Manchester United take on Barnsley in the fourth round of the Carling Cup which on paper is one of the easier draws of the round, given the several Premiership pairings to be played tonight and tomorrow.
Still, United are no strangers to cup upsets and were even knocked out of the FA Cup by Barnsley in the 97-98 season. More recent success for Barnsley include the impressive FA Cup victories over Liverpool and Chelsea the season before last.
Wes Brown has warned the young players that are likely to play tonight that tonight is going to be anything but easy.
“When you play at Old Trafford it is never easy,” said Wes. “However if you can get over the fear factor, the way we play, it can be very enjoyable. Then you go away to small ground, a tight area and it is a completely different game. They get stuck in, they are rattling and it can throw you. I think our young lads know what they are up against and those with experience will help. We certainly don’t want any mishaps and I am sure we will be ready for the challenge.”

Man Utd News 24/7

Can’t wait with Macheda, Tosic, Obertan, and hopefully Eikrem and King getting runs out – should be a great testament to Ole’s coaching.
Yes.Barnsley away from home will be difficult.Although i want us to do well i wont be bothered if we get lose
My team
Foster
Neville Brown evans Fabio
Obertan Gibson Anderson nani
Owen Welbeck
Also Barnsley are managed by mark Robins. Who can forget that goal in 1990 against Nottingham Forest.
Eikrem to score first
Rio should be made to play too… he needs games if he is to get his form back… but cant wait to see some of the young lads get a run out….
@Long John O’Shea
You know there is no way that is gonna happen but your right it may need to be done
I know bad ref
no fletcher
i miss hargreaves
carra should of gotta red
2 penos not given
la la la
but what I believe is the manchester united problem maybe the dreaded thing that we really really dont need and Sir Alex tries to get away from it but its complacency.and i think complacency maybe not in the united team but in the brain of some
Hope Kiko starts, really keen to see him Tosic and Obertan together! I think Welbeck has had more opportunities than most so would be tempted to leave him out, get Owen’s eye in I think, although a silly game to get him injured in! Havent seen as much of Gibson this season and wish Hargo was back. Get a couple of early goals and watch the kids play. Then concentrate on Blackburn, CSKA and Chelsea!
Gotta Hate, he needs games more than most… and you are so right about complacency its in the team, not all of it but you could see on sunday that is was there… really hope a few of the young lads run amok tonight and really give SAF something to think about…
Rio and Brown must start get back to match fitness. Can’t wait to see Obertan’s debut, and the youngster’s shall shine tonight.
Time for some devine inspiration, step forward gabriel obertan.
Hope Fletch gets a run out tonight if he is now fit. Needs some game time. Looking forward to seeing Orbetan play. Will be a difficult game at Oakwell.
Going tonight, looking forward to seeing some of the young lads. Lets stuff them, not least because i work in Barnsley and it would shut the ABU bellends up. COME ON UNITED!
I don’t want to build him up too much but I’m looking forward to seeing Obertan play his first game for the first team, from the matches I’ve seen this guy looks the dogs boll*cks….
hehe.. Obertan looks like he’s got so many tricks that he just doesn’t know what to do with them, moving to United could be a golden move for him as we are a team that usually likes to play with discipline… so people should give him plenty of time before making final judgments
Yeah perfect opportunity to see the future superstars shine. hope to see obertan he looks like an excellent prospect. hey guys don’t you think fergie is a genius i mean he got him from bordeaux for 3 million. also hope to see tosic he really needs to get to show what he can do. the FUTURE is United!:-)
is obertan in the squad tonight? didn’t see him listed on MEN.
Sanj – Yeah definately pal, Fergie said yesterday.
Mark – May see you there. Apparantley they are opening up (is it the Metro Centre) in Barnsley for all the United fans.
King Eric- looking forward to seeing him in action. Loads of potential.
is obatan that good or are we just bigging up an average player again?
larry white was shoked we signed him? hope is is as good as you say lads.
keano99
He’s good by the signs so far he’s gonna be big
skill strainght height speed power vision and a bit more skill
also a head the size of tweety pie so I d say he’ll score one or 2 power headers
larry didnt think we’d sign a player with a lower spine injury mostly
but it seems cured so watch out nani
Obertan is quality, I’ve watched and tracked him since we’ve signed him, and I think he will be a great signing although he obviously needs first team experience…
Good advice from Big Bad Wesley Brown. I hope Wes can get back to full fitness because I still think he’s our best right-back.
As for the team tonight, I’m hoping for:
Kuszczak;
Neville, Brown, J. Evans, Fabio;
Obertan, Gibson, Eikrem, Tosic;
Welbeck, Owen.
Subs: Foster, De Laet, Rafael, C. Evans, Nani, Macheda, King.
@GHTT: “Head size of tweetie pie”, that was brilliant! lol
Guys, do you think Tosic is gonna play? I hope to see him in action again for quite some time. I thought he was good at the pre season, but we never saw him then.
You need to cancel your wankfest guys.. Bad news. Eikrem is in Norway for a few days, recovering from a slight injury
