Where’s The City Ticker Gone?

Those of you at the Valencia friendly on Wednesday may have noticed that the Manchester City ticker, which counts how many years they have gone without a trophy, was missing.

Stretford End Flags have released an announcement today to confirm that its absence was simply due to it being updated, after City have just finished another season empty-handed.

The banner will be back for our first game of the season against Birmingham.

  5. Red Connor says:

Glad to hear the City Ticker will be back onsite for the Brum game. I’m over from Derry for the game, what time should I be at the Blaize to stand a chance of getting in pre-match?
By the way Scott, fantastic site, keep up the good work. You brighten up my long days at work!!!!

  6. dctid66 says:

And old bacon face call us a small club who is obsessed with united – enjoy fella because the double atandards and hypocrosy are clear for all to see – at least we him rattled.

remember now if you answer that ill just say your obsessed with united.

  10. Abhay_RedDevilTillDeath says:

    @Jay

A little careful careful with your posts mate…. How tough can it be to write Man Utd or just United….lets cut out the ‘Man U’ crap from next time…

  11. Micky says:

    @Jay

I seen your post and was gonna give you a hard time, but then I thought better – just know your history if you’re gonna call yourself a United fan

    On topic:

    FUCK OFF CITY

  12. aig alex is god says:

ha ha.brilliant.why dont we put a board besides saying how many years have gone wen united have won nothing.cnt remember many 2005.thats the only year i can remember im the recent past.and for al those shitty cunts who feel fergie is rattled let me remind u that he has seen it bfre and cme may next yeas u he wil leave u rattled

  13. Micky says:

    @dctid66

    We’re obsessed with City?

Just remind me what you’re doing on a Man Utd blog again?

  14. dctid66 says:

Real Madrid can do what they want – Man Ure can do what they want – have as many tickers and flags as you wish – it is funny though when old bacon face goes off on one when lickle old city put up a poster – for maximum effect we should have put it up on the M25 orbital i guess – as i said double standards

  15. dctid66 says:

it appears on news now man city feed you rag plonker – think my comments are apt after old bacon faces comments about the recent Tevez poster comments – as i say double standards and hyprocisy

  16. Scott the Red says:

dctid66 – who pays for the City ticker? The FANS. Who paid for the Tevez campaign? The CLUB.

If Sir Alex Ferguson was organising ways to wind up City, paying money to do so, that would be hypocritical. As it is, your club is so small they fork out thousands in a bid to wind United fans up. Like I’ve said time and again, if your fans turned up with a banner or spray painted that Tevez thing, it would be fairly amusing. The fact your club did it is just desperately sad and embarrassing.

It really is puzzling that you would think this was an example of hypocrisy and double standards. Not the brightest bulb eh.

  17. fUnKy AlLiGuNkY says:

Does this jackass (dctid66) know that the ticker is not put up by the club but by the fans(SEF)..?

  18. South Stand Al says:

Scott the Red – well said. Hit nail on head. dctid66 – you really are jealous of our success – get over it.

  19. Stephen says:

dctid66, what are you a comedy genius did you think that up all by yourself?, unoriginal prick.

  20. Tony Starks says:

    dctid66

Get lost this place is not for you

  21. dctid66 says:

What about another ticker at COMs reflecting how the Man Ure debt is increasing – funny as fook – dont matter who pays for the tiker you rag the club allows it to be displayed therefore it is an approved Club tiker – as i say double standards by baconface – bit like last year when he had a go at Benitex about being diesrpetful about Everton – double standards again – nice to see red nore rattled because he dont waster his breath on a club that he aint worried about

  22. FailsworthDevil says:

The last time Citeh won a cup, fuckin Robin Hood nicked it on the way back…

    34 years… fuck off

    34 years… fuck off

    Blue nose knobwanks.

  23. Adopted Scouser 10 says:

@ jay, dont write that again. But it seems you are new here. The correct names are what ghtt, retro riley and abhay_reddeviltilldeath said.

  24. dctid66 says:

Failsworth – did you make that one up all by yourself – massively massively impressed – you must be one of the most inrtelligent people in Failsworth

  25. WHO says:

    Brilliant

City are shit and thats a fact.

  26. Stephen says:

We are shitting ourselves, Adebayor, Tevez and Santa Cruz what was it 19 league goals between them last season?

  27. Scott the Red says:

dctid66 – The club have nothing to do with the banners on the Stretford End. The fans organisation, Stretford End Flags, sort them out. The club certainly don’t PAY for our banners. In contrast, your club paid thousands of pounds in an attempt to wind us up. I can’t think of a more blatant example of small club mentality than that.

If your tiny little mind can’t grasp the difference between actions by the fans and actions by the club, then there’s no point in this discussion continuing any further.

  28. doncobaino says:

34- ronnie biggs was on the run for less…

  29. South Stand Al says:

Its fans like dctid66 – that make each success we have all the sweeter! Empty seats again this year I reckon in spite of your spending!

    Then again:
Man City to make £50m bid for Newcastle United supporters
Premier League billionaires Manchester City have today launched an audacious bid for the entire fan base of recently relegated Newcastle United.
The unexpected move has come as part of City’s plans to be the best supported club in the world, and the so-called ‘Best Supporters In The World ™’ have provided a logical starting point.
The move will see each of Newcastle United’s 50,000 ‘regulars’ offered £1,000 to change their allegiances to Manchester City.
“Our competitive advantage is our financial position, and we will buy anything and everything we feel will help us improve this football club.” Said City boss Mark Hughes.
“Securing the Newcastle United fans offers us a great opportunity to improve our position as the best supported club in the league,”
“They have just the sort of experience we’re looking for, in that they’ve enjoyed fleeting periods of great expectation followed almost immediately by abject failure, which will be useful to us in the next two years.”

    Unlimited funds
Hughes continued, “We’ll happily pay top dollar for supporters who will blindly follow their team and defend them as the greatest in the world in the face of over-whelming evidence to the contrary.”
“And in that respect, the Geordies really are second to none.”
The Newcastle fans, who will not be subjected to a medical, are expected to have a ‘fully clothed at all times’ clause inserted into their Man City contracts.
A Newcastle spokesperson said that although the move has come at a bad time for them, the entire fee will be used to rebuild the supporter base into a slimmer, better looking unit which they hope will be “the envy of the Championship”.

