Wes: Da Silvas Are The Future

Wes Brown has sung the praises of Rafael and Fabio da Silva, who he reckons will one day both be United’s first choice full-backs. You could argue Rafael already is but Fabio will have to weight for Evra to hang up his boots first.

“They are great lads who train so hard,” said Wes. “They just have this great desire to win. You can see whenever they play they are totally focused on doing their best for the team – and see how much they love driving forward as well as defending. As long as they keep progressing, I don’t see any reason why they can’t become our first-choice full-backs in future.”

Well, Evra has been slipping of late, let’s see how they both do once or twice.

  2. Red Simmo says:

With these two operating ‘roberto carlos’ like down the flanks, perhaps an enthralling 3-5-2 formation could be on the cards?

Only after paddy evra has moved on of course!

  3. and solskjaer has won it says:

Just teach them not to lunge into tackles that they know their not going to win and they’ll be the best for years to come

  4. AON: Americans Out Now says:

Hope the Gaffer gives Fabio more games..as he is supposed to be better than Rafael !!

  5. King Eric says:

Nice one Wes lad. I will never forget Rafa’s reaction when Nani buried the goal at home to Spurs end of last season. Although that is also to do with the fact he came off his post for King’s equaliser. Great players the both of them. Just imagine how good they can become.

  6. Kings says:

Top quality players. Rafael and Evra are the best full-back combination in Europe for me. Fabio will get better in time. Rafael has a great attitude – his reaction to Nani’s goal against Spurs last season, a sigh of relief expression, and his goal at the Emirates in 2008/09, when we lost 2-1, telling all the players to hurry up and get back in the hope that we could nick another.

  7. alatise akeem says:

fabio should be allowed to play regularly to boost his confidence.

  8. Kings says:

Oh yeah, and him squaring up to that rat faced cunt Tevez, great stuff!

  9. Emmanuel says:

Rafael is the best right back in the league for now..look on his cross and his amazing defending character..keep it up Fabio as well.

  10. Costas says:

    Damn right.

  11. Whiteside Curler says:

    ‘Weight for Evra’ Scott?

I’m putting all my wait behind you there.

  12. the scottish wonder says:

i miss phil neville his through balls are so good

  13. Unitedfanatic says:

And the ref brings Chelsea’s season back on track! What a sensational return that is. Anelka charges toward the goal, and then decides he wants to ram into Howard rather than attempt for goal so he just pushes the ball aside and runs three yards to collide with Howard. Sensational stuff from the champions.

  14. Unitedfanatic says:

On topic, at first I felt Fabio and Rafael were equally good. But Fab’s lack of chances due to good old Patrice’s presence have hampered his development unlike Rafa’s.

  15. mickjk says:

I do hope we see Fabio Develop as well as Rafa has this past year or so. I think Evras form is getting really good so fabio probably could have done with an extra couple of league cup matches.

  16. the scottish wonder says:

    @Unitedfanatic

    yeh thats true

there you can see it as cleasly as it gets.. young players should not go to the big clubs to early if they have limited chances theyre development will be hampered

see for example Eikrem.. how good is he?? well he is 20 year old and hasnt played one professional game in his career

how good would he have been if he was playing for smaller club and had played maybe 50 games?

ive been thinking about this young kid in Anderlecht, Lukaku a great prospect but what if he joines us? Will he have a lot of games? no.. Will his development be hampered? yes

We have too many players in our squad to give the youth the proper chance…

  17. The Real AB says:

    1-1 everton

Baines take a bow.. What a run and good finish by becckford.

  18. Ash says:

    Everton score.

  19. The Real AB says:

    On Topic-
Rafael should be our first choice but fabio is still lagging in that regard.

  20. Kings says:

Tevez just got subbed and apparantly pushed Mancini asking him why he was taken off. Great stuff! What a cunt.

  21. Costas says:

7 minutes of stoppage time? Why’?

  22. asite says:

fucking chelski. they are no goood.
    man united for ever

  23. Xyth says:

7 fucking minutes of injury time at Stamford Bridge?!!!!

