Welbeck: Best Feeling For Manc Kid Is Scoring For United

Following Danny Welbeck’s goal against Tottenham Hotspur on Monday, our striker from Longsight said that scoring for United is something Mancunian lads dream of.

“There is no better feeling for a Manc kid than scoring for United,” he said. “I want more of it.”

He was set up for the goal by Tom Cleverley, who he plays alongside for the England U-21s as well as United, and the understanding they’ve had allowed him to know where he needed to be to score.

“I have been playing with Tom since I was a young kid,” he continued. “We have a good understanding and once Chris rolled the ball back to him, I knew what kind of area it was going in. Thankfully I got my head on the end of it. We have both been at the academy for over 10 years, so to come through and start in the Manchester United first team is a massive achievement. It gives us confidence when the manager picks us. We have a great squad. There is youth and experience in abundance. Whoever is chosen will give it their best shot but Tom and I have shown we will work hard for the team whenever we are chosen.”

Get in there Danny boy! Happy for the lad. Morning red devils!!

  2. giggs12gerrard0 says:

Spot on Danny son! What better feeling being born and bred United and scoring in front of the Stretty End. I am just glad he has sorted out his celebration still laugh at his debut goal against Stoke!

  3. james says:

I bet the feeling for pulling off that backheel assist is pretty similar, well done Danny!

Ive not been on in a couple of days so would just like to say that:

Jones was immense, I mean truely immense, future captain in the making for both club and country.

    Young WOW

Rooney looks like the player he did 2 seasons ago, he really looks like he is enjoying himself again.

    lotion, basket

  4. ScholesForGoals says:

What a massive impact the boy is making since pre-season. Showed great character and determination to score and set up (beautifully) Ando’s goal against the Spuds.

I can only put into words how I feel about this young, invigorated squad by how a fellow heterosexual United fan put it to me recently… “i want to bathe in their spunk”. Pretty much says it all really. :D

I hope Fergie goes on forever. United. Relentless.

  5. Petey Red Red says:

Not sure bout ando’s celebration tho!

  6. berbafan09 says:

a month ago, we so called have the weakest midfield. a month later today, we have tom, ando, giggsy n possibly morrison to provide the flair n we have carrick, fletch n possibly pogba to be the destroyers. that’s not bad eh…=D

  7. Balaji Sivaraman says:

And the best feeling for a Manchester United fan is when a local lad comes through the system and scores such a goal.

I can guarantee that not even winning trophies can match the joy that such a goal created by Cleverley and scored by Welbeck provides.

It is a goal that epitomizes what this club is – and has been for more than half a century – all about.

  8. Darth-Redder says:

I hope he turns Oliver twist and guns for more goals. Ando’s looking great!. Jones looks like a future legend already!. But did anyone notice that Evra kept falling about?. Evra’s not the same player since Ronaldo left.

  9. Mikael says:

Oooh, Danny boy, Danny boy, Danny boy!!!
He get’s knocked down, but he gets up again… you know the song!

  10. Petey Red Red says:

    @scholesforgoals
The feeling is mutual, tho I’d go for sweat instead of spunk 

  11. roasty_mufc says:

has anyone else still got a semi on from the other nite still??
    this teams gettin me horny!!!!

  12. T4M says:

    Good lad.

  13. Darth-Redder says:

@Balaji winning trophies and watching the link up play between Cleverley and Danny aint on the same footing!. However I was elated to see them play!. Btw, Chicha is a class finisher but can play all round football half as well as Welbeck!.

  14. moscow JT says:

I’m also really proud of you, “nii tackie “, unlike that cunt, mario, of the blue half who is a disgrace to all the lads with ghanaian root.

  15. 0161-Jon says:

i just love hearing him in interviews, such a young playground sounding voice for what is fast becoming a mature player. The fact he sounds proper Manc is also excellent of course!

  16. CedarsDevil says:

I can only imagine what he must be feeling, what a blessing it must be to play and score for your boyhood club…. Like Balaji said nothing could be sweeter than watching 2 home grown players combine to score a goal……

  17. Petey Red Red says:

@darth, I believe Chico is the bomb diggy doo, don’t get me wrong welbeck is looking great, but Chico is a livewire, and it would take a great deal for him to be replaced by danny boy.

  18. ivanscholes says:

still remember the screamer welbeck scored against stoke a few years(?) back. Damn excited for the season!

  19. smartalex says:

Well done Danny! Keep it up lad!

