Evans getting a yellow for nothing two minutes earlier I knew we were playing the referee as well as the Villa.
Thankfully in the Carling Cup final it will be different; the sponsors won’t tolerate their annual showpiece being f**cked up by a dodgy referee – You’ve made a lot of enemies today Peter Walton – let’s hope you don’t run into one of them anytime soon – we are Everywhere!
It seemed a spectacular jump by Petrov. I don´t think that helped the referee much in making a decision.
I don´t know but did Petrov play on? Because he looked like he had been killed.
Shame for Nani, who will now miss the Carling Cup Final if he was going to be picked. I hate it when players miss finals because of cards.
Come on you MIGHTY REDS.
LUHG
If it was a red, then Villa should have ended the match with 9 men, though Nani made a stupid tackle. I didn’t like the ref’s decisions all night. Another chance missed to go top.
Scumbag ref.
Dangerous definitely, but the ref could clearly see nani connect with the ball.
We gained a point on Chelsea today…Shit happens. if lampard did that against fletch we would have wanted Red so whatever. I guess this is another test for Nani to see if he can come back as keep his momentum. At least he was trying to get back the ball which is more than we cud say about Nani before this brief stretch of great games
Petrov was a disgrace rolling around though
Doesnt seem to care what we think – does it?!?!?!
Could have gone either way, ive seen player walk for less but ive seen players stay on the field for a lot worse. IF it had been a foul on a utd player like that everyone would be screaming for a red.
Debateable. Yes it was 2-footed, but he got the ball completely and didn’t injure anyone. It had no malice, but was wild and naive. You can see why the ref sent him off, even though I can genuinely see a case for not red-carding him. But the reason Fergie and Phelan didn’t make a fuss is because they know they have antagonised the FA and the refereeing community so much by criticising decisions United never get a fair crack of the whip any more. It looks to me like they have taken a conscious decision to take the heat out of the situation for a while by responding in un-provocative ways, and hope when we’re really into squeaky-bum time we get more of the decisions. What galls me is that Rio has already withdrawn his appeal, partly as the new England captain, but also, I suspect, because they all now know United always get punished more than others for similar offences. It’s years since I trusted the FA to be fair to United. Referees just seem to get worse , year after year, and I don’t know what the solution is.
Wasn’t it weird that ‘Villans’ did not get a single yellow card, despite all the dangerous tackles they made? Petrov is a cunt, acting as if Nani had disjointed his feckin ankle, Limps of when subbed, after he had tackled United players countless of times after his ‘apparent’ pain.
Seen them given and sometimes not. Bit of a strikers challenge and Petrov made a meal of it. Gave Chelsea a break but they must be knackered after that game.
harsh, but a red………………..if that had been terry on giggs we’d have been screaming blue murder. the standard of refereeing this year has been awful, no consistency with decisions and scenarios. still…….a point gained on the russians when down to ten men is a positive result methinks.
Petrov made a meal of it, but i can see why he went. If it was against us we’d be seething.
This is very strange…..When Fletcher became great, he saw red several times; and now is it Nani’s turn???? Should have been a yellow and a warning.
Yeah, that’s a red. It’s naive rather than nasty… but it’s reckless.
For refs the important thing is that he isn’t in control of the tackle. That makes it dangerous… and therefore a red.
Fergie agreed it was a red. End of the story, really.
That’s a red…even though he got the ball, the manner of the challenge meant the ref was only ever going to send him off…even SAF didn’t argue with this particular decision…unfortunate, as Nani isn’t a dirty player.
It’s a clear red card.
You can’t expect to jump into a tackle, two feet off the ground, studs up and walk away with anything less than a red.
If there was any doubt, Fergie would have blamed the drop points on the officials.
It would be a different story if Nani didn’t get sent off. Although we control the possession it is obvious that there is a choke on the development of our attacks.
I think the tackle worth a yellow card because he did won the ball first. Bad decision from the referee.
unfortunately i agree with the red card, he left his feet to make the tackle and under the rules thats a red… had to work and missed the game but after that im glad we salvaged the point and chelsea dropped all 3 (hahah thanks Saha)
are u kidding me mates, how can that NOT be red. fergie was being nice when he said naive, the tackle by nani was fuckin ballistic. 1. lunging in mid air 2. with both legs out 3.leading with the studs 4. right into the opponent’s feet. fuck u could be sent off for any one those yet alone ALL FOUR. naive is believing that just because he got the ball, tat automatically means it shouldnt be a red. cmon please mates, red tints can any do so much.
