After missing Manchester United’s 3-1 win over Liverpool with a hamstring injury, Louis van Gaal has confirmed that our captain is fit to play in Sunday’s game against Southampton.

If Rooney’s absence, Marouane Fellaini was trusted to play up front, with Anthony Martial coming on in the second half to score a brilliant goal. Martial was rewarded for this performance with a start in the Champions League against PSV. While he didn’t score, the pace he added to the attack was welcomed.

Wayne is fit to play. He’s only had one week out. It was because we weren’t taking any risks with him. Phil Jones has come back and trained with the group for the first time. He’s not match fit but he’s fit to train. Only Luke Shaw is injured.

Will Martial start on Sunday, with Rooney playing behind him? Or is Rooney set to lead the line again?
