If a new pair of boots and a dinner was enough for him to choose another team over the team he supposedly supported, he either wasn't much of a United fan, or he really is very shallow and just in it for what he can get. Both are probably true. I'm very glad he isn't a United player. Congrats to Rio; he deserves it. Not that it actually means that much. His column is purely designed to wind people up and it's obviously working well. It's pretty entertaining stuff if you disconnect your allegiances for a second, rather like Yahtzee Croshaw's Zero Punctuation - except about football, not video games. Rio totally deserves this England captaincy and I for one hope he puts out a similar performance as captain tonight as he does when he's captain for United. The lad hates losing more than anything, has a good rapport with his fellow players and vocally leads the defence/team; I'd say he was born to be captain, really.
