Vidic: Why Not Enjoy The Limelight That Comes With Player Of The Year Speculation?

Nemanja Vidic has been brilliant this season, scoring goals as well as proving a strong force in defence. He has played his part in United’s brilliant defensive record this season and his contribution has been recognised by the fans and media alike.

Vidic has today claimed he enjoys being centre of attention as he has worked hard to play at the level he does.

“Why not enjoy the limelight?” said Vidic. “You play football to do the best you can and try to improve yourself in every game and training session. The aim is to do well and get the team flying high.”

It is Vidic’s physical approach to the game which makes him a fans’ favourite, with him prepared to stick his head, leg or any other part of him body in the way for the cause. He insists that side of his game is not something he thinks about too much though.

“I don’t think it is just about the physical game,” he said. “It is about sticking to your defending and winning the battle with the player you are up against. But if you have to use a bit of strength, that is what you do.”

What a player! I remember watching a few of his early games and he looked nervous, off the pace and unfit. But you could see what he was all about. A great athlete, strong, but it is his attitude which makes him so good. He loves it! At either end of the pitch, he puts the same effort in. The three of Ferdinand, Vidic and Van the Man are the best in the world, no doubt. Ferdinand and Vids are perfect for each other and that is what has been the basis for our amazing defensive game, even though there has been a lot of changes.

We have seen a lot in the past couple of months.Defenders dropping like flies,Rio injuring his back(i believe it still is keeping him a bit off the pace) but the 2 constants through this difficult period have been Nemanja and VDS.Either one off them is good enough to be player of the year in England, not just United. Why does it always have to be about Ronaldo,Gerrard,Lampard and Torres? This season,it’s the defence that is winning us the title,so it’s only fair that someone from that department is rewarded.

Its great for defenders everywhere that Vidic is being mentioned in the same breath as Player of the Year. I’ve always fumed at the lack of defenders that get given man of the match, Vidic’s a good example to youngsters that defending does get recognised! :)

Well said Costas couldn’t agree more, Vidic in my opinion should be without a doubt Player of the year. Not only has he been brilliant for us throughout a hectic season, most importantly he has been very consistant with his performances, never having a bad game. You never seem to see defenders being crowned player of the year and i bet if you asked every premier striker the tuffest opponent they have faced this season, Vidic would be on the tip of the tongue of a large majority of them. If he wins it will be well deserved !!

We are lucky as we have the two best centre backs in the world, they are the best I have ever seen at our club as they dovetail together so well, its like the defensive version of Yorke and Cole with their understanding.

hopefully he’ll start against inter, bang one in off his head and then bust adriano and keep them out!

So that is Vidic using only “a bit of his strength”… Wonder how it gonna be if he uses his full strength on Ibrahimovic next leg. hehe

  8. SULLY says:

Vida’s been a vital, vital cog in our brilliant defensive record, even more so than EVDS in my opinion. He comes from Serbia, Nemanja will fuckin’ murder you!

  9. nagdaddy says:

    Are United fans blind?

Our very own paddy >>>Vida & Ferdinand

  10. King Eric says:

I think if Vida gets stuck into Ibrahimovic from first whistle it will “scare” the lanky cunt and from then on he will have the upperhand everytime. As someone said the other day for a huge forward he has no heart.

It says something when Jonny Evans is the 3rd best centre defender we have. Loved Vidic since we signed him, and along with Evra have proved to be absolute bargains. Cant wait until Fergie pulls another ace out of his sleeve and makes us all think “What the fuck are u playin at Fergie” and then we all get proved wrong.

    Never doubt Fergie!

One of my favourite United player, could become a legend if he keeps playing like this.

  13. PossePossebon says:

Vida is that man! But I think Jonny Evans will be a big player for the future too. Our defence is winning us titles and both of them, together with Rio and VDS should really be recognised.
