Who’s Playing In GNev’s Testimonial

Ian Brown from The Stone Roses will sing the players out on to the pitch. Most weeks they walk out to “This is the one” at the request of Gary Neville.

Confirmed:

Nicky Butt
“When Gary asked me to play in his game I immediately said yes, especially when I heard that the class of 92 were going to be there too,” said Butt. “It was a special time for all of us growing up and it is only now as you look back that you actually see what an amazing story it is.”

Phil Neville
“I am so excited to be going back to Old Trafford to celebrate what will be an amazing night for my brother,” he said. “It will be an emotional night for all the family but what a fitting way for Gary to bow out of a fantastic career. Gary always looked up to Juventus as the team to emulate so it’s great that the game will be against them. He will go down as the best full-back to play at Manchester United and he will miss pulling on the red shirt as I know how much it means to him.”

Probably: David Beckham, Ronny Johnsen, Henning Berg and Dwight Yorke.

giggs and scholes will be playing

  2. heinnlinn says:

Would love to see Schmeichel one more time too!

Class of 92 means a lot for me.. I grew up with that team and that very team made me love football and United.. heck I was born at 92.. Seems like an awful long time ago!

  3. Rainman6364 says:

Looks like Galaxy are playing at Houston the next day so prob no Becks.

  4. kimblim says:

Doubt that Giggs will play, considering he is playing the CL final 4 days later. Scholes is probably going on the bench for Barcelona, so he might play one half…

  5. captaink9 says:

    Get Eric in there !

  6. Sir Ryan Giggs says:

    What about Ole? Keano?

  7. Mes says:

How mad is it to look back on some of the names from the class of ’92 and they seem like distant history and then you realise that not only is Giggs still playing but he’s in the form of his life in the centre of the park?

    Ace.

Also, Eric must be playing right? SuperNev’s testimonial? He must be right?

  8. TonyBee says:

    any chance i could get a game……..

  9. dk says:

    ROBBIE SAVAGE!!!

  10. mattbw7 says:

Well as much as it would be great to see a class of 92 renunion (Not Savage, graduates only thanks) I think I’ll pass not going to give a multi millionaire a tax free pay check.

Off to see the FAYC final 2nd leg instead.

  11. aliyunaabbamanchesterunited says:

  12. mattbw7 says:

    Assuming your being sarcastic aliyunaabbamanchesterunited?

  13. fitz'em'good'n'tight says:

    @mattbw7

all the money will be going towards supporter based charity projects.

  14. dazbomber says:

@Mes- It is unbelivable, if some was playing at that age on a sunday morning you you would give them credit.

  15. MG says:

Ok ok I’ll play after all I will be there ;)

  16. sayyidhashim says:

I’ll be fuming if any first team player plays more than 20 minutes…they need to be resting for Barca just 4 days later

I would let the following play only:

Lindergaard, Brown, Evans, Bebe, Obertan, Owen, Gibson

  17. Kings says:

    Bring back Remi Moses.

  18. Mes says:

    @ Daz,

I’m the same age as Ryan, ok, a few months older, I have a similar amount of grey hair, played pretty bloody well in my early teens…

    Fucked now. Knackers yard.

    :D

  19. ScholesEvilTwin says:

I hope to god Prunier has been invited. Would be immense to see him pull on a red shirt again.

    haha

  20. Kevin says:

    @MG nice one hahahahaha

  21. MG says:

Scholsey and Giggsy will play a little part according to our website

Becks has been invited and waiting for him to give an answer – but that’s a no brainer

Love to see Keane Stam Yorkie Cole Sheringham Solskjaer Cantona May Irwin everyone come back for Garry – one thing will be for sure – it will be emotional beyond belief – I hope the Glazer’s will be supplying free tissues…

  22. Kevin says:

    David May, Irwin

  23. MadRedSteve says:

    no tevez??

  24. Utdforever says:

Erm.. why would they schedule this game 4 days before a possible Cup Final?

  25. mattbw7 says:

    fitz’em’good’n'tight says:
    @mattbw7

all the money will be going towards supporter based charity projects.

All the money, don’t think theres been any such annoucement, happy to be proved wrong though.

  26. TonyBee says:

mattbw7…… why so negative with regard Gnev……

‘I think I’ll pass not going to give a multi millionaire a tax free pay check’.

I am sure this great servant to our club will miss you being there…….

  27. TonyBee says:

‘I think I’ll pass not going to give a multi millionaire a tax free pay check’.

reading this correctly it’s a double negative …..

    I think I’ll pass……….. not going …….. ETC……..

    YOU GOING OR NOT….!!

  28. mattbw7 says:

I have that general feeling with all testimonials, in the PL at any rate, they where designed to give players from years ago a nice little send off.