From the ref’s angle, he couldnt have seen that nani caught the ball as well as some of petrov’s foot. I think the body language of the lunge gave it more credence from ref’s point of view.
A red card is what was coming, considering these type of border decisions never go our way. Now, JT would have got away with a yellow at most. Carra would have. But not a United player. That’s sadly how it is for us.
I am sorry, but NO WAY that is an effing red! For crying out loud, he got the ball, led in with one feet (you cant possibly tuck in the other foot every time you go in – anybody who has played the game would understand that). Terry does it – he is the british bulldog (complete with scissors bite), Carragher rugby tackles Owen, and its not even a goddamn yellow and a red for Nani when he clearly gets the ball. Bloody hell, I just dont understand how one can demand RESPECT for someone who is just not good at his job – this is a football match, not a bloody garden picnic! One cant help but believe, that they have lined up to rob us off the fourth, but you know what, we will still get there! Bring on Milan!
quite similar to young’s harsh tackle on antonio
In slow motion: No.
In live view as a ref: Yes.
Nani shouldn’t have gone into the air.
C’mon y’all, even SAF thought it was a red.
theres comments of ‘if another player did this to a united player wed be saying it was a red’ if the tackle was on a united player we all know it wouldnt have received a red. says a lot about villas ambition when we dominated them with 10 men
Giles Oakley @ 1:04: ” United always get punished more than others for similar offences. It’s years since I trusted the FA to be fair to United.”
TOO TRUE.
“Referees just seem to get worse , year after year, and I don’t know what the solution is.”
They should be graded by a “third party” and the really bad ones should be relegated and the better ones in the lower divisions should be promoted. EPL is a huge, multi-zillion pound business but it’s run by amateurs who have their heads in the blazers. What’s more, those who run the game – at both the national and international level – seem to have neither shame nor any sense of “natural justice” (as in the blatant hand ball by TearyHenry which sent France to South Africa and Ireland home with nothing.
For someone – like me – who sometimes watches ice hockey, gridiron football, basketball, and baseball, the quality of officiating and administration in soccer-football is simply atrocious. What to do ? Who knows because when you have people like Blatter – and the blazers at the FA – in charge of the game it seems that any kind of reasonable changes are very, very, very unlikely
Yeah, probably a red…..but I dont there was any malicious intent, he had eyes only for the ball all the time….so a yellow would have been sufficient, but not too many complaints there I suppose…many referees would have sent him off..
But the rest of the decisions were absolutely apalling…we got nothing out of him all game…no free kicks, no nothing. He was just oblivious and dare i say blind to all the niggly and blatant fouls by the villa players.
I think at one point even the commentators Martin Tyler and trevor francis were sympathising with United and having a laugh over the referee when he missed a blatant hand-ball by a villa player around the box (which would have given us a shot at goal in a dangerous area with giggs still on thepitch)even though he was looking directly at the play.
As i said yesterday you cant complain. Just a rush of blood for Nani, feel bad for him only because he was getting in to the game gradually and had made an excellent cross for Giggsy for the leveller.Maybe he won the ball but his feet were above the ground and when you do that you are tempting the refree to send you off. The ref was rubbish though, so many free kicks not given and didnt even bother too caution the villa players when they commited some clearly bookable offences.
Whats the ref age by the way?. looks old enough to be my grandfather. lol
@kel
“I believe if its Rooney you could be complaining like hell.”
i am not in the best mood these days so please stop calling me biased. i don’t hate Nani and if it was Rooney i would have said absolutely the same. but what can i do if you have a strong belief ?
It doesn’t matter if it had malicious intent. nowadays it is a red card offence and i don’t see how it is not a red card. 99% of the time they are sanctioned with red card and it doesn’t matter if it is against us or visa versa.
Definitely red card. Two footed, “jumping” tackle – referee had no choice. For those who think it was yellow card – imagine Carragher doing s’thing like that against Rooney; wouldn’t you scream for red?
And one more thing: referee made huge mistake – but we shouldn’t complain. Carew was clearly fouled by Evans in penalty area; it should have been penalty kick. So this time we were lucky bastards, not they
@ AIG and Corea
Good morning mates….I dont have too many comlaints about the red card as i already pointed out above, but did you see his performance in the rest of the game? Absolutely ludicrously shocking!
