More quality obviously but they will never win any competition by taking it to their opponents. As for trophy ceremonies mentioned above I must say in retrospect how strange it was at the drop of a hat that city were allowed to parade through the streets. We can all claim bias in the local authority or the police without quite knowing the truth but what was all that about? I thought there was no chance of such events after what Rangers did.
We really deserved a parade for doing the Champions League and Premier League Double- the greatest achievement in English football since 1999.
The reason that the city parade was given the ok was that compared to the huge police precence needed to cope with around a million celebrating united fans they only needed a scabby old police dog and two hobby bobbies to control city’s piss poor turnout.
Correct me if I am wrong guys, but didn’t both Manchester clubs have a parade of their own last year? City for their first cup in 36 years and us for the 19th title? I remember a bitter coming here and comparing which parade had the biggest attendance.

Zidane, Buffon, Becks, Figo, Ronaldo etc etc are the ones who created the first bubble. How on earth does a goalkeeper go for 52 MILLION POUNDS in 2001 money? Absolute MADNESS. The second transfer bubble was created in 2009 when Real Madrid in the space of days, spent 136 million pounds signing just TWO players. Since then the market has never looked back. 26 million pounds for Rooney was DEFINITELY not overpaying for the lad. He went to the euros and was Top scorer for a while at the age of 18. So he had proved himself on a big stage at least.
At the time we signed Rio, he was one of THE best defenders in world football. The core of a leeds United defence that took leeds united to their first Champions League semifinal. Plus Leeds signed him for 18 million pounds from west ham the previous season. There was NO doubt in my mind that we had to pay at least 30 million pounds for him and I was right. And I think we have gotten EVERY penny of that 30 million AND MORE from Rio’s service to this club.
As long as we get Kagawa I couldn’t give a fuck how “busy” the rest of the summer is for us.

wayne I think there’s always a few going. Juventus rebuilt their midfield by getting Pirlo (worthy of comparison with Xavi, Scholes, Iniesta) for free and Vidal for 10m. Sahin went to Real Madrid for 10m – hasn’t worked out for him but he was possibly the best player in Dortmund and Germany the season before last. I think if we looked at Germany and France we’d find some good, reasonably priced talent. Newcastle have found some bargains. I don’t want to overpraise their players as they have had one good season but for 3-10 million some of them would have improved our squad and we only needed a tiny bit more to win the title.

I can’t disagree with your logic. With the money you and I will make in our lifetime, it’s mind boggling why a player would shrug off 80-100k per week in favor for more money. Unfortunately, it is what football has come down to. And it’s not just about the money. Hazard wouldn’t have gone broke if he accepted our offer. However, it’s about bragging right too. Hazard, like Toure, Silva, Aguero and others, wants to be amongst the highest paid players. It’s good for the image. And as long as players think like that, clubs like Chelsea and City will always have a better shot at them. I don’t remember the exact figures, but Phil Jones didn’t join us due to his loyalty either. We had to raise our offer. The disease is everywhere nowdays.