For a player in the PL thats had as long a career as G Nev, who I have no beef with at all should be entitled to a tax free pay off seems absurd to me, so unless a good majority of it is given away I won’t be going. I would much prefer the Government announced it was subject to tax at the prevailing rate or if G Nev said the majority of it would go to charitable causes I would go I don’t mind him having a bit of coin, bloody hell I’ve contributed enough over the years. So its just the tax position and the amount he will get, he has a chance to make himself a saint.

  29. TonyBee says:

MG + Giles Oakley….. as you guys are obvious word-smiths…. could you decipher the line below and tell me ….is he going or not?

‘I think I’ll pass not going to give a multi millionaire a tax free pay check’.

I won’t be able to sleep tonight wondering ………..

  30. RED SAM says:

we should let sir bobby play one last time.

  31. Tomo1982 says:

Seems ludicrous that Giggs is gonna be playing four days before one of the biggest games in clubs history – why didn’t they just do it the week after??

I know its only a testimonial but why risk it at all?

  32. mattbw7 says:

I think I’ll pass, not going to give a multi millionaire a tax free pay cheque

Missed a coma, there you go sleep soundly, surprised you didn’t pull me for my spelling error.

  33. TonyBee says:

ummm getting confused here ….so its the Government’s fault that you aint going then……

    I give up

  34. mattbw7 says:

Did I say it was GNEVs fault I wasn’t going, I think i made a point about multi millionaires, the inequity of the tax system with regard to testimonials.

It really ain’t that hard but if you want I can take you by the hand……..

  35. TonyBee says:

    Thank will sleep soundly tonight………

not into spelling or punctuation errors ….make too many of my own….

  36. BerbaGod says:

    Jesper Blomsqvist anyone?.

  37. Eddiemunro says:

‘I think I’ll pass, not going to give a multi millionaire a tax free pay cheque’

I’d be surprised if it didn’t all go to charity.

Ben Thornley, John Curtis, Chris Casper, Keith Gillespie!

Ravel Morrison can play his farewell game too.

  38. TonyBee says:

jeez matt you type faster than I can…..wait for me to catch up will you….

    and i missed an ‘s’

  39. mattbw7 says:

Last one I attended was Choccy McClairs when whether you believe it or not, they wheren’t on the mega wages of today, all I want to see is a bit sense applied to testimonials when in the Premier League.

  40. Vish says:

Has anybody heard about the news that we wont be getting the trophy at Blackburn if we win it? It seems that the BBC are reporting that….

  41. TonyBee says:

Who could they play against…and kick the fucking shit out of….
    Stevie Me
    CLLC
Hinge Halland (that one specially for Keano)
    Vierra

  42. TonyBee says:

Last testimonial I attended was Sir Bobbys,……… see…….. I am an old bastard

  43. Kemp aussie says:

Everyone seems to have forgotten Taibi and Luke chadwick.
    Wink

  44. mattbw7 says:

Wow, now I know why your so grumpy, do you need your bag changing :)

Yeah Vish heard that and to be honest its a good thing, we could be champions but surely better as many of our fans get to see the presentation as is possible.

  45. Rasqie2011 says:

    Ronney johnsen?

  46. Vish says:

    @mattbw7

Fair point, that makes sense. Although I could have preferred this Saturday, because if City win the cup, then it would be a repeat of 68 where their win was hardly recognized, simply because we won the European Cup. Surely if it had been the same day, our trophy haul would have gotten more prestige because it was the 19th. Oh well, cant have everything in life!

  47. NotoriousRedDevil says:

    @ mattbw – http://www.manutd.com/en/Tickets-And-Hospitality/Tickets-And-Hospitality-News/2011/Apr/Gary-Neville-Testimonial.aspx – Mentions charities here.

    http://www.skysports.com/fanzone/blogs/story/0,24015,19352_6911751,00.html

I’m surprised by your cynicism – fuck the money its about seeing a legend one last tiem in a red shirt. Lets face it how many more players will we see spend their entire playing career at one club bar Scholesy and Giggs. Its one thing to say you’re not going but to call it a tax free pay cheque when I’ve read many times the moneys going to charity is just bollocks mate.

  48. mattbw7 says:

To be honest Vish Tinpots are all very nice but its adding to history that counts, we all know we’ll be champions when we get the big shiny thing is a smaller detail.

  49. WHAT ??? says:

    Lmao @ TonyBee !!!

  50. FletchTHEMAN says:

My Opposing team would have to contain all the c*nt pundits that have bashed these lads every game since 1992. Specially pleased if G.Nev could do Macca, sure we could come up with a complete opposing squad if we put half a mind to it.

  51. NotoriousRedDevil says:

Nothing new regarding the trophy. They only time its given at the away ground is if its won on the last day of the season. It’s always been given out last home game and I don’t think its a news worth story anyway.