@Red Devil
Hi mate. Good afternoon
agree. The ref was shocking. Villa players were commiting fouls without getting booked,the refree didnt even give free kicks.Bown fouled Dunne when he was probably going to go clean through. Nothing given again. One or two bad decisions in a game is understable but this refree was ridiculous.Wonder why SAF said nothing about him?.The standard of refreeing has been pathetic this season especially when United play, so many clear decisions we dont get
the poor ball got a right ol studs up challange
thank god the ball got out of the way when valencias ankle got stood on or it could of been a horrible night for that ball
Red, no doubt. The irony is that having got the long run in the team that he so desperately wanted, he then goes and screws it up for himself. Missing the final in the process.
I can’t believe the poll is 65% in favour of ‘no’. Are you all that blind?
It was a clear red card – if Sir Alex says it’s a red, then it’s a red. It was a little silly of Nani – he will be gutted to miss the Carling Cup final. I hope he plays against Milan and makes up for his mistake.
Valencia did okay when he came on, but Nani created the goal, and seems pretty important to the squad.
On a sidenote, did anyone see the Rafa interview?
Interviewer : “Whas it a handball on the EDGE OF THE BOX at the end of the game?”
Rafa : “Yes, it is a clear penalty. I’ve seen the reply and it is clear.”
What Rafa – I don’t understand – it was outside the box, you’ve seen the replay!?!?!
Morning people. Thankg God the ball was in the way, because I never wanted one of our players the “villain” in an Eduardo situation. But it had to be red. The sad part is that Villa were there for the taking. Even when we were playing with 10. It was Giggsy’s injury that really ended our hopes. He and Rooney were linking up very well.
Anyway, I hope this isn’t a case of Chelsea holding on to their lead for the entire season. Maybe it will be a special occasion when we finally do overtake them, but it has to happen at some point. It’s starting to become depressing when you think about all the times we could have gone top and we didn’t.
It was a 2 footed lunge and I’ve seen those type of challenges resulting in sending offs.
Even Fergie didn’t have much complaints about that decision.
sure, it was a red card. such a tackle is a red nowdays. if it was Petrov to tackle Nani the same way, you all would appeal for the red card. sir Alex also agreed with the red card decision in the post match interview
@Costas
Morning mate.
Agree.We have had our chances. The brum game comes to my mind. Next weekend will be vital too. Chelsea travel to pompey and will beat them . We have a tricky early game at Goodison and going by the way Saha gave Terry a nightmare yesterday, wesley and evans could be in for a tough time.
1-1 at VIlla Park isnt a bad result. No wonder Chelsea were all over everton in the last 10-15 mins after knowing our game had been drawn. We will have it more difficult at Goodison as Everton missed 2 of their best players in Pienaar and Felliani yesterday.
Morning guys.
Brum game was tough and draw was a fair result.
We played with 10 men against Villa, had our chances but it is also a fair result. We played really really good but missed spark in the final third. But what can you ask from the team playing with ten men ? We were unlucky but we had our share of luck in Everton. So don’t play with fire, we are in a good position right now.
@AIG
Will Fellaini and Pienaar return against us? I was hoping that my compatriot Kyrgiakos did us a favor and knocked him out of our tie. We know that Rio won’t play and I don’t see any reason why Vidic will either. So Wes and Jonny have to carry the load and you are right. It will be a tough game for them.
You know what’s the most annoying thing? The fucking FA haven’t given us 1 noon kickoff this whole season and they do it immediately after the trip to Milan. The team will be knackered.
And as far as the Pompey game goes, what do we want out of it? If Pompey manage to hold Chelsea, that could still mean nothing if they go under administration.
@Corea
Hi. Well, we could have always won the game, like we did with Quito last year. Or maybe I am too greedy.
We had a good chane to win while Giggs was still playing. Too bad he got injured at the time he did!
It’s funny, but Birmingham actually gave us a bigger scare when we played with 10 men over there!
@Costas
Felliani is doubtful but pienaar got 2 yellows which led to his Red and hence a one game ban,so he will be back.I think it will be tough for Everton too because play Sporting Lisbon in the 1st Leg of the Europa League the same day we play Milan, but they are at home that day and then also are at home against us. Dont think it will be much of a problem for us. We do get a good 3 day rest and if we beat Everton it will put some pressure on Chelsea. Also we have this weekend off before the Milan game.Not many will want to want to face Saha in this form.Happy for him though. Always liked him
This is the ‘Eduardo Effect’. Ever since that horrible leg break, anyone lunging in two-footed like that is bound to get a red – ball or no ball.
