Vidic Injury Update Ahead Of Anfield

Nemanja Vidic hasn’t played for Manchester United since the opening day of the season against West Brom.

Jonny Evans, Chris Smalling and Phil Jones have all played their part in defence since, but after playing 90 minutes for Serbia this week, Sir Alex Ferguson is wondering whether Vidic is ready to start against Liverpool tomorrow.

“The big question mark is whether Vidic is ready,” he said. “He has his first game for Serbia on Tuesday. It’s certainly a consideration because he’s such a great competitor. He came in yesterday and felt OK. But the Liverpool game is such an intense, stamina-draining game that you want everyone to be 100 per cent so it might be more down to how he feels himself. Jonny Evans’ form has been absolutely brilliant so I don’t have any real concerns about who I play because they’re all playing particularly well.”

Honestly I think Evans is the most vulnerable at the back. He always seems to let the ball drop, rather than head it away.

  2. Kenobi says:

Hopefully we could have a settled defence soon. Just get the small issue of 3 pts over mid table teams like pool and carry on our fine start to the season

  3. Costas says:

Normally I’d say that he needs match practice, but that’s what the midweek game achieved. Vida has to start imo to give our defence its stability again. Pool will start Stevie Me who’s also been out for a long time. I just don’t know if I would start Rio next to him. They haven’t looked good as a pair this season. I can’t see Vidic playing 3 games this week so maybe he shouldn’t travel to Romania.

  4. giggs12gerrard0 says:

Im not arsed we have Phil Jones he is like a back four just himself

  5. gazzer says:

Hey, they’re debating whether to take roony to the euros now that he’s been banned for 3 games. I say don’t take him – they’re not going to get past the group stage anyway

  6. Samuel - united WE stand says:

Is smalling back to fitness or what? those idiotic press probably never asked

  7. Samuel - united WE stand says:

Giggs12 gerrard 0 – you’d be naive to think jones can hold all that defence by himself, its a team game and you need everyone to pull together, you can only see that when he was at blackburn, despite his quality and determination, they still got ripped apart.

  8. yunus ahmad says:

Our defence against Norwich was vulnerable and lack confidence we need Vida at Anfield

  9. giggs12gerrard0 says:

    @Samuel

I know mate I am just joking in my above comment, Vida and smalling are a must for me to return tomorrow, paddy jones vida smalling for me!

  10. innocent says:

to have vida with jones in defence, liverpool will walk alone tomorrow.

  11. stevenorx says:

I have faith in the wizard. For me the issue is Midfield, not defence…

We have quality at the back…. lets just outscore the bin dippers…..

  12. T4M says:

I’ll keep vida on the bench. We need him for city

    De Gea

    Smalling
    Rio
    Jones
    Evra

    Carrick
    Fletcher
    Anderson

    Young
    Rooney
    Nani

  13. José McG says:

I agree with needin Vida, We need some seniority to curtail Jones’ runs when necessary, Evans’ pace will get shown up if he doesn’t have 2 players covering him. Think Smalling in the centre with Vida would be mint, Jones is more direct for the RB slot and can offer good support for Nani down the Right.

Fingers crossed SAF has all players available to select from.
Big performance from De Gea I believe, I feel it in my Bones.

  14. daemondada says:

    Hi all,
seems y’all forget that carrick can play cb.hell, berba can slot in ‘rolls-royce’ like bside him for an awesome pairing!no way am I gonna let poo off this time round even if I gotta play our entire Academy!0-8+ anywayz!GGMU!!!

  15. dannysoya says:

Come to think of it, i think fergie is right. How about we start vidic on the bench. he is just recovering and throwing him straight into the deep end against suarez is doing him no favours. We should play smalling, Jones, Rio and evra. If things get bad ( hopefully they don’t) then we can bring on vidic.

  16. My Protein Discount Code says:

From a Liverpool point of view I hope Vidic plays : )

  17. parryheid says:

Hope this display by United;s isn’t a sign of thing’s to come.Pretty grim

  18. stevenorx says:

    It’s their cup final…..
Its one more step on the road to our 20th…

  19. parryheid says:

2-1 liverpool now chance to it.

