Vidic: Rio and I Know All About Each Other

Nemanja Vidic has today spoken about his brilliant partnership with Rio Ferdinand after the pair have had a few games with each other following their injury ravaged season.

“We understand each other,” said Vidic. “We know all about each other. He knows how I will react in certain situations and it is the same the other way round. I know there is this feeling that I get all the knocks and Rio has the ball. But we both do both things and we can both be aggressive. I don’t think my job is hard and his is easy.”

Vidic admits it will take a team effort for United to achieve all of their targets this season.

“Communication between us all has been built up over a long time,” he continued. “It is nice when you have an understanding. We know what each other is going to do.”

    just hope rio doest ‘know’ that you might be leaving..your total body laungauge has been different since we won the champions leauge vida..you have said the right things (at times) and have been caught out on the pitch..dont get me wrong he is imo on his day the best centre half in the world but since we won in moscow he has not been at his best..i dont think he will last the summer….

  2. Costas says:

    Glad to have our twin towers back! No more injuries now you two!

  3. Fze123 says:

    We will win the league if they stay fit for the remainder of the season.

  4. eddieTheRed says:

    If we can keep these two together on the pitch until the end of the season we will have a great chance of winning a treble – defence has been our Achilles heel all season. If we can get one last run out of them before Fergie rejigs the defence this summer then I for one, will be truly grateful!

  5. Jandsdad says:

    Good to have they two of them together again.
    The confidence flows through the team when we have a solid back line.
    The Reds go marching on on on

    Those two are just UNITED.
    Class pair made in England and Serbia, and communism is dead! lol

  8. Costas says:

    @Ulster Red

    These two are safe! Our excellent medical team will take care of that.

    Oh wait…

    haha good humour my friend..but on a serious note, i dont have that special feeling anymore with vida, before moscow he was imense -what made the player he is, after moscow he hasnt been nowhere near the form…i might be the only one concerned but i dont think he will be a united player next year

  11. Irfan87 says:

    Defence Achilles Heel, nw correct me if im wrong but haven’t we conceded the LEAST goals in the Prem atm.

    see you On Sunday.

  14. Costas says:

    @redscot

    No doubt. The new Bruce and Pally. Just one of these two is Serbian. :D

    @Ulster Red

    Vidic has had a stop start season and he hasn’t reached the standards that he set for himself last season. Apart from the Liverpool game where he continued his awful performances! By Moscow you mean the game we played over there this season? Not the final? I do agree that that’s when his form as well as his fitness started deteriorating.

    To quote one of our dear friends, only God knows. Personally, I still believe that it’s all about getting a new contract with an increased salary. Once that happens, I think we won’t get any weird vibes out of Vidic. I guess the question is what the club and Fergie want. When he was injured in January and February I also wondered if he would be here next season. But he has looked committed ad focused in the last two games. I hope he stays, but I don’t feel certain that he will.

    @ Irfan87

    Point taken, but I contend that if we’d had the dynamic duo all season we’d probably have a substantial lead in EPL by now, certainly more than 1 point.

  16. denton davey says:

    Yep, only God and Mrs Vidic know for sure.

    BUT, in the meanwhile, there’s still some business to complete.

    Having the first-choice central pairing, backed up by the immense Edwin, is a good recipe for building-on-a-strong-foundation.

    When these three play, it seems to send a spark of confidence through the whole team; the midfield is less tentative (although that may be because Michael Carrick wasn’t on the pitch the other night) and the forwards get better service/support from the midfield.

    And – hey presto – TheLads are a juggernaut.

  17. Costas says:

    @Irfan87

    Actually Villa have the meanest defence right now with 21 goals. We have 24. The problem is that we have conceded the same amount of goals in 29 games than we did the whole of last season. And in the 07-08 Pr.League campaign we conceded 22 the entire season. It has been costly unfortunately. The games at Fulham and Birmingham would have been completely different if at least one of these two played.

    Vida, Rio, Smalling and Evans thats 4 very good CH for next season, the present and the future.

    im refereing to ‘that’ final mate..he just doesnt seem the formidable defender he once was, the best in europe. with SAF signing smalling i think next season will be between rio jonny smalling and wesley for the first chicoe back two..i see no other reason for fergie spending that much on a defender unless he was going to be a big part of next season

  21. Costas says:

    @Ulster Red

    Oh ok. Just wanted to clear that up. I have to disagree there. There were times last season(especially during those 14 consecutive clean sheets) where he carried our defence. He became more crucial than Rio. And then the United-Liverpool game happened and that’s when he lost his edge. To this day, I can’t say for sure if the Vidic we got before that 4-1 defeat can resurface.

    Smalling is brought in as a long term investement. I don’t know whether Vidic has to be sold or not. But if he has, I would prefer it, if he left at the end of next season. We have to give Smallving a full season at OT to settle down. Also, Evans needs another season as back up before he starts growing in stature.

  22. arijc says:

    For next season, watch out for Cathcart.

  23. redscot says:

    @irfan good point and there Goal keepers, we have EV* then fuck me pink ! and it aint happening On On On.Fabiansky or All Alluminate.We could sign hilarity, in a swap deal for Ben, yeah right.We are more equiped to deal with this.
    Buddie just Shout like fuck at yer TV on Sunday. ITS Gonna be a riot

  24. Ulster Red says:

    Costas
    i hear you mate..to be true your right in that 14 game run..maybe im being harsh and judging him on the howler he had against the dippers as it hurt so much..roll on next sunday pal :)

  25. redscot says:

    one Irfan is more astute than most of US. Well played m8, i never looked at the goalkeeper situation.