  52. mattbw7 says:

Lineker, Hansen, Shearer, Pearce, Townsend, Gareth big teeth (cant remember his surname) Mcmannamamamam has to be another cert.

I could list a few more cunts if you want, Aldridge anyone?

  53. dannysoya says:

    KEANO PLEASE PLAY!!!

  54. fitz'em'good'n'tight says:

    @mattbw7

its up to you if you wanna go or not but at least have a good reason. as i said all the money is going to charity. listin to his interview on the bbc football page, its quite long but he says in the last few minites that all of the money will be going to supporter based charities.

i’d love to live in manchester. id be going for sure. gnev in a ledge.

  55. MG says:

All of Gary Nevilles monies raised from the game are going to charities

A lot of players who retire want to do this – fair play to them it’s not like they are short of anything

  56. mattbw7 says:

Sorry fitz’em’good’n'tight, he said money would be given to charity, he has stated all the money.

  57. fitz'em'good'n'tight says:

    @mattbw7

i agree with you it would be obscene if gnev was keepin the money, its not as if he is gonna need it!
but the money issue aside, it should be a great occasion. bit of a party atmosphere before the champos league final!

i really hope he gets a full house, he deserves it. he is united.

  58. Zulu-Malta says:

I ‘ll be travilling to THE THEATRE OF DREAMS to thank Gary and his family personally.Gary is like me. His DNA is MANCHESTER UNITED POSITIVE !!!!!!!!!!

  59. King Eric says:

No gotta agree with mattbw. Testimonials these days are a fucking joke. Back in the day it was OK as it was one last pay cheque for the player. They are fucking minted these days.

  60. King Eric says:

Oh and I see the Mail have reported that Rooney has been “let off the hook” for his v sign? What a fucking non story.

  61. Clint-IamYourPapii says:

It would be amazing if a Majority of these guys lined up for us in a Man.United Shirt again.

    Schemeichel :D
    Phil Red Nev :D
    Stam :D
    R.Johnsen
    Silvestre
    Becks
    scholesy :)
    giggsy :)
    keano
    cantona :D
    andy cole :D
    dwight yorke :D
    The baby faced assasin :D
    sheringham :D

& more of the 92-2006 guys like

    veron,Heinze(??)Larrson, Alan Smith, etc

& and a handful of youth players

    Pogba,tunnicliffe,morrison,josh king,macheda
cleverley, wellbeck (if fit), Oliver Gill etc

Hopefully we dont see wasters like Bebe & Obertan line up.

  62. King Eric says:

Clint – Hhmm? You don’t want “wasters” Bebe and Obertan BUT you would be happy to see fucjking Judas Heinze at this occasion?

Out of interest how much is this? Bet its 20 or 30 fucking quid. No I would rather go to the Youth game Final. Don’t get me wrong I love Nev but they are awfully greedy these days.

  63. shubhangmanred says:

I have 19 followers on twitter! EPIC! Never been so proud of my low follower count!

  64. Whiteside says:

Come on guys, jeez it’s certain GNev won’t be making a bean off this, that goes without saying.

Wonder if Jip Jaap will be there? ‘Whose testimonial? The Neviller? That busy little c…’

  65. 0161-Jon says:

i just don’t understand why the fuck this has been arranged just before the CL final…

How come Fergie is allowing this to happen? We need Giggs fully rested for that final, playing in a testimonial a few days before is fucking mental.

  66. lidija says:

good god it’s amazing-and what a warming up for 28th of may

  67. FletchTHEMAN says:

Ha ha ha, that’s the spirit. Southgate and Lee Dixon anyone? Shearer tops the list as well!!!

  68. willierednut says:

Come on Matt, if you don’t go mate, you’re not a proper Red. Mickey Quinn thinks Liverpool will win the league next season. I love the optimistic dippers, good for a laugh.

  69. FletchTHEMAN says:

Stop getting your knickers in a twist lads. Believe me, this was booked way in advance and many of the team will be on holiday immediately after so it will be very hard to sort it all out until the preseason. The game will be fine. If someone needs a run out, say fletcher and Anderson, they will have it. If they want to rest someone, they will be rested. There will be a very liberal subs policy and it will be a great occasion for the fans to dust off some old songs.

  70. Clint-IamYourPapii says:

    @King Eric

I did put put to question marks (??)

some fans reckon hes judas, others reckon he gaves his best to the club & then moved on to a new challenge.

If he joined liverpool i would have hated him but he didnt and recently regretted his actions in forcing a move, I have nothing against him now personally now I look back, I loved Heinze at his time at United.

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2011/feb/22/gabriel-heinze-manchester-united-marseille

I would love to see more 92-2006 guys which is why I included him….