  20. José McG says:

    @T4M
Not being Negative (but jus a little)
I’m jus thinkin of how Carrick, Fletch played when combined for the CL game against Benfica. Is cleverly not fit?? I accept there is the addition of Nani and Young. I feel we Need Hernandez making those runs creating space for Rooney. Both Rooney’s hatricks have came with Hernandez on the field, is this enough to support my call for lil pea to start??? (also accept that Carrick partnered Ando in the centre for 4 of our goals against Bolton,????)

    . De Gea
    Jones, Smalling, Vidic, Evra
    Nani, Cleverly, Ando, Young
    . Rooney
    . Hernandez

Bench, Lindegaard, Evans, Fabio, Fletcher, Park, Welbeck, Valencia,

If cleverly’s not fit, I’m torn between Park and Fletch

  21. King Eric says:

T4M – I would go with that exact line up pal. Knowing Fergie though he may go with Giggsy as he likes experience and cool heads at Anfield.

  22. WillieRedNut says:

Hello lads! The big one is here at last. Suffering from the cold, so not feeling the nerves yet lol. Maybe tomorrow. :)

    My team for the scum:

    DDG

    Jones Rio Vidic Evra

    Nani Fletch Carrick Ando Young

    Rooney

    That can be a 451, or a 433.

  23. King Eric says:

Jose – Yeah but with Ando thrown in there its a decent three man midfield. Fletch has to start. Missed him there the last couple of seasons.

  24. King Eric says:

T4M – Sorry thought you had put Vida in there. We need him tomorrow.

  25. berba is magic says:

cleverley will not play tomorrow ,just read on the man utd website

  26. daemondada says:

Guyz y fret,I remember when Rio just coming back frm a lengthy layoff, walked straight up to saf @ a youth game and said ‘I’m ready’.saf threw him quick into d ‘deep end’:chelski in a CL QFinal!chill!besides, stats (tho they don’t mean squat) say that utd have neva lost 4 away games consecutively to a single adversary in d pl.poo can’t break that record definitely.we ain’t gonna rest on our laurels tho.I trust all operatives selected 4 d mission to deactivate all booby traps @ d minefield of anfield and own them.stay safe.

  27. T4M says:

King eric,I’m just afraid vidic may aggreviate his calf.

  28. WillieRedNut says:

Tom isn’t ready yet according to Fergie. Rafael is training again. That’s great news. Starting to get defenders back. We’ll need everyone now. Non stop football for the next few months.

  29. kanchelskis says:

    @T4M

The Serbian set-up wouldn’t have risked the wrath of Fergie if his calf wasn’t 100% healed.

The concern with Vidic will be sharpness and fitness. Gonna need to be on his game to deal with Suarez.

  30. CedarsDevil says:

Just spent a better part of an hour stuck in traffic with a taxi driver who knows very little about the PL… All I could talk about was United and tomorrow’s match…The guy could not believe how passionate I was when discussing my club… Think we have a new red on our hands!

Come ON UNITED….. This is the ONE

  31. wayne says:

Vidic wouldn’t have been allowed to travel midweek unless he’s fully fit,if he came out of the game with no problems should be ok to go,like some other lads pointed out just a matter of sharpness.Reading the above quote from Sir Alex wouldn’t surprise me to see Evans start, would have no problem with that he’s regained his form and is quality.
It didn’t take me long to despise Suarez slimy cunt and i really want to stick it up King Kennys ass,imo he had alot to do with Roy Hodgson getting fired because the little bastard wanted the job so badly. As far as i can see although the King has spent alot of money don’t see a vast improvement,Utd need to go there and make a statement,King Kenny saying this is just another game, yeah sure it is you little cunt.

  32. Zelh says:

    Vidic has to play.
We got killed last year without him and Rio at the back.

  33. wayne says:

According to the link below Dippers rate their popularity worldwide much higher than it is,71 million fans Utd have 354 mill,City 18mill lol

  34. ididnotzeeit says:

I just can’t see Danny Welbeck not starting this match. The lads in absolute shit hot form and would give Wayneboy a license to roam and pull the strings. Rooney’s already going to be a focal point of this match, what with the England shennanigans and his Scouse family being, well, Scouse. Leaving him isloated as a lone striker just make any sense to me. If what Berba is Magic said is true and that Cleverley won’t feature than we’ll have to make due with another midfield pairing. Anderson and Fletcher get my nod but SAF may start Carrick just for the calming presence that’s so often lost amongst the divided “supporters.”

