Always a bridesmaid, never a bride. Lionel Messi has come runner up to both Kaka and Cristiano Ronaldo for the top individual player awards but has yet to scoop one himself.
This week there has been much talk about the World XI he picked which included Rio Ferdinand and Wayne Rooney. However, Ronaldo’s name was missing. A tad bitter?
Then the following day, Robinho decided to have a pop. “The Brazilian Ronaldo is a phenomenon,” said Robinho. “Cristiano Ronaldo is a great player but he is not a phenomenon.”
The day after that, Ronaldo writes off his Ferrari and judging by the pictures, is incredibly lucky to escape unscathed!
Is there anything that could cheer poor Ronnie up this week?
Ahead of the FIFA World Player of the Year being announced next week, a fan poll has been taken across 185 countries in the World over who they believe is deserving. A massive 35% voted for Ronaldo with Messi in second with 17%.
Will he win the real prize on Monday?

I hope so, but he need some support from our fans specially when we meet the RentBoyz. a man with his skill will have more than enough support not from his club fans but from the whole country – messi against atletico – lets get on our all players backs, form Van der Sar to Berba specially Evra and Ronaldo..
viva ronaldo..
what is your thoughts on Tevez future and our young strikers’ future (Campbell, Welbeck and Brandy)..
I for one hopes Tevez stays, great player always scores crucial goals when given the chance. Been hearing about campbell for years but havent seen anything yet. havent seen much of welbeck and brandy (since i live in australia) to make a judgement yet.
Yes he will Scott!
Hopefully Cristiano wins.
Messi is yet another one who is severely overrated. An undoubtedly great player, but for all his ‘magical’ touch, he was unable to unlock a defence when it came to the crunch in a CL Semi.
Fat Ronaldo, too. Clinical as you like, but outside Brasil and Inter, who calls him ‘the phenomenon’? Several years cumulatively have been spent on the sidelines and he’s been fortunate enough to have remained fit for the duration of a World Cup every four years since ‘94, enabling him to take the Highest Scorer title.
Phenomenon? Pele was a phenomenon, as was Maradona, di Stefano, Besty and Cruyff. Ronaldo was almost there. But as the song famously goes, ” ‘Almost’ doesn’t count”.
‘Dinho had a better shot than he ever did.
Fuck Ronaldo. We can never support him like old times.
hope he wins it….he deserves it….and what icing on the cake to cap his individual accolades. Would be great for SAF, the players and our club too
I can’t be at the stadium on Sunday ( Washington, D.C. not exactly close) but hopefully he’ll get some love from the supporters. An account I read about the game on Wednesday says his name was barely heard from the crowd. He definitely needs some fan love this weekend.
redmojo: Sure I heard “viva Ronaldo” when he was warming up.
I won’t be able to come to Old Trafford for the chelsea game on Sunday, but those who will be there:
please PLEASE give Ronaldo all the support he needs… please cheer him when he appears on the pitch … we need to do whatever it takes for him to feel comfortable again…
whatever happened in the summer, it’s history now, but he is still OUR player … why should we punish OURSELVES, why should we give journos something to write about, like ‘mean-ingful’ stories about how ‘all is not well’ in our world…
there’s a time for everything, now is the time to show him our support
VIVA RONALDO !!
Wow, I’m surprised at the poll results, cus he seems to be disliked by a LOT of people.
Really OTRed? I’m having difficulty following your logic. But then even so, Ronaldo is the least disliked person of them all and he is disliked half as much as Messi is (or, in my interpretation of the facts, liked twice as much as him), to say nothing of the rest.