  30. Retro Riley says:

    Ha! Ha!

Why dont you change your user name from Citytillidie to Citytillwewintheleague, its the same thing

  31. Dani says:

    @dctid66

Man Chitty spent so much money for a team that won’t even play Europe. The most sucessfull thing for you guys was get Tevez, while he keep saying he love United fans, RIGHT IN YOUR FACE…

And we are obsessed with you? Why should we worry about you? We’re never scared, specially against a small team with 6 strikers.

Stop with the drugs before posting, bro.

  32. gotta hate tiny tears says:

    dctid66
i found your comment very funny and i felt a little bad for you
if you see that banner you taught the club did it because your bitter little club spent money on the tevez poster which was ment to say you were the true club in manchester blah blah bah but it made city look so small to even real football loving city fans-not ones with tea towels on there head who some how can believe berbatov is the greatest player in the world in the evening and think he’s shit 6 hours later
    Stretford End Flags -google them-
now old bacon face wasnt funny the first time but the more you used it the more proud you sem to be of it which, once again, makes me pity you
but if he was asked about stoke he’d answer about stoke
if he’s asked about united he’d answer about united
same goes for asking about city
let the papers print what answers they want
but friday mutv at 5 oclock from here on to may the managers press conference is on
watch it and form your own opinion not the one the mirror wants you to read

  33. kippax says:

37 years without a trophy is united’s record, city are stiil playing catch up, remember your history lads!

  34. Micky says:

Lads, just ignore him. Bookmark this page, then come back in May and we can just laugh.

  35. wiuru says:

    @dctid66

Lost count of how long the ticker has been there, now all of a sudden its double standards ?

Debt at least we generate revenue to service the same .

And you wonder why your known as Bitters !

  36. kiko_mac says:

Hahaha bitters coming onto a United site to say that fergie is rattled, I think the fact that your on a manchester united site proves that its all yous bitters that are rattled!

Small club, Small mentality, small minded.

The only thing big about Manchester City is all your arseholes, by getting fucked up the ass like little bitches by a rich arab, just to get the scrappings from his table or might i say rohypnol.

Just because a whore gets fucked by a rich man, does not make her out to be a supermodel!

    34 years………

  37. jmc says:

city may have some empty seats in their stadium but at least the most of the people sat there have been true supporters for years.

at old T half the crowd wouldnt have a clue if you mentioned Lou Macari or Gerry Daly to them

  38. Paul the red says:

we got some bertie magoo’s on…

    34 years…. wow

i aint even 34 yet….. all i have ever known is ciddy being rubbish.

    maybe one day lads

  39. gotta hate tiny tears says:

in 76 that much is true

  40. Micky says:

Can someone remind me of City’s preseason form?

After all, it’s the results that matter.. You can come crawling on here looking for reactions but at the end of the day, you’ve failed to win 90% of your preseason games and your superstar Tevez injured himself falling over in the bath!

MY OLD MAN SAID BE A CITY FAN
    I SAID BOLLOCKS YOU’RE A CUNT
I WOULD RATHER SHAG A BUCKET WITH A BIG HOLE IN IT
THAN BE A CITY FAN FOR JUST ONE MINUTE

    34 YEARS FUCK OFF

  41. Paul the red says:

shall we and this now????? scott will you put up the honours list for all to see. i would do it but i should be working!!

  42. jmc says:

    city

    won 1
    draw 2
    lost 2

    failed to win 80%

your old man should have made you go to school

  43. South Stand Al says:

…yeah failing to win ONLY 80% is something to brag about! lol

  44. gotta hate tiny tears says:

but they won 20% of there games
    they’re gonna win the league
    bollox
    they’re gonna win the league
    bollox

  45. jmc says:

in what way did you read my comment to deduce an element of bragging?

  46. Micky says:

    @JMC

Such a big fan, you don’t know your own teams results

    From the City site itself:

Sat 18 Jul 14:00 A Orlando Pirates Vodacom Challenge L

Tue 21 Jul 19:00 A Kaizer Chiefs Vodacom Challenge W

Sat 25 Jul 14:00 A Kaizer Chiefs Vodacom Challenge L

    Sat 01 Aug 15:00 A Barnsley Pre-Season Friendly D

    Wed 05 Aug 19:45 A Rangers Pre-Season Friendly L

  47. Jack says:

    haha jmc got owneddddddddddddd…quality micky

  48. sshhhhh says:

I love that f@*kin banner, yeah it’s been years since we have won anything and we’re still here in our thousands. Wonder what would happen if you lot went years without success… oh yeah, you’d find the next shiny band wagon to jump on!

  49. jmc says:

As City have not won anything for 33 years now at least we can assume that blues are not gloryhunting fans

In the fergie era your crowds have gone up from about 45,000 to 75,000.

that suggests that about 30,000 are just there cos you win things

thats not far off half of your crowd

this explains the lack of passion shown by a large proportion of your fans at the majority of your home games

  50. kiko_mac says:

    @jmc

heres a tissue to wipe that egg of your face, you bluenose twat!

  51. Micky says:

    @JMC

    You’re a retard.

First you don’t know your own teams’ preseason results.

    Now you’re saying it’s 33 since you last won a trophy. It’s 34.

  52. kiko_mac says:

    @jmc

when fergie took over the attendance of old trafford stood at 45 odd thousand! since then old trafford has been expanded to 75,000

you should think before you write you stupid cunt!

  53. Jack says:

so your trying to say our fans are glory hunters jmc? we get trophies etc so were not hunting :)

  54. Paul the red says:

    @jmc………

    WTF

when fergie took over the ground only took 45k.. as we have built it bigger it fills out every week… and also i do believe when we were sent down a division back in the old standing days we STILL got bigger gates than you did???

  55. Retro Riley says:

    Bunch of Bouncing Busby Babes!

  56. FailsworthDevil says:

Of course i am intelligent… in a red… unlike u blue nose turnips..

FFS how the hell can a blue question my intelligence lol..

    34 years… fuck off… 34 years… fuck off..

Wolves have had more success than Citeh..