    De Gea
    Smalling Rio Vidic Evra
    Nani Fletcher Ando Young
    Rooney
    Welbeck

A 4-4-1-1 flourished earlier this season. Sack up, put out our best starting XI and see where the chips fall. Liverpool’s defense is a sad state. Welbeck will have a field day feeding off supply from the flanks and Wazza. All Fletcher and Ando need to do is clog up the center of the pitch and give our defense and wingers time to settle in. With Rio, Vidic, Fletcher and Rooney in the side, there’s plenty of elder statesmen for leadership on the pitch.

Put them to the sword lads! We’re younger, we’re stronger, we’re better in defense and attack. Wash out the midfield with help from Rooney and a result is what we’ll take away.

  35. Costas says:

    @willie

Get well soon mate. I believe that’s the first time ever we’ve agreed on the starting line up. :D

  36. ididnotzeeit says:

Oh, and we’ve also got Giggs, Chicha, Park, Carrick and co ready to come off the bench for a change in style if needed.

God damn our squad’s boss!! :)

  37. CedarsDevil says:

    Willie is ill?

Get well soon, candles being lit for you buddy!

  38. 16Legend says:

Any idea why werent buying any fullbacks… we could easily do with one… the twins are a little lightweight still…

  39. WillieRedNut says:

Costas – Cheers mate. :) I’m hoping Fergie goes with a 3 man midfield. Knowing the manager though, there could be a surprise somewhere….maybe Park, instead of Nani, or Young? ;)

  40. super united from old trafford says:

vidic all day evans frustrate me so much vidic and jonesat the back and just for fucking once can fergie play a pressing game i never see united pressing the opposition

  41. Cyril Sneer says:

  42. WillieRedNut says:

Cedars – Only the cold mate. :)

  43. dazbomber says:

@Ididnotzeeit- I like your team predition , butI would go with Jones instead of Ando.

  44. CedarsDevil says:

    Willie

Still having them candles lit buddy…. We need your voice tomorrow! Suck on them throat pills my friend

  45. WillieRedNut says:

Cedars – I’ll be up for this one pal. I just hope the lads are up for it as well. I’m sure they will be.

  46. denton davey says:

SAF: “Jonny Evans’ form has been absolutely brilliant so I don’t have any real concerns about who I play because they’re all playing particularly well.”

Interesting statement – “Jonny Evans’ form has been absolutely brilliant” If we’re going to read something into this statement then it would suggest that Rio/Jonny will start – Rio is unlikely to travel to Romania and Vidic would get the start there, mid-week. THEN, both Rio and Vidic would be available for the game against ManShitty, a week-Sunday.

I’m wondering about what the impact of the UEFA 3-match ban will have on TheWayneBoy’s “head” – does he really care ? is he disappointed ? I would imagine that SAF is quietly happy that his main-man is now going to be freed from “ingerland duty” and all the headaches – and press rants – surrounding that lost cause.

Since it’s almost impossible to “predict” what SAF will do for any match, it’s foolish to do so BUT- what the hell ! – my guess is that he will confound everyone (as usual) and go 4-4-3 with Young, Welbeck, Nani in the front 3 and Giggs, DarrenFletcherinho, and Michael Carrick behind them. At least that would be the starting line-up with TheWayneBoy and Chicharito and maybe even Dimmy in reserve for the last part of the match if those reinforcements are required.

  47. RedPharoe says:

Just read on TeamTalk that Giggs is looking to extend his contract 1 year with United. Would be great to have him on the team next season aswell…

  48. kanchelskis says:

    @denton davey

Does he care? Are you joking?

Here’s a guy who’s one true love is football, who wants to play to his best ability in the best competitions in the world. And you wonder whether he’ll care that a major international tournament has been – at best – cut in half for him. At worst, passed him by altogether.

  49. pmcelevey says:

Behave yourself with your Carrick-bashing. To answer your question, yes, I’d rather see someone who’s played over 150 league games in our midfield, than someone who’s played 0 games in our midfield, for a trip to Anfield. Crazy old me, eh?

