What Do Mourinho And Ferguson Think Of The CL Draw?

Following the Champions League draw earlier today, which will see United face Inter Milan, old friends, as well as foes, Sir Alex Ferguson and Jose Mourinho have given their opinion on the tie.

Whilst Mourinho is quick to flatter his opposition, Ferguson does much of the same, whilst being sure to remind everyone of the luck Mourinho’s Porto had when knocking us out of the competition in the year they won it.

Jose Mourinho

“I am satisfied, I wanted the best and I have got the European champions who maybe in two days will be world champions. It is a team with the current Ballon D’Or winner, a great coach in Alex Ferguson and a stadium with a fantastic atmosphere. It will be unforgettable returning to Manchester. Some say I have a good record against Alex Ferguson but the record isn’t mine, it’s Chelsea’s.”

Sir Alex Ferguson

“It’ll be interesting to come up against Jose again. He’s a good character with a good personality and I’ve always got on well with him. He knocked us out of the competition when he was at Porto, so I hope we have the luck they had in that tie this time round! Playing against the bigger teams brings a better focus and concentration to our game as we showed against Barcelona last season. We knew the most important thing we had do in that tie was to concentrate and our concentration in both games was terrific. The San Siro is a great stadium to play in. We’ve lost two semi-finals to AC Milan there so we want to go there and do better. This is the stage when the competition gets going and I think all the English teams have a good chance. I’m happy with our draw”

This bloke is putting himself in the shop window to Mr Gill..

I dont know your opinions, but Carlos Querioz and Mourinho would be an excellent option for us when SAF finally calls it a day.

  2. djwackie says:

i think is a good draw for united we always perform better against big team

  3. Costas says:

I for one am glad that we got Inter instead of Real.We know how good Inter are now but we wouldn’t know how Ramos would alter Real’s play by February. On the plus side,it’s mouthwatering to have another Fergie-Mourinho battle. And if(that’s a big if) they knock us out we could always say we were knocked out by Mourinho and not Heinze.

  4. Anant says:

when sir alex steps down i’ll personally start a campaign bearing the title – ”SAY NO TO MOU” !

  5. King Eric says:

I have to say I agree with Failsworth on this. CQ and JM for the job when SAF retires. Just can’t see who else can do it. Martin o’Neill? Perhaps. I like the mutual respect these 2 managers have for each other. A cracking tie in prospect.

  6. Anant says:

martin o neill is a very good candidate , although CQ doesnt seem to have a good resume . david moyes should also be considered . if foreign managers are what the board are looking for – then lippi/ancelotti….dont get many better than them

  7. Red-Manc says:

I think Jose would be a good replacement went the god that is Fergie retires, but we’d need an assistant who could carry on the attacking football we’re known for because Jose has shown he can win titles and trophy’s but he doesn’t always have the team playing exciting football.

can you imagen the rent boys faces if Jose became our manager and we did the double over them again ;)

  8. Jake says:

not necessarily a foreigner but a portuguese speaking manager would be useful, mourinho and queiroz are good options

  9. devilinho says:

“SAY NO TO MOU” too, i think after SAF we should have someone from inside ofcourse not Phelan, but someone passionate about the club and know the hierarchy of the club and its traditions. and it would be ok even if he has not that experience, how about the king (Cantona) with Keane or Neville as assistant..
look at Barca, Pep does not have the enough experience to step out for that job, but he is doing pretty good, because he knows the club inside out, and has a zero tolerance when it comes to players performance in the trainong session and in the pitch, with Cantona we would have an already legend who is well respected from the players and the crowd which guarantee a high degree of confidence, plus he had offered himself to the job already which indicate that he is thinking about it all over the day and has a plans to apply.

    Go Cantona…

  10. Vic Vega says:

The San Siro (The san siro)
is never full! (is never full)
The san siro is never full,
    unless they’re PLAYING MAN UNITED!
the san siro is never full!!!!

beat them and we’ll get to the final. good one on one battles there too.
Berba vs Zlatan, Ronny vs Quaresma, Vida vs Samuel

  11. WoT says:

devilinho: Pep is only doing so well for the same reason that the seconds after the pain of smacking your toes into something feels so good – it’s psychological. Within a few seasons the tapes over the cracks that are always there at Barca will start peeling off, and then we’ll see what he’s like.

Cantona, Keane etc. have to prove that they have what it takes. Lippi’s as old as SAF is! How likely is it that he’ll take the job? Ancelotti is an outside chance (but I’d doubt his passion for the job), and O’Neill must either manage a big club or do something extraordinary with Villa – making Villa an alright team is not good enough. Moyes is a joke – how many times has he failed in Europe to even qualify.

Mourinho is clearly flirting with Utd, and what’s more is that SAF appears to be reciprocating. Personally, I wouldn’t mind him taking charge (as long as he achieves something with Inter): he’s great at taking the focus of the opposition off the important things and is the kind of twat who I’d love to see get under the skin of our opponents.