John O’Shea has won more things in his career than what Citeh have in there whole history… “oops”… “What history???” hahahahahaha…

Oh yeh, they go on about no reds in Manchester… well 71000 for a friendly… now i know we have an estimated 330 million fans worldwide… but dont tell me that the vast majority of fans at OT on weds for the Valencia game wasnt from Manchester …

Also, Citeh go on about our fans not from manchester, yet the blue nose wank shits go on about wanting to dominate world football, and be a world brand… so surely that is pot calling kettle aint it??

Anyway its a no brainer, Citeh will never be as big as us, they dont have the glamour, dont have the fan base, and never will have, and most importantly dont have the history..

If Citeh try and step on the elites toes, then the old G14 will just create there own superleague and then Citeh will be left to play Middleton Rangers in Heaton Park…

    Blue nose tossers..

Citeh band on about, well especially Agent Hughes, about these “World Stars” thats you have signed..who in fact??? You have signed B listers..

Tevez wasnt a regular in the United team and never would be… yes he was a grafter, but not a prolific goalscorer and not fit to clean Wazza’s boots..

Adebayor wasnt 1st choice at Arsenal anymore, and they wanted to offload him all summer, and the big team wasnt prepared to pay the money Citeh were prepared to pay..

You blue twats have overpaid for average players, and would prob put you on level par with Spurts, but i suppose thats a big jump for you blue cunts.

  57. South Stand Al says:

right we could have had more than 45,000 just our stadium at the time was not big enough – it was full to capacity. Nice try but it is not like we had 75,000 and could not fill them.

Whereas you have 48,000 seats and unless you play us can not fill them – yet allegedly Manchester is full of City fans…..

  58. jmc says:

    hold my hands up mickey

without referring to websites i thought fist game was 0-0 but now recall we lost

does that make me not a big fan

season ticket for 33 years (yes season after we last won trophy)

watched city away hundreds of times at over 70 grounds

attended every derby match at home and away for 30 years (until last season at Old T – always said i would stop going after seeing us win a league match there)

  59. gotta hate tiny tears says:

  79. kiko_mac says:

    @jmc

When United won the league in 1956, they had the highest average home attendance in the league, a record that had been held by Newcastle United for the previous few years.

Following the Munich air disaster in 1958, more people began to support United and many started to go to matches. This caused United’s support to swell and is one reason why United have had the highest league attendances in English football for almost every season since then, even as a Second Division side in 1974–75.

In fact, for two of the seasons that United did not have the league’s largest attendance, Old Trafford was undergoing major building work (1971–72 and 1992–93)

Following hillsborough all stadiums had to have all seaters which dropped attendances everywhere. Though this was brought in 1990, during Fergusons time but before that, every game was packed to the rafters, i know because i was there!

Because our level of support was so great it then was extended to 55,000, then to 68,000 and now to 76k+

    And the facts!

Manchester Citys Average Attendance in the last 60 years!

  85. Blue Moon says:

this JMC prick just makes City fans look bitter and clueless. I for one am not bitter, I am honest. I did sing bad songs about Tevez. Can’t believe he cost 25 million for 5 goals. Can’t see him living up to the hype. Some of the more retarded group of City fans think we’ve got one up on United when you lot didn’t want him that badly.

  86. Paul the red says:

    love it lads.

well done. 3 heads are better than 1

  87. Micky says:

Now how the hell do we get it sung? haha

  88. kierron says:

firstly this show up on the city newsnow, ( far from looking to talk about united ) rather than slagging city for being a small club, how many BIG players have united attracted this window OWEN haha dont make me laugh, Valencia haha how fun !! ronaldo gone, tevez yes tevez the player the fans loved 2 months ago, fergie sign him up !! rememba that 1 i do.
city are making good signings any honest supporter would admit that.

of course us city fans are loving the money, BIG players and hopefully success but we also no it takes time, and the stadium doesnt always get filled but sometimes they cap the tickets to 44,000 and say sold out with big gaps in the stands, i fucking hate the way the stadium is ran but thats the council for you, city fans no we have problem in the team and fuck me were used to no trophies but we WILL win something. city can only get better cos we have been to the bottom, united can only get worse cos they have lived at the top. interesting season for city and united !! can we achieve something ?? can united maintain success now ronaldo has has gone ?? we will soon see ! also personally i couldnt care less about how united do untill we are challenging united for honours.

  89. gotta hate tiny tears says:

    @blue moon
you should do p.r. for manchester city football club
anytime there are tits on this that talk like city are gonna win 4 trophys next season
you come on here and have a smart football conversation

  90. Mic says:

I don’t see why we don’t have them premade for the next 5 years, it’s just a given that City won’t win a trophy.

  91. Blue Moon says:

I come on this site because there isn’t a decent City blog anywhere and half the City fans are making twats out of themselves on this blog.

What’s your predictions for Sunday and where do you honestly, honestly think City will finish.

  92. theboogeyman says:

10th or below,Blue Moon.Unless Hughes gets the squad to gel together, that is(Highly unlikely in my opinion.).Then they may finish in the top 8,or even top 4.

  93. Stephen says:

It will go to penalties on Sunday, and City will probably finish 6th or 7th in my view.

  94. Micky says:

    @Blue Moon

Gonna be tough against Chelsea now, but Ancelotti won’t have worked wonders quite yet. A United win, maybe 1 or 2 nil. I can see Chelsea possibly grabbing one if Evans fails to handle Drogba.

Depending on how Arsenal do, City will finish 4th or 5th at best. I can’t see you pushing past us, Liverpool or Chelsea for the time being. You’ll maybe fight a battle with Arsenal and Villa for the 4th, 5th and 6th positions.

  95. kiko_mac says:

The bitters often remind us that, we do not play our games in Manchester, so ive just typed into google manchester football nothing else!

Click on the link below to check out the results

    http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=manchester+football+club&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-GB:official&client=firefox-a

Result- Google recognises FCUM as a club before city!

  96. Mark the Devil says:

Afternoon Blue Moon. Well i honestly think city won’t finish in the top 4. You’ve signed some good players but not great one’s. Lets be honest they are there for the money, so you have to question their attitude and desire towards the team. If hughes can get some kind of performance out of them, you’ll finish between 7 to 10. April 25th 2009 FCUM 1 Bradford PA 1.