  21. GoatinaUnitedShirt says:

I havent put in my post match report yet for those that are interested, for those that arent sod off.
I thought the game went pretty well, when going forward we looked dangerous even in the first half which unlike many others I thought was a very good performance. Holding the line and absorbing the pressure was equally as good and an amazing testament to Fergusons great eye for young talent as they emerged from the game men.
DeGea 8/10 – He looked to have got the simple things right against Spurs, I wouldnt say he was a rock in goal but thats only because of the jitters he had given me in previous games and nothing to do with his performance on the night. I for one slated him after the charity shield and West Brom match and hopefully hes proving me wrong. Thats why I am a goat and Sir Alex is who he is. I am however supremely impressed with DeGeas unfazing attitude and apparent confidence.

Smalling 8/10 – Was steady all night and was a clever inclusion that Ive just come to terms with. We have oscilated between the 4-4-2 and 4-5-1 systems trying to see the best way to play. 5-5-1 seems overly defensive and more a boring Mourinho ploy whereas 4-4-2 seems too risky and forward for the modern defensive game. I have seen that we rarely play two attacking fullbacks but rather exploit a particular weekness on one wing with a speedy overlapping fullback and secure the other side of the pitch so we are never exposed at the back with just two men. It seems we have in attack reverted to a more 3-5-2 on paper keeping the attacking option with 2 up front and holding the luxury of a packed midfield. And its players like Oshea, Brown that paved that way. Who can play wide reasonably well and more than adequate in the center something both Smalling and Evans can do with ease as can our boy DeLaet who is on loan. Smalling was solid.
Evans 8/10- Solid and I never heard Defoes name mentioned once all match. A very proffessional performance and his awareness and possitioning was top draw.
Jones 10/10 – That was some bloody debut in fact I would go as far as saying he played the perfect game. The opposition were not a bad side and they had a good win under their belt and an extra week of rest and excitement gearing up for the game. This boy along with Evans nullified the entire Tottenham attack. If they play like that every game then Spurs will have to wait 10 years for their next goal against us let alone a bloody win. Ive never offered 10/10 before as it can only be earned for the perfect game and a striker scoring hattricks doesnt always do his tracking back job well and so only gets a 9. Unbelievable.
Evra 8/10 – Was this the Evra of old peering out of the gloom from last year. he looked alert and lively and willing to run his heart out. A fit and happy Evra is a wonderful prospect on the left. Still finding his feet with new boy Young but thats just a time issue.

Anderson 8/10 – 8 because of the goal, had he not have scored he would have got a 7. Much more consistant than against West Brom but again that can be clouded by my interpretation on where I think he should be in regards to match fitness at the beginning of the season. He so obviously is a top player and looks to have thrown the shackles of being a top prospect to a valid member of the first team and a mainstay of many years to come. He will score more and look forward to Bryan Robson-esque runs into the box and goals scored.
Cleverley 8/10 – a solid performance and looks more and more the part the more I see this boy play. Im not getting carried away as I have in the past and now age has ruined me but this boy looks like a young Iniesta. He will find his scoring boots sooner than some people think and i for one wouldnt be surprised if he gets 12+ goals for the season and thats not too shabby for a midfielder.
Young 7-8/10 – Posed a threat and shows what an unbelievably good buy he was, he offers something different and he does it well. Corners look to have been given a new lease of life and it wont be long before him and Evra strike up alot of excitement on the wing.
Nani 7/10 – Infuriating at times but how many times do we say that. Can you replace him in the team, no chance. We have the players that can cope with his wayward passes and suspect decisions which cost him his champions league final spot but when he can effortlessly glide past a double man marking he also makes it easy for other players when he pulls it off.
Giggs 8/10 – Dont forget me was Giggs reply to the praise the youngsters have recieived of late and it goes to show what an ambassador he is to our club. Not only in his play but also the support he has given to the youngsters now coming through. A legend.
Park not on long enough to gage his contribution along with Hernandez. Giggs gets a mention for his obvious contribution.

Rooney 9/10 – Full of beans and worked his arse off, how happy am i that Fergie convinced him to stay. You cant argue the boys ability and is almost a great. Hes not always pretty and flamboyent like a Cantona or Messi but he is as effective as a Scholes or Xavi with the prowess of a Yorke in front of goal. What a combo and only a demolishing performance against a team like Barcelona in a big match stands in the way of cult status.
Wellbeck 7-8/10 – The headed goal was sublime and he took it like a seasoned pro. His running at times was confusing for the pass but that can only get better with time with the first team and playing. He is a fantastic option and I hope above all else he gets a good solid run in the team. We by far have the best forwards of any team in Europe and they all offer something different and in abundance. His running was wonderful and with our eagerly running strikers in Chico, Rooney and Welbeck, we wont be beaten that often this year.

All in all the young lads showed that United is at the top to stay despiteCity sheiking their wallet and the return of King Kenny of wankpool.

  22. GoatinaUnitedShirt says:

jesus christ sorry about the massive write up. I just thought i had to give the praise that was more than deserving. A better man would put it more concisely.