  26. Costas says:

    @Ulster Red

    Yeah, no doubt. That performance was a black hole in his campaign. And like you, I hope that next weekend his luck against the dippers finally changes.

    But when I look back at last season, I always feel that Vidic’s biggest mistake was allowing Eto to get past him. He might have been awful for an entire game against the dippers, but in the end it counted for nothing. However, that goal by Eto changed the entire complexity of the final. Although to be completely fair, Vidic’s lack of focus at that moment was the second crucial mistake in that goal. The first one started at the half way line with Anderson watching Iniesta breeze past him.

    dont remind us of rome, like a burning hole in my life :( but again your right regarding vida, i hope he proves me wrong and stays for years to come and become a true legend, as we know once you leave united the only way is down…heading on now my friend but ill catch up next week, hopefully after 3 points on sunday :) goodnight

  28. Costas says:

    @Ulster Red

    Sorry for scratching the old wound. I don’t know why, but I have thought about that game a lot today…

    Anyway, have a goodnight. See you after we get our revenge against Fulham. Hopefully. :D

  29. King Eric says:

    ulster red – Not sure I agree about Vidic. I was very sceptical earlier I admit but could he REALLY just have had an injury after all and there was nothing suspicious? Not quite sure but I must say when he has come back United at the back look a hundred times better mate. He wins EVERY SINGLE header and strikers fear him. He rattles them in the first 15 minutes or so and it puts them off their game then. An absolute rock and not easy to replace. We need to keep him.

  30. King Eric says:

    denton – Just can’t resist a dig at Carrick can you? And you know I will bite mate!!

  31. King Eric says:

    Costas – Oh come on. Vidic is allowed a bad game and it was last March for heavens sake and it doesn’t mean all of a sudden he is a different player. He has had some exceptional games since the dippers defeat. I know what you are trying to say though mate.

  32. King Eric says:

    This is what United are all about. Come on lads. Four in a row and number 19:

    http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/football/premier_league/manchester_united/article7060308.ece

  33. Costas says:

    @King Eric

    Maybe it was a general problem with our defence, but after the Liverpool game, Vidic didn’t look as assured as he did before that. The team as a whole needed about 4-5 games until we got our confidence back. Of course Vida has had good games after that. And I feel that the MIlan game was probably his best performance this season.

    I am not critisizing him for one bad game. Lord knows, if someone deserved to have an off say last year, it was him.

  34. Linvoy says:

    Vida is a much better player when he has Rio next to him! Rio brings out best in Vidic definately! Thought Rio in particular was outstanding against Milan! Let’s hope they can both stay fit!

  35. Rick says:

    Please stay Vida it will be worse seeing you go than Ron. You are our rock and the fans favourite

  36. Costas says:

    @King Eric

    Great article. Once we got title number 17 in 2008, I started wondering what it would take for the lads to show the same hunger over the next 2-3 years. And this is it. It’s not just about a title anymore. It’s about making history. Here’s hoping!

    Goodnight from me.

  37. Dimitar Berbatov is King says:

    Well, I hope the lads can hammer Fulham for what they did to us earlier in the season. That 3-0 defeat had me a sad panda. That’s really 3 points lost.

  38. TonyBee says:

    off topic….message to GHTT and Little Em….
    have a great day together at OT !!!!

  39. aig alex is god says:

    Vidic is the key here. He makes the defence looks very solid. Rios level has gone down and injuries are taking his toll on him. The key is in keeping vidic fit. rios absence wont affect us much because he isnt the same player he was 2 years ago.Would like to see Evans and vidic given more games in the coming years. Evans looks very comfortable and composed with vidic

  40. Ulster Red says:

    king eric
    alirte mate, dont get me wrong with vida we are a stronger side no doubt, heres hoping the two stay fit and help deliver the 19th..also to be the first side to make 3 succsesive champions leauge finals would be amazing, but 4 in a row first please!

  41. Corea says:

    Ulster Red – 4 in a row is higher priority, no doubt about it.
    We can win CL next year, but we had better take the chance to make history when it comes along.

  42. Ulster Red says:

    corea
    certainly, would like to have both, why not? we are in inform team throught europe at the minute

  43. Corea says:

    Ulster Red – i am more reserved. But after the defeat to Leeds when everyone here was distraught i said that this early exist might prove to be beneficial to our chances of winning everything that was left.
    I still hope so but tight race in the premiership won’t help, that’s for sure.
    But when you look at the teams left in the CL, Barca is not at their best, Arsenal, Chelsea we all know about, Real out, Bayern not bothered, Lyon who? We have our chances. It depends.
    No Ando, no Hargo, no Owen. Rio and Vida fit ? Rooney fit ? We can’t know for sure.

  44. Ulster Red says:

    corea
    it hink i remember you saying something along them lines after the leedscum game, it give us a lighter schedule plus a kixk up the arse for the players involved as they know that would have hurt the fans alot..still does. i still think barca have another gear to get to and when they find it i feel if we avoid them in the 1/4 and semis it should be a repeat of last years final, just with a different outcome ;)

  45. Corea says:

    Ulster Red – agree on Barca, i was just afraid to express it. ;)
    But you might realize that winning the CL once is one thing, winning it a year later is another. And it is there to see. The attitude of player changes and they don’t have Fergie the motivator :-P

  46. Ulster Red says:

    corea
    well i think pep would be quite a good motivator, only time will tell this season though…still no fergie though :) we just have to take it game by game now, i reckon we will lose top spot today and should regain it tomorrow, i reckon that fergie might rest wayne and have him on the bench for tomorrow, thinking about the knock he had and the dippers next sunday