    @blue moon

Its weird hearing a sensible city fan! But to be honest if i were a city fan i would be worried!!

Right enough you have got alot of money coming in but remember the arab does not own city outright, he is a majority shareholder aka controlling interest. The more money he pumps into transfers, the more the club need to succeed in order for the other shareholders not to lose money, because he is using personal funds for the transfers, the wages come out of Man citys kitty!

Its not his personal fortune either! His personal fortune is not in the billions as the media makes out! According to Forbes he is not even in the top 100 of worlds richest men!

Granted he has access to billions of pounds but that money is not his, its the United Arab Emirates money! His view was to build a team for the UAE and there is no better place than the premiership because he wants to promote his country as the best in the world at everything and because the football league in UAE is dire he has no choice but to go abroad and as i said there is no better coverage than our league!

His view is to turn Manchester City into the best team in the world, so he can turn around and say Manchester City is owned by UAE! the UAE have the best football team in the world and in turn attracts tourist attention to the UAE which means billions of dollars for their economy!

City fans forget that and brag about buying everything but you know yourselve that Manchester City will never be as big as Manchester United regardless of how much money you’s spend!

Your other shareholders want to make a profit but i cant see how that will happen if your majority shareholder is spending more money than the club is worth! If i were a city fan, i wouldnt be worried about Fergie says about your club. I would be more worried about what your sugar daddy is doing to your club, because if he leaves 2maro, you’s are doomed!!

You might bite back saying we are in millions of pound in debt, but the money we generate can service the debt, plus the way our debt works is that hedgefunds purchase the debt through Glazers Holding Companies and in turn glazer pays them interest on holding their money, kind of like an endownment policy!

But if i was a bitter i would be worried, but since im not, im delighted, spend as much as your hearts are content to get to where you’s really belong……… The Conference!

  104. Drew Vader says:

Bluemoon — I think it all depends on the your first 5 games. If they go well, you lot might start believing and decide to work together for the cause and could push on and do well. If however, things don’t go to plan, the egos and the bitching and moaning and in fighting about not getting playing time will destroy any chance you have… I can see you finishing 6 or 7th. Which, honestly, with all the money you spent, is a disgrace.

  105. sean says:

Just thought I’d share this. Went to a curry at work the other day with colleagues, mostly women-not particularly interested in football. There were 3 blokes-2 City-me and another, and 1 United-and the red spent most of the meal trying to wind us up about City-he failed, we’ve heard it all before. Near the end of the meal, one of the women said,’How can you tell a Utd fan? He’s the one talking about City’.

    We didn’t mention United once.

And you call us bitter-incredible. And why am I looking at a United site? Well there is a link to it on the City page on Newsnow.

Exile red 17:13-that game was in the AutoWindscreens Cup. Nobody wanted to be in that tournament. You don’t score any points with that one. Try again.

  110. exiledred says:

Sean – the point is that citeh fans spout on about being the best and most loyal fans in the land. How Utd wouldnt have such a big following if they went years without success. How all citeh fans come from Manchester and Utd fans are from Guildford/Dorset/London – pick whichever suits your latest rant.

Fact: Utd have had the best attendance record in this country for years – long before Fergie took charge. Long before winning the Premiership was a habit. Long before you were probably out of nappies.
Fact: The majority of Utd’s match-going fans *do* come from Manchester. We just happen to attract fans from all over the planet as well.
Fact: Your support is crap. The “selective piffle” was a bit of fun but was just 1 illustration of countless occasions where your so-loyal fans have gone missing.
Fact: Utd fans are talking about citeh right now cos we’re just so looking forward to the moaning from Wastelands when you make such absolute dicks of yourselves after spending all this money.

Perhaps next time you should stick to talking to the ladies about bags, shoes and the latest shade of lippy – sounds more up your street to me….

Blue Moon Said,August 7th, 2009 @16:29 this JMC prick just makes City fans look bitter and clueless. I for one am not bitter, I am honest. I did sing bad songs about Tevez. Can’t believe he cost 25 million for 5 goals. Can’t see him living up to the hype. Some of the more retarded group of City fans think we’ve got one up on United when you lot didn’t want him that badly.

What sort of Blue are you?
    Sucking up to reds.

Tell me one dishonest thing I have said.

I have not made a comment on how good Tevez is.
But Fergie thinks he’s quite good because he signed him on loan and then tried to buy him – so he must be half decent.

I have pointed out to some reds that when Fergie came their ground was not full everyweek.
Some of them blame that on building up the stadium but that is bollocks. He came pre Hillsborough and united didnt start building until a few years later. any decent Man utd fan on here who supported united at that time will back me on this. No club filled grounds then.

  115. Drew Vader says:

You didn’t say anything about United once, eh Sean? Well, pardon my french, but what the fuck COULD you say?

  116. Drew Vader says:

I hate to agree with jmc, but he is right…. IF united were to go three, maybe four years without winning the league, I don’t think we would fill our 70 thousand seats. Which is why I am baffled when I hear people advocating increasing the size to 90K.

    Manchester United v Arsenal

    attendance: 83,260

and remember maine road was the wembley of the north at the time!

  119. sean says:

micky -the story indicated that we are no more bitter than you..the comment wasn’t from me but a female colleague who doesn’t support City or United.

Kilo mac-it is selective. our crowds whilst in the championship and below were very creditable and to highlight that one game is not an accurate portrayal of our attendances during that period. I repeat, the club had no interest in that competition, neither did the fans. In fact I’m surprised we got 3,000. I’m not saying we have the best fans in the world but our crowds aren’t bad considering we haven’t won anything for a long time and we compete for support with you. I could say United had 25,000 or 30,000 for league games in the late 1980s-what would that mean? That your crowds are the same as Derby? Of course not.

Exiled red-well, your post contains so many cliches I can’t be bothered to respond to each one. The fact that I can I speak to my female friends without boring them witless, and no we didn’t speak about lipstick once, seems to me a positive thing.

I haven’t criticised United, despite your post and it’s arguments. I support City and defend them, you support United and defend them-but calm down and enjoy the season without these boring attacks and leave out the cliches please!