  23. dasilvatwins says:

WHAT A GAME (yea im a bit late ) if there was one thing lacking , its a Defensive mid who tackle not a creative midfielder…step up fletcher! :D just need to get him back on form and young nani valencia giggs ando can play the creative part. i HATE the fact that the english media are getting on de gea’s back of how he made a meal of the tottenham game he made arguably one mistake and then even then he got the ball back immediately

  24. Dave Malaysia says:

For all those watching our youth developement over the years, this must be a long good feeling seeing someone succeed, in this case quite a few.

In terms of seniority and experience:

Jonny Evans,Danny Welbeck,Tom Cleverly. (gibson seems on his way)

    Rafael,Fabio. (Signed into our reserves)

Rooney,Nani,Anderson,Hernandez,Chris,Jones,DDG . (signed into the first team)

    Rising Stars: Fedrico,Pogba,Ryan,Morrison,King.

Few others like Drinkwater,Norwood still not clear in progress.

Our Pillars: Giggs,Darren Fletcher. (thru academy)

Seniors ,the new team leaders, pillars: Vidic,Rio,Evra,Park,Carrick.

Then theres is Owen and Berba, 2 seniors.

    Fergie the Guru.

  25. smartalex says:

An excellent match report from GoatinaUnitedShirt! Thanks Goat!

You pretty much nailed it across the board. Perhaps my only change would be that I think you were a bit generous with Giggs, as he only played 10 minutes, as did Park and Hernandez. Thanks for your contribution, and no, it wasn’t too long at all.

  27. smartalex says:

Great post Dave Malaysia! Our Academy and youth systems are clearly the best and most productive in England. In fact we have our own gold mine!

  28. bayobuya says:

    @Goat love your ratings!

@smartalex: tq. Dude ,be humble , don laugh at our enemies.

We just gut em in battle, then share the rum and tuak.

    oops forgot the oysters!

  30. CedarsDevil says:

    Goat

Great write up albeit long enough for a small book (lol) Have to agree with your ratings and sense of excitement that we are all feeling at the moment

    Cheers my friend

  31. Dave Malaysia says:

If its true and comes to pass that we sell the naming rights to Carrington, then the sum involved wud have to be in 100 million pounds.

If DHL is paying 40 for a period on our training kit ,then 100 mil is reasonable and also our club always pushes to be in the lead.
Meaning arse are getting 100 mil for the emirates over 4 or 5 years, then we must top that.

Also it opens up the spectre of the naming right to Old Trafford BUT I personally feel they will keep thier word and not do that.

I beleive they are looking at all alternatives, probaly the bus we use will have a sponsor ,if it hasent already have one.

  32. GoatinaUnitedShirt says:

cheers smartalex and bayobuya for the kind words, nice to be appreciated. If I left that to the wife Id be a very lonely and sad excuse for a man. Smartalex I really only gave Giggs credit because his chip for Rooney and the fact that he could just come out and be as effective as the youngsters with a swagger and at a canter. It was the typical youve still got a long way to go untill you reach what Ive acchieved. The ultimate putting in your place and kick up the arse to carry on going forward and improve as a player. Maybe Im getting sentimental in my old age. bayobuya thats the beauty of home grown stars not only does it link the fans with the team and make us feel like one great big happy family when our boy takes on the rest of the world but it gives us that stay at home security. When city fails to come up with the prise despite all their millions dont be surprised when City implodes like an Arsenal and well watch the DaSilva, Tevez, Aguero, Yaya, Ballotelli …………..s´of this world looking to return back to their “friends and families”. City is a flash in the pan.

Cheers mate Im grinning from ear to ear. I’ll be honest and say I wasnt to sure about Cleverly despite such rave reviews on here by many especially King Eric. I thought he was a huge talent but worried because of his size. In my mind I still live in the world of 70 and 80′s kick up the arse football and havent yet come to terms with the smaller man able to hold his own. But what a boy he looks. I had no doubts however about Wellbeck that was apparent from the get go.

  34. james says:

@ Darth Redder – I noticed Pat struggle in the Champs league final mate. I love the bloke but he is getting on a bit now, if we have a weak link at the back then he is it, not a bad weak link to have though hey!

  35. smartalex says:

Patrice Evra is NOT a weak link. He played excellently on Monday. He marshaled the defense, an example of which is the protection that he gave de Gea at corners.

  36. markynorbs says:

Well done. Danny boy. Great finish and that was a deft back-heel to set up Ando’s goal.

  37. King Eric says:

Someof the stick Paddy gets its beyond beilief. Still a top player despite his trainwreck at Wembley.

  38. Friendly -Neighbourhood -Sneijderman says:

    Love Danny !