  24. Costas says:

Cahill caught Cech just above the eye causing a stoppage in play. That’s why they are playing 7 minutes of injury time.

  25. asite says:

those fucking chelski, they are no good.
    united for ever

  26. Costas says:

It would have been nice if Arsenal didn’t score a second but lets not get too greedy.

No need to worry about losing the game today. We beat Arse and we are back on top with a game in hand.

  27. Ash says:

Feeling gutted that we wont play today.Hope we thrash guuners and spurs beat chelski. Its our title to lose now.

  28. united.george says:

chelsea got booed by their fans at the end of the game…..

  29. willierednut says:

Them bastards were hanging on near the end, well played the toffees.

  30. CedarsDevil says:

Chelsea should have lost the game had it not been for that terrible error by P. Neville…. They seem to be on a free fall and long may it continue

  31. Vishakh says:

@ Costas- spot on mate. if we can beat arsenal, and win that game in hand, we can be clear of arsenal. thank goodness for jermaine beckford, couldnt hit a barn door with his shots before today, but when it counted, he scored

  32. redevil forever says:

thanks toffees now lets beat the arse next weekend

  33. choccy says:

chelsea always get booed if they dont win…
    pity fulham couldnt hang on..

  34. weeeeldrinkadrinkadrink says:

I absolutely love these guys, still a small bit green but they have so much energy and skill..they are set to become a huge part of this club.

  35. orez says:

Good day for us and we have not even played. Chelsea lost two more points. I still consider them the biggest threat. Next game with Arse is crucial. We need to win that one and we have everything to do it.

  36. CedarsDevil says:

Lets see what the ABU media cunts have to say about the rent boys now

  37. 102melbourne says:

I’m a regular reader of this blog… First time I’m posting though..
Wanted to give my two pence worth on Chelsea…
If you go back to pre seasom you see they had a horrible one…
Though that don’t say much but it does show that there second and third
String squads aren’t just up to it…
On the contrary Man U had a wonderful preason with the kids..
Cleverly bagged one today… Welbeck starter for Sunderland…
As season goes on Chelsea will continue their free fall….
And Arsenal just don’t have the steel in them to grind on throughout the season…
    Title ours to loose?

  38. orez says:

BTW Cleverley scored again and this time it was a point saver.

  39. Corea says:

King Eric you are a genius! Viva King Eric! ;-)

  40. Costas says:

    @Vishakh

Agreed about Beckford. I would have been pissed off if the only thing he did right in 2010 was that goal at OT…

  41. redevil forever says:

why is my name the only one in red is it because i am the biggest utd fan here xd

  42. CedarsDevil says:

Cracker of a match at the Emirates and Fulham did deserve a point, but lets not get too greedy hey?

    lol

  43. Passe says:

This was a very good result regardless of the Arsenal one. When Arsenal and Chelsea meet eachother in a couple of weeks Drogba will once again have his field day and Arsenal will drop points. If we win against L’Arse we are in a very good position. Roll on Next weekend.

  44. King Eric says:

Corea. Thanks mate but I am no genious I can just sense when the rentboys will drop points. No confidence in that average team now. Five points out of eighteen. Typicvally durham the cunt is siding for anelka. Cunt. We can go four or five points clear now. Did tevez really push richard madeley? Twat. Aint remotely worried about wengers fairies. Come on united. Good to see classy chavs booing them off. Ancelotti for the sack.

  45. Zibbie says:

    Fabio x 2?
With Patrick Evra approaching 30 and Fabio not really setting the world alight when given the opportunity, it appears that Sir Alex Ferguson is looking for a left back for the future and his search seems to have taken him to another Fabio…

    …Fabio Coentrao.

The 22-year old Portuguese international has had an incredible 12-18 months from being a reserve left winger loaned out to the Spanish Spainish Division, albeit with Zaragoza, to Benfica and Portugal’s starting left-back. He also played in every game of the country’s World Cup Campaign to boot.

Is impressive rise has alerted Manchester United, to the fact he might only be Evra’s long-term replacement but might do enough to displace the Frenchman now.

However, as his form has catapulted, his value has too and the guy that you could probably have acquired for around £2m at the start of 2009-10 is now worth around £10m.