  120. kiko_mac says:

    i posted this earlier

    @jmc @drew vader

Hello? It was the Auto Windscreens Cup! Like anyone would want to watch their team play a match like that – it’d scar…
That same season City drew a good 30,000 for each home match – and that was in the old Division 2.

I reckon there are a hell of a lot of unrealistic expectations for City this season, top 4 is maybe pushing it a little. I’ll just be happy to see them in the top 8 or so. For the amount of money that’s been spent, a climb of 2 spots shouldn’t be asking too much. Mind you, it’s City.

United will probably clinch the title again this season. Can’t see Arsenal posing a huge threat to you lot, there doesn’t seem to be anything happening there, and Chelsea still need to adjust to Ancelotti. As for Liverpool, they’ve lost some good players (and however much they’ve convinced themselves that they’ll finish higher than United, I doubt this’ll be the season they do it).

  132. billyb says:

genuine question. I’m not a united fan but would be interested to know why you dont like your club being called man u?

yes we have 1968 41 years ago

but i support city any way

    would you keep supporting united
is winning things the reason for supporting your team?
    not for most football fans
we do it because we love our club whatever

  139. James says:

Referring back to a previous comment about the fans paying for that obsessive ticker; Is that because your club’s so saddled with debt they can’t afford it? You call us bitter, you say you don’t care, yet half of your nursery rhymes are about us and you’ve got that ticker. Better savour it, it’s not gonna be there much longer.

  140. jmc says:

what city fans think that because our club is now very rich we are bigger than united.

most city fans i know are just enjoying the ride but know city too well to actually start thinking we might win things

do you think you are a better fan Jish just because your team wins things?

  141. Scott the Red says:

James – Do you enjoy laughing at things? Do you have a sense of humour? Did you think it was funny when we got bought the Glazers and were saddled with debt? The City fans I knew found it hilarious.

Well, as United fans, we find it funny that our local rivals haven’t won a trophy in over three decades. For all your talk of Munich and being the “only team in Manchester”, your football team haven’t won ANYTHING for years. You’ve got to be 40 to actually remember your team winning anything. That’s funny.

So, the fans having a banner which takes the piss out of City isn’t obsessive or bitter – it’s banter, something football fans should be familiar with.

  142. gotta hate tiny tears says:

    jmc my maths was wrong
but to answer your question if united didnt win anything i wouldnt support them im only in it for the glory
    everyone here knows that

and i know cantona used to play for them

  143. gotta hate tiny tears says:

    jmc
    you talk alot of bollox
i just taught you’d like to hear bollox

  144. James says:

Scott The Red: Yes, I am fully aware with the concept, however we get labelled the same whenever we do something similar (see: Tevez banner, United free for 100 years etc etc) we’re labelled as bitter blues obsessed with United. I just find it irritating to be honest. Yes, I wasn’t born when we last won a major trophy, I’ve only been consciously supporting City since the Div2 season (best to start out low and work your way up eh) but I’m happy that we can once again compete with the big boys and leave the laughing stock status to the barcodes.

  145. gotta hate tiny tears says:

    james mate
its the difference between fan made
    and club made
as i pointed out earlier city fans had an anti tevez chant now they have a pro one
fans can do and say what they want and get away with it
but your club spent a shit load of the kaka money to pay for the tevez poster

  146. James says:

    gotta hate tiny tears

I never took part in singing that Tevez song, because I agreed with the bloke in front of me; he’ll be our player next season. Found it cringeworthy to be honest. Of course, now he’s our player, I will happily sing a new song about him, with no reference to United or Munich (I abhor such songs, taking the piss out of a fatal accident in which one of our own died is quite frankly disgraceful)

Also, I reckon Kaka wasn’t all about getting (or not as the case was) the player; it gave us huge amounts of publicity around the world (it may have been partly bad publicity, but any publicity is good publicity). It showed the world that we aren’t fucking around and was a real signal of intent. I think after the dust settled however, it was probably for the best that he didn’t sign. I’m glad that we’ve spent similar money to that which we would’ve spent on a single marquee signing, moulding a strong side. Of course, getting back to money, I’m sure you wouldn’t mind not being owned by the bank?

  147. Scott the Red says:

James – Your CLUB paid for the Tevez poster to wind up United fans. That’s not fans getting involved in a bit of banter. It’s a CLUB forking out thousands of pounds to pay an advertising company in London to create a campaign with the sole intention of winding up United fans (there were no posters for Adebayor, Santa Cruz etc.). I dunno what you City fans say about it in private, when not trying to be billy bigballs on a United blog, but I would be utterly ashamed if my football club was getting involved in shit like that. It’s SO small club. Are you not embarrassed that your CLUB (not fans) have nothing better to do with their time? I bet Garry Cook was pissing himself. Makes me cringe.

But don’t get ahead of yourself. You went a step backward under Hughes last season compared with what Sven achieved, so wait and see how you do at the end of this season. If you spend that amount of money and don’t make top 6, you will be a laughing stock. The pressure is on. Is Mark “Munich bastard” Hughes the man to take away your laughing stock status? We’ll see…

  148. LRNM says:

United are rattled. Its visable. Bluemoon get from out their arse.

  149. gotta hate tiny tears says:

    james
i agree with you with the songs but not about the player i never wanted
    fergie to sign him up
and not been a united fan i wouldnt say your on this site alot but look back if you wish i never ever taught he was close to what his hype makes him out to be
manchester united where in the running to win 5 trophys last season
3 trophys i semi final and one final
and a striker at this top team scored 5 goals in the top league
is shocking that they wanted another 25 million on top of 10 united already spent
i have mutv and i wouldnt say you do but i knew about this kid kiko because of mutv before the villa game
but after the sunderland game this nobody in english football after scoring 2 winners with only 42 mins of first team football under his belt
at that point tevez had 3 after 23 games
by that ratio kiko would be worth double the kaka bid
    his attitude sunk
and as i seen the way he acted at the end of west hams season he only played and tried for himself to make everybody notice him
when it came to pass united wouldnt pay over the odds for him he scored his other 2 goals for the season and did nothing but disrespect manchester united and sir alex ferguson off the pitch

  150. James says:

    Scott the Red
Again, it’s all about exposure. How many articles did you see about that billboard? It got rednose talking, in a Rafa-style outburst. It made us laugh. It’s not small club, it was a bit of fun on the club’s part and it just stoked up the rivalry within the city, which is a good thing as far as I’m concerned.

