Vidic: United Made Me Who I Am So I’m Not Leaving

Nemanja Vidic’s agent and Sir Alex Ferguson said the player wasn’t going anywhere this week. Now Vidic has spoken out.

“I have never had a conflict of any kind with Sir Alex Ferguson and rife speculation that I want to leave United is completely untrue,” Vidic said. “I have a contract until the summer of 2012 and I have every intention of seeing it through to the very last day. United have made me the player I am today and there is no substance whatsoever in rumours that I have been looking for a move away to either Real Madrid or AC Milan.”

    It’s nice to hear

    Ground hog day.

  3. Long John O'Shea says:

sorry but ill only believe he is staying when i see he in a united shirt after 01/09/2010

  4. MUFCUM1 says:

Really hope it´s true. Not convinced though.

  5. Red Devil says:

Too much talking from him and his agent……Ronaldo saga all over again except for the “God only knows…..and its polemic” part ;)

  6. Fze123 says:

I will only believe him when I see him playing on the pitch. United built many players in the past too, but that didn’t stop them for leaving to another club when they became a well known recognized talent.

  7. spencer says:

nice to hear but whatever happens in the summer, commitment on the pitch please. i want to see him playing again especially in the big games where he is needed

  8. keegan4england says:

Why would united keep him if he doesnt sign a new contract? I’d rather cash in on him then lose him on a free. Out with the old and in with the new. Kjaer looks class, Evans is growing all the time, Rio isnt finished by any means and Smalling is the future. If Vidic and his wife want to leave, then so be it. We dont want half hearted efforts.

  9. sprite says:

If he stays I hope he signs a contract extention.. I would rather see us get +£20m for him in the summer, and get a proper long term replacement, than see him leave in 2012 when his contract is out..

  10. Muggaz says:

yeah it’s a tough one – it’s still a long time till 2012, but if his heart isn’t in it, it would be better to cash in I think – I love the monster, he is totally imense, but we have shown this season that he isn’t the be all and end all of our defense.

As long as he is wearing that United shirt, I will support him!

  11. Costas says:

An interesting point is brought up here. Vidic has been a rock for our defence in the past and he still has more in hin than Rio. So, shouldn’t we offer a contract extension?

  12. North Stand Tier 2 says:

He’s obviously an immense player for us and was awesome over the last two seasons. This year though his injuries have become a pain in the arse, everytime he comes back he looks shaky, and inevitably get injured again. If we can cash in for £25m or so, am I the only one that thinks that it wouldnt be bad business? Evans is ever improving (despite poor performance in Milan), and Smalling is coming in for £10m, so he must be expected to play a bit. Maybe we will have enough cover.

The sticking point is if that £25m is invested into buying a new creative midfielder and a striker to play up top with Wazza. It’s quite clear that Berbatov’s Utd career is waning into insignificance, and Owen’s will never get started (rightly so cos he’s shit and a scouse bastard!!)

  13. vivek says:

it was good to hear from the player himself about his future……………but the thing i would have loved to hear is his returning date…….

  14. Muggaz says:

    @ North Stand Tier 2

I bet you weren’t saying that when he scored against City in the derby… Have a bit more respect mate.

  15. alpha_rs says:

    @North Stand Tier 2
Would be happier to sell Vidic if we kept hold of Pique.
So I think SAF’s hands are tied even if he did wanna let him go?
He isn’t saying he will sign an extension to his contract though atleast he saying his is staying until the last day of that contract now.

  16. willierednut says:

If vida does go then bruno alves wud be a good replacement.

  17. Superhans says:

We should offer him a new longer contract. He is a great defender. The kind that the strikes have nightmares about the night before the match. (maybe Torres excluded ;@)

Some report in the papers said that he is “only” on 50.000 a week. compared to Rio that is peanuts.

  18. roadkill4u says:

    Good morning all.

    Yawn…..

As Yogi Berra said, “Deja vu all over again.”