  12. dk says:

devilho… i ‘m sick and tired of hearing any united fans recommending a manager with no experience. Just because of them being a united legend doesn’t mean he must be our manager. hearing the likes of ole , keane , gary and cantona as replacement for SAF makes me sick. mark hughes, lippi , jose or Carlos are more reasonable choices.

  13. Red-Manc says:

mark Hughes would be the worst option! he cant even manage city, and the fact he went there makes me not want him.

the only player i would want would be Cantona the man is the King at Old Trafford and he could pull off something amazing, by the time Fergie retires Ole might be given a look in he’s already gaining experience at the moment with the reserves and doing a good job and he loves the club just as much as us.

If we gave Cantona a year or two i reckon he would be a fantastic manager at this club he loves United but he wouldn’t stay long he always likes to leave something when he’s on top. true legend.

Reckon it will be Jose or Lippi though realistically, my ideal choice in a dream world would be Cantona as manager Ole as assisant.

  14. Patrik says:

Mark Hughes, yeah he’s doing reeeeally well isn’t he? Eriksson did so much better with a lot less money, I’d prefer him over Hughes any day. The ultimate manager would be Hiddink, just look at what he’s done with PSV, South Korea and Russia for example. And his style of play fits United perfectly.

  15. denton davey says:

Hiddink is a good shout but the best option is for SAF to continue forever. Interestingly, his son Darren is doing a terrific job at Peterborough.

Inter are a strong team with a great striker in great form, at this moment; BUT late February is still two months away and a lot can change in the intervening time.

One of the so-far-unmentioned treats in store with the CL draw is that we all get a chance to bring our DirtyPatrick voodoo dolls out of the closet.

  16. SULLY [South Africa] says:

    Prince Keano

  17. themarkedman72 says:

guus Hiddink is an amazing coach.
He can get blood from a stone otherwise known as talent from an Australian football team. I am australian so I am allowed to say that we are industrious but tactically naive historically. Hiddink took us to the round of 16 and should have been further but for the cheating diving italians.
I would think he would be a good choice.
Mourinho has the personality, tactical and motivational acumen to suceed. Even if we hate him now we would love him after a year. (Maybe).
Still we have the job ahead now. Tough tie.

  18. TonyBee says:

Failsworth Devil: I agree with you, I think that Mourinho is the one for us as he has gotTa hate the fucking rentboys almost as much as we do. And that could just be what we need someone just like SAF who doesn’t fuck about knows the game and will stick it to those cheating blueshirted cunts at every oppurtunity

  19. TonyBee says:

Sorry Anant mate, got to disagree with you not wanting the Mou…. he,s by far the better man for us.

  20. Failsworth Devil says:

Thats it though lads, we gotta put our feelings aside and think whats gonna be best for the continuity of the team and whats best for the club.

Lets be honest, there really aint anyone that is gonna be good enough at the club now to take SAF’s job… nobody… and that aint me being disloyal.. thats me being honest… yes, ole and gary nev, giggsy, would be great to have on board in some capacity…

But we are gonna need someone with big balls, and defo aint shy or scared to take over SAF’s job.. and to be honest, Mourinho is that full of himself, it would actually be a good thing for us.. coz he is good at the “The world against us” attitude… just like what SAF instills in our players…

The fact that CQ knows the club inside out… and he also extremely good tactically is a major plus… and he knows how the clubs works, knows the players… would be brilliant..

Lets be honest here…. are we playing the attractive footie as we was last year?? No…

Dont get me wrong i think CQ has the personality of a weetabix… but he knows his game, and no he aint a good manager… but Mourinho would be the manager… and CQ can get on with the coaching..

CQ and JM are both portugese… we have a strong contingent of Portugese/Brazillian players… that again ideal…

We gotta look at whats best for the club… not what we are thinking with regards to whether we like them or not… the simple fact is that these would be an ideal pairing, when the transition is needed to go from SAF retiring to the next chapter..

Plus… the fuckin rentboys will loathe it… fuckin loathe it..

Another Plus… “Imagine all the weakpoints JM knows from within the Chelski ranks”…

I remember Chelski gaining a lot of info from a certain rat faced scum bag called Kenyon… and i imagine it could get some good info if JM came to OT after GOD retires.

Sentiment doesnt get you trophies… winning does… and i want us to win the UNITED way..

If someone else comes in.. they could rip the fuckin heart out of us… after all look what has happened to the dippers over the past 25 years…

Do you really want us to promote from within?? Well not me, if it has the same affect as what it had on the dirty scouse scallies..

I would rather put my sentiment aside, and have the best people on bored to keep our trophy cabinet full..

  21. ELiam says:

To be honest there is not better combination than Mourinho + Quieroz ;)

And forget about that ”His style wouldnt allow us to play the beautiful attacking game we love” – I think he is more that aware of that, and I think that he is a far too good of a manager, to not be able to adapt.