Re. Mark Hughes – Did you have to add the aka to the middle of his name? Bloody hell, I already said I hate that crash being referred to. As for his aptitude to the job; I don’t know. I agree, we went backwards under him last year but remember that for the whole preseason we were skint, had Thaksin as a chairman and in general it was a whole season of upheaval. We’ll see this year, yes.

  151. gotta hate tiny tears says:

you say you love your club

  152. gotta hate tiny tears says:

100+million bid for kaka does get you noticed in world football but noticed as a joke
the tevez poster got you’s noticed but noticed as small and petty
and 1 win in your pre season has got some notice aswell

  153. James says:

    gotta hate tiny tears,

Our club is anything but a joke in world football, we are being taken seriously; take off your red tinted specs just for a second. Am I not allowed to share an opinion from my own perspective once in a while? And as previous posters have said, I found my way here via NewsNow, it’s not as if I come on here on a regular basis. Why would I need to fight to get pride back in my club? I’m extremely proud of it as it is.

  154. gotta hate tiny tears says:

i dont wear red tinted glasses
did i not just say i never wanted tevez
ya think someone with red tinted glasses last season wanted that
your club is losing pride and its a joke
players or city made world class players(?) are using your club for money
united lost out on benzema because he wanted to play for madrid
if we’d of offered him a shit load of money he would of come here
but why would we want someone at our team ho wants to play for pay day and not match day
    benzema is one player
city are building a team of these players
thats a joke in world football
how can you not see that

  155. Scott the Red says:

James – are you being serious? You’re comparing Ferguson calling City a small club after being asked what he thought about the poster with Benitez showing up at a match day press conference with a list of ‘facts’ about another manager? Come on, how deluded are you lot? Fergie’s lost the plot!!! Ha ha haha! Did you see ol baconface/rednose go mental about the poster?!?! HAHAHAHA. There was nothing Rafa like about Ferguson’s response to the question so don’t try and make it something it wasn’t. For City to hire an advertising company to run a campaign to wind up United fans is the behaviour of a club with a seriously small time mentality. It doesn’t make Ferguson or the fans bitter/obsessed/ranting for us to recognise that.

That’s what City fans chanted at him last season (namely when it kicked off against Everton) so I don’t see the problem…? You may think he’s the man to stop you being a laughing stock and learn how to calm down your big egos… other City fans think he’s Munich scum… and I imagine if/when he gets sacked because he doesn’t turn The Richest Club In The World to A Fairly Good Club In England, that reference to him will be heard all the more. Your lot remember Frank Swift on the day the world are watching on the 50th anniversary (in two decades of attending derby matches I’ve NEVER heard City fans chant “There’s only one Frank Swift!” It was sick) but every other game it’s all about Munich, and if you’d seen just HOW many comments on this post alone I’ve had to delete with reference to Munich, you’d understand why I was mentioning it.

  156. gotta hate tiny tears says:

i sang along with the frank swift chant out of respect because of the respect the city fans showed during the minute silence
but ill never forget the begging by weeks of media , city , posters of swifty on the walls, and match day program notes asking city fans to not boo the silence

  158. James says:

You make it seem like Blues were only silent because the club begged them to be. Don’t be silly, it was negative media again, apparently the City fans were going to definitely ruin the silence. Apparently we’re all heartless bastards. Don’t believe everything you read.

  159. gotta hate tiny tears says:

James – so because your fans didn’t sing about Munich when the world’s media was watching, that means you’re not heartless bastards for singing about it every other year? Your fans were singing Munich at Wastelands and Old Trafford LAST SEASON.

It’s not about what I read – it’s everything to do with what I see and hear EVERY season from your fans and what I have to read about EVERY time City fans come on here.

i wasnt there when he said in but a source by pele did tell it to the brazillian media and pele said he made a mistake going to city

  162. kiko_mac says:

    @jmc

Before the Second World War, many football supporters in Manchester watched City one week and United the next. After the war, a stronger rivalry developed and following both teams since became rare!

Also Maine Road was the Wembley of the north at the time pre world war and the attendances you got was from manchester football supporters in general, united and city fans!

The same goes with Old Trafford, city fans came to watch us when we played at home! There was no away travel in thoses days and each week there was a game in manchester, when united were at home, city were away! The fact that maine road had a higher attendance because at the time they had a bigger stadium.

And yes you are correct about wolves v grimsby, but remember the FA cup at the time was the pinnacle of world football and regardless where the match was played, the stadiums held more than what should of been in them.

    @Blue Betty

Yes, Man city hold the overall attendance at maine road for the fa cup match, but as i said pre war, both teams attract ALL mancunians. it was post war when united set the league one!

But Man city do not hold the overall attendance record in england as you suggest.

1923 FA Cup Final between bolton and west ham at wembley was the highest. The official stats was 125,000 but it is widely believed up to 300,000 gained entry!

    @james
It was a publicity stunt and you know it. You just about managed to not embarrass yourselves by not singing Munich songs. After in the pubs of Manchester even your so called reasonable fans were cackling to themselves about Munich.

  165. mgur says:

Pardon my ignorance, gents. Got a couple of questions to ask. Is City going on 34th year without winning any kind of trophy, even like a “FA Cup”, or EPL trophy only?

Also, another question. In New York, Yankees (baseball) are by far more popular team – the majority of the rival Mets supporters are simply Yankee haters from the New York Dodgers/Giants years – those teams moved to LA/SF, respectively, not Mets-supporters (Mets were formed in 1961, Yanks in 1903).
Is that case in Manchester, as well?

In American press one can see references to ManU – just learned that it’s a no-no. Why is that?

Finally, to feel closer to United fans in Manchester, whenever I go my local bar here in New York to watch United (every week, sometimes I also pay for the babysitter to help my wife with two young kids), I order “Fish ‘n Chips with Malter Vinegar” and a couple of pints of Boddy’s. Is that something a fan in Manchester would typically get as well?

