Patrice Evra joined Manchester United 10 years ago today, as a surprise signing from Monaco. He came as competition for Gabriel Heinze at left-back and while he didn’t immediately impress on the pitch, he quickly became a fans’ favourite.
It’s well known that he asked Gary Neville where the nearest church was when he first came to training. Neville was a bit confused and asked him why, and Evra responded that he wanted to thank God for letting him play for Manchester United.
Even now that he has left, it is clear he still feels a connection with the club. After the Champions League semi-final for his new club Juventus, Evra claimed he had United in his blood.
What United would give for a player like Evra signing for the club again this January.