Thought he was from Stretford not Longsight ?

  39. redcrab says:

Credit to Steve Bruce for his role in shaping what looks to be a promising career.
I’m sure he was gutted to lose Welbeck, but I would not be at all surprised to find out he lept out of his chair and screamed “get in there!” when that header hit the back of the net!

  40. lordrt says:

Given some more matches and he could keep Chicharito on the bench lol, but he needs to keep focused and not be swept away by his first goal of the season

  41. smartalex says:

I’d say that throughout football history the most attacking of players have played on the right wing. Certainly most goals are assisted from there. Why? Central defenders and the defensive midfielders force play out to the flanks. From there the ball is crossed or brought into the goal-scoring areas; viz the box. As left footed players are few and far between, it is the right wing that holds the most promise on attack for most sides.

Therefore, defensively speaking it is not unreasonable to consider Left Back as the most difficult position on the field to fill. Further, as the right flank is used by teams to attack, it stands to reason that a quality left winger, assisted by an attacking left back, can create havoc by taking advantage on the counter-attack.

I’m not sure who in world football can be considered as a better Left Back than Patrice Evra, but I am sure that he remains in the top echelon in his position. We are exceptionally fortunate to have him.

  42. willierednut says:

Fabio is coming for Evra’s place. He better get his nut right.

    @Goat

Only 9/10 for Rooney? Come on! 10/10!

On topic, Danny struggled in the first half. When we scored though, you seen the confidence straight away. Good understanding with TC, will bode well for United. Well done lad!

  43. wayne says:

When this lad kisses the badge we all know he means it,not like 90% of the phoney cunts playing in the prem

  44. willierednut says:

Wayne – Well mate, you’d like to think so. He’s United through and through, so yeah. If he wasn’t playing, you would assume, he’d be in the Stretford end watching United.

  45. themufc1999 says:

I thought he was going to be taken off. Seem to lose the ball on a few occasions because he held onto it that tad bit to long instaed of passin it off faster. Then he got the goal and he’s confidence just soared. What a second half performance.

  46. Balaji Sivaraman says:

@Goat, Spot on about Rooney mate. I posted on here sometime ago that what we are seeing now is what Sir Alex saw more than a year ago. He realized that Rooney will be lynchpin of his team and there is no way we could’ve afforded to lose him. And despite his past faults, you can see that whenever he plays any sort of football, he gives a 110% to the cause. I am pretty sure he will be written into the United history books as, dare I say it, a United legend; and the past year will be but a minor blot in his overall career.

Of course, it again proves why we are who we are and why Sir Alex is a genius. Not many of us may have seen the light in letting Rooney stay when greater legends have been shown the door, but it reiterates that Sir Alex is always right.

  47. wayne says:

Thanks for confirming that for me willie

  55. smartalex says:

“It helps having a week to prepare. It’s disappointing that Rio [Ferdinand] and Nemanja [Vidic] are injured,” Phil Jones told SkySports. “You don’t want to lose your best players, especially at the start of the season, but I knew I had my chance to step up to the plate tonight and hopefully I’ve showed the gaffer I can do it. It’s incredible. The fans were unbelievable. I knew it would be like this. I was just excited to be out there and pleased with the three points in the end,” he continued. “I think it’s the tempo of the game that’s the biggest difference. No disrespect to Blackburn, I enjoyed my time there, but it’s the speed at which we play. The gaffer and Rene [Meulensteen] have been saying all week how much energy we’ve got in the side. That showed today and it’s paid off.”

    keep it danny boy

  57. gazzer says:

Hey, after those years of seeing people like djemba djemba it is a revelation to see this explosion of young players. Where did they come from? We bought some of them (Jones, Smalling, Chicharito) and we grew some of them (Evans, Cleverly, Wellbeck) and we grabbed a few of them before anyone else knew who they were (Anderson and the twins).
Somehow SAF and his team are polishing these gems in a way that others aren’t theirs. Look at how Theo Walcott still doesn’t know what to do, and how SWP still dribbles into dead ends!!
I’m so full of hope, I’ve almost forgotten what Barca did to us!! After all, we beat them in the US, and maybe Jones will snuff out Iniesta next time. I wouldn’t put it past him.
    Good times indeed.

  58. gazzer says:

While I’m on the topic, I’m surprised that Rooney doesn’t threaten to quit England for lack of ambition!!!
It must drive him nuts having to play on the same field with SWP, Theo Walcott, and Stuart Downing!!

  59. preslavbg says:

Totally agreed with gazzer! Danny and all of the lot got great skills, talent and all a GREAT team needs! Barcelona will have a hard time even getting into our half in the next one, and I’m sayin it coz i’m sure we will play them again soon!