  166. gotta hate tiny tears says:

    mgur that is right

A fan is a fan, it doesn’t matter where you come from or live. We are a global club, the “bitters” are just, well… err ..bitter that we have such a large fanbase, something they are jealously trying to copy.
It’s ironic their idiot CEO, Garry Cook, pays for a poster claiming they are the only team in Manchester and yet at the same time giving interviews to the press in South Africa claiming they want their club to be “the darling of the world”.
    Joke club, joke fans.

  169. READ CAREFULLY WHAT I says:

If City have an horrible season, losing often and achieving tthe occasional goalless draw and 1-o win then they will become a joke club that they will not be able to spend their way out of.

  170. TonyBee says:

Mgur….references to Man u are a no no due to what sadly happened in Munich….. tends to put fierce posters on here on edge and people (including me, when i first posted on ROM years ago) rightly got asked not to mention Man U again ….stick to Man Utd

Mgur….Try some canapes and champagne …..after all we are the richest club in the world…lol

  172. mgur says:

Personally, I don’t care about “5 goals in 2 seasons” – would’ve been great if Tevez stayed. Love his work ethic on the field. The question is at what price. Given that Sir Alex yesterday forgot more about football than I would ever, ever know – I support his decision.

What pissed me off, however, is that how Tevez repeatedly publicly stated “love United fans, all I want to do is stay” – however when shown more money flew over to City at speeds approaching the speed of light. That tells me he wanted our management to start a bidding war with City – with him being the winner of that war, of course. We didn’t bite.

Yankees pitcher Andy Pettitte was offered $6MM (!!) per year more to join another team – he said no, love the Yankees who made me the player I am today, I am staying. Actions speak louder than words.

  173. TonyBee says:

RCWIS… Totally agree with your last post… if Shitty fail in any way next year, or don’t make any Euro competition, Hughes will be gone and so will the raghead paying for them

  174. mgur says:

Will do from now on, TonyBee. Thanks, man.

  175. mgur says:

  176. kiko_mac says:

    @all bitter bluenose twats!

The fact that YOUR club spent money to try to wind us up and get a response from Fergie was pathetic but even better than that, is when Fergie publicity belittled you’s at the eyes of the world media AT THE REQUEST OF A JOURNALIST!!!! he did not come out with a fact sheet, he was asked a simple question and Fergie had to ask the journalist ‘is it city?’ and the journalist replied yes!

You’s are all right though, the world has taken notice of you because your club is a laughing stock.

You’s couldnt buy Kaka and ended up going for second best Craig fucking Bellamy!!!! Also the fact that Kaka ended up at madrid for less than half the price you’s offered.

If money cant buy you’s kaka, its hardly going to bring you’s success.

    Robinho thought he joined chelsea
    quote from espn soccernet
    http://soccernet.espn.go.com/print?id=569538&type=story&cc=%

”Asked about his transfer, Robinho mentioned Chelsea, and ‘the offer Chelsea made to Real Madrid’ several times in the course of his answer, and when the journalist sought clarification afterwards (‘You mean Manchester City, right?’), the man of the moment blinked and replied ‘yeah, right. Manchester City, sorry,’ before moving onto the next question”

Pele then stated robinho needs counseling for joining city because when pele heard ‘Manchester’ he automatically thought us, but on finding out that it was you’s.

    you’s bought:

Adebayor who before he left, Arsenal fans created a Michael Owen type brochure to get rid of him and before joining you’s he tried to sell himself to us and chelsea
    http://www.oleole.com/media/main/podcasts/arsecast/ADE_BROCHURE.pdf

Tevez who cried that he couldnt get his place on our team and he loves United fans forever, but now you’s love him for loving us!

    http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/premier-league/tevez-hints-at-manchester-united-exit-1672415.html

Barry who cried that he wanted to leave Villa to play champions league football, he is not even going to play intertoto football.

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2008/jun/03/premierleague.astonvilla

You’s bought a bunch of hypocritical mecenaries who wont play for you’s, just for their pay cheque!

The thing that makes me laugh the most about you’s bitters is that you’s all state that we are rattled by you’s, but we are not. The fact that Fergie called you small rattles you more, and the fact that you bitters are reading this now on a manchester united blog regardless of newsnow just proves it! If something came on newsnow and it was on a city site, i wouldnt go on to it because it doesnt interest me.

It must be hard to cope being a City fan, most live in denial, cursing the mighty Red’s exploits at every opportunity and never missing a chance to sing songs about the Munich and THEIR own Frank Swift. United fans don’t hate City as much as they used to, we’re bigger than that and have bigger fish to fry.

Manchester City are a joke, and lets face it, who doesn’t enjoy a good laugh?

before the war city were better supported than united full stop. It had nothing to do with grounds size because neither was regularly full to capacity (85,000 city 77,000 utd roughly)

for example 1938-39 city had bigger crowds than united even though city were in the second and united in the first. ( A feat united have reversed in later years eg 74-75).

I am not sure what happened after the war (wasn’t alive then) but since the war united have always had bigger crowds.

Maybe we shouldnt have let you borrow our ground for a few years.

  182. Nasty says:

There seems to have been many references to history on this thread. But the facts seem to be twisted to suit. Are Notts Forest a bigger club than Arsenal and Chelsea due to their European Cup wins? Are Blackburn bigger than Liverpool on recent Premiership success? Are the current Conference-living Luton Town massive in comparison to Newcastle in the recent pot winning stakes?
Next week we all start at zero. Let’s all look forward instead of back. All true football fans should be excited about a possible shake-up of the top four. I personally would rather watch five, six or more teams battle it out than an Anglocised Scottish Prem.

BEFORE the war ALL mancunians followed BOTH teams but each fan had their preferences.

City fans came to Old Trafford when City where playing away to support Manchester United and vice versa.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manchester_derby

But there is a piece on the Derby and plenty more articles on the net!
The reason why Manchester Uniteds crowd got bigger after the war and Citys got smaller is because both sets of supporters went their separate ways!

Just got sent a link through email which i thought was funny!

  186. manutdchampions2008 says:

on the season I know ist off the topic.

united will still win the league this is why.

