Why Is Capello So Unhappy With Carrick?

Reports in the morning’s papers suggest that Fabio Capello is not at all happy with Michael Carrick after his late withdrawal from the squad.

It turns out Carrick broke his toe during the European Cup final against Barcelona last week, which meant he had to pull out of the England squad.

The injury was picked up by a scan performed by the England medical staff on Sunday, after Carrick informed them that he had been struggling with it.

Capello is said to be unhappy that Carrick did not mention the possibility of an injury sooner. Personally, I don’t get it. Surely Capello has enough faith in Gerrard, Lampard and Barry, no? Interesting.

  1. gotta hate tiny tears says:

i think capello is stuck in a hard spot here
he must know that carrick is much better player you can build a team around
plus also the fact that stevie me and lumpard dont work together so carrick can mix it up between them
but if he just comes out and says it the media will sven his ass before kickoff time
carrick is a ,in my opinion ,englands key to there midfield winning the world cup

  2. gotta hate tiny tears says:

also just to add another link to my last comment
    lumpard stevie me
your not fit to wipe his ass

  3. Wiuru says:

Capello getting tough? Who cares .

  4. vishnu says:

    that’s brilliant!
Fabio Capello has loves Micheal Carrick!
This shows that at least in the mind of England’s Top Man, Micheal Carrick is a highly valued member of the english team.

  5. costas says:

Coming off the Champion’s League final,it’s amazing to see that 3 of the players who were the core of the side that night(Carrick,Ando and Rio) were injured. It’s been a long season for everyone and i hope these players get a long vacation and come back ready for the start of the season. And Capello shouldn’t act like he us upset. As Scott says, for him it’s all about Lampard,Gerrard and Barry anyway.

  6. 20LEgend says:

I understood that he injured his foot in the Arsenel game and Capello was miffed that Carrick/United didn’t tell him before now so he didn’t pick him in the squad.

  7. wazza says:

United > England , nuff said

  8. trevor says:

It is not to difficult to understand why capello is miffed. Carrick is a grown man and should not need his hand held!

Why did he not inform Cappelo or whoever in the FA He had a problem that needed checking out?

Broken toe? Has Terry, Lampard and Gerrard played with Broken Toes in the past with Injections?

I want carrick to break into the England team and show how good a player he is! He is also very underated as a player even still, his positional sence is very good his passing very good and sometimes exceptional.

I dont know what happened to him in the final or all of our players for that matter. Im still gutted and pissed off about that!

If anyone can pick the best 8 players that played that night from their performance i dont think anyone could justify having a united player in that 8.

Rememver we have Ronaldo World Player of the year! Vidic and Rio supposidly best center half pairing in europe! Rooney….. and they didnt perform.

Im just looking forward to next year! We still had a good season and i hope the players get over and can live with themselves and the performance and effort they gave!

  9. Par says:

He’s upset because he has to replace a player just days before a game, and it could have been avoided if he’d spoken up sooner. It’s not complicated, nor is it ‘interesting’.

  10. costas says:

If he was injured during the Arsenal game,i am glad he and the club didn’t tell anyone about it until the Rome Final. It would have sparked a massive United vs England debate over the newspapers and that was the last thing we needed going in to Rome. Why didn’t he tell anyone after Rome?Who knows?Maybe he thought that he could gut it out in the 5 time wasting minutes that Capello would use him in.

@trevor: I agree about the top 8 all coming from the BArca team. But in my opinion, the United players were a lot more, how you say, knackered than we believe. After the long season we had, there was no way we were going to get 90 minutes of a top class performance out of them.Esepcially with some of them carrying injury problems.

  11. tony-starks says:

This ‘interesting’ story shows that summer is upon us!

  12. Marq says:

How about this conclusion of mine?
    - Capello told them who would be playing, Carrick as sub, Gerrard, Lampard & Barry starting.
    - Carrick thinks since he won’t be playing, he might as well rest up his toe
    - Capello thinks Carrick reacted badly
    - However, please remember all this is without quotes. So I presume its the media creating news for the back pages

  13. Quinton_Fortune says:

Carrick > England. Although on a personal level it would have been good for him to break into the team,im glad that he now gets a well deserved rest.

  14. gotta hate tiny tears says:
    as emily says about carrick
its hard to believe its not scholes
    and this carrick>england thing
    maybe shes right
another united player benched to make the stevie me’s of this world feel like a big man

  15. haruglory_911 says:

surely Capello miss Carrick cause he’s completely a different player than Stevie me, barry and lampard. Carrick is a holding/defensive midfielder, same position as hargo. Unfortunately, both of them were injured…
As you know stevie and lampy cannot play in the same team…

  16. Par says:

Yes, Tint Tears, that’s what Capello’s been hired to do. Help Steven Gerrard work on his self-esteem.

  17. Xyth says:

Who cares. England’s loss will be United’s gain.

  18. Kings says:

Go fuck yourself Capello. I lost any respect I had for him after he made those comments about Terry. Surely someone of his intelligance should know that Terry is a cunt and represents everything that is bad about the game. If Carrick’s injured then he is injured. He’s still got his regular bum boys in Gerrard (CUNT), Lampard (FAT BASTARD) and Gareth Barry (GREEDY FUCKING CUNT). I’m sure that’s enough to beat the might of Kazakstahn.

  19. unitedmacedonia says:

If Capello choose man united reserves,he would still beat Andora, and Kazachstan…I don’t understand what the fuck is all this about

  20. Par says:

It’s about him being able to put out his strongest team on one of the few occasions he gets to do so. Someone who’s as much of a perfectionist as Capello analyzes every aspect of his team, and these 2 matches represent a good opportunity to do so, and to experiment a bit. He most likely had Carrick factored into these plans, and now he has to change them all. He made just as big a deal about Gerrard’s injury a few months ago. When they appointed him, everyone was welcoming an end to the WAGs trailing the team and the lack of discipline and the coach calling his players ‘Wazza’ and ‘Stevie’ ….. we all knew he was a hardass, people just need to deal with it.

  21. sirryangiggs says:

While I don’t give a fuck if England fail to qualify for the World Cup, I think its basic courtesy to inform the coach of your injuries before he make plans for the matches. Be it drafting the squad, preparing for trainings or devising the gameplan. Even if Carrick would have been a substitute, that still matters because ultimately you look towards your substitutes when things are not going well. If Capello were informed earlier, he could have called up Milner earlier and give Milner more training time with the main team.

It doesn’t matter if its against Andorra or Argentina, Capello is probably trying to instill this fundamental discipline.

That said, it may have been a miscommunication between the club and the FA rather than Carrick’s fault altogether.

  22. King Eric says:

Could not care less. Carrick and United > Ingerlund.

  23. in4muslegand says:

Carrick is useless anyway england and more importantly United don’t need him.

  24. clj7 says:

It’s not a matter of love or hate. It’s a matter of trust. Doesn’t matter which player it is, whether it is Ashley Cole or Heskey – they have to be honest with their manager. Even if Carrick would not of been on the bench, he left it very late to tell the manager.

But I do appreciate Carrick’s passion for playing in the White National shirt, even though I’m from Wales. That’s exactly the type of player a team needs in their side.

  25. King Eric says:

“Carrick is useless anyway england and more importantly United don’t need him.”

Is this a wind up? Carrick has been one of our best players for the last two seasons or so. His form dipped towards the end but fuckin hell.