So, does Fergie feel he needs to be paying an eight-figure sum for a position they already have Patrick Evra in? Or will this be a signing purely to placate Rooney’s want for ‘ambition’ in the transfer market?

I’ll be honest, as a Tampa Bay Buccaneers fan, I can’t see Glazer being able to give them that much to spend!

  46. Zibbie says:

By the way thats a copy and past from 4-4-2..
    I personally love the twins.

  47. Drew Vader says:

Did anyone see in the first half when Malouda retaliated and hit Phil in the face, and wait for it, didn’t even get booked?!?!?! Fucking refs are unbelievable

  48. Zibbie says:

The game would be on now…….
GO ROONEY!!!!!!!!! Get a good game in on Tuesday a Rooney hat trick. A goal, an assist and a yellow card. Then eviscerate the Goomers and eat their end trails!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  49. King Eric says:

Ps. I see everyone saying arsenal top whilst conveniently forgetting to mention we have a game in hand. Its funny. I vividly remember getting on the coach afyer we drew against brom. Fivelive saying how chelsea should be crowned already as its gonna be a procession. Even saying how they should start the league from scratch. Don’t fucking think so.

  50. Zelh says:

Zibbie – Poor report by 4-4-2. Fabio took his chances i.e. against Fulham II in the community shield. And Coentrao is a natural winger and has way to many problems with defending. Besides that he’s way to expansive and Benfica wants something around 30Mio €

  51. Corea says:

@King Eric – let it be a talisman. It all started with the Sunderland game, pal. I owe you a pint, hope i have the opportunity sooner rather then later.

  52. Costas says:

    @Drew Vader

Well, of course that will mean an aumatic 3 match ban meaning Malouda will miss United game. Oh wait. He also hit a Pompey player last year and wasn’t banned from the OT game as he should have. Leave it to the FA to give him a free pass again.

    King Eric

Nice to see we share the same ‘love’ for the ABU media, just listen to Townsend singing the praises of Arsenal after having self declared Chelsea as champions back in September!

  55. Utd4life says:

Just saw the everton equaliser..Great cross by baines..And the mighty *cough* chavs have dropped 2 points..

  56. King Eric says:

Corea. Yeah that would be good mate. Just give me a shout anytime you are in england up north. Cedars hello mate. Hope you are ok. Yeah its laughable innit. Stan dogger collymore not even talking about chelsea. They conviniently forget what they were all saying two months ago

  57. CedarsDevil says:

Just saw the interview with Ancelotti and to be honest I feel sorry for the man, having managed one of the biggest clubs in the world in AC Milan he now finds himself being at a mob club where people call the shots behind his back……… Chelsea = a poor excuse for a football club

  58. Unitedfanatic says:

    @the scottish wonder

Well said. The golden generation at our club became golden, mostly thanks to the number of games they got while they were young. They might have been silver, had they been in Cleverley / Welbeck’s shoes and gone out on loan. Though, that’s atleast better than staying and not getting top-level games to play.

But at the end of the day, that’s how it has got to be, in today’s football. That’s a trade off you got to make, staying patient and making the most the limited chances that come your way. It is only unfortunate that if you don’t, you most likely end up like Foster, or back to the bench for your next chance.

  59. CedarsDevil says:

Wait for it, yes wait for it…………………. Now the bloody nut heads called experts are comparing Nasri to Messi, YES you heard it here first…… Craig Stewart the so called expert

    hahahahahaha

  60. willierednut says:

To be fair to Malouda, Phill had a couple of goes at him and he responded, like any player would do in that situation. On the Cahil incident, that was a accident imo, but I’m sure some media will make the most of it as usual.

  61. Unitedfanatic says:

Absolutely thrilled Chelski buried it, and absolutely gutted we aren’t playing today. They didn’t deserve that penalty, and we didn’t deserve not playing because Black-frikkin-pool’s ground isn’t upto the mark.
Another long week beckons. Roll on, United vs. Arsenal!
BTW, If we drop points, we are a debacle, and our players are piss poor.
But when mega bucks Chelski drop points, they are missing Ray Wilkins??? Haha. You have to hand it to the media.

