Welbz: I’m proud to play for my boyhood club

Danny Welbeck has spoken of his pride in getting to play for Manchester United.

“It’s always a proud moment to pull on the shirt especially given the fact I’m a Manchester boy,” said Welbeck. “I’ve supported the club all my life and to have come through the ranks and got into the first-team is a real privilege and honour. This club has so much history and there have been so many fantastic memories created by the players who have represented this club, past and present. It’s just great to be part of it.”

Cant wait for you to fulfill your potential! God bless mate!

  5. FletchTHEMAN says:

Danny is a credit to this club and his family. Hope he gets more chances to shine this year. Think he will be important for Enland as well which is always a good opportunity for youngsters to develop poise. He was ripping Real Madrid appart, which shows his quality.

  6. FletchTHEMAN says:

    A fun read over at

Welbz: “Will you be wearing the collar up or down?”
Rio: “Down. There’s only one person who should be wearing the collar up and that’s Eric Cantona. He’s retired now”

    EPIC From Rio!

  7. samuel - united WE stand says:

The lad has everything, one thing missing is tha composure and calmness which equals goals. Pace, power, skills, aerial ability. He can link play up and his short intricate passing is very good but He has to improve his movement and finishing, he does that and he’ll be on his way to fulfilling that potential of his hopefully.

  8. iced earth says:

    samuel – united WE stand
agree with you mate .he has everything
but he should be used as striker i think playing him in the wing is a waste of his talent
the season when sir alex used him as striker i think he scored 12 or 13 goals
he could be one of the best striker in europe i am certain

  9. samuel - united WE stand says:

FletchTheman – I know you’re very sceptical about all these rumours and so am I just a little but you got to wonder where get their scoops from, they seem very convinced that a deal will happen come july, I know we can only ever takes it seriously until he’s at least at bridgewater taking his medical.

  10. samuel - united WE stand says:

Iced earth – it’s difficult breaking into a forwards collection of javier hernandez, van persie and rooney, his flexibilty has really helped him in terms of game time but I agree, he has to see more game chances as a centre forward but to keep his place, he’ll have to go on phenomenal run of scoring, his all round play is intact so I feel he could play as a lone front man but the competition up top is immense.

  11. Viva United says:

Off topic real Madrid president perez says, pepe ronaldo or casillas are not leaving Madrid. Also says ronaldo will be there for when they win 10th champions league. Just hope he dosent get reallected

  12. Fergie's gum says:

Back up your words with more 2 goals all season irrespective of whether you work your ass off

  13. FletchTHEMAN says:

    Samuel: Cheers mate.

Anything you read in SportsDirect News is likely to be swill.

Go out and find an article, not a line in a rumors collumn, but an honest paper, with the story about United and Strootman. You will find it’s in places like AS and Record and your favorite SportsDirect.

The story has been in the ITK world since January, yet no respected paper has picked it up? Strange much.

Oh, and I actually like the look of this kid. Just not the look of the links.

Check the locks and call in the kids mate. ;)
    Just saying. Cheers.

  14. King Eric says:

Fergies gum. Danny has to back fuck all up. He’s been an integral part last two seasons and will become top drawer.

Fuck off Perez you’re getting boring.

  15. King Eric says:

We’ll be able to scout Strootman tonight against Germany. He’s playing in the tournament isn’t he?

  16. AlphaRS says:

I seem to remember one Daniel Welbeck putting x2 killer performances in against Real Madrid this season. While the rest of our strikers were missing chances for fun this local lad from Longsight nodded United 1-0 up at the Bernabau. At the feckin Bernabau…!

I’m immensely proud of Welbz. Always something special about a local lad coming through the ranks at United.

  17. lordrt says:

Ok he’s proud of wearing the shirt, but then he must also make SAF and the club proud of him, and not just score 1 or 2 goals in a season and come out bragging about his love for the club etc… without goals there’s no win, and no win means no titles. So if he really wants to stay here, he must turn words into action and start putting them in.

  18. denton davey says:

As an addendum to the other thread about wingers – or, in my opinion, no wingers – switching to an “attacking diamond” would seemingly relegate DannyTheLad to the bench BUT he probably end up with more playing time since injuries happen and he could be the next-choice if any one of TheWayneBoy, RVP and Chicharito is out.

To be sure, DannyTheLad had a great pair of matches against TheVirus but his goal-starved statistics don’t lie – he’s still nowhere near being a finished product. BUT he has time on his side. One can only hope that his loyalty to his “boyhood club” would trump impatience – his time will come and when it does he’ll be a killer-striker for five/six years.

  19. WeAreUnited says:

Danny Welbeck our future Thierry Henry if he fullfills his potential.

he has everythig. Now hee need that goalscoring confidence and maybe if Rooney leaves and we don’t get anyone else, Welbz will get the chance to show himself, now he has more experience and has won more tittles than Gerrard.

    cmon son, it’s your time!

  20. bombay_devil says:

He sounds like the guy everyone would always wish well for.

  21. bombay_devil says:

    @ fletch the man

that was funny, Rio’s comment lol.

  22. Greek (MU)djahiddin says:

He has potential but he must not play out of position. He was a revelation in 2011-12 but 2 goals only last season makes the coming season critical for his future. He has pace, excellent all round work rate, zeal , good positions in space but he needs to score more since he will always be competing and compared to Van Persie, Rooney and, most important, to Chicha. He is young, he must be given the chance, persist with him and we have special feelings for the lad who comes from within.

  23. StretfordEnder says:

Welbz went my school and played footy with him ect. He always wanted to play for utd and its great because united are producing top quality players. You can all tell that danny has a desire to play for united for a long time to come.

  24. T. says:

If Welbz, a.k.a Carl in Simpsons, wasnt born in Manchester, there would be no chance in hell he could get a spot in our squad. He isn´t calm enough in front of goal, he always stumbles and fall to the ground when taking a shot, making a dribble or trying to pass the ball. I don´t know what´s wrong with the lad, I like him for his work rate. But his bodycontrol and eye-foot coordination isn´t working to his advantage.

In United we have plenty of players proving themselves week in and week out, Welbz just dosn´t do it for me. But I must be wrong cause he even lures his way into the national team.

We have way to good forwards to let Welbz play and more is lurking in the academy. Lets try them out in the grown ups team instead and sell Welbz cause there should be good money in him as a homegrown and England caps to his belt too.

  25. Raizzen says:

The measure of a striker is the amount of goals he scores. Quite unfair for I think Welbeck has been an integral part of the squad.

And thank you mentioning his Madrid performance. Varane who looked so good against other top teams looked like he can’t have Welbeck in his pocket and had his hands full all match long.

I really like this lad, his work rate is superb and he clearly wears the badge with pride. A tad unlucky with the goals hopefully they will come in very soon.

And frankly I am sometimes at a lost as to why do we have fans who berate their own players so badly. We’ve had a couple players who was at the end of this unjust treatment from a section of United’s fans, One Berbatov came to mind.

  26. The One says:

@Raizzen….Fletcher too used to be berated and used as a scapegoat at one stage as well, if you remember.

  27. MyCowIsTheBest says:

I am proud that we have let Welbeck become a member of our first team. But reading what he said, I am more worried that he is satisfied with just that, i.e being able to achieve his dream or playing for United.

I hope he has bigger ambition, like becoming the best player United has ever seen, or wanting to win 10 league titles and such.. It is the ambition that is important to drive you to improve yourself faster.