I believe that once speculation starts, it takes on a life of it’s own as there is a hint of truth in what they are saying and it snowballs until it becomes fact. Comes a point that if a player wants to leave or is not healthy enough to play each and every match, let him move on, collect some cash and buy a replacement or some cover elsewhere on the pitch. Seems that they already have cover in Evans and Smalling ( and Brown and O’Shea and Carrick ;-) ), so if he leaves get a creative middie and win some more titles.

Oh and how about telling us when you are going to play again? That is what would be really newsworthy!

  19. Adopted Scouser 10 says:

If Vidic wants to leave, let him leave. After all,we survived after Ronaldo loss

  20. mancunianforever says:

To be honest, WHAT A RELIEF. Hahaha.

  21. james f says:

At least he said nothing like “god only knows” and the other rubbish that CR kept repeating.

  22. letranger0 says:

So he’s just told us that he’s going to Barcelona since it’s not Madrid or Milan.

    j/k, good man

  23. Gudjohnsen says:

Shouldn’t we give him a contract extension then? Competition for a central defense role is going to be really tough.

Central defenders: Rio, Vidic, Evans, Brown, Smalling, O’Shea

Perhaps O’Shea and Brown will mainly be used in the right back position since Gary Neville must retire after this season.

  24. Red till i die says:

if hes willing to sign a contract extension at some point next season then it will be good to have him around for another 4-5 years. Last thing we want is to let him get into the final season of his current deal without the extension in place, that would just be bad business.

  25. North Stand,Tier 3,Back Row says:

Get off his back, if he says he’s gonna stay, thats good enough for me. Not every player flirts out loud in the media looking for a move like Ronaldo did (who did always said he wanted to play for Madrid – Vidic isnt at that).
Vidic deserves a bit of respect here, fuck me he has put his head on the line for us countless times, and was part of the best centre back pairing in the world last season. If he’s injured, he’s injured, why would he rather sit on his hole instead of playing – especially if he was looking for a move away, he’d be even more inclined to play and put himself in the shop window.
He deserves a bit of respect here, cause he’s done or said nothing wrong.
If he says he’ll stay for at least the next 2 seasons, thats great news. If all our center backs were fit at the moment, Vidic would be a certainty to start.
Less of the negativity, and say nothing til you hear more.

  26. Aidan Casserly says:

Let’s think about this for say … 2 seconds … he had about 8 weeks to release this statement … he’s going if not before 2012 then just as the clock clicks 12! Thanks for a few good years Vidic … you’re a great player but no one is bigger then the team …

  27. Fze123 says:

@ North Stand,Tier 3,Back Row, great post and I fully agree. He is still our player afterall; even though his injuries and mysterious pull outs of the starting lineups have been infuriating to say the least, we should still show some respect. His injury may have knocked his confidence a bit and he doesn’t ‘feel’ fully fit to play; or he maybe doesn’t ‘feel’ like playing at all and wants to keep himself fresh to be sold in the summer. Whatever it is, we fans don’t know the whole truth.

We will only find out if he really is staying if he does play in the second leg of the CL. Fergie has clearly seen how much we missed the presence of Vidic at the back on Tuesday, and he should be fit by then. However if he doesn’t play in that game then he will be gone at the end of the season.

  28. Fred says:

“I have a contract until the summer of 2012 and I have every intention of seeing it through to the very last day.”

So he wants to leave on a Bosman and pocket a huge contract and signing-on fee. ;-)

  29. RedArmy_7 says:

    spot on fred!!

  30. lawman10 says:

he is talking a load of bollocks!!!
why does he not say that he wants a new contract that will end his time at united.
    why???? because he wants away.
no man bigger then the club we will all still be there when he hangs his boots up for good ( now thats loyalty )

  31. Chep says:

I trust Vida. on the other hand Ronaldo was speaking the same way. nevertheless, I would like to see Rio, Vida, Evans and Smalling as our strong center backs team. eventually Brown, but he will be more versatile on right etc.