Costas – hi, Fletch was sent off at Brum in the end of the game. Villa had some chances towards the end also. You can’t compare the two games, pal.
We have what we have and we have a good chance to win the Everton game i think. I just hope no one will get a red card. At one point we will get our share of luck away from home.
Sorry Drabik, it wasn’ a “clear red”, its one of those decisions where the ref has a discretion, and Walton clearly thought it was a serious enough tackle to send him off. “If Sir Alex says its a red its a red” is also not entirely correct, need I remind you that SAF has a suspended touchline ban hanging over his head, and at this stage of the campaign he’s not going to risk that being activated with any controversial comments, seeing as the FA and refs have been so eager to fuck us over this season.
@AIG
Thanks for the info. I checked myself. Everton have a similar program with us, but they won’t travel at all. That’s what concerns me more. If the Milan game was at OT, I wouldn’t have minded so much. It just upsets me how the FA remembers to put us in Saturday lunchtime kick offs only when we play in Europe.
Interesting that Everton will play 2 games in 4 days. You have to feel that Louis will not start both.
@Corea
Not comparing the games. Just our opponents’ reaction. At the Brum game, they forced us back, even though we only had 10 minutes left. Last night, I never felt as if Villa will pile that kind of pressure, even tough we played with 10 for an hour.
@Costas
it means we are now in a much better state than we were back then.
Villa side was pathetic though, there is no doubt about it.
@Costas
Welcome mate.Louis surely wont start both.Think he will start against us.It certainly is surprising that we play early on Saturday and then are at Home to West Ham on Tuesday before the Carling Cup final.The fixtures are going to come thick and fast now, we need Rio and Vidic(???) back soon and back to their best, add to that nani misses 3 games.
@Corea
That’s true. Plus, we didn’t lose Fletch this time.
Just checking the program a bit. Chelsea go to Wolves next weekend. I hope they can do what Hull did, but I am not holding my breath. Also, the FA have f’ed over Chelsea too. They play at Milan on Wednesday the 24th and they have a 12:45 kick off against City the following Saturday. At least the FA are consistent…
As far as the Everton game, I really hope we win. In the Premier League era we always win at Villa Park or Goodison park or in both. Last season was the first season we didn’t win at either ground. It surely can’t happen again.
@AIG
Well, now with the forced suspensions, Fergie will shuffle the team around. Nani and Rio starting at Milan and keeping the likes of Wes and Giggs fresh for Everton. I really hope we get an update on Vidic soon. A realistic one.
Oh and I hope Ando’s punishment is over. Can’t go on playing Saturday-Wednesday with just 3 CMs.
Petrov absolutely blew the incident up.He was screaming like he broke his leg or something.
But i’d give a yellow card,looking at the background of the Nani,he’s definitely not malicious!the only thing i’m irritated is that Nani’s gonna miss 3 games when he’s playing well now.hope he starts against milan though.
@Costas
Hope so mate. Did you hear that story about rio and vidic going to some clinic to try and save that career?. wondering whether Vidic’s prolonged absence means that could be true and he is having some problem that is recurring and preventing him from playing more than 2-3 games. The club possibly want to get to the bottom of it and hence arent risking him. Just like we did for rio with his back problem.
@AIG
I did hear that story. And it’s probably true for Rio. I am not sure about Vidic though. If he had gone to that clinic, wouldn’t Fergie have said something? For the last month, all Fergie says is that he will be back for the next game.
yes, pretty stupid from Nani… we could have won with him.
3 games ban then, to think he was in form.
If you go in two footed and off the ground in front of the ref no matter what you will get a red, SAF even said it himself.. I hope its just a part of this learning curve that Nani is on… Hopefully he will learn from this and it will make him a better player from it…..
off topic: Fabregas’s foot was on the line when he handled the ball which is a peno…. nothing better than seeing the dirty thieving scum getting robbed in the 94th minute…. I laughed my hole off for hours at that rewinding it on sky again and again…. anyone have a pictue at the look on st stevie of me’s face when the ref waved play on???
@Long John O’Shea
It’s a tough one, because I thought his hand was in front of the line. Anyway, I was glad they were robbed. Especially when I saw Stevie Me diving and trying to win a free kick just seconds earlier!
