Nemanja Vidic has sung the praises of team mate Wayne Rooney, claiming that he is tougher to play against than Cristiano Ronaldo.
“If there was ever one player we had to keep hold of then it was Wayne and not Cristiano Ronaldo,” said Vidic. “I am not taking anything away from Ronaldo but Wayne is the toughest player to play against. I think Vida is great at defending the area but he is not quite up to the task of man to man marking the best attackers in the world.That said I don’t think there is a defender in the world who can do both jobs. To be able to be such a brilliant defensive force in the box he needs to be big, tall and strong and the trade off is he can’t physically be as quick as some strikers. He’ll win the ball most of the time, but not all the time, against a fast striker and he’ll deflect anything at all that comes into the box from almost any angle, for me that is a world class defender, anything more than that would be a superhero.

In all fairness from a neutral and unbiased point of view i will say he is amongst the top 3 best in the world along with Carles Puyol and Gerard Pique. Vida is commanding in the air and can match anyone physically but when it comes to pace and defending on the ground vida is found wanting at times but then every defender makes mistakes. When fit, he is a class act, no doubt about.
As for the Rooney-Ronaldo thing, in all fairness i would love to have both of them of them but since Ronaldo is not with us and wont come back in the near future there is no point talking about it. Rooney-Ronaldo was a partnership made in heaven, the 2 of them enjoyed playing along with each other and have utmost respect for each other. I loved both of them and continue to do so although for obvious reasons i Like Rooney more. Ronaldo is and will probably be the most talented player to ever have played in the premier League, a player who comes once in every 10 years and the premiership is certainly a poorer place without him but we have to move on.

Vidic does have problems with pace as much as any other defender in the world . There are very few fast defenders in the world . Obviously Torres , Eto’o , Rooney , Ronaldo are faster than Vidic , Terry , Pique etc. He kept Torres in his pocket for all the games he’s played against him except the thrashing at Old Trafford . Ferdinand is pretty fast for a defender . If you carefully watch the Torres goal at Anfield this season , it was not Torres’s pace that outdid him , he kept up with Torres , it was Torres’s strength and Vandy didn’t do much to help Rio .

I do not think Vida is the best in the world but I love him and think he is the right kind of center back for United. I do think if he can get a run of games this season the real Vida will be back, have a summer off, and be fit raring to go next season. As some of you pointed out United are a different team with Vida in the back and play much more confident going forward. He and Evans is my preferred center backs at this point with Brown and Evra on the flanks. I love Raf Da Silva but he needs to grow more in his game before he should be our starter.

I was checking through the stats(again) today. I realised that Anderson has featured in 6 of our 7 defeats. I like Ando a lot maybe he is not as commanding as he can be? I remember him in the 07-08 season and thinking that it’s hard to lose with him in the side. For the record, I thought he was one of our better players yesterday.
Yea Costa but stats do not always reflect work ethic and how one player played. That stat could be misleading. I will say when he has played he has not impressed in this season but I think he was very good yesterday and has been better as of late. I like Anderson a lot and he looks ready to return to good form. The problem is he has Fletcher, Carrick, and Scholes to compete with. I hope he gets in because he is one of my favorite players to watch when he is playing well. He works as hard as Fletcher (in my opinion) and is good on the ball. Would like him to score more but you can’t always have it all and when he is on he is a pleasure to watch.
anderson is a young player who i hope will be patient to learn from the others and from fergie on how to get better. incredible talent and attitude. he just needs time and building up his confidence. hopefully he takes the same route as fletcher in developing.

agreed; Anderson works best with Fletcherinho – they both harry and harrass the opposition, winning the ball. It’s just amazing to watch Anderson deal with bigger players – he gets his fat arse into gear and just shoves them off the ball. When he was signed, we were led to believe that he was going to be the dog’s bollocks as an attacker but, so far, he’s actually been better as a defensive midfielder. He’s played in a lot of big games for UTD but he is still just 21/22 so, for a midfielder, he is still learning the game. The talent is there and the suggestion that he – like Fletcherinho – might take a while to bring all the parts of his game into synchronicity seems quite likely to me.
About Nemanja Vidic – there has been a tendency among Reds to over-rate him; he’s a very, very good player but he’s not UTD’s best central defender. When Rio is healthy, he is a fantastic player. Vidic complements him very well but when Jonny Evans (or Wesley Brown or John O’Shea) is the replacement for Rio, there is a distinct step down in individual quality as well as in the understanding of the central pairing.

King Eric – it has been a position fergie has never sorted, yes I dont mind RB position being rotated because any decent player can fill in at RB. but giggs seems to be the one fergie plays there when he is fit even at 36. we have had richerdson nani park even evra, but no one has made that position their own. obertan is to RAW to be a reguler, nani seems to have slipt right off the rader, and giggs cant go on for ever.