  62. bchilds says:

I can see them being the long-term full backs at the club. My biggest concern with them was always their ability at defending but certainly Rafael has improved in this area so no doubt Fabio will do so likewise.

  63. gora says:

my first tym 2 comment but jeez seems we gonna hv a crackng season.glad arses won, hate playng an out of sorts big tim

  64. denton davey says:

Red Simmo @ 14:09: “With these two operating ‘roberto carlos’ like down the flanks, perhaps an enthralling 3-5-2 formation could be on the cards?”

You forgot to mention Cafu, who bombed down the other wing.

But your point is well taken – the way that the game is evolving among the best teams, a crowded central midfield three seems to be compensating for wing-backs who are often at the far end of the pitch. Certainly, that’s how Barca play – and RealMadrid, when they turn up to play with Marcelo racing down one wing and that thug, Sergio Ramos, charging forward down the othe one. When UTD have played best – most daring and entertaining – it’s when Evra/Nani drive the opposition nuts down the left while Tony Valencia hugs the right side-line and the right back fills in behind him. So, I think that on their good days, UTD already play some version of this formation.

The real isse in the formation you suggest is the “3″ – a comgination of Rio, Vidic, and Carrick seems to be the best set-up for this kind of strategy.

AND, I just can’t finish my post without saying “I TOLD YOU SO !”

Watching the RentBoyz yet again snatch a draw from the jaws of victory was sweet. Go back through the archives and you’ll see that in the darkest days of September I was writing (hopefully – not sagaciously) that the super-fast start to the season by CSKALondon was a mirage. I reckoned that this was going to be another version of BigFill’sFuckUp. And, dammit, I was right. No one – not even little old me – thought that the RentBoyz could possibly be out of the top four by the end of the year but – dammit, again – it’s looking possible. I’m thinking happy thoughts.

  65. willierednut says:

Looking at the way this premiership is going this season, I’d really think writing off anyone is a dangerous game. There’s some massive games to come before and after the festive time, get ready for a bumpy ride people.

  66. parryheid says:

Good day at the office and we didn’t even get in for the snow.Chelsea had Essien and Captain John back today,Only Frankie to return and their excuses are gone.

  67. RedScot says:

i wont post about Rafael, he is world class as we all know! i have said enough about him although would be easy to write about his supreme class as a United and Brasilian right back.
I will try to copy what I wrote tonight on another Blog, filled mostly bye idiots! lol
Fabio is only 20 years old, one year older than me.
He is tied to Manchester United to June 2014, having recently signed a new contract extension.
Fabio as recently as a game I was at, the Rangers match in Glasgow was voted man of the match on the evening and many United forums.
Having only played a handfull of games for United and slightly less than a third of said games in Europe. He is one for the future.
Carlos Queiroz( Erm think who he brought to United) had identified him to play for the full Portugal side having only captained the under 17s of Brazil. Kudos.
Dont destroy our young players, it makes no sense.

Anyone for a Tom Cleverley or Danny Welbeck?

  68. Kings says:

I can’t wait until next Monday when we play them overhyped twats at Old Trafford. Any win will do for me, but if we butcher them, then even sweeter. As for Chelsea, if we don’t come away from Stamford Bridge with at least a point on the 19th, I will be well pissed off. They will get turned over by Spurs next Sunday.

  69. Drew Vader says:

Willierednut — I agree that Phil had gone in late on Malouda twice leading up to it, but STILL, retaliation is retaliation and he fucking went into Phil when he was on the ground. How in the world he didn’t even get booked for it is beyond me.

  70. Wednesdayx says:

Rafael and Fabio bloody fantastic and gorgeous :) United has their full-backs set for the future.

  71. Always Be Closing says:

@redevil forever – nah fella, you just put the manutd.com website in the comment box under ‘website’, it comes up red for anyone that can be arsed to put a website in or has one to put in!

  72. kyith says:

they will never be world class until they mature in their decision making and passing >> http://manchesterunitedgauntlet.blogspot.com/2010/12/fabio-and-rafael-da-silva-as-first.html

but great backup and potential really.