Man utd – last year united played an awkward system but for me we had to play an awkward forward still good player not united standards. but tevez was always clumsy and he had bad at finishing even falling over the ball paul doyles view a rich man’s kuyt I would say the other way round, tevez is one of the most overrated players in Europe. Has for ronaldo our best player last year LOL I would put rooney and vidic ahead or ronaldo, Ronaldo was moody at times lazy and was in tantrums because he wanted to leave and other reasons, when did ronaldo in his last season ever put in great crosses tons of assists and even penetrating full backs. ronaldo seems at times to have lost a bit of speed in his game and thrust. For me he is better has a striker now than a RW and united got off lightly getting 80 million when for me his value is not as great as it was in 2008.

And with the team going back to 442 it is the 99 system back to its best again. Valencia for me is an unhidden gem, do not buy the hype oh he came from Wigan he is the kanchelkis and Sharpe style winger who will stretch and create chances and tracking back I see him getting about 12 to 15 goals he is old school style. Did vidic and ronaldo come from a big teams no. Tosic on the other wing seems to be another gem unearthed if he can start getting physically stronger his upper body he will be sensational.

If united can keep Fletcher and Carrick fit those four midfielders can be brilliant. Rooney and berbatov have to click but they are like lampard and gerrard the balance is not right. But united are still short of a CM and maybe a wide player.

The media also make a big deal of ronaldo and overrated tevez departure that other teams will benifit, uniteds rivals are not actually setting the pulse racing and city let’s see how sparky tries to fit in the three overpriced forwards.

A short assessment of the other rivals.

Liverpool – the dippers lost Alonzo who keeps that perfect shape of their
4 2 3 1 formation and signed an unproven injury prone serie A CM. Remember how spurs were hit hard when carrick left spurs. I would put my faith in Carrick Fletcher Anderson than the midfield Liverpool has especially that Mascherano is also unhappy. Torres is quiet injury prone and also their defence is not watertight has many believe. They have some positive players that could win them the league like gerrard torres etc etc but the media need to really put into perspective that united may have lost a player or 2 but look at the other rivals are not actually that much better.

Chelsea – Also people go on about uniteds ageing players what about Chelsea, united have more back up quality than all of the other prem teams. Chelsea also has a new manager now who may need time to adjust. But with essien back drogba and balack signing new deals and lampard looking good and even the likes of maloudo and kalou looking good they will be a threat but they have as many flaws has the champions and the dippers.

Arsenal – the gunners are severely weakened and look even more lightweight, they do not even have a spine of their team and for me they have to start bringing in players can’t think of many positives with no new buys.

  187. King Eric says:

manutdchampions2008 – Are you sure you are not an imposter? That is two positive posts now in one day mate. If you are happy then it must be good! Only messing but it is good to see you being positive about the season. You are pretty much bang on.

gotta hate you have been on form tonight!

Off topic but fucking priceless. Alonso’s replacement Aquilani is out for TWO MONTHS!!

It appears attempting to hold a reasoned discussion on here is like explaining quantum physics to a bollard. Your previous post towards me signifies this. I was a fan before the money, in fact I was a fan as a 7 year old in the Platt Lane with my dad in the 98/99 season. And if you think being a blue is all about mocking death and tragedy for the sake of a few laughs, you’re wrong. Jesus, thick isn’t the word. And for that reason, I’m out.

  192. King Eric says:

gotta hate – I didn’t quite understand your question. Were you saying that Forest are down in the history books as NOTTINGHAM FOREST so why aren’t we down as MANCHESTER UNITED and not MAN UTD???

  193. gotta hate tiny tears says:

    no mate sorry
NOTTINGHAM FOREST HAVE DONE SOMETHING THAT NO OTHER TEAM HAS DONE IN EUROPEAN FOOTBALL, WHAT IS IT?

  194. King Eric says:

Won the European Cup and European Super Cup in the same season? Tricky one. I know they won it back to back 79 and 80 but thats not unique.

  195. manutdchampions2008 says:

King Eric I am not totally happy with the team but the team is better than the rest. The balance of our strikers does not seem right still. we are still short in CM and maybe on the wings unless either tosic or nani step up. But like I said before the rivals of other teams are not better than united.

Also what is this big fuss on people going on about the defence? If our defence was foster de laat ferdinand evans evra then that back 5 can cope.

I think Ferguson now knows fully that Fletcher must play every game and we now know our best midfield 2. United at full strength in defence and CM RW and CF is vds brown Ferdinand vidic evra Carrick Fletcher Valencia Rooney. I still am not sure on LW and the other striker. but 433 4231 cannot be used now because ronaldo give us that option 2 use that formation, now he has gone it must be 442 every game. I really believe Valencia will be the difference in the title race and he is better than ronaldo ribery young and kaka playing has a proper winger. madrid missed a trick with Valencia big time who is underestimated by the so called experts and bone headed fans, why because ronaldo ribery benzama are names and Valencia is not. Same with vidic in 2006 before he became good.

my 11 would be for birmingham
    foster
    de laat ferdinand evans evra
    carrick fletcher
    valencia rooney berbatov tosic

  196. gotta hate tiny tears says:

    What’s a prawn sandwich?

  199. manutdchampions2008 says:

Oh I got some news Aquilani is out for 2 months reported in the dailymail.

I got a great stat for people
Aquilani only played 72 league games in 4 years due to injury? And Owen has only played 70 games in 4 years. But the last 2 years Owen has played 11 games more.
hmm is the media like the one from the telegraph going to harp on about how great Liverpool are when also mascherano also wants to leave. I think another reason why united were so one dimensional in attack last season, because ronaldo lost that dynamic speed he was never stretching defences and full backs and was having moody tantrums.

And another thing why are people saying ronaldo was by far uniteds best player for 3 years. Has I reckon Rooney not only got the same number of goals has ronaldo in 06/07, but Rooney never took the penalties and free kicks ronaldo done.

    07/08 was an exception.

08/09 ronaldo was awful Rooney was miles better than ronaldo, also another thing Rooney missed I say about over 3 months I say about 4 months overall in a season. Also Rooney was played out of position last season. So when you think about it ronaldo was uniteds best player for only 1 season.

Valencia will be a huge difference for the 4 teams, united will have speed and balance back in the team with Valencia and tosic on the wings and rooney played through the middle shame united do not have a central striker with pace and power.
