Yet again, United players seemed to be ignored when the shortlist was created.
I find it surpising that a side that won its domestic championiship plus the EC only had 4 players represented in the list.
The biggest shock has to be the exclusion of Ferdinand.
In years gone by, only Beckham has received the deserved recognision at this level. Whereas Keane, Schmeichel, Scholes – even Yorke & Cole in the glorious team of ’99 were overloooked.
If you consider Micheal Owen has picked up this award it is amazing the guys above have not even come close during their peak years.

  2. RedAlert260599 says:

Talking of Michael Owen, would it be worth Fergie taking a punt on him in January? We seem to be struggling to find the net away from home and he could be the answer. We need a goal poacher and we’d get him for next to nowt. (It’d be worth it just to p1ss the scousers off – just think, Owen scoring the goals that got us our 18th title, that’s torture for them.)

  3. Phil says:

Cant see Owen arriving. I think Fergie will want to try and settle the Rooney / Berba combo otherwise they will never get the chance to gel. that is not to say i wouldnt appreaciate a poacher of Owens quaility in the side.

  4. pet says:

Owen? who? well he passed prime,

  5. Stephen says:

    Er Rio?

  6. Liam says:

So Gerrard the captain of a team who won nothing, finished 4th in the league and didn’t even participate in The Euros, ranks higher than Vidic, one half of the best defence in the world. At a glance, Ribery, Aguero, Lampard, Ballack and Ramos deserve to be in front of him

  7. in moscow we made it 3 says:

the fact that rio wasnt in the shortlist is a joke, he is the best centre half in the world, why the hell is ramos there? coz he is young and wears white boots? And another shocker is the fact evra is no where to be seen…. whats going on?
Going to the point about Owen, i cant believe he has won the ballon d’our! I was going throught the list of players who have won it in the past and i still dont know how owen has won it. When u think of the likes of Giggsy, one of the greatest ever players in english footballing history winning more than any other footballer in this country and he has never won it. Not to mention Stam, Beckham, Keano, Scholesy, Cantona and Schmikes. Its just a joke how roanldo is the first united player in 40years to win it, saying that im am very glad he wiped the floor with everyone in the voting and won it. Lets just hope he gets the fifa one aswell

  8. jamos9 says:

As good a Goalkeeper a s Buffon is what did he acheive last year?? He’s just one of he obligatory votes as he’s world renowned I’d also stick Ballack in that category and Ramos…..No Ferdinand?? what a joke!!

  9. Stephen says:

How the fuck is Drogba in the top 30?! he was sent off in last years football club showpiece the ECF, scored 8 league goals and won fuck all, when Rio was by far the best defender in Europe last season lifted the league and European cup, it completly amazes me.

  10. suhayl says:

ITS true….with all the genius on show and the total domination utd showed over 2 decades..yet scholsey, keano and giggsy havent didnt even had a look in….and players with 1 % of their talents and acheivements did. WERE they not ‘CELEBRITY’ enough????????

And now you have the best centre half in the world RIO and the best left back in the world PAT both overlooked and didnt even make the 30…what a fuckin joke

  11. King Eric says:

Owen to United? Ya having a laugh surely. Can’t stand the over rated little shit, lives on that goal from France 98. I don’t think we need a poacher, in the seasons that Ruud was here we didn’t win a title . Don’t need him.

  12. Stephen says:

Er he won the Premiership title with us 02/03 season.

  13. King Eric says:

    course he did! sorry

  14. Phil says:

Although Rudd changed the focus and style of our team it was a period of transition and trophioes were tight, however you cannot dispute his quite unique scoring feats. His goals kept us up with Arsenal in their potentially most dominant period of the ‘invincibles’ Glad to see the back of him towards the end but will be classed as a goal scoring legend OT forever more in my eyes.
To think it was Ronaldo and Rudd arguing that helped seal his move away from OT – thankgod it wasnt Ronny who went!!
On last years form he is worth far more gaols per season than Rudd ever was, regardless if he is baggin them or laying them on.
A match winner of the highest order

  15. ellioman says:

Why isn’t Rio on this list?
He should have made it in top 10 in my opinion.
Without a doubt the best defender last season!

  16. Adam says:

No Rio, what a load of tripe. He deserves to be in the top ten at the very least.