  32. North Stand,Tier 3,Back Row says:

Sir Alex is no mug, he’s the one dealing with Vidic daily, and he knows the repercussions if Vidic goes for free in two years. He’s seen all the tricks in the book, and knows what agents are like. I’m sure he’ll try tie Vidic down to a long term contract, and if he feels that Vidic is holding back and is up to something, Fergie will weigh up the dangers between letting Vidic leave for cheaper next summer, or cashing in on him now, and do whats best for the squad and the club.
The up side of cashing in now is obviously the extra cash, the down side is that he loses one of the best center backs in Europe, and it weakens our squad – Smalling is completely untested, Evans is a little inexperienced still (Milan away being a good example), Rio is Rio (world class footballer on his game, but absent minded at times and also very injury prone), and O’Shea and Wes are good cover at best.
Anyway, like I said, Fergie is no clown, so until he comes out and says that Vidic is up to something, I’ll take Vidic on face value and accept that he is injured, and that he wants to stay at Old Trafford.
And fuck it, we got him on the cheap in the first place, worst case scenario if we lose him for free in two years, he’ll still go down as one of Fergies best buys, we dont lose out on the deal (which will probably happen with Berbatov, and potentially Anderson or Nani).
My point being we’ll have a much better chance of retaining the League and winning back the European Cup with Vidic playing. Dont kid yourselves, Nemanja Vidic type players do not grow on trees – he’s one of the best in the world at what he does, the longer we can keep him, the better.

  33. Fred says:

We won’t really lose him on a free, I was joking. The Glazier gimps would never allow that. In fact, there is a theory that the club have decided to cash in on Vidic and are doing a PR job to make Vida look like the bad guy. It has been suggested that this is what really went on with the Tevez fiasco…

  34. Sir Ryan Giggs says:

    @North Stand,Tier 3,Back Row:
Spot on mate. The lad is total quality and he has always told the press he wants to stay unlike the wanker ronaldo. This season has shown what an effect he has on our team. When he plays we look calmer and more relaxed as compared to Evans( who is a star for the future) and Brown. We should show a lot more respect to him as he is one if not the best center back in the world ( alongside Rio).

  35. King Eric says:

lawman – Because he may not want to END his career at United. I have had my doubts but agree with North Stand, as long as he plays for us we need to support him. I said myself the other day that if he was looking to go he would want to stay match fit and not sit on the bench for 3 months. Time will tell.

  36. King Eric says:

Fred – Oh come on man. Conspiracy theory at best. Do you really think Vidic would not come out and say summat if he was being mugged off?

  37. warwick says:

If Vidic does go at the end of the season, it’s beginning to make Utd look like a feeder club!

  38. parryheid says:

Empty him hes unlikely to kick a ball for us this season. There will be another one along in a minute.

  39. Fred says:

Not to me it isn’t. Jog on.

  40. Adam says:

    SELL HIM

  41. 0161-Jon says:

they should test him with a contract extension offer, then see where his loyalties lie. If he ends up leaving… we got wesley, we got wesley, we got wesley brown boh!

  42. Xyth says:

At this stage last year, Ronaldo was also saying that he was happy at United and blah blah blah, when he knew all along that he was going to the fascist club in the summer.

Vidic should prove us all wrong by signing an extension to his contract if and when he is offered one. Until then I will take his words with a pinch of salt.

  43. bchilds says:

Hmm, I’m not sure what to believe. Sir Alex’s press conference when he was talking about Vidic not making the journey to Milan sounded ominous, he wasn’t pleased one bit.

  44. Costas says:

Today there was a second story about Vidic that made the press:

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/leagues/premierleague/manutd/7258295/Manchester-United-accused-of-keeping-Serbia-FA-in-the-dark-over-Nemanja-Vidic-injury.html

There’s more to this story than meets the eye. It will be interesting to hear SAF tomorrow and if Vidic is ready for Everton.

  45. King Eric says:

Fred – I assume you were telling me to “jog on” Danny Dyer style. The theory is silly mate. The Glazers have had fuck all to do with our players and now you suggest that Fergie is letting them make one of his favourite players become a scape goat. Whatever next.

Costas – It certainly will be interesting. Very strange.