  22. ELiam says:

wow, couldnt have said it better.

Failsworth Devil – legend, a view most United fans should share in my opinion.

  23. Failsworth Devil says:

Plus another comment i wanna make on CQ and JM…. These guys are barely 50… you have the opportunity to have a secure management team in place for another 15 years…

  24. Anant says:

everywhere he has gone so far he’s not last more than a few seasons . the man thinks more about his personal career than his clubs . is that the man we would like succeeding sir alex?! he would probably walk out as soon as he wins a european cup with us , looking for a new challenge ! not for me . no .sorry.

also , my arguement is that our players would have got so accustomed sir alex’s old school british type mentality that similar managers like o’neill and moyes would fit the bill perfectly . just look at what they have done with their average-ish clubs . everton especially . what were they 7 years ago – relegation candidates ? and he would get sir alex’s vote too , being scottish .

hiddink – thats one name i thought i should have mentioned as soon as i posted previously . the guy is absolutely fucking genius!

  25. NorwegianDevil says:

Uhm anant. Just wanted to remind you that Rooney and Moyes can’t stand each other! And I think that the only way Rooney could ever leave us is if we brought in Moyes as a manager.

Besides Moyes has never won anything. We need a manager wo knows how to win, a manager who knows the pressure of expectations well.

O’Neil coped well at Celtic. Did his job well, won a few things. Got them to the final of the UEFA cup. Plays a similar football to SAF.
I’d say that when SAF retires we should go for O’Neil.

  26. Failsworth Devil says:

Anant, you go on about new challenges etc etc…. but there is no bigger challange than United…

The only time a manager would ever leave us, would be if they was pushed…

Like our players… u here them in interviews.. and they say if they ever left OT, they would be taking a step down..

I still stand by my prediction of CQ and JM, but if we was dead set on a British Manager… then the only option would be Martin O’Neil..

But i would prefer Jose Mourinho and Carlos Querioz coz of the reasons i stated above..

Hiddink is a good coach yes… but…. everywhere he goes, he seems to have all types of trouble with players… and we do not need anything like that happening during a transition period when GOD (SAF) finally hangs up the chewing gum for the last time.

  27. Whiteside10 says:

I’m convinced that Mourinho’s going to be our next manager, and there are enough good reasons previously stated as to why he’d be a good choice… in three years or so, over half our team will be Portuguese speaking (the Da Silvas, Anderson, Nani, Ronnie, Possebon), while our English contingent (Roo, Rio and Carrick) have all spoken highly of him… I couldn’t give a toss what the RBs think about this – let them carry on trying to be like United or Barca… And I don’t buy into all this ‘having an ex-player as manager’ bollox… I read a stat a couple of weeks ago that implied only Sparky had a half-decent record against United – I just think they’d all be living in Fergie’s shadow, which is the mistake that was made after Busby left…

  28. Failsworth Devil says:

Whiteside mate… you put that in exact the perfect context mate…

Good Comments… “Just like a left foot curler past “Big Nev” … good stuff.

  29. Anant says:

i totally agree with you on that failsworth….any move away from united is a step down…and the united challenge is the biggest any manager can face….but where you’ve got me wrong is ”newer” not ”bigger”…he strikes me as the type who would one day just pack up and decide that managing a national team is the next step in his career .
anyway , thats just my opinion , and , yeah , i am biased…i hate that cunt from his days at chelski…really used to push the limits at times .

well , luckily…that is not our main concern at the moment …and hopefully it wont be anytime in the foreseeable future

at least we all agree on one thing – AIG(alex is god)…and whoever takes over will have the toughest act in football management to follow!(pray its not another busby-mcguiness syndrome)

  30. socamad689908 says:

@ failsworth devil, wise words mate. I agree with all your comments, JM CQ would be a fantastic pairing, I’ve always thought the only person with the gonads to take over from SAF is JM. I know a great many of our fellow supporters hate his guts, but I beleive only in the way that they see some of SAF in him. Seige mentality like that of SAF, no better motivator of players, he WILL not take any bollocks of anyone. There are a great many of his countrymen playing for us. I think we should have GN, RG and Ole on the coaching staff, but lets face it I really dont think they would be able to step into SAF boots, not even MH, SB and Keano. JM and CQ or JM and an assistant who has been with the club for years could start a second twenty odd year reign, do we want to be chasing the title for 19 years like YSB, I know I fucking dont, been there and watched that mate for too many years.
We must take emotion out of this and think of building a new dynasty IMO.

  31. Red-Manc says:

Failsworth devil the next United manager! ;)

  32. Failsworth Devil says:

I wouldnt mind a go at the job red matey lol !!

  33. Failsworth Devil says:

I just about manage the muppets on our works team mate, so dont really think it would be wise putting me in charge of United… but i can always dream a dream lol…
