Manchester United are a top priced 1.91 with Betfred and Paddy Power to get their season off to a flying start with victory over Everton at Goodison and look bankers to do so.

Robin van Persie is in the squad after completing his £24m move from Arsenal in time, and the thought of him linking up with Wayne Rooney is a mouth watering prospect.

In him they now have the reigning footballer of the year and the runner-up to spearhead the attack and that is a frightening thought for any side they face.

Throw in the likes of Welbeck, Hernandez, Nani, Valencia, Young, Giggs, Kagawa and the side now has a formidable look with incredible options attacking-wise.

Vidic is also back, and that is a major boost to United’s back-line as he was sorely missed last season.

As far as the stats are concerned, Everton have won just one of the last 14 Premier League games against United (W1 D4 L9).

The Toffees are also habitual slow starts and have a record of two wins, one draw and seven defeats on the opening day under David Moyes.

Throw in the fact that United won 13 on the road last season – the highest in the PL- and you can see why they are worthy odds-on shots to bag all three points.

Of course the big question will be whether Robin van Persie is in the starting line-up.

I think the Dutchman will get a start, and bookmakers can split him and Rooney in the first goalscorer market.

Both are joint favourites at 5.5 with bet365 and Betfred to break the deadlock, and Wazza comes into this having scored 14 goals in his last 14 Premier League games.

He has also netted 10 times in his last nine PL games in August, but even allowing for those impressive stats I find it hard to split him and RvP in this market.

However I don think that the Dutchman is a good price at 2.3 with bet365 to make a dream start in a United shirt and score anytime if he is in the starting XI.

In the correct score market, United to win 2-0 or 3-0 is my idea of the outcome and those scores can be backed at 8.5 and 15 with bet365, Boylesports and Paddy Power.