  46. vozi edward Yugulle says:

footballers have uttered such statements countless times. so until he follows through with it, i will not believe him.

  47. Gandalf says:

I was gonna buy a Vidic shirt this year… but the speculation has left me feeling sour. I absolutely loved Vida’s performance last few years…and he showed great commitment to us. Now, I’m not so sure, lets see where he is next year and if he does sign a contract extension or not!
I’d love for him stay, but if he wants to go, lets get a massive fee for him. We don’t want players who don’t want to play for us or ‘respect the shirt’ Evra style.
    God bless Paddy Evra.

  48. Fred says:

@King Eric – I wasn’t telling you to jog on, I was talking to the numpty who said we were becoming a feeder club.

  49. Henke17 says:

ok i’m a bit tired of this. nowhere ever have i ever read any substance to absolutely any claims that Vidic wants to leave. all i have ever read over and over an over is Vidic talking about how it’s nonsense and he wants to stay. why is it that fans get wrapped up in a load of crap the press talk about transfer rumours and get on the back of the player.

if Vidic says he wants to stay, i believe him not the shitty ABU press!!!

    VIVA LA VIDA!!!!!

  50. King Eric says:

Fred – My apologies mate. I feel a bit of a cunt now! I thought because I had said “mugged off” you were telling me to “jog on” Dyer style!

  51. King Eric says:

Costas – Not too sure there IS owt in that Vidic and Serbia story mate. Did you see the last line?

Serbia coach Raddy Antic claims that Vidic is determined not to jeopardise his fitness by rushing back into action.

Antic said: “It is only a matter of time before he will be in top shape. He told me that he wants to help the club, but that he does not want to make his injury worse.”

  52. Fred says:

Who dares to bet me that Vidic will be a United player next season?

  53. King Eric says:

Fred – No I won’t bet Fred. I honestly do think he will go but it may just be me. I was one of those that thought Ronaldo would stay as I thought his Nike sponsorship may be a stumbling block. How wrong I was. Anyway more quotes from Vidic :

‘I can’t wait to get back on the pitch and although I’ve had a long layoff, I feel strong and fit again,’ he said.

‘I think I will return to action very quickly and hopefully I will be back to my best as soon as I am picked in the starting line-up again.

‘We got a great result at Milan but we have to raise our game for the return leg and I am sure we can.’

    reckon he will make Goodison?

  54. redscot says:

@ Fred I will, if you go to a Zoo u See Animals if you get a Ticket, he is a cultured fitbae player. Put’s his head on the line as said several times on this Blog, ( youngster).SAF will decide. Easy as.
He has managed this foookkin fantastic Club through some stormy waters .
Guess where my faith lies, right now in SAF and Wayne. And the clubs Philosophy of youth and gearing.

  55. Anon says:

To be honest, I can’t believe some of the fans on here.
It’s a problem if the players doesn’t say anything, and apparently it’s not enough for him to say something either!
How much more clear can that statement be?
He is a world class defender, and CBs can perform well well into their thirties, so I am simply aghast that some of the people on here are willing to ship him off!
    Really?
    And then what?
World class players aren’t dime a dozen, and those of you here who are taking our players for granted need a wake up call. \
Fergie ain’t gonna be around forever, and eventually we will have a new manager, who may or may not have an eye for great talent. And to prepare for that we need all the experienced players to remain in house so they can pass on their experience to the likes of Evans Jr, Brown Jr and Pogba.
Vidic is class, probably the best CB in the world. To even think of selling him shows short-sightedness.
Selling him would not guarantee re-investment in the team anyway, as we have witnessed with the 80 mil Ronnie got us. So please WAKE UP!

  56. pelz says:

really hoping vidic is not leaving OT. definietly the best CB…no doubt and it will be a great lost for United.

    @Anon : agree with you mate…

  57. lucasthebest says:

    New Contract Please!!!

here we go again! Rio and Evan not paring in right mode.. can lose Vida though.. Renew the contract with big bulk of money… then we will be in peace :)