@Costas
Exactly.Also when asked before the Arsenal game about wheteher he would play or not SAF said, ‘if he wasnt fit, would i put him on the bench against City?’. it puzzles me because thats 2 weeks ago and yet nothing has been said or he hasnt even been on the bench after that.
@AIG
Sorry, a correction on my part. Before the Arsenal game, Fergie did say that Vidic felt his calf again. But before the Portsmouth game he said that Vidic had been training regulary. It would have helped if they asked him about it after the Portmouth and Villa games.
Costas, Your right that his hand was in front of the line, where his foot was on the line but if your to play to the laws of the game once a part of the player is in the box a peno should be given…. but seeing them robbed was the business…..
@Long John O’Shea
hi mate. Also stevie me’s classic dive earned that freekick. it wasnt a freekick and he went down far too easily to earn it. What better can you expect from Gerrard though.
@Long John O’Shea
Thanks for the info. I didn’t know what the exact rule was. Peno it is then. Poor Rafa. Not.
It was also funny seeing Gerrard and Fabregas trying to outcheat each other.
Could be red, but really in my opinion NO.
He wasn’t two footed, but he was with more than enough force in the ball. Shouldn’t do it, but a red card was too much, even when we sar the others tackles during teh game.
Lads,
I honestly dont think it was a red card concidering tackles like this happening most games, or every other some go un punished and at most get a yellow!
To be fair he did leave the ground but by christ if this is a standard decision we are very lucky to keep Rooney on the pitch, Late on he made a tackle on Agabanawhore with both feet off the ground and both feet forward. Like nani he caught the defender & his left leg was stretched out studds out not contacting the defender. He also was off the ground also! Result was foul no card at all!
In short we are going to be watching games where our players are tackled like this, in exactly the same manor and only a foul given! Im that much certain o fit!
I could take my monthly wage and bet on it and in 1 week or at most 3 weeks time be sitting with my money back and my winnings!
Referees need to Ern Respect! Respect is not free!
That baldy headed Italian got Respect because he was good!
Lads,
Now that I have got over the Disappointment of Nani’s Red & also the missed opportunity to go 2 points clear or 1 point clear whichever!
Didnt the lads do well with 10 men last night!
They were up against a good Villa side! Who I wouldn’t be surprised finished 4th to be honest. We moved the ball around very well, Rooney was on fire, Giggs started to come into the game and was great. My old Pal Carrick (Who I am not fond of!) played very very well! We really looked like a team with 11 playing against 10! We were very unlucky and I’m actually very pleased with the performance level!
I don’t like losing or dropping points or loosing, but to be honest I don’t even mind loosing as long as we put in a performance! The performance is most important to me as I know if were performing we are very unlucky to loose with the quality and team we have!
trevor – hello. any evidence ? 99% of this tackles are punished with red cards. anyway i don’t want to discuss it further. what’s done is done.
Ref was too inconsistent after it and didn’t manage to control the game. but there were some tackles from our players that also went unpunished.
trevor
nice one for the links yesterday
the doctor watched the whole second half in my room funny stuff
Clear red card, he left the ground with studs up and as a result it was inevitable he was walking.
The blatent miss on Valencia was a joke though.
Great performance from the lads.
guys i think Giles Oakley @1:04 has it spot on. fergie is trying not to antagonise the FA, the amount of fucking biased decisions against us after the “unfit alan wiley” incident only goes to show that referees can be swayed, and i think its entirely plausible that fergie is trying to sway it back into our favour.
at the same time, he has chosen a game in which the referee is SO OBVIOUSLY INEPT that he really need not even point it out, more mind games imo. he gets some FA favour, but at the same time everyone can make a pretty good guess as to what he’s up to, and everyone knows what a fucking retard the referee is.
just my two cents..
I think it’s the double standards that really annoy fans. I can accept Nani’s red card, but where was Gallas’ against Bolton? Doesn’t Stevie Me get away with stuff like that? Didn’t Villa get away with that at the end of the game?
Trevor is right. Respect? For what? For whom? For a balding referee who dyes his hair and who made Davie Elleray look top class?
One thing in Nani’s favour, his MAGNIFICENT ball from right wing straight to Giggsy whom Nani had spotted in space at the far post, but none of the Villa players had – gave Giggsy time and space to really whack the ball goalwards and bingo – the equaliser of a defender who couldn’t get his feet out the way. Pity the same cannot be said about Valencia’s crosses which seldom do anything in the box. Rooney will miss Nani because they were just developing an understanding between them. Hope Nani out doesn’t mean lost points, but I feel it will. He has been an axis in our improved performances and goals. Hope Fergie plays the lad against AC Milan.
