Virus Hits Giggs, Scholes And Carrick

Michael Carrick and Ryan Giggs haven’t made the trip to Cluj because they are suffering with a virus. Carrick was initially ruled out but after Giggs and Scholes reported they felt rough too, they were sent home from Carrington. Ferguson suggested that Scholes wouldn’t have been playing anyway after playing 90 minutes against Spurs on Saturday.

blessing in disguise? Give the young guns a chance!!!

well that doesnt sound good does it? Are we cursed?

  3. Marq says:

Such a concidence that the 3 who were in the middle getting over run out at the same time?

  4. edcunited1878 says:

At least this will force Sir Alex to play Ando, Clevs and Fletch tomorrow.

  5. AJ says:

@Ed da red – whats wrong with that ?.. Ando and Clevs make a decent pair…time Clevs gets some europe experience!! Its just Cluj.. Not that i am underestimating them but come o.. Surely these 2 are good enough for them!

  6. edcunited1878 says:

Sir Alex stated he finds it difficult to leave out Anderson (and Cleverley to an extent) because Scholes and Carrick are in good form. In addition to the desire to play two traditional wide men.

There in itself is the tactical issue Sir Alex and the coaching staff must adjust. The best medicine for defense is not possession, not anymore with so many opposing players closing down and pressing so high up the pitch. There has to be a better central partnership with support from the full backs who distribute and support the wings, instead of the full backs constantly bombing forward and destroying any shape.

  7. Costas says:

A midfield virus then? Medical breakthrough.

Hope Carrick is ready for Newcastle. We will need him.

  8. Costas says:

Sir Alex admits he’s found it tough to leave out Anderson so far this season. “He’s a difficult one to leave out. There’s been nothing wrong with the form of Scholes and Carrick. It makes it difficult to involve others in the team, especially as our desire is always to play with two wide players. But Anderson’s pre-season form was terrific. He’s a top player.”

Finally a blessing in disguise! I am excited to see united playing in a side where Carrick isn’t automatic first choice…as effective he is at shielding the back 4, when we need to get going forward he is a liability in his overcautious sideways-backwards passing ways…. I would love to see him as a squad player but not first choice…he just doesn’t add enoughdynamism in our play..way too predictable…and since Fergie can’t drop Scholes these days the two of them almost play like 2 holding midfielders a lot of the time and neither have pace to stay with speedy and dynamic opponents… here’s to an AndoClev partnership!

i want to see cleverley in the lineup over scholes every match, scholes is only effective when opposition sit off of him

Fergie kills his team with bad selection..I don’t know when he will realise that human ability depreciates with time..Giggs and Scholesy has passed their time..No matter how scholes ruled the midfield in the 2rd half against spurs is not an issue..He has negligible energy to make a swift link up play..He plays slow safe passes, making risky mistakes..Scholes and Carrick combined yielded several meters to spurs which resulted in to Bale’s goal.Giggs in a match is almost a red card.dunno what reason Fergie has for fielding an unfit player..When will Anderson and Cleverly get their chance? My heart always bleeds whenever i see Pogba in a juve shirt..It was fergie’s fault..And then DDG is clearly better than lindegard..Fergie made me cried on saturday because of his ridiculous team selection..What is annoying is:he will continue fielding the same flops, leaving those who prosper in the previous match..Carrick/Giggs in the midfield,Giggs as a striker,Giggs to help dow the right…I am so down with fergie clinging to some of his orthodox players at all cost..I wouldn’t add to my miseries;so cluj am off..Then i can’t muster the courage to watch Giggs/Carrick in the midfield against Newcastle.

I think fans who see the illness of these 3 as a blessing have a point. In fact I also think it might be a blessing in disguise. They are all in their 30s and, for reasons best known to SAF, are keeping younger players off the starting line-up. The question is ‘when do we get to accept that these young players are good enough?’ When they don’t even get game time? I’d rather we lose games blooding youngsters than while playing old legs.

  15. T4M says:

    Stay infected lads!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  16. Don says:

@Proverb…the illness is not life threatening so no need to cringe…the point I was trying to make was that the only way to keep Carrick and Scholes out the lineup lately would be through illness or injury..much rather this way….it gives other players a chance to play and hopefully show they can be as if nort more effective…looking forward to the change!