How I would Kill to see Ole Gunnar Back Again at Old Trafford Again

  71. Clint-IamYourPapii says:

    Dumb Grammer from me AGAIN

    * two*
*How i would kill to see Ole Gunnar back at Old Trafford Again *

  72. Always Be Closing says:

@King Eric – the money is going to charity so the £25 each I paid for my tickets are going to good causes. Never heard such miserable United supporters all moaning that the money might be going to the players! Nev is and has never been like that.

  73. Mannings says:

I think a few of the first team will be on show, but obviously not for a full game. the match will be more like a training game than anything else, so it’s a great chance for the boys to play a bit of football, in a relaxed, entertaining way before the final. It also gives the fans a chance to celebrate 19, and give the team a good send off before the final.

  74. indiandevil says:

Becks deffo in, he wnt miss Gazz’s testimonial for sure ;)

Cant Saturday come any early? I cant effing wait :)

guys here’s a brilliant read on our fantastic home record this season, Old Trafford -there’s no place like home :)

    http://www.thehardtackle.com/index.php/man-united’s-corner-there’s-no-place-like-home/

  75. hammons says:

Man, I hope that dickhead savage isn’t playing. He was, and still is, so undeserving of being linked with the infamous Class of 1992.

  76. kano16 says:

fletcher is gonna play to give him match practice for champs league

  77. jellybean says:

@ King Eric- Yeah I saw that headline. Absurd. Clearly nobody remembers Stevie Fucking Me with his 2 fingers up at the ref. Oh wait, he was only counting 2 fouls right? They can’t ban a mentally challenged person for not being able to count, I guess. And of course, no tv channel will show 14,387 replays of Song’s elbow incident either. The press are barely mentioning it either, the days following Rooney’s elbow incident at Wigan it was impossible to find a non Rooney elbow story on Newsnow!

  78. bobkoh says:

Please don’t invite fcukdicks like Vieira, Henry, Keown etc.

  79. NicoQB says:

    I concur: Robbie Savage!

  80. rachreddevil1 says:

just read on gnev twitter that ian brown will sing The one as they walkout . this may have been a joke but how ammense wud it be to hear that again

  81. CedarsDevil says:

Last testimonial I attended was Lou Macari’s… Little bugger played for both United and Celtic each half.
Match finished 1 – 1 if my memory serves me right. For what its worth I am all for these testimonials, usually a great day out for the family, good chance to see stars of old and especially when proceedings are donated to charity

  82. Neil says:

Mattbw7 – fair point about other testimonials and all but GNev has said that 100% of proceeds are going towards charities, so what’s wrong with that? This seems the exception, and a damn good one. Just a question, not an accusation, mate.

  83. rachreddevil1 says:

strike my last comment i didnt read the article properly

  84. King Eric says:

Always be Closing – Fair enough mate. Its just I read in Red Issue that the Neviller and the club were being very coy about the money.

  85. King Eric says:

Jellybean – Hi. Yeah I know its a joke isnt it? Its an absolute non story. Why dont they bring up Ivanovic;s awful tackles or Fatties handball? Just another stick to beat United with. Well after virtually wrapping the league up on Sunday that little trick of banning him aint gonna make any difference whatsoever. They have almost gone out on a whimper with this story. If there were a few weeks of the season left I bet they would have made a much bigger noise. The mail is the worst rag out there these days. Must be full of West Ham fans and Scousers. Any more rants to come? The one last week was fantastic!!

  86. King Eric says:

Jellybean – Yeah. That song elbow was terrible wasnt it. The player was on the floor and Song just stuck his elbow in his mush. Like you say NO replays at all.

  87. Alerriixx says:

Went to Solskjaer’s testimonial a couple years ago, cracking atmosphere with some of my favourite songs going on throughout. Can’t wait for Nev’s it sounds even better!

  88. Sir Ryan Giggs says:

Mattbw7 and king eric: You guys are lucky enough unlike some of us to go and watch a RED LEGEND play for the last time. you guys gotta go no matter whether the money goes to charity or not. Come on guys lets give Gary Neville a great sending off.

  89. GLAZER---HATER says:

Would love to see Beckham, Savage, Keane, Yorke, Cole, ERIC ‘THE KING’ CANTONA

  90. zigoo says:

    would cristiano play???

would love to see him in the united shirt again!

imagine…then us singin…VIVA RONALDOOOOOO VIVA ROOONAAALDOOOOO

  91. Rex says:

    What about Roy Keane ?

  92. Louis says:

I doubt ronaldo is even invited. Imagine him rolling on the floor and telling the ref to send off steve bruce or someone. HAHA. Nobody wants him

On an unrelated note, who else thinks that Giggs and scholes should be knighted? Just heard that Seedorf was knighted in Holland! If he gets one, surely G and S should!

  93. mattbw7 says:

OMG Louis, Brucie back in a UTD shirt, surely you mean two UTD shirts :)