Corea,
Im going to make it my mission to point out tackles like that from now on that go unpunished!
It´s a red card. and unless there´s nothing wrong with my eyes, I thouth it was the colour of the card the referee produced. SAF had no complaints and thouth it was a clear red card. But c´mon get in! We played fucking amazingly with ten men.
…under moderation my arse! I misspelled my nick…and there we go!
It was a red card! SAF had no complaints. But we did fuckin awesomely with just ten men, against a very good side!
it was a yelllow stevie me gets away with tackles like that all the time n did you see the fucking dive last night so arsenal should have had a free kick n he should have been booked for that n the hand ball was outside the area so that fsw can shut the fuck up. lets make it 4 in a row LUHG
@keano77
Agreed. Although their are inconsistancies with the punishment handed out by officials for this type of tackle I still believe this is red card offence.
No player should go in 2 footed in to a tackle whether he is playing for United or against United. The potential for a career threatening injury is too great as their is no ability to control the tackle in mid air.
It’s a shame for Nani because he was doing so well for United.
I hope this doesn’t mean he has a drop in confidence.
Definitely a home ref – born in the Midlands…. Yellow would have been reasonable. No worries, one point gained on the rent boys, but a shame to lose Nani for 3 matches.
He went in with both feet in the air. Even if he got the ball, he could have caused serious harm to Petrov. Whether it was intentional or not doesn’t even come into the equation at all.
I for one am happy his stupidity was punished severely. He will think twice next time he wants to lunge like that at an opposition player and jeopardise our chances of winning 3 points!
Didnt look like a red from the stands last night (it never does :-p) but watching the replay I can see why a red was given. No malice, he got the ball, but his whole body left the floor. If Stevie GBH had done that we’d be screaming murder.
On another note, we could/should have won the match though. And Villa supporters are shit, couldn’t sing if they’d have had the words in front of them. LUHG

Please tell me this is not true…..those damned bastards cannot have done that…how can they even entertain mortgaging Old Trafford after all the assurances by Gill and Glazers that Old Trafford and Carrington would not be touched…. it says Bloomberg there….man this cannot be happening
red devil
goal .com is highly unreliable they just seem to just write anything that maybe overheard in a pub as a story
this is a good view on nanis red

@GHTT
Don’t mention anything about the Glazers as the financial god’s will start blogging on here with paragraph after paragraph of university thesus.
It’s true Stevie Me would have been screaming murder,
But we can’t base that tackle on whether Stevie Me would have got away with it or not. I mean Mascherano got away with that elbow and Rio didn’t.
Unfortunately it’s just the way it seems to be going this season. I’ll take 10 own goals in lieu of that though!
@ GHTT
I sure hope that is the case…..but the source quoted is Bloomberg mate and the documents seem to be filed at Companies house in the name of JP Morgan Europe
Two names with the highest levels of credibility in the financial world….
yeah….I think that link is really good explanation of the double standards that United have to face upto…If each such tackle got a red, then they would have had to stop the Merseyside derby last week for lack of players on the field…
@ AlphaRS
Lol man…that had me burst out laughing!!
My god….I cant stop laughing…..”Univeristy thesus indeed” hahahahahahahahahaha
@Red Devil
” have a brilliant business model!
You know it’s true mate
United could be bankrupt and these goons will still be claiming “you know who
@red devil and alphaRS
Im big on the green and gold and i think the glazers are raping the club i love just for money, but i think they are doing enough bad without making up storys just to panic people. its like saying we all know what an evil fucker Josef Fritzl was but did you know he never ever tipped his bin man at christmas.
alright ive to go for my operation now ill see you’s all in a few days
luhg
@ GHTT
I was just laughing at the way he said it…thats all
All the best for the operation mate…hope to see you soon…Cheers!
@GHTT
I have probably missed a post of yours mate, cause I didn’t know you were set for an op. All the best. See you soon.
As far as the OT mortgage goes, I am not surprised. Everytime you borrow something, you mortgage something that belongs to you. And that’s what they did. For their sake, I really hope they pay back the bonds.