  17. Proverb says:

Oh no fuck, illnesses are never a blessing, and fergie wouldn’t play them anyways after both were involved vs spurs, there’s this curse that seems like not going to go away anytime soon, and there’s our own fans wishing it continues so that their favs can get a place. Yeah it makes me cringe

    Abubakar

Take it easy drama queen. Yes we’re all wondering why Anderson n the younger players aren’t getting games but a season isn’t a couple of weeks long. They’ll get their time. Scholesy has proved he still has it and dominated the midfield. Carrick provides cover.

Fergie sees these players week in and out, not just on the pitch but in training etc and is a much better judge of who should play, than you, me or any other ‘fan’ here. Calm yo tits, its only October and we’re in the top 3. We’re going through a pretty tough run of fixtures you can’t win em all. Although I’ll admit that Anfield was where I was expecting us to drop points not at home against the Spuds.

  19. Redial says:

    @Abubakar
That was damn spot on. SAF didn’t admit it verbally, but did (admit in action?) By taking giggs off at half time. Giggs diidnt play well vs newcastle last season, vs l’pool and again he got to start ahead of ando or clevz vs spudz?! It’s a good argument to say SAF is the one who sees how the players perform in training, but don’t we all see how they perform on match days? There’s a saying where I come from. It goes like:
Everyone says a child is dull,
The parents say he has good handwriting,
What will he use his good handwriting to write?!

  20. parryheid says:

Think some talking about blessings may get their eyes opened vs Cluj these guys are no mugs as Braga at home found out and Braga are a fair team.Worrying.

  21. Costas says:

Agreed Parry. Carrick could be a big loss in tomorrow’s game.

  22. Ice Cube says:

All 3 do not get around the pitch too much. Not enough movement. I’d only start Carrick, but I like the job he does, but I prefer to see a more mobile player in the team.

Giggs, retire. You’ve done us proud, thanks.

Scholes, only good for bringing on as a sub. The best english midfielder since Robson, but even Robbo had his day.

  23. nesh says:

Sounds more like selective virus attack! Don’t know that technology exists… Play Ando and Clevs already…and wld expect Powell to feature later on
    in the game too

“Take it easy drama queen. Yes we’re all wondering why Anderson n the younger players aren’t getting games but a season isn’t a couple of weeks long”

The problem is that we’re very lucky being in the top 3 right now. Teams are very aware of our frailties and instead of coming to OT especially with fear, and hoping for a draw, they come expecting to take all points, and possibly humiliate ..sad state of affairs..

We need to field the best team possible every EPL game and play like we mean business from the get go. Put our tired legs out into a game to see it out, not start it.

There is giong to be fearce competition for the top this year, and I don’t believe we will have the luxury of dropping points and expect to be fighting it out come May..

  25. Don says:

@nesh ..that was my first thought..could this be just a coincidence? drop giggs and Carrick by caliming a virus? Shcoles was never going to play…

@proverb.. a bit dramatic mate…i think the rest get the point based on the football discussion…

I may be in the minority but Carrick is the wrong side of 30 and in my opinion has lost any pace he may have once had…we are turning into AC Milan of a few years agao…a side with a number of skilled players but on the wrong side of 30 (e.g Pirlo, Seedorf _etc…) you can’t have all of them playing at the same time because they become a liability due to their lack of pace and mobility…

I think the young players will be hungry to prove something…and they are no wall flowers either so I think we will do well tomorrow..the main key will be will our defense hold up and will we be defensively disciplined in midfield…

  26. parryheid says:

You wont have to worry about the defence tomorrow this is a guaranteed lifeboat job with one up and the rest packing the defence .

  27. Rednemz says:

    Blessing in disguise
I partially agree with most lads here but I still think Scholes and Carrick can offer better services. My concern is always having Giggs in the CM or a 2nd striker….I never works at all

Its good ando and clev are playing tmrw, let’s all hope it will be a good show. We are top 3 not because we played well but because of other reasons luck being one of them

  28. feedthatllama says:

Clevs and Ando were incredible at the beginning of last season, let’s not forget that, if Clevs hadn’t gotten injured I’m convinced they would have gone on to form a great pairing and been the spine of the team for the whole season, Fergie needs to trust these guys, otherwise when will they learn and improve? They are good enough to play in Europe

  29. mido says:

clev and ando r great guys….fergie let dem show 2maoo
