Even though Manchester United are currently sixth in the EPL most fans will agree that the team has improved this season. After a sluggish start the team has built up a head of steam and if they can keep it up until the end of the campaign they have a great chance of qualifying for the champions league. Mourinho has now had a chance to carefully assess each player at the club and over the summer the ones that do not meet his high standard will be shown the door. It is also an old squad that the new manager inherited so he will need to make a decision if they are past their sell by date or will be a usual player to have around when next season kicks off.

During the January transfer market, Man U did not do any business and the manager has recently stated that there will not be big changes like in the last few seasons. It will be interesting to see if the manager stays true to his word or if wholesale changes are once again made. United used to be a team of stability with Sir Alex Ferguson in charge and the owners are desperate for that to happen once again. Even if the club does not do much business they will still need to get rid of some dead wood while they can still get good money back on them. Below I have selected five players that will be subject to much transfer speculation and give my view on if they should stay or go during in the summer.

Wayne Rooney

The player that will receive the most transfer speculation is Wayne Rooney and most pundits predict that the Man U and England record goal scorer will be gone this summer. He is a bit part player under Mourinho and for someone of his quality it that should not be the case. He is part his best though and his legs are gone so it is likely that the board will cash in while they still can and get his massive wages off their books. It is widely rumoured that he may well be off to China in the summer as he has been offered one million pounds per week to play in the Chinese Super League. That far eclipse is current wages and at his age, it will be very tempting for him to cash in now while he still can.

Bastian Schweinsteiger

Things at Old Trafford have not worked out for star German player Schweinsteiger. He joins Man U past his prime and has struggled to fit in. He is also at the end of his career so will be looking for one last big pay cheque before calling it a day.

Ashley Young

Mourinho is not a huge fan of Ashley Young and the player has found himself out of the team. He again is in his 30`s and coming to the end of his playing career. A number of clubs will be interested in his in the EPL as he still has a lot to offer a lower level club. He may choose though to see out his playing days in the U.S or China.

Luke Shaw

Since moving from Southampton as a promising teen, things have not gone to plan for Luke Shaw. He has been plagued with injuries and not been fit to show what he is capable of doing. He may not get that chance though as Mourinho is not a huge fan so he may choose to sell him in the summer.

Anthony Martial

Most fans had not heard of Martial when he signed as a 19-year-old player from France but he instantly became a fan favourite. He has undoubted talent but needs to play regularly to reach his true potential and he may not get that chance with Mourinho. I think he will stay for another season but if he keeps on finding himself on the bench he will be gone the following transfer window.