@ Costas
As far as I know, they had made it quite clear that Old Trafford would not be encumbered. Also this stance was repeated at the time of the bond issue that stadium will not be touched…
Anyways, more clarity is needed as to the nature of the encumbrance, etc or whether this story is completely true or to what extent, etc
As you say, I really hope everything goes well for the Glazer’s sake coz if they fuck around with Old Trafford, there’s gonna be hell to pay…
@Red Devil
I have trouble believing the Glazers, so I didn’t believe them anyway.
Maybe their reassurance that nothing would happen to OT, meant that they would pay back the bonds? Can’t say for sure. It was no secret though that OT and Carrington were in brochure. I said it then and I will say it again. No matter what their intentions are, it’s disgraceful that they are parading assets that were in the club’s possesion long before they came. Even if it’s just a formality and we never reach that point.
However, at the moment I say lets wait and see if someone else reports this. I don’t expect any info from the club. I am want to see if other media outlests will pick up on this.
Costas
You’re probably right….lets wait for the story to develop further…
Anyways…gotta go mate….must catch up on some sleep!
)
Its not easy to work through the day after having slept at 4 am the previous night watching a game (would have been a lot easier if we’d won it though
No. He only lunges with one leg and due to the forward motion is other leg follows through but was no where near making any sort of contact with Petrov, he’s a dramatic twat though so that’s probably what swayed it towards being a red card. Good point to get under the circumstances though.
@Red Devil
Sure pal. Get some rest. You have earned it!
has the fa saw the everton liverpoool game.should had been 8 red cards if nanni s was red i hate fa hope england fail in the world cup
Put it this way: if a good honest Englishman like Steven Starfish or Lionheart JT had made the same tackle, it would have been applauded. When it is a Johnny Foreigner like Nani, who no-one really likes, Walton couldn’t wait to send him off.
What made me chuckle though was after I had finished listening to Key 103′s commentary, in which Mickey Thomas had done a good job in summarising what a good point gained it was for United in difficult circumstances, I switched on Sky Sports News to hear their anchorman hyping up how United had “dropped vital points” in a “CONTROVERSIAL game,” with Nani “seeing red for the SECOND time in his United career” (GASP!)
Nani got the ball and hardly made contact with petrov, but once again its the reaction of other players that gets nani sent off.
But Valencia as always looked dangerous on the r.h.s so not really a big loss, If he can be more consistent with his crossing we have two magnificent players.
I suppose weve got the benefit of replays and slow motion. Nani lunged in studs first AT the ball. He got the ball at the same instant as Petrov. Because the ball stopped suddenly Nanis momentum took one foot over the top and onto/into Petrov. Was it malicious NO. Was it meant to be a foul NO. Did Nani go in with only one thing in mind YES but it wasnt to injur Petrov or even foul him. In real time it looked clumsy but Im just wondering was the punishment right, I mean if someone clearly went in with both sets of studs blazing at Petrovs knee, what would have been the punishment there. I think a yellow and final warning would have been enough.
As for the challenges on Valencia, will the FA bring it up like the Rio case as the ref hasn’t seen it. Because if he had seen it and did nothing then he is a monumental Prick.
They don’t panish the intent, they punish flying tackles with feet off the ground. Why is it so difficult to figure it out ? This tackles are dangerous to the player’s careers.
Ref was awful, he might have been biased but this is a red card. Why someone else didn’t get it in the past it’s another problem. I think i’ve seen all of this kind of tackles punished with red cards, maybe someone will bless us with some other cases.
I don’t know but when i read comments expressing the opposite i get irritated. argh!
And another thing. When i was seeing the replay i felt so sorry for Nani and it almost made me cry. So unfortunate. I hope he didn’t do it because he had started to feel like a star.
why the hell did he do that?! just as he got back into the game, playing well and pulls a stunt like that.
shame he got sent off though because we have no giggs for up to 4 weeks.
Good afternoon all.
Unfortunately, whether Nani meant to come over the top of the ball or not, he left his feet and was reckless in his challenge to the point where he was guilty of serious foul play. I agree with Corea on that count.
That aside, the ref was god awful as he seemed to put his cards (and whistle) away after that. Same with his assistant. The challenge on Valencia near the end was horrible and the AR should be able to assist. Unfortunately that AR must have been the same one who missed the challenge by Marischino on Sunday as he scissored someone from behind.
As to the other posters on here, the ref has just a split moment to evaluate what he saw and come to a decision. He may use the advice of an assistant but it is ultimately his decision and he has to live with it. I hope that he can live with himself as Nani is now gone for 3 important matches.