Jones is entirely unproven in the centre of the park for United, and no matter what you think of Carrick, he’s experienced and brings a cool, calm head that we may just need in these surroundings.

That’s not to stay I definitely think he’ll start. I’d be perfectly happy with Ando-Fletcher-Giggs in the middle, but I think Carrick deserves a bit more respect than the suggestion that a 19-year-old centreback can usurp him for one of the biggest games in the season.

  52. bayobuya says:

    The weekend starts here!

  53. Zibbie says:

Jello, willie has had his game face on for 3 days now!!!!
DD, SAF does talk highly of Evans. Jones has a great up side and should be played somewhere. With that said Evans has played well, like a man. He is a youth product and still is only 23. He is not as flashy but the lad can play defense.

  54. King Eric says:

Do you really think Fergie is gonna start Phil Jones in the centre of midfield for the first time at ANFIELD? Is he bollocks. It would be fuckking insane. Not saying he cannot play that role as I have always said he can but not tomorrow, not at Anfield. denton may be right you know. He may go with Danny and bench Rooney. We shall see. Anyway what a predicament when we are discussing possibly leaving Rooney, Hernandez. Berba and Owen out the side for a 20 year old!!! Great squad.

  55. King Eric says:

kanchelskis – Hello mate. Spot on with your last post. Although this time if Suarez skins our defence Carrick must put his foot in. It was bizarre last season , he just seemed to stand right off and not even attempt the tackle. Obviously fearful of giving away a pen but just fucking whack the goofy cunt next time Michael.

  56. Yesred says:

Will be watching the game at work,my boss although Everton fan wants us to smash this verminous lot.

Rooney’s head will be just fine,SAF will have had him under his fatherly wing and given him a precious one to one talk.

  57. Dragonslayer says:

Really hope Vidic’s return will boost our defense considerably. Besides, I hope this will allow us to deal with our defense problem.

  58. Costas says:

I think Sir Alex himself would rather have Carrick play in midfield than Jones in a game like this. You need experience in these games and as far as central midfield is concerned, Carrick has forgotten more about the position than what Jones knows about it.

  59. kanchelskis says:

What’s that RoMers, you want to see a vid of Antonio Valencia hosting some kind of hotel-room Ecuadorian rapping session?

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M01dt1y3KHQ&feature=youtu.be

    Glad to be of service.

  60. Costas says:

Think back to March 23. 2008 or March 21 2010. Much happier memories against the scum. ;)

  61. denton davey says:

kanchelskis @ 15:26: “Does he care? Are you joking?”

No, I’m not kidding. I know that TheWayneBoy just loves to play footie but I wonder if he is as committed to his international career as opposed to a kick-about at Carrington or an EPL match.

Playing for Ingerland is just a kind of fool’s errand – tons of media abuse and mediocre team-mates. I seem to remember TheGreatKeane-o saying that TheGingerNinja played better at UTD than for Ingerland because he was surrounded by better players.

So, I’m wondering if TheWayneBoy might not be as fully committed to the Ingerland-cause as he “should be”. When he plays for UTD there’s a lot at stake, when he plays for Ingerland there’s usually only a bollocking from the media when TheThreeLions fall short of their ridiculously-inflated expectations.

  62. King Eric says:

Costas – Hello mate. You line thief!!! Thats mine. “He has forgotten more than ……………..”. Only joking my friend.

  63. denton davey says:

Gotta love the Ingerlish media. Barney Ronay in the Guardian Online is again bigging-up StevieGBH – “a natural replacement” for the TheWayneBoy as the “schemer”, no less ! (sorry I’ve just got a new computer and haven’t yet figured out how to do “links” to the original article. My daughter should be home soon – maybe she can teach an old dog a new trick.)

  64. King Eric says:

denton – Ha. A schemer? Fucking idiot. That Romanian hair cut cunt is finished.

  65. King Eric says:

Probably just put the kiss of death on it now! Me and my big fucking mouth.

  66. Devil310 says:

Well done boss….Boosting Evans confidence in case he gets the nod?

  67. Costas says:

    @King Eric

Hi mate. Heh, I definitely stole that line, but I don’t remember stealing it from you. There’s also someone else I know that says it.
